So after updating my bootloader to the new version so I can run Android Nougat however I wasn't getting any LTE connection and decided to restore the EFS backup I had from android MM.
My phone started having problem more problems (SIM card not being detected) and I decided to run the OPX recovery and switch back to default.
However this resulted in my bootloader getting locked for some reason and whenever I try to reboot my phone the screen is black and the LED indicator turns white.
I can boot into the factory OPX recovery but I'm forced to use the volume and lock buttons because I can't use my touchscreen whilst using this (no idea whether this is normal).
I can still boot into fastboot mode and have tried to sideload a new ROM however this has been to no avail.
Hey, I got that exact same problem. All was fine, did a backup and wiped as every time to try out a new rom. It boot normaly and was tweaking the rom. Then I decided to restore my backup, wiped as every time and restored my backup. Till then my SIM card is not being detected and some strange things happend like I couldn't enter the recovery with advanced reboot. After that I followed the unbrick guide and my bootloader is also locked but could not boot into the rom. After bootscreen the screen is black and the LED turns white. I can also boot into the factory OPX recovery.
What happened here? Anyone some ideas?
I had the same problem, I had to trick oneplus-support to do it on warranty, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70182036&postcount=16 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70184136&postcount=18
Today I got my phone back with a new mainboard.
Hmm, okay thanks for your reply. But is it really a hardware problem? It sounds weird but maybe replacement is a way...
It strange, since I had the problem with my phone there are 3-4 new threads now in this forum were people have exactly this problem, black screen with white led.
I will not flash my phone again in the foreseeable future and just use gravitybox instead.

How did you unlock the bootloader or even install KingRoot? The problem is that my bootloader is locked, that I have no way to unlock it, no proper recovery and that I can't boot into my ROM.
Also does anyone know whether Simplesurance would cover my phone? Since it does state it covers "incorrect use" (or something along those lines).

With the new mainboard and the new rom build, it is impossible to use twrp or root. I didn't know that when I wrote I would be using gravitybox from now on and not flash custom roms again.
Just a quick update. Got my phone back and they also replaced the mainboard. It's now on the latest OOS but I can do everything as before. So hopefully it will survive longer as before - what ever it was...

There are two v3.1.4 builds, ONE E1003_14_161107 and E1003_15_161107. My new Mainboard came with the latter and now twrp doesn't find any partition. So no root or custom rom for me any more.

Ah okay, I didn't know that. Obviously then I got maybe the other one.. but not sure if this makes the difference.
What you guys are describing as a common flash of new ROM and wipe to restore backup sounds like something's left out. Did you change twrp versions between flashing and restoring? Was your backup with 3.0.2 twrp and new flash with 3.0.3?
Cause these issues usually occur when recovery versions change

No, did not change twrp versions during flashing new ROM and wipe to restore backup. Don't know if I remember correctly but I think I was on Bluesparks twrp (was it 3.0.0?) and did not change that during the processes.
i also had same problem
i try to update my twrp recovery with flashify. it was successful but now i cant boot into recovery. i dnt know bootloader is locked or not. i can use many fastboot commands like fastboot reboot-bootloader, fastboot continue. please help me. i try many times to update or remove twrp but nothing happend. rom is working.
Damn, same problem here. I tired to flash a new ROM (the android base for SailfishOS 2) and it failed, was getting late so I decided to restore the backup I just made (the backup had everything selectable in twrp including EFS backed up). After rebooting the sim, sd card and wifi didnt work, so I tried re-restoring EFS, wiping, formatting and wipe+flashing various ROMs all with a still unrecognised sim. Finally I decided I had enough a used the MsmDownloadTool, but it softbricked my phone with the blank screen and white LED if I try to boot into system.
I never changed twrp version during this until it was removed by MsmDownloadTool.
I also noticed that adb sideloading using OOS's old stock recovery with a OOS OTA zip doesnt work, it either gets stuck at logo or loops. Sideloading newer OTA zips kills the phone more because I tried to flash a MM zip and found that recovery no longer works. I've tried redownloading the MsmDownloadTool package and using this other modified MsmDownloadTool here a few replies down https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-x/general/guide-mega-unbrick-guide-hard-bricked-t3272108
Another thing I noticed is that windows detects a bunch of unreadable local drives, with one readable containing only an 'images' folder, with useful-looking stuff like adsp.b00, adsp.b01 all the way to adsp.b12 and also .mbt files. I can provide the full list if it's useful. It's also detected in the device manager as "Marshall London HS-USB Diagnostics 9006 (COM6)" under Ports.
I really hope that I don't need to send this phone back to oneplus.

I had flashed a ROM and wanted to restore a backup of MOOS. The back up restored no problem but when I booted it wouldn't detect sim trays and no wifi. When I typed *#06# no iemi's and finally when I checked about phone I had no baseband. I had a back up of efs and persist but wouldnt help. If this sounds like your issue or if anyone's having this problem its actually easy fix. With adb commands had to delete modem1 and modem2 files. I had my doubts but after reboot sims trays detected, wifi and iemi's restored.
Hello all,
Last i encountered a issue regarding the password right after a reboot to system when i fully restored with TWRP.
I was really furious becouse i had no idea how to fix this.
After a couple of tries i have found a fix.
When you are about to do a nandroid backup,
Stay in system,
Go to settings-> lockscreen-> password-> And choose none.
I repeat none. If you dont you will encounter the problem.
Now you can go to TWRP and do a nandroid backup. Do whatever you want and after you did what you want, and you want to restore, you can do it without any problems. Reboot and then you can go set a security again.

There is this weired glitch. That for example your code is 1234, you make a nandroid backup, install a new rom, then decided that that rom wasnt good and you want to restore. After restore you reboot to system and then when you type in you passcode, 1234, it just gives you an error that the code is wrong.

Well, the purpose of the guide ive shared is to remove lockscreen password / pattern and it is helpful in the case youve mentioned.
But yeah, the workaround youve mentioned is okay too.
Yesterday, ive just experienced this on my Huawei Nova when i restored my backup. After reboot, i have to type the lockscreen password as i cant unlock with fingerprint first time after reboot and i was typing the right password, but it was telling me that its wrong. Whats strange is that ive restored the backup 2-3 times before and there wasnt any problem with it.
And ive just used those commands (like in that guide):
Code:
adb shell
su
cd /data/system
rm *.key
reboot
Then the password was gone. However, i still had to type the password to set up a new one and it turned out that i could type anything (even "1") and then i could set up a new password.
The story is that, I flashed a custom 7.1.2 ROM all gone successful and I put in PIN and fingerprint as Security.I rebooted because I want to install SuperSU after successful SU flashing the screen prompt "To Start You Android, Enter your PIN" I was confident to enter my PIN but after hitting OK it says that my PIN is wrong. So I entered several times but no success. I panicked so flashing miui eu rom. It was my option hoping that all will be good after installation. But still the "To Start You Android, Enter your PIN"
As I've searched now I need to delete the .key files on data/system folder but since I flashed different ROMs back and forth maybe those files has been deleted also.
To cut this long story, I am still stucked with the "To Start You Android, Enter your PIN"
What I am gonna do now?
Please help me.
My device is Redmi Note 4x (SD), Unlocked and with TWRP installed

Format Data via twrp. Good to go.
Note that you'll loose all your data.
Thanks @sachin n.
This has been resolved.
I guess you may be using twrp to install the ROM when there is no formatted data partition,

Nah, MIUI itself encrypted. You've to FORMAT data via TWRP inorder to get rid of encryption. No option.
BTW, check #3, it has been fixed.

As a Chinese user, also witnessed the development of XIAOMI over the past few years. In the Chinese market, the main price is correct. But still hungry sales so far. Feeling like a monkey! MIUI is the same, once slogan: for the fever and students. Has now become the "ADUI". Bloated, ad implanted, or even better than Flyme. Hope MIUI9 can change. There is a month on the closed .....
Hi guys!
I somehow messed up my system with LSPosed in Gravitybox. A conflict made my phone unworkable (screen just kept flashing). No worries since I kept a Nandroid. After just putting this back (I ticked literally ALL the boxes) my phone goes trhough the OnePlus-loader (dot turning into square) and then says only "turning off" in the screen. Nothing else works. So I can only re-access the device via PC-Terminal in TWRP.
Fact is... Nandroid was taken BEFORE LSPosed was installed, Nandroid gave no errors when taking and gave no errors when "putting back". But device just kind of softbricks AFTER boot. Very strange. Any ideas?
Could it have to do with DM-Verity?
Just wondering: did anyone actually MAKE a NANDroid (ticket all the boxes) and tried to put it back? Questions:
- when putting it back: do I need all the boxes ticked, or just a few?
- when making a NANDroid - do I need to disable PIN, fingerprints etc.? Or can it stay active?
- did anyone succeed so far? - I am wondering why mine doesn't work?
Please share your experiences!
Can confirm neither my Nandroid backups are working.
Dunno if any security pin or measure needs to be disabled first, but it shouldn't.
So far, the most safe way I've found to make a full device backup, is through adb:
While booted in TWRP use the adb commands:
Bash:
adb shell
ls -la $(find /dev/block/platform -type d -name by-name)
to list all partitions. Then you can use
Bash:
mkdir /sdcard/PartitionsBackup
dd if=/dev/block/sdc"partition number" of=/sdcard/PartitionsBackup/"partition name".img
to backup every partition in your internal storage. To flash them back you can use fastboot:
Bash:
fastboot flash "partition name" "partition name".img
# Example
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Wow, that's is almost out of league for me :-(
Anyone can help fix this? How is everyone doing?
Can anyone help me in overcoming that kind of a problem .?
I've tried recovering with TWRP, I suspect the problem there is encryption, because when I factory reset the data, I can start fresh.
If you just want to have a working phone, try doing a restore and factory reset (also try reformatting the data partition if a factory reset does not work).
Just let us know if this worked for you.

I've created a Tool that could help, if you're still able to backup the original working firmware.
Anyway, I personally suggest to go with multiple type of backups (TitaniumBackup + Nandroid + PartitionsBackupper) first.
And when it's time to restore, wipe everything with the stock recovery and start fresh. Restoring the userdata partition for last, checking if everything works before flashing it.
Awesome. After my 4th (!) factory flash comming Friday at a OnePlus service center I will try!
I am now rooted with TWRP, A12 Version (EU). Is there a simple way to return to stock recovery? Or can I do the entire wiping in TWRP? I was warned not to wipe partition / files with IMEI.

If you backup everything before hand (IMEI partitions included), you can pretty much wipe anything without worries (by personal experience at least).
To revert back to stock you can easely flash the stock boot and stock recovery partitions via fastboot.
Or, in case you just want to backup them, just download them directly without need to touch the phone.

4th factory flash???? I think u shouldnt flash somerhing anymore
Well, when I started with this phone, I made a NANDroid of stock rom, just plain, rooted. During the adventure setting it up, I kept making NANDroids.
Then when I was done (phone in use for 2 days) I installed LSPosed and Gravitybox. WARNING: if you mod the clock position in Gravitybox to middle: your phone will not work anymore (some framework error I guess). Then I decides to put back a 2 hours before made NANDroid back... Which got no errors when making and none when putting back... But the phone bootlooped. Actually it started through the loader, started Android and then only showed "switching off" in the screen. Which it didn't.
Then I needed a factory flash. The first factory flash gave me a "serial nummer incorrect", the second one a battery drain (no sim, wifi and bluetooth off, lost 50 percent battery in 9 hours without finding out what caused it). The next factory flash worked without the serialnumber error but also gave the battery drain AND did not let me enter a pinlock neither a fingerprint.
So tomorrow we'll try again.
What I noticed that even when a factoryflash @oneplus servicepoint was done... Some data survived (!) in the phone (which shouldn't). I still had a TWRP-folder there so I guess it's like more junk just survices. That probably causes all the trouble.
It's time OnePlus releases the firmware!
I've been in the same situation (even twice ) For me just deleting the Gravitybox.apk from system folders did the job.
Hi!
Finally I got stuck in a boot loop on my Pixel 6 running QPR2.
It's looping after the G animation (vibrates a few times at that point when attached to a PC).
Reflashing the latest QPR factory image (without -w) by using SDK 33.0.3 does not solve the issue.
The ROM was running fine before, but it rebooted due to a faulty custom kernel version and now I'm stuck.
My theory is, that the launcher (nova) can't load and therefore it reboots.
Anything I could do using fastboot?
Never flash a custom kernel on a stock ROM, If not suggested by the dev.
I understand that you flash without wipe?
Done that for years without any issue.
The last version of the custom kernel had an issue and caused reboots.
Not sure if this is the ulprit, but normally that should be solved by flashing factory image without -w.
So the question is: Is there any other option than doing a factory reset?

If the kernel broke your actually ROM, nope. You could backup the file stored locally via adb in the recovery, but not anything more.
Wipe all is the best, better than have to handle with an hard brick.

If I were you I'd maybe get some logs and go through them and see if you can find anything that way. Maybe add logs to your op here.
There aren't many ways to backup things nowadays for pixel 6 but what I have used to backup apps + app data that works well when restoring is Neo app from Fdroid store. As far as backing up goes, at this time I've used nothing that is/has been as solid as Neo. I miss the days of just being able to boot one of a few various custom recoveries, making a nandroid backup to a USB thumb drive with my OTG cable and restore it whenever it was needed but things change. Sounds like maybe something was left behind from your kernel install. If you really dislike formatting I'd stay away from whatever you installed here to get in this loop but definitely backup using Neo once you get going again and put your backups on thumb drive or you PC or somewhere other than your device so you can restore them when you need to. I don't flash nowhere near as much as I used to but I used to flash my device(s) many times a day , everyday for many years but I remember years ago on another device I looped and wiped my cache and system and reflashed rom and ended up booting up. But that was another device years ago. Maybe try adb sideloading instead of factory image flash without wiping data. Try that and after it's done installing reboot to others slot and sideload it again... These things probably won't work but you never know until you try. Did you have magisk installed before and not now? Maybe flash stock kernel patched with magisk to both slots if so. Hate to say it but you will probably end up having to format data but idk because I don't know exactly how you installed the kernel "in detail" or exactly what kernel it is or if anything else was changed from before you looped ... No logs...
I've been using Android since the beginning (G1) and I've been tinkering with my devices since back in the Nexus S days on a regular basis and I've found that the best way for to get the help I need is to try like hell to figure whatever it is out myself by searching for the problem I'm having, I mean like really searching, sometimes for hours , sometimes maybe searching for things related to the problem I'm having that show up in my searches, sometimes the answer can be in another devices forum, piecing together bits of info from various places to try and solve whatever it is... etc ... etc... But the best way to get help is do research on it, take some notes, try various things to fix it, then if I still can't figure it out make a post about it here and in op attach every log I can possibly gather from said device, include all the things I tried to fix it with myself "in detail..." My exact installation process, you know like: reboot bootloader, was on slot A, executed ./flash-all.sh for factory image xxxxx, rebooted system ... The more details you provide the more accurate people will be when answering and the more people you will get to reply.. I'm not trying to sound like some asshole or anything at all. Im just speaking what works best here to get answers. Sometimes you just don't get any answers even if you post 18 paragraphs with a chart and a line graph, things you tried, what all you tried it with and links to it all. But anyone here who does this will most definitely stand a much better chance at getting some replies on whatever it is. I sometimes read over on Reddit and Tele groups , sometimes answers can be found that way. Sometimes people just give you the silent treatment.. Even if you do your homework. That's just a thing with anything related to development that happens. I always used to think when I would get no replies that the other guys and gals who know the answer are thinking to themselves, "oh look at this idiot here!" "He clearly didn't graduate from Harvard top of his class with a PhD like we did. " " Such an imbecile!!! " But what could have been going on and more than likely was/is is life , kids, bills, sleep, relationships, covid19, and tons of other things..
Some of this development stuff is a real beech to get and everyone works hard to get it and many aren't too fond of just giving random people answers that took them many sleepless nights to get. But if and when a dev sees someone with a detailed post , things tried.... etc ... etc .. Theyre much more likely to throw some knowledge your way. That's been my experience anyway.
@flash713
Wow, thx for thw write up, appreciate!
I was on latest QPR2.1 with Radioctive Kernel, Magisk installed.
Since the device got stuck in the boot animation, I tried a lot and flashed different factory images using the flash-all method. w/o success.
Also tried the Flash tool in the google website, also w/o success.
When the device boots while it's connected to the PC, it beeps/vibrates 3 times and the reboots.
My guess is that it has problems to load the launcher, Nova was set as standart.
I'm using android since years, tinkering a lot, but I'm not a pro in doing so.
Meanwhile i set up my new Pixel 7 and restored it via Google backup and a few apps by using a SWIFT backup.
Fotos were restored by Google, but all whatsapp pictures are messed up ow, cause the date of restore.
How do I gather proper logs?
Did a last attempt and sideloaded the OTA to both slots...same outcome...
Doesn't magisk have a remove all modules.zip? I mean oriole doesn't have TWRP available yet.
I presume that when it's bootlooping you don't have any ADB?
You did have ADB enabled, right?
Depending on system and setup you may have ADB started by init or started by Android.
Your problem could be as simple as a bad Launcher.
I don't know if the P6 has a UART console. Does it?
Hi Renate,
thx for your reply.
Yes, that is what i thought. The Pixel boots up into the G-animation and then loops 3 times (beeping/vibrating if connected to PC) and than reboots in total.
I think I had something like that in the past when I accidently deleted the launcher apk (don't ask )
Anyway, Nova launcher was set as standart, so the only idea could be to set the genui Pixel launcher as default, but I don't know how to do that in fastboot or adb mode.

I'm still not clear if you have ADB ever available.
If you do you could:
Code:
adb uninstall com.nova.whatever.launcher
If the /data/data that Nova is using is corrupt or missing it could cause failure.
Android will switch to whatever else belongs to android.intent.category.HOME automatically.
If there is nothing there you can install another launcher.
Have adb (after booting into recovery mode), will report back asap
I habe adbd device connected via recovery/rescue mode, but that's not working.
In bootloader, I can't use adb, no device connected.
Hw can I use adb while the device is not booted up?
Can you mount data in recovery (and it's unecrypted)?
Feeling a bit dumb, but I can only boot into fastboot or into the boot loop, don't know how to mount data in recovery mode (the one with the andoird robot)
When you're in the boot loop you don't get adb even for a few seconds?
This are the last lines of the recovery.log

Checked that by opening a cmd and using "adb devices", but nothing showed up
When you're viewing that log, don't you have ADB working then? It says that it is.
I had this weird issue on Raven, first try using android flash tool through a chrome based browser. If that still loops then wipe, and flash an older image. For some reason I had to flash an image from the previous month and that would boot.
