Usually, you flash a custom recovery using ODIN with the phone in download mode, so you don't need root for that.
Almost all custom ROMs come already rooted. So, if you flash a custom ROM either through ODIN or the Recovery, you should get root automatically. The only exceptions are Stock ROMs where someone has either debloated or de-ODEXed the Stock ROM.

[Q] root twrp help

I rooted manually following ZedoMax's method here http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-4g-l...tc-evo-4g-lte-unlock-bootloadertwrp-recovery/ and everything was going great until i had to flash the CWM file. it said failed. Im not sure how to fix it. I am on hboot 1.19. is there maybe an updated file that i need to download?
If you flash a rooted rom you don't need to flash CWM root, that is just to enable root in stock. If you want to keep a mostly stock rom you can the flash stock with goodies package in Android development

What should do next after failing installing ROM's and having boot loops problems

Im tired of installing many ROM's and 2 different Recovery, some "cant open .zip" and having boot problems, and in other recovery, it can install roms, but other aslo cant open .zip, and also having boot problems,
Im really tired of reflashing stock ICS Fw then root, install Recovery again, after failing installing ROMs.. its too long to reflash, root, install recovery,, its waste my time and having headache after failing installing ROMs for almost a week
Is there any fast solution or what would you do after you fail installing ROMs and cant boot? even do you can enter recovery? what proper should do next? would you also reflash again stock ICS then root and install recovery?
or any other fast way solution..
Please help
Root and install recovery onto your device. Enter recovery and make a nandroid back up of your device. Flash your new rom and reboot the device. If you boot loop or the rom doesn't work or even if you just don't like it, enter recovery (may have to remove the battery to restart a boot cycle) and use your nandroid back up to restore your device.
Before flashing the new rom, you should make sure that the kernel is compatible with the one that is already on your device. If it isn't compatible, you will also want to flash the new kernel using fastboot/flashtool, and not recovery. Also make sure you have a back up of your rom's current kernel so you can flash the original kernel, if you decide to go backwards.

Thanks I think that what im looking for.. the Nandriod backup..
gota way to find that now and how to install
Thanks a lot!
Hmmm...the most easiest way it to unlock your bootloader first...then flash custom kernel...this can help you skip rooting and installing recovery again and again if something goes wrong cause all custom kernel is pre-rooted and got recovery by default....
next you need to find which custom roms you want to flash...some custom roms have their own kernel or flash any custom kernel that is compatible with the roms....
remember, custom kernel is important cause if you flash the wrong kernel, you might get bootloop after flashing the roms....

[Q] Stock recovery with root

So after scearching thousands of threads i understand everything about kernel, custom roms, stock roms.
Im trying to get all together like a puzzle.
Ony thing i want to know but can't find the answer anywhere on the internet.
I have custom recovery TWRP with root.
Is it possible to temporary unroot the device with OTA rootkeeper app, flash stock recovery and than restore root back with the app.
So i can download future update flawless.

Edit ----------------------------------
Just flashed stock recovery and kept root, no any rootkeep apps needed for this.
Basically i have a Hox+ with:

Unlocked bootloader
Stock kernel
And root

Is it possible to install a new ROM without a pc?

I have a Note 3 SM-N900V rooted 4.4.2 and have been using biggins rom v7. I can't get new apps because a lot of them require 5.0 or higher. Don't have a computer handy for another day and was wondering if it's possible to install a new ROM without a pc? I have superuser, towelroot and safestrap.

Yes, if you've any custom recovery installed on your device.
Download the rom, wipe, flash the Rom zip via custom recovery. That's it.
Requirements -
*.An unlocked bootloader is must and should.
*.Custom recovery like Philz or TWRP is must and should.
Stock Recoveries are used to only install updates hence they have no manual functionality.
There is no gui , so you cant do anything without pc.
But if you have a custom recovery like philz , twrp , you can do practically anything without a pc , but ofc to get custom recovery , you need a pc..
You need pc for the following:
1.Unlocking your device.
2.Rooting and flashing custom recovery to your device.
After you've done these steps , you can do everything you ever wanted without a pc.
Flashing a ROM without a pc is possible if you already have custom recovery installed. flashing a custom recovery for your devices is a must if you want to do anything with it.
