I'm getting ready to give up after looking things up online, this is a last attempt to get suggestions of things to try.
I'll start with the current state, will explain how it got there below. So my Lenovo Tab s8-50 is hard-bricked. It won't display anything, the screen stays off. I tried any combination of the buttons combination to get to the recovery mode (power+vol.up+vol.dn) for 20 seconds, while plugged, unplugged, plugging it while buttons were pressed down, plugging off while buttons were pressed. Tried the same with only power button and power+vol.dn. The screen just remains off, nothing visible happens. It's probably obvious at this point, but plugging it to a windows computer gives me nothing, adb daemon does not find it either.
It had an SD card formatted as internal storage. That SD card is fine and readable in another device, but for some reason it took pictures only up to a point, a couple of months before the tablet got bricked (possibly i manually transferred all pics to the SD card manually at one point, I don't recall). I would like to know if there is any way to get back the pictures that were stored on the internal memory. Obviously if the device can be brought back online, even better, but i care mostly about the pictures.
How it got bricked : so the tablet belongs to a tech-unsavvy relative. She wanted to transfer pictures to her computer, an old toshiba laptop running Linux Mint. I instructed from afar her to plug it in that computer and select MTP transfer from the tablet's notification bar. She says she did that, but there is a chance she did something different, although nothing that takes more than a couple of taps to reach - she'd have freaked out and asked for help. Then she left, the plan being that i would do the transfer via teamviewer when i had a minute. When I tried i didn't see the tablet on the linux laptop, I figured she hadn't selected the right USB mode. A few hours later she came back home and the tablet wouldn't turn on. I'm not sure how it got bricked during that time, perhaps the laptop went to sleep or hibernate although it is set to not do anything like that unless the battery goes critical, and it is always plugged in.
Any input, help, suggestion of things to try would be very much appreciated. Thanks for reading this far

Last night I bought a brand new Streak 5 from a local guy. Box was sealed, no mention of refurb, inner contents were sealed.
I didn't have time to test it and the guy I bought it from said he had gotten it a while back from a work raffle and that it had been sitting in a drawer in his house - I have no reason not to trust that he was lying to me.
When I actually got time to unbox it, I popped the battery in and tried to turn it on. The menu buttons lit up briefly and then when out. The screen never came on. Since then, it has been completely unresponsive.
I've tried to charge it with the wall charger, as well as my PC. Neither seem to be doing anything and my PC doesn't recognize it - even with Dell's software installed.
I've tried to take out the battery and hook it up to the wall charger and my PC to get it to turn on.
I've removed the Micro SD.
There is no SIM card in it currently.
I ordered another battery and an external battery charger. They should be here in a few days. I have the current battery rigged up and charging with a spliced USB cord.
What else can I do? I feel like I've done everything "simple" thus far and I'm a little nervous when it comes to utilities like Streakflash.
I'm coming over from the iPhone world and my Android use has been limited at best. Any help is appreciated.
What happens on the device itself after having had a chance to charge?
Does it light up when you press the power button, or nothing at all?

There is no indication that it's charging. The screen doesn't come on, or even flash. The buttons do not light up. However, I don't believe it's the cable or the connector since my PC responds with an unrecognized device -- "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" prompt. I also managed to get my PC to tell me that the device "wasn't plugged in."
I've tried to get some response out of it in every possible combination regarding the buttons, battery, back cover, microSD, and where it's plugged in. It just sits there. No lit screen, no lit menu buttons, nothing.
If it helps, I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. I've installed every possible thing I could find regarding the Dell drivers and my OS.
It sounds like your device somehow got shipped without having all the software installed onto it.
Can you provide more information about the device itself, such as it's manufacture date or any other info on the box/device labels? Devices getting shipped half baked like that isnt exactly common.
This sounds like a legitamate time to use QDL tool to reflash it, but I cant provide any help with that as I've never used it.
Can you use QDLTool if your computer doesn't even recognize it?
The date on the label is 10/12/2010.
If it's displaying as "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" that's a sign that it should be able to get into upload mode as that's what the driver qdl tool uses I believe.
It's likely out of warrentee already, so you prob have to fix it on your own if at all.
I can't get it to respond to anything I do. It's very disheartening. I really, really wanted this phone, too.
I'm downloading the latest version of Ubuntu. I'm going to see if I can make any headway through Linux.
I can't get QDLTool to pick-up the device, either. I get an error message when I try to use it and scanning for it does nothing.
Did you install the driver bundled with it properly?
If it still doesnt detect it after that it's likely a dud

once installed run the software on pc you should see a big box with "run" on it, click run then connect phone by holding volume up and connecting usb then qdltool will do rest from there
when i got my both my dell streak it was the same deal. first one came exactly as how you described it. I put in the battery, made SURE THAT THE CONNECTORS ARE lined up on the back case, and then tried to power it on. NOTHING.
It seems even if the battery was fully charged, the only real way to turn it on was to connect the streak to the power adapter and then press hold down the on button. WHen the device finally gave me the dell logo, it would just sit there stuck. So i took out the battery, and redid it. Then went into fastboot mode (hold camera and power) and it wouldnt detect the touch screen. It seems that the touch scree was faulty and hence it would remain stuck on the dell logo. I tried to calibrate the touch screen a few times, all failed. Then finally for one time it worked, and the touch screen came back to life. Shortly after though upon booting into the old stage 1.6, it restarted and the touch screen failed again.
So i sent it back to rogers and they gave me a replacement phone. Same deal, when you first put in the battery and the case it wouldnt start no matter what. Only upon plugging it into the power adapter then it starts up. However this new one had a functional touch screen.
1) check out the touch screen by using the fastboot, or stock recovery. If you get error messages, it means your screen is toast most likely and then you might have to open her up and see if all the connections are lined up
2) if it doesnt boot at all, try connecting it to the power adapter first and then after about 30 seconds power it on. You should be able to see the dell logo unless as the guys stated before the software is hosed.
3) if the software is totally hosed, tried to get it into fastboot mode or recovery and see if you can reflash the device.

As of now, it's still in the same position it was in. It doesn't respond to any combinations of buttons, battery in/or, or plugged into the wall/pc.
I'm assuming that the situation it's in currently is what's preventing any sort of legitimate connection between the phone and my PC.
My last shot is a battery and external charger that should be here next week.
I have a 4gb micro SD card and today I had to do a battery pull because my phone decided to have one of it's 'random freeze moments' as I was downloading a song. When I turned my phone back on, my phone didn't recognize my SD card, just acted as if there wasn't one, so I took off the battery cover and pulled out the SD card and it was really hot. It was also very slightly bent out of shape and had a tiny crack across the halfway mark. I'm scared to try and bend it back because I don't wanna break it in half. Later I put it into an adapter (it somehow fit enough to slide in) and plugged it into my computer. The computer did nothing for a few minutes, so I decided to just pull it out. I put my fingers on the adapter (it's a usb cord that I can put my micro SD card in) and it almost burned my fingers off.
I know now not to be an idiot and buy a not-so-great card and to backup everything I have, but is there any way I can get the stuff on the card back or is it gone? And am I safe to put another SD card in my phone or will it turn it into a stove?

Almost exactly the same thing happened with my 16BG Micro SD in my Droid 4. There was no obvious crack or deformity, but my phone battery was draining really quickly so I plugged it into the USB charger. A few minutes later, when I needed to move the phone out of my way it was CRAZY hot. I could not get the phone to "wake up" and tried shutting it down and restarting it, with no success. I plugged it back into the USB cord and the green light on the phone lit up, but the computer did NOT ask if I wanted to view the contents of the attached mass storage device. It generally does that hourly while attached. I called Verizon Tech Support and after being transferred to "Tier 2" I was told a replacement phone would be sent. I got to thinking about why the phone battery was draining so quickly and remembered I had turned on ALL the GPS/Location Service options for some app I ran the night before. I thought MAYBE I could somehow get the phone to turn on just long enough to turn those battery killers off. I left it attached to the PC, twice it started to turn on (Batwing/Droid logos) but changed its mind.
After work, I plugged into my wall charger figuring it wouldn't hurt, since a new phone is due to arrive Monday. After a few hours I could turn it on while attached to the charger, turn off the location services, and it slowly began to charge. It felt hot when I unplugged it, and the battery still seemed to be draining fast. Furthermore, it said my SD card was using an unrecognized file system, and offered to format it, but failed when I agreed. Next, I tried the MicroSD card in my tablet, which could not read it. It seemed the card was quite hot upon removal 20 minutes later. I put it in an adapter, and tried it on my laptop. I could see it listed as a drive "Removable Media" but could not access it as it was "unformatted". I tried formatting it within Windows but was unsuccessful. I dropped to DOS and tried running chkdsk, but was informed that chkdsk can not run on a RAW format drive. I haven't a CLUE what an RAW formatted drive is, but plan to Google it to find out. I tried formatting,(from the command prompt) and it would get most of the way through, then tell me that then FAT sector was bad. I tried again, before removing the "very VERY hot" card and adapter. Without an SD card, the phone was cool. I put in another card, and the battery is not draining particularly fast, the device seems cool, and I learned something new about SD cards, I had thought the advantage of solid state storage was cool operation, low power consumption, and less risk of data loss or corruption. But when it fails, it seems that all three qualities degrade simultaneously, and it runs hot, eats battery power, and you lose everything on it. Live and learn.
it is better not to insert one coz I think u might go to service center and check the hardware.

Based on the statements youve made, Ive come to think that it is your phones overheating battery/CPU/GPU. Is your phone under warranty?

This is almost identical to what happened to me.
I lost some work too.
I had to reset my phone.
Shortly afterwards, the phone did an operating system update.
I posted in the off chance that someone knows how to retrieve the data from the SD card in the future

That almost sounds like the card internally shorted so it was drawing a bunch of current which would lead to heat and battery drain issues. Flash memory is usually more reliable since its solid state but theres always the possibility of hardware failure. Was this card brand new or did it just start acting up one day? If it was relatively new I'd try getting it warrantied, since this sounds like a hardware defect.
yup.. I got a problem aftwr trying to put it on my rasp pi 3b plus.. then when i try to check or insert again on my laptop.. my 128 gb.. got hot so quickly.. i think its hardware.. but damn.. i just bought it few days back

I'm truly desperate tonight. This morning I was at work and recieved a phone call. Answered, everything was fine, and put the phone back again on my desk. Half an hour ater, wanted to send a text, so I tried using the phone: screen remained black. I was like "ok,, this stupid S2 froze again, I'll just reboot it bu pulling the battery out".
Did so and........ still nothing. WTF? So I tried plugging it to charge (AC adapter). No "battery" symbol on screen, nothing. Starting to freak out a bit... I trie with a colleague's AC Adapter, same deal. I also tried with his battery, still no go. Phone remains totally off, nothing on screen, can't enter download mode. The only change when I remove the battery/put it back in is that the phone remains cold at first, and then a couple seconds (30?) after I hit the power button, you can start feeling CPU/GPU getting warmer on the right of the camera lens. So basically there's electricity flowing.
Tonight I gave it a go and opened it up to check if something's fried inside. The only odd thing was that BAT500 (google for some explainations) had leaked but the leak was NOT (and I really mean it) causing damages (yet). I removed the battery, as it does not impact dramatically the phone (just causes the date etc to reset to 01/01 when you remove the battery, apparently). But phone still won't boot, no logo, no "battery chrging", no light on screen...
This really looks like the "hard brick" emmc bug, however I've been running 4.0.3 rooted with Chainfire's CWM kernel for the last 6 months or so, and I never did any wipe or "reset to factory". So the so-called "hard brick bug" shouldn't occur. But symptoms sure look like it.
So to get back to my opening phrase, I am truly desperate. I do have backups of nearly every SMS/MMS (maybe not the last 2-3 days but well... I'll get over it) on my Gmail account, however what I don't have is a backup of my contacts. For some reasons, I don't like my contacts to be synced with Gmail, so they were left on the phone's memory (and not the SD card, because I always thought (how stupid of me) "well why put a SD card inside when there's like 16GB of embed storage ?!"). So I'm f**ked for my contacts, and also for many many pictures that were still inside the phone and not yet extracted to my computer.
So the question (for which I fear I already have the answer): is there ANYTHING I can do? i've contacted a guy in Paris who owns a USB jig, so I'll give it a try this week-end if he's available. But other than that, is there ANY way to recover something from my brick? Or someone witha genius idea of how to turn it back on for at least 5-10 minutes... ?

I posted this in XDA Assist, but as I suspected, I've well hosed this one, with probably no way up, but here goes. I promise, next time I won't be so wild. I know now that if you must burn your bridges, don't be standing on them!

It's rooted with Vroot, has SuperSU and Titanium Backup Pro, shows rooted.
Had ADB working, tablet taking commands.
I first tried to put in CWM recovery for the HSG1279, supposed to be the same tablet, just bigger screen. I don't even know now whether THAT'S true or not.
Started in recovery mode, but was just stock, so I tried arctools to put in a generic Rockchip CWM 6.0.3.1. That's when things started going sideways. The install hung (imagine that!). The arctools had a forced restart of some kind, so I used that. When I got back to my home screen (whew!), I used Titanium backup to see what recovery mode looked like. The tablet went dark, and would not power on. I did the paper clip trick, which got it started, but did NOT wipe anything out, so not a hard reset. Any time after that when I tried to restart in recovery mode, the hard shutdown with the clip was required. Yesterday afternoon, I went off to work for about 3 hours, leaving the tablet on, but in standby. When I came back, the tablet was dark and no amount of paper clipping would help. It would not recognize a charge. Not being one to duck a fight, I opened the case and unsoldered the black (-) wire at the PC board. The battery measured some voltage, but I didn't notice how much, about 1/4 on the 25v. scale. I soldered it back on, put it back together without any further incident. It sill does just what it was doing...nothing. I have noticed that when it's plugged into my PC's USB port, and I reset with the clip, Unknown Device shows up in my PC's Devices And Printers list. When I unplug the cable, I get the stock Windows "be-boop" USB removal sound. When I plug it back in, I get a short "boo-boo-boop" sound. That's where it is now. Anyone have any ideas on getting it going again? For me, no more trying files that aren't made specifically for this oddball tablet. This has been a fairly expensive lesson in that.

So just yesterday I was on here asking how to load/install apps from/to a USB device. I'm unsure if it's something I did to cause this or if it was just my tablet acting up.
I installed 2 new apps, "StickMount" and "FolderMount". StickMount is supposed to be for mounting/unmounting the USB I plug in, and FolderMount is supposed to connect installed apps to the usb in a "pair" so that they can load off of the USB instead of the device.
I had moved a few apps, one being LuckyPatcher, over to usb. However it really didn't seem to do anything. In fact, I'm pretty sure doing that added onto the existing used space (so it took more not less). The other two were just some games I was playing at the time (for testing).
Everything was running normal, I plugged the tablet in as it was close to death (like 14% if I remember correctly). Few hours go by, I decide to use it. Double tap the screen, no response. Click power, no response. HOLD power, nothing. I decide that maybe it was just dead and needed a charge, so I left it in as I went to sleep.
Wake up, and repeat. Nothing happens. I plug it into the computer, computer doesn't show anything is connected. Leave it for like hour to see if it'd charge, nothing. Tried using the steps on the google product forums, and nothing helped.
All the topics on here are people mentioning their tablets are in a similar state and they don't have a solution posted.. Or they say to send it in for repairs. I can't do that as I won this in a contest and there's no warranty or insurance on it.
Is there ANY way I can get this out of this brick state?
P.S: I forgot to mention, When I was taking my case off it, after it was already in the brick state, the nexus tablet itself started to come apart.. That's not normal is it?
P.P.S: I can't link to the page as I have not made enough posts. Googling "Nexus 9 won't boot" should get a product forums link, the user in there posts the link to the troubleshooter. Was just things like holding power and volume down, plugging it in and waiting 15 mins. so on.
