[ido] OTA update from CM13 NIGHTLY to CM14.1 NIGHTLY - Xiaomi Redmi 3 Questions & Answers

today I got a notification for OTA update from CM13 NIGHTLY to CM14.1 NIGHTLY and thought it was safe to try it.
Download opengapps for Android 7.1, recovery file from CM for that nightly version I got notified (cm-14.1-20161215-NIGHTLY-ido-recovery.img), put them both in root folder and pressed the automatic update to download and reboot to install. Once booted up after the update, the Gapps were all dead as expected so I rebooted to recovery (CyanogenMod recovery - not TWRP - TWRP got overwritten during my OTA update from Lollipop to MM) to install OpenGapps and got an error during the OpenGapps installation but I'm not fast enough to read. Something like complaining that the package is too big and I need to remove some of its contents.
Rebooting the phone I end up in SafeMode with only the native apps (no google apps) active. Everything other app is grey-disable and there is the message "Safe mode" overlayed in the bottom left corner.
I then checked and realised I am not on 7.1 but on 7.1.1. Could that be a problem for OpenGapps? There is nothing on OpenGapps for 7.1.1.
Any help will be appreciated!

Sorted!
CM overwrote recovery (TWRP) and CM recovery could not install GApps properly hence the problem. Flashed TWRP again (twrp-3.0.2-0-ido.img) and installed Gapps via TWRP. No problem now! Boots fine, I just need to update a few apps/permissions.

My experience from 4.4.4 CM11 to 5.0.2 CM12

So I had quite the experience upgrading to lollipop.
Started with:
CM11 4.4.4 Nightly
600mb system
Philz Touch
1) I flashed Flintman TWRP within Philz Touch 6.0.4.9.
2) Downloaded Milaq's CM12 and PA Gapps 5.0.2. Pico.
3) Booted into TWRP, and created a backup.
4) Ran a factory reset in TWRP, and attempted to flash CM12. I had no idea where the /Downloads/ folder was, and I ended up finding it by going to /Internal Storage/data/media/0/Downloads
5) Encountered an error in mounting system, nothing was flashing.
6) Booted the touchpad into Web OS Recovery, and ran TPToolbox. An error was detected in the system partition, and 'Repair Partition' failed.
7) I then booted into WebOS and ran Preware 'Tailor'. Tailor also failed on 'Check Filesystem'. I then proceeded to delete the Android system partition. I never figured out why my system became corrupted.
8) I removed 400 mb from Android Data, and created Android System with 1000mb.
9) I booted back into TWRP, and successfully flashed CM12, and gapps.
10) After booting, I then proceeded to download Xposed for lollipop. I activated root in developer settings,.
11) I booted in to TWRP, and flashed Xposed, and rebooted the tablet.
12) All subsequent apps resulted in a -504 error when installing. It was discovered that Xposed was the culprit.
13) I then reflashed cm12, without xposed.
14) I downloaded Trickster MOD and set my CPU to 1782 Mhz and performance governor.
15) I experienced odd slowdowns and crashes when any audio played (include keyboard taps). I then proceeded to flash Viper4Android. I installed the driver, rebooted, and now my Touchpad audio sounds great! Make sure to select the best audio quality, and play with the Viper settings!
I now have a blazingly fast lollipop tablet. I tried 5.1.1, but I find it too unstable for daily use. The next step is to figure out how to get Xposed working.
Thanks to the devs for the hard work in development!
fwiw, all 4.4.4 and 5.x roms that I have tried excepting the Evervolv 5.0.2 last nightly have problems with the sound locking up the system, unless you turn off "OK Google" detection completely.

I had similar issues with the exception of Evervolv. Their 5.1.1 is even pretty solid now at this point; they're setting their sights on Marshmallow next!

Can't run Paranoid Android 5.1

Hello guys,
I have problems running latest official PA for GT-I9300 (Int'l).
After wiping dalvik, cache, system and data I installed rom zip and gapps zip and rebooted. Phone automatically rebooted me to recovery (TWRP 2.8.5.0).
Again I wiped everything installed rom zip and now I tried installing boeffla kernel 3.1 CM12 NG and gapps zip. After rebooting I see installing apps and when it completed all my applications forceclosed and phone rebooted. Now I keep getting optimizing apps and when it completes phone just reboots.
I tried doing same thing but with leanKernel AOSP v5.1 but I get same thing as installing no kernel.
I appreciate any kind of help. If you need more information just ask.
Thank you.
Official Paranoid is the only LP-ROM for S3, which doesn't boot with build-in kernel. So don't expect anything from that and take Gokulbalram's Inofficial.

Google Play services stopped | CM13 for GT-i9300

I had Unofficial 5.1.1 installed on my Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300. I updated my device via CM Updater to CM13 6.0.1 Marshmallow. After updating, I am getting an error Google Play services has stopped, unfortunately. I cannot access any Google App.
I've flashed the GApps through OpenGapps. But after flashing GApps, phone stucks on Bootloop. I've tried many variants (pico, nano, stock) but none of them worked. I am still stucked at boot screen.
HELP!

Definitely Gapps problem.
1) Backup your data.
2) clean install Marshmallow rom (wipe data/ factory reset & install)
3) look for the correct Gapps (slim zero Gapps work for me)
You might know, but just telling - make sure the Gapps is for Android 6.0
P.S: don't panic and flash several things at once. Maybe you haven't clean flashed the CM 13, that might be the reason.
Clean flash 13.0 and don't boot yet after and go back to recovery, instead flash gapps immediately after flashing the rom. If you dont then you're going to have a bad time. Hope I helped
Done. Flash CWM and Boom
Thank You @sashankps. Slim Zero Gapps worked for me.
What I did?
1. Installed CWM Recovery.
2. Wiped everything.
3. Installed CM 13 (6.0.1)
4. Flashed Slim Zero Gapps.
5. Done.
PS: For future readers, please note that do not wipe cache/data after installing Gapps. After finishing above steps directly Reboot your system.

Glad it helped.
I was a CWM recovery user myself, but the development is static, I would suggest you move on to TWRP - chances of you encountering flashing problems is less.
Next Time.

Samsung Galaxy S II (GT-19100) Cyanogenmod 12.1 Issues

yea so I am running before in cyanogenmod 10.1 with jellybean and I downloaded Cyanogenmod 12.1 from rom manager. I also downloaded gapps downloader from playstore to find gapps there.
I flashed Cyanogenmod 12.1 successful. I installed Gapps successful, too
I am now running in android 5.1.1 but when the phone starts, ALL THE GOOGLE APPS I INSTALLED STOPS. Even in the startup, all the google applications forces closes and the apps is not installed. When I looked in the settings>apps>all
the google apps is there but it is in my sd, it also shows com.google......etc and it is not installed in my device.
The android Keyboard (AOSP) also closes again and again so I cannot type when the phone asks me to input password in my WIFI. SO I AM ****ING STUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!! ****ING STUCK
I wanted to try to flash it back to jellybean, but the Recovery my phone is running is the Cyanogenmod Recovery and there is no back up and restore option.
I want to fix this issue, I mean I still want to run my device on Lollipop. How can I fix this? How to make gapps work and the keyboard,
Take a backup of all your stuff in internal storage.
Download these files onto your SD card.
Kernel- https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24407100847293132
TWRP- https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24369303960684130
Download the proper Pico gapps from this thread.
After that,
1) Boot into recovery
2) Install the recovery
3) Reboot your device again into recovery. If it does not boot into TWRP recovery then it means you're on an older version of CM 12.1., so flash the kernel first, then the recovery, and try to reboot your device into recovery) If it booted into TWRP then you do not need to flash the kernel.
In TWRP, select 'Wipe', and do a factory reset, after that's done, select install in TWRP and flash Pico Gapps.
thanks for the reply!
but do you think this would work?
do you think the cm recovery would accept this zip files, because I tried to flash my backup applications such as games, and other stuff and it showed err signature verification failed.

I tried installing gapps for Android 4.2.1 and it worked AHAHAHAHAHA. But when I rebooted it, com.google...etc stil, all of the closes. (unfortunately com.google,etc. has stopped) even the AOSP the android keyboard isnt working.
I have some gapps working now, THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE NOW IS THAT THIS ****ASS AOSP KEYBOARD UNFORTUNATELY STOPPED MESSAGE EVERY 2 secs AND I CANT TYPE,
What error does it show when you try to install gapps?
And by gapps I mean the one for android 5.1.

there is no error anymore. i installed 3rd party keyboard. thanks mate )
i mean the gapps are working but when I sync my google acc, it syncing error. they are working but after for about 5 mins or later, com.google.process.gapps unfortunately stops so i cant use it and more error stuff comes out. I think I am having issues with GApps, basically. how the hell i can fix this. I tried so many gapps from the xda thread, youtube, and other forums for 5.1.x. still, they unfortunately stop.
Take a backup of your stuff.
Download GApps (ARM/5.1/pico) from this link.
http://opengapps.org/
Copy paste the .zip file into your SD Card.
Boot into recovery (TWRP) and wipe /data, /cache, /dalvik cache
After that is done, install the open_gapps-arm-5.1-pico-xxxxxxxx.zip
Reboot your phone.
Now the unfortunately stopped error will be fixed.
that is what I have downloaded. I wiped data, cache and dalvik cache. and installed gapps
it says Insufficient storage space available in system partition. you may want to use a smaller Open GApps package or consider removing some apps using gapps-config.
NO changes were made to your device
Error Code: 70
E: Error executing updater binary in zip
Are you sure you used the pico version of gapps?

That's weird. Download Diskinfo from Playstore and post a screenshot of it. I'd like to know the space free in /system partition of your device.
Man, this is what I did
And yea, I figured it out.
1. Factory reset
2. Flash Rom
3. Flash Gapps
5. Wipe Cache / Dalvik Cache
6. Reboot
THANKS FOR SOME HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CyanogenMod update for s2 without lose data

I have updated my galaxy s2 with cyanogenmod 13 and with gapps nano.
To install gapps without problems, I followed this steps:
1-reboot in philz recovery mode
2-Install cyanogen rom ( don't reboot)
3- Install gapps nano
4-Reboot
Now I would like to update cyanogen with nightly update without lose data. I tried to use cyandelta but some errors appear ( permission denied..)
I rebooted in recovery and now I have a clockwork recovery.
Can I install the nightly update with this recovery mode and without lose data and settings?
I have to install gapps nano another time to avoid problems?
Can you describe me step by step what I have to do?
Anyone update cyanogen?

if not done yet i would recommend to increase partitions to 1 gb system and 4gb.
And I would install isorec recovery twrp 3.0.2-1 because cm recovery is not very useful.
Please read noob friendly guide "want update to cm13...." by Saber who made also one for "increase system partition.

If you use the official CM13, you can try the inbuilt update option. You can find it in Settings --> About Phone --> Cyanogenmod updates. There were bugs for a long time, but as far as I know everything has been fixed.
Or try out a dirty flash. Just flash the newer Nightly zip in recovery with wipe of /cache and /dalvik. Not sure if it is also necessary to reflash Gapps.
Edit: I ask myself if updating via settings still works since they switched to Lineage OS... If you try it please report here.
