Help with corrputed Download Manager. - Remix OS for PC

So the other day, for some reasons my partition that I used to install RemixOS on was corrupted, so I had to run chkdsk /f on it. After that I was able to log into RemixOS again, but a problem arised: Play Store would crash out whenever I try to update an app. After a little bit of looking around the internet, the problem seems to be coming from Download Manager malfunctioning. I've tried doing things like clearing cache/data, restarting, etc. but it still doesn't work. So I've come to a conclusion that the Download Manager must be corrupted and couldn't be fixed when chkdsk was running.
What would be the best way of making it work again, without reinstalling, because I want to keep my data safe. Going to external sites just to update your programs gets tedious really fast.

If you can download from external sites, then the Download Manager should fine.
Have you tried updating the Play Store?

No, I can't download on RemixOS anymore, doesn't work on browsers also. I have to download them from Windows and use them in RemixOS.

Ah.
Then in that case, try going into Settings>Applications>Download Manager>Permissions, and try manually disabling and re-enabling all of the permissions (although it should only ask for the Storage permission).
Perhaps the same should be done also with Downloads.

Both have no permission requested.
I compared it with my phone (which is also running Android 6.0) to make sure and both apps also didn't have any permissions, but Play Store on my phone doesn't get the symptoms like on RemixOS, so I think it's definitely a corrupted Download Manager. But I don't know how to reinstall it besides reinstalling RemixOS.

Well, you could try pulling the APKs and odex files from the ISO, mounting /system as RW, replacing the files, mounting /system as RO, clearing cache and dalvik cache, ending with a full reboot.

Run e2fsck -f data.img
if you can't do that in windows you can do it from DEBUG=1 on grub

Hey, just to make sure, do you need Cygwin for this or does it come with the RemixOS installation? I don't know a lot about Linux, and that's a command that I've never heard of - until just now. And after a little bit of googling around I came across Cygwin.
The reason why I ask this is because when I add DEBUG=1 on grub it just shows a bunch of ext3 problems and incompatible something problems - probably because the partition that I installed RemixOS on is NTFS? And the issue is yet to be fixed.
Sorry for being an idiot.
EDIT: Still didn't work after running said command in Windows.

Yea, it's like chkdsk but for ext. The system.img and data.img are ext4. If you are running a recent version on Win10 you should have 'Bash for Windows' type 'bash' in a command prompt to check.

He would first need to enable the developer tools, and then install the system component for that.

Hate to dig up an old thread, but this same exact thing has happened to me on my old Remix OS device, and due to it's special "Tri-Boot" config of Win 10, MacOS, and Remix OS, I'd prefer to keep it installed and repair it than completely re-install everything all over again.
Never saw any replies of a solution, so if anyone found one let me know, otherwise I'll just give up and re-install everything again next week.

Virus in the phone?! Need advice!

Hello guys!
Yesterday, i notice in my memory card a folder named "cache-49038502", and in the last while, my phone was wery slow, and i got internal memory like 115mb, in my opinion should run smooth. The system didn't make this folder, so i try to erase it....it got me error deleting file.
I download from market the antivirus, i scaned and my phone was very clean. Still i cant erase the folder! Then i format my sd, and i give a factory data reset, then no folder, i try to sync with the computer, then the folder is back again, i repeat again the steps above and is clean again.! Is clear that is from computer! Till my computer it will be clean, i wont be able to sync, add music, picture for my contact's! So what i got to do to got all of my things back to my phone? It is a virus?! I never hear sombody to got a virus in to a phone... So any of u confront this problem? I got a Hero, not rooted yet ! Thank you in advance!

Your phone doesn't a virus - your PC does! Everytime you mount the SD card in your phone as a drive on your PC, the virus is being copied to the "drive".
You need to clean your PC.
Regards,
Dave
Thank you Dave! So, still need to wait to heal my Pc first, then to sync, and add my stuff...
Why do you even think it's a virus? It might (as the name suggests) just be a folder for cache that the syncing/mounting program creates.

Google cache-49038502, and you'll see.

bro its android which is linux. and linux doesnt got virus.
i just wanted to notice that linux kernel of android doesn't "support" ( ) viruses as microsoft operating systems does, so thinking about any antivirus on android is (as for me) crazy. However the "cache" folder that you don't like could be created by browser or android market or any other app you use. so there is no reason to be scared of having virus. android 1,5 is slow (in my openion) and that's why i don't use Touch Flow on my Hero, the default android desktop is good enough

Erm, as has already been said, it's his PC that is infected.....
Probably the best thing to do is to use a file manager like Astro, and delete that folder. Then also check to see if it has put an autorun.cfg file on the root of the card and get rid of that as well.
then at least it should stop it spreading to any other PC's you connect to.
And get your PC cleaned. just download AVG free or Avast free and let them clean it. just let it run while you are at work/school/college/whatever and it should be done by the time you get home.

TB folder on PC, locks PC up

Not too sure if this belongs in Q and A... But I have a Titanium Backup folder copy on my PC. Well, when I try to delete the folder it causes the program to "not respond". So I bring up task manager and "end task". It then closes everything on my PC, and all the desktop icons disappear. There's nothing other then the wallpaper. Only thing that still works is task manager. Restart PC, try again. Same thing. Happens when I put the folder in recycle bin, or by deleting just some of the folder contents. I did some spring cleaning on the PC today, and this is the only problem I've had and its consistant, and specific to this folder. Any ideas on how to delete it?
Use Astro/file explorer/Root broswer to delete it from your device.
That would probably work to get it off my phone, but the problem is on my PC. when I was in newb stages I had a backup of a backup on my PC. It's just this one TB Backup file on my PC that is causing problems and wont delete.
You could move all the files to a folder except the TB Backup and just format the sd card. that could help.
Virus scan your pc, if you haven't already. Or boot into safe mode and that should allow you to delete the file. Or you could do a system restore.

Yeah, did a scan and it didn't pick anything up. But I had a hell of a trojan about a month ago and I was thinking it could possibly have to do with that. Although I did a very deep clean. I will give safe mode a shot. I got the PC from my parents with a bunch of virus/trojan issues only a few months ago, and because of all the cleaning and the other trojan I got....I'm not too positive a system restore will be good. I was going to create a new restore today since all has been great....until this.
Ok sounds like some spyware or malware. As said before boot into SAFE MODE, but select the SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING. Go to http://www.superantispyware.com/ download the free version. Install it, then run superanti spyware. Select to do a COMPLETE SCAN not quick scan. On the next screen select HIGH BOOST and scan inside of ZIP files, which will use most of your cpu it will run about 80% just let it run because it will slow down anything else you try to do. After it is done get rid of the bad files, tracking cookies and/or any trojans left. Reboot the computer, but into safe mode with networking again. Then go to http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and download the free version and install. Run the complete scan in malwarebytes. Let that run and when it finishes is will ask for a reboot. Reboot, again and you should be good to go. I have seen this on teachers computers at least weekly, because of the stupid Ransom WARE. If that doesn't work than my last suggestion would be download combofix from bleepingcomputer and run that. Hope this helps a lil

Yeah, I did something like this in order to get the last trojan off. I tried/have a million virus/anti-malware programs, of course only one active now which is the malwarebytes one. The trojan I had was a Win32/Sirefef one, can't remember specifically which one. But I did have to do a combo fix and I continued to check for about a week after....all was good.

Thank you all for the ideas/help. Much appreciated! Won't be back to the PC until tomorrow, will let you know what I find.
Update... Ran multiple virus scans and nothing showed up on any of them. Tried deleting folder in safe mode, but it still froze up without any icons. Still did the same if I tried erasing only one of the files in the TB folder itself. Permissions were set normal, as other files that I erased with no issues. Ended up erasing all my other phone backups (twrp, etc...) that were in the "BACKUPS" folder, the same folder the TB folder was in. Then I erased the "BACKUPS" folder itself with the TB one in it, and that seemed to do it. Definetly weird, but at least I got it deleted.
Your asking I. The wrong place buddy. This is for EVO 3d questions.

what you need to do to avoid all this is just download any linux live version... i personally use hirens boot cd 15... once downloaded take the image and either burn it do a cd or use a linux installer... i use pendrivelinux load that up and let it install your boot cd to your usb thumb drive....once that is completed reboot your computer and as it reboots have it load the usb drive first once that loads up you then can boot into partition magic and use linux's permissions and rights to over take windows permissions does that all automatically.... from there you right click and delete....need help or info feel free to pm me

I'm asking in the wrong place...is that what u meant? Read from the original post. If it was that far out of the wrong place, it would more then likely have been moved by now. I always search, and search for awhile before posting. It seemed somewhat relative to me do to the fact the file came from my evo3d, and is a file made by an android app everyone rooted uses. I was also aked yo give an update on the problem.

Thanks, this was originally what I was after...but in a windows software program. BUT....I will more then likely do this anyway. Slowly working the noob out...but there's SOOOOOOOOO much to learn (still), I feel overloaded sometimes. I'm in the process of downgrading hboot on the 3d, and downgrading iOS and performing a jailbreak on my old 3g so the boss and kids stop whining at how slow it is and why there's still a phone button on it...lol.

I have been trying for a few weeks to install kali linux on my lg g3. So far with no luck I have tried every guide on the internet but all have failed me can someone give me a detailed walkthrough on how to do so? my sd card is formatted and partitioned to fat32. I wish to install kali to the second 14 gig partition I made and named ext2. my phone is rooted with busy box installed it is the lg g3 S990 runing stock rom 5.0.1
anyone have any experience with this?
Here are some screen shots

I don't think that you can..... They don't offical support it and there is a lot of things you have to take into effect. For example kernel, arm version, and hardware, wifi chips, touch screen drivers and a WHOLE LOT MORE!.
What would you suggest then? I'm debating getting a nexus 7 and installing nethunter on it would that be better??? I've been able to get quite close to having it work

Then I guess the nexus 7 is your best guest unless you get something like a Samsung S2 and put it in monitor mode and use aircrack-ng. Also the raspberry pi thing is pretty good if your like pretty handy you can wire up a battery, pi, and screen then just use a wireless keyboard.

You can install kali linux on linux deploy and run with android VNC
I am running with linux deploy it on my AT&T 3g.
Im pretty sure your problem is in your configuration on preferences. Generally the SD is formatted to FAT which has maximum image file size 4095 MB. So pretty much if you want kali tools then hypothetically you could reformat your SD or external to ext4. There is also a permissions problem because of the image location. Here's how I got around it for now, I just started altering this phone 2 days ago so I'll keep you updated if you want. I moved the environment location to a folder in SD and it has consistently held up to 6000MB which is plenty for the os, necessary additions and a few fun kali tools.
Here's my mini pictorial, it's only my second post so maybe this will help.
Just do the settings like mine, Wait forever while it installs then after it finishes hit reconfigure. It takes a couple of minutes to reconfigure then you press start and wait until it's finished loading, press your home button, open VNC, make sure your port is 5900 and default password is "change me"
Open up a terminal and type "sudo su" make a password, update and make sure you have fun.
When you're finished go back to linux deploy, press stop and then use the menu button to exit the app

[Help] Remix OS 3.0 - How to enable HDD access for Desktop users?

Hi,
I have been using Remix OS for weeks now. It is an amazing operating system. I have tried Linux and Mac as an alternative for Windows, and only Remix OS made me use use it as my main OS. I would keep it as my main OS but I have this major annoyance with the latest version. For some reason, I could not access my secondary hard drive. This sucks because that's were I keep all my files and downloads. If someone could please post a working guide on how to enable it, I would be very thankful.
Thank you.
I'm currently using StickMount & works perfect, except for one thing... SD Maid: I don't know to do to the System Cleaner section not recognize the other partitions... tried adding them to the exclusions but does'nt work, I can only unmount then remount.

Ignore my posted screenshot above. I got it resolved by moving the RMXTools folder to the desktop instead of my secondary hard drive.

thanks again. however, i ended up rolling back to 403 64bit. 3.0 seems slow and laggy in my system. 8ball pool crashes too :/ will wait for a better update.

Remix OS for PC not opening any apps, and not responsive

Hello,
I'm having an odd issue with Remix OS for PC, and wanted to see if anyone else experienced this and hopefully found a resolution. Please see the bottom of the thread for info on my PC setup. My laptop is definitely more than powerful enough to handle remix, and it used to run fine, but now I seem to have the following issues after not booting into Remix for a while:
***Wifi does not automatically connect, it only connects if I click the wifi icon in the tray (then it connects to my network automatically)
***Nearly all apps will not open, including the Settings app. I'll click on an icon on the desktop, and the icon lights up, registering my click, but the app never opens and the icon stays lit as if something froze. However, I can still "swipe" from the left desktop to the right one, and vice versa.
***When attempting to install an app (Eventually, without any rhyme or reason that I've noticed, I can open the Play Store and maybe the settings app), the app hangs on Installing after it downloads. I've tried waiting a good 20 minutes, but I know the apps install much quicker on this laptop, and I've tried this with small apps.
***Similarly to the above, clicking the Remix OS menu button does nothing as well.
With those symptoms in mind, it seems like there's something holding the system back, but the actual GUI performance is fine. For example, there's no lag or hesitation when an app finally eventually opens or when I click around through the Settings app (when it finally opens). It doesn't seem to only be with graphic intensive apps either, as I tried a simple text/memo app and when that one eventually opens, the desktop background is black and the app window is black with only a menu near the top.
My attempts to fix it
So far, I've tried running an e2fsck -f data.img command to repair the data.img file. It didn't appear to report any issues and the problem did not go away. I've rebooted the thing about a billion times, no luck! Getting into the Settings app is hit or miss and I haven't really had any idea of what setting might help, and installing third party apps appears to not be an option either.
The only other option I could think of would be to backup my data.img and reinstall the OS, and then restore the data.img file, but this seems like it will restore the problem with it. Also, I haven't experienced any problems in Windows, so I don't think there is any issue with the drive. Sorry for such a long thread, just wanted to be detailed!
Any ideas are much appreciated!
My PC: Lenovo Ideapad y510p
Windows OS: Windows 10 64-Bit
Remix OS for PC: 3.0.207 dual booted with the above Windows 10 installation
Hard Drive: 500GB SSD drive
RAM: 16GB
I don't have any of those issues. My issues are a bit different...
I can't seem to find a copy of RemixOS 3.xx that actually has "true" root access. I know there is a method you can use to remount the volume as r/w, but since I am running it from a flash drive, I apparently cannot access any of the system files in Windows with hidden files and folders visible. And, after first boot the USB drive running the OS will somehow end up with a corrupted "REMIXOSDATA" partition.
Good luck on your quest.

Thank you for the response! In reading the issue you're having, I'm wondering Remix OS for PC, in its current state, is more susceptible to corruption issues in under some circumstances rather than others. When I first installed it, I installed the 64-bit version and I kept having issues where I'd boot it up and it suddenly would not start. I found somewhere on a forum where someone recommended to just use the 32-bit version and the issue went away for a long time, until I had the issue described in my original post. I'm wondering if it just isn't stable enough yet to be run from a flash drive, as it seems to me like it has issues with being easily corrupted.
This brings me to my next comment, I was able to fix my issue! I tried a couple things that didn't work, reinstalling Remix and then choosing YES to erase the entire virtual drive, then copying a backup of my original data.img back into the directory so I don't have to reinstall everything. This didn't fix the issue, so instead I downloaded the 64-bit version and installed it, but this time I chose NO on the prompt to erase my data.
Upon booting into Remix, it gave the standard Android message about optimizing apps and is now running good. I wish I did this workflow with the 32-bit version, as I'm wondering if it would have worked. I suspect I'll experience the same issues I originally experienced with the 64-bit version.
Anyway, I hope this may shed any light on how you can try to resolve your issue. Good luck!
