I didn't receive it yet. If I sim unlocked my moto Z, is it possible that I don't receive ota updates?
Those who have not got will be receiving by the end of this year.
A system image is available?
I have the Rogers version and am still waiting for the update. On twitter they said it is still being rolled out slowly to users.
Thank you for the information

Hi. How well or differently has your Moto Z run since the upgrade to Nougat?
For example, you can change the screen's resolution, Daydream and others application with the VR like youtube VR are available, the notification's panel is customizable.
I didn't receive the ota update but I installed the update manually with adb commands.

Is the update carrier specific? Mine is Telus, and I haven't received the OTA either, but if I could manually flash the Rogers version...
I know you could with Samsung, I did it many times with my previous phones. It was the same software Canada wide (multi CSC).
Telus deployed the Nougat update, you can install the Rogers version but the deployement is very slow, several people didn't receive the update. I think you can't change the CSC only like Samsung's smartphone. You can flash the rogers version of MM then you flash the international version of Nougat.

I just side loaded Nougat via ADB and it worked great. I didn't have to flash the Rogers MM version first.
Ho okay good! I was thinking that you has to flash Rogers version because somebody said it an other thread.

Is there a way to update the rogers moto z without unlocking the bootloader?
Edit: never mind. I was able to use adb to update my phone without unlocking the bootloader. Awesome!

Hello,
I have an LG g3 (Verizon VS985) which is non rooted and in stock condition, The thing is I bought it from open market and I am not a Verizon user which means it is sold most probably after being career unlocked or tampered, Everything in the phone works like a charm but today I got this problem with the software update
The problem is that my phone always gives me up to date status when i check for updates, i thought it must be some problem with the update servers or my phone so i tried updating via Verizon Software upgrade assistant on PC.
The software tells me the same that my phone is up to date whereas we all know that Verizon has rolled out VS98511C update 3 days ago.
The weird thing is that the phone # it shows in upgrade assistant is 000000000, which i think is because it is career unlocked.
I want help regarding the fix to this problem and how can i update to VS98511C , Kindly guide me in detail to get latest updates as I am new to all this and I am waiting for Android L update on my phone as well. I like my phone to be stock for a while because i like new G3 interface, before i root it and install custom roms.
P.S : I wonder how to do the update.zip procedure and will it work ? given the tampered nature of carrier.

Your 2nd to last paragraph seems misinformed - you should NOT update if you EVER want to be able to root and/or run custom roms. Currently, the 11c update blocks the ability to root, and contains an anti-rollback safeguard. I would strongly suggest avoiding it like the plague. Just my 2c.
Actually rooting is not the primary thing here. I like stock rom better so update is the priority.... I hope someone helps me.

Whatever is going on with your phone, it has nothing to do with it not being carrier locked. None of the Verizon LG G3's were ever carrier locked. Even stock unrooted as they ship they will accept any GSM sim. Mine works on T-Mobile and ATT GSM and LTE, for example, as well as Verizon LTE, depending on which sim I currently have installed.
As far as getting your G3 back to factory v10b, you will need to search XDA for instructions on how to restore the v10b .TOT file. Since your intent is to get the OTA to install, destroying your G3 probably forever as far as development is concerned, you are on your own for that project. I have done it. Its tricky but works, but once you are on the OTA afterwards you are out of the game altogether and cannot even restore a working factory image At All, even if you need to.

Ok tha ks for clarifying... Can you olease explain what is v10b ? Sorry for the noob question xD
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app
Version 10b is the firmware that Verizon originally shipped on the G3. There has been one update so far. That is called the Over The Air (OTA) update. Your phone will automatically update if it is on the stock firmware (v10b).

Ok so the thing is if my phone is on factory software why havent i recieved the update like others...? I mean it should normally.
Does update depend on area because I am outside US right now
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app
That is probably the problem, being outside the USA and so, I guess not on Verizon's network? If you have a different vendor sim chip installed, that might also block the OTA.
If I were you, I would root you G3 with stump-root, then bump it to install TWRP recovery, then keep an eye out here on XDA for the developers to release a TWRP-flashable version of the safe and useful parts of the OTA (if any) and apply them via TWRP.
Thanks for clarification.... I will do it on the weekend, can i send you PM if i need some assistance during root n all ...?

I've got this ok T-Mobile. Afraid it i update it, I will lose GSM support. Please let us know if this breaks GSM or not. Thanks
my mom just updated without asking, and she didn't lose GSM support for her sim, it worked just fine after the boot.
Just got the prompt too. Moto e xt1528 Verizon prepaid model. I am running on post paid. Not going to update until I know what this is, but my guess is a security patch for dirty cow.
https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/motorola-moto-e-update/
"This software update has been tested to optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches.
Software Version: 23.211.7.surnia_verizon.verizon.en.US vzw"
Just applied the update and my TMo GSM service is still working after it restarted -- still Android 5.1 but security patch level is 2016-10-01 (before it was April I think)
Ok everyone, it's safe to install it then, it's just updated security for the stock firmware
Thanks for the confirmation. I will update my dad's phone then.
I wonder if the sprint variant will receive this update? (Xt1526).

I updated my dads phone. On reboot it didn't connect to tmobile. APN was erased. I entered tmobile APN and still nothing. Then I rebooted and it connected. Whew. Looks good so far. Actually when I typed in all of APN info it wouldn't take. So I typed in name and APN saved then rest of APN and saved again.
Stock 5.1 rom for XT1527 with AT&T (U.S.A.) firmware, essentially stock as is - OTA downloaded, sim card is for T-Mobile USA. Took about 20 minutes to flash, update once pressed OK to update & then rebooted itself, make sure battery is 50% to 75% charged - as always, backup your important data/storage content first.
Robooted on its own and everything is working, no issues with T-Mobile functions, etc. - it is security patches & update, bring it current & more up-to-date (10/1/2016), still 5.1 of course. Successfully updated, build will be shown as LPIS23.29-18.9-6
update without problems, working with GSM Movistar México Sim...... nothing was changed like the apn... the battery life is the improvement that i found.....
anybody has the firmware for this update? or the OTA file?
Hi, got this phone for 1 month now used MM for 2 weeks then updated to Nougat but I didnt like it. Now I want to downgrade to MM is it possible with RSD Lite? If yes how? If no will factory reset solve battery drain, awfull notifications, over heating problems?
How did you upgrade? If you updated the bootloader to the N version, I'm not sure if you can revert back to MM.
OTAs are the Evil. :silly:
Updated via OTA. I could downgrade Samsung S4 isnt it possible with Moto Z? I did hard reset, downloaded my apps then closed my phone and charged it. I don't know what happened while phone was booting but it wasn't %100 battery charge btw. This battery life is killing me..
I'm sure you are not able to get back to Marshmallow because the OTA installs a new bootloader that is incompatible with the original Marshmallow

So I have to wait for fix eh
Which version did you apply?
If you updated to Nougat via OTA, there is currently no safe and simple way to downgrade back to Marshmallow as the OTA also updates the bootloader, meaning that Nougat is the oldest OS that is supported on that bootloader.
That's why I unlocked the bootloader on mine and used the technique outlined in the following thread. Not only do you get a perfectly working Nougat OS but also allows you to keep the old bootloader should you decide to downgrade to Marshmallow.

Ah, I was hoping you had the first release of N. But it looks like you have the current one.
If someone reveals easy and safe way to downgrade please tag me I don't have much time to check forums
Nougat upgrade OTA leaves you in a tough position
My new Moto Z took an update from stock MM to Nougat 3 days after I got it. Stupid me, I should not have accepted the OTA update. But I did. And you cannot go back to MM because the update contains a new bootloader that makes it a one way trip.
Search my other posts in the last few days to see that you are not totally prevented from unlocking and rooting. But unlocking the bootloader leaves a trail forever because a solid state fuse gets tripped forever.

I did not downgrade from 7.0.
I unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone with twrp 3.xx and then used phh's Superuser.
But I must admit that I have not loaded a third party ROM yet. I want to load stock 7.1.1 when Motorola releases it in February or March.
Question would it be possible to use RDS light or the program at the beginning of this form to unlock set bootloader and then proceed to route

There no point in relocking your bootloader. Starkiller uploaded the full ota. You need to reflash firmware and dont root it. My guide has the instructions for reflashing stock. After you do that put the ota file in the root of your sd card then go to settings, apps, and find Moto update services and allow it to have access to your sd card. Then go the update Moto software from settings
---------- Post added at 04:23 PM ---------- 3Previous post was at 04:18 PM ----------
But the ota starkiller uploaded is for the boost Mobile variant xt1922-7 not for xt1922-9 sorry I forgot about that. Do not use the ota I mentioned. Best you can do untill your pie update is uploaded on mirrors is either wait for the ota to hit your device then reflash stock firmware then take the pie ota or just wait. Either way you still need to be on unrooted stock firmware. relocking your bootloader does absolutely nothing anymore basically.
Wait, so if I get the XT1922-9 model (Best Buy/Target) I'll be stuck on Oreo? I guess that's the downside of not getting a carrier-locked phone.
Heres the link to the US Cellular Pie https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/jeter/official/USC/

Can anyone confirm this as a fact? I bought an unlocked model XT1922-9 from Lenovo direct.
I actually want to remain on 8/Oreo because 9/Pie blocks call recording apps. :fingers-crossed:
If I got stuck on Pie, I'd have to root in order to get call recording back. I'd rather not bother!
if anyone is bummed Motorola is taking so long to update our unlocked g6 play/wanting updated vendor and stuff to run pie gsi's and looking to flash pie for unlocked retus jeter (xt1922-9,) just flash the USC version on lolinet. Everything I have tested so far works just fine, only thing I have not tested yet is sim(calling, text, data.) My IMEI is still being shown in settings so I'm guessing when I pop in my verizon sim everything will be fine but YMMV. Make sure your bootloader is unlocked first before flashing because the boot.img will give a bad key message but it works fine.
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/jeter/official/USC/
in about phone, software channel still says US retail even with the USC firmware.
Use the repair guide at the bottom of this post for the fastboot flashing instructions:

Maybe I should have phrased it better. Is Pie coming to this model at all? It seems like Pie is being reserved for carrier-branded phones, perhaps as incentive to get a carrier-branded phone instead of an unlocked non-carrier-branded phone. If that is not the case, is Motorola/Lenovo waiting till the last minute? Cause Android Q will be here in a few months (August).
