Textra settings backup on rooted phones? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This question has been asked many times with no answer.
Textra does not have an option to save your settings.
Where are these settings saved?
Can they be copy-pasted on rooted phones, ?

It's been awhile
Really not sure I want to go through the hassle of starting all over again from scratch, again, with this app.

No need, after starting this thread in 2016, the only app I found on Google Play that can actually remember settings of individual contacts after you delete the conversation with them:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.handcent.app.nextsms
Handcent Next SMS(Free Messenger for texting, MMS)
In other words, with other apps, they remember individual settings for a contact as long as there is at least one message on the phone with that contact, but if you delete that last message, only Handcent Next SMS remembers custom settings for it.
As for saving other settings, this is what I found. Use Helium on Rooted phones:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup
Start Helium and allow it root access.
Select app to backup > BACKUP > Internal Storage *DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING IF PROMPTED*
Backup Complete > OK
Backup is located in the internal storage folder named carbon.
Copy this folder to another device to perform RESTORE.
• Sometimes Helium may only be installed through a Helium Backup Chrome Extension for DESKTOP [not mobile] Chrome:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/helium-backup/gpglbgbpeobllokpmeagpoagjbfknanl?hl=en-US
In case of problems, install UniversalAdbDriverSetup.msi from https://adb.clockworkmod.com/
Enable USB Debugging: Settings > About phone > press on Build Number a total of 7 times to turn on Developer options
Developer options > Android debugging: ON > OK
Reboot both PC and phone.
Start Helium and grant it Root access > Checking Superuser enters a loop > During the loop,
Go to Google Chrome extension and start it > now connect phone to PC > Allow debugging when prompted on the phone. No need to change "Use USB to" - even if left on "Charge this device" the phone should ask to Allow debugging. No need to change "Use USB" to "Transfer files"
CANCEL > OK > either Backup or Restore
When done, Disable USB Debugging.

How to solve error updating Office Suite (X10 mini firmware 2.1.1.A.0.6)

It's actually based on my own problem that i get when updating office suite. My x10 mini isn't rooted yet before this happen but i already updated my phone firmware to the latest version 2.1.1.A.0.6 .
When first open, Office suite asked me "to continue, you must update to newer version. A newer version is available.", so i choose "Yes/Update", downloading process begin. After a minute or more,i checked again got this message "Error!! Updating failed. Try again?". I choose try again option but still failed. Restarting phone still won't do.
The problem is Office Suite is the pre-installed apps from it's manufacturer. So how can we fix this, if we can't even remove this app?
I got this solution that is in my opinion is simple.
First you've got to do is rooting your phone. If it hasn't rooted, you may want to do it now by going here. After you get SuperOneClick and unzip the .zip file, you can start :
1. Don't connect your phone to pc yet.
2. Run the SuperOneClick.exe that you download, click "ROOT" and it'll start checking until it says "Waiting for device...".
3. Now on your phone, go to -> Settings -> Applications ->Development -> tick the "USB Debungging Mode". Click OK.
4. Then connect your phone to PC and choose "Connect Your Phone" option in phone screen.
5. Notice the SuperOneClick app will start checking again.. Let it do it's job.
6. In my case, i failed to ROOT at the first try but don't worry.
7. There'll be a pop-up window asking if your phone are using firmware 2.1 or higher (You may need to check your phone firmware first, go to Settings -> About Phone -> Build Number). Choose "Yes" if you know.
8. The procces will continue again, now wait till it succes. It'll ask you to send message ....to you phone, choose "OK".
9. Now, you are succes on rooting your phone.
10. After that, untick the "USB Debugging Mode".
The second step is
1. getting "Titanium Backup Pro", i would suggest. It doesn't matter which version you use.
2. Copy the file to your phone, go to -> Application -> find the file .apk file and run the installation. After finished, you can choose "Open".
3. It'll ask if you have SuperUserRights, click "Yes".
4. It'll ask again to go into "USB Debugging Mode". You can now tick again this option.
5. After that go to 'Backup/Restore" tab, there'll be a list of pre-installed apps. Scroll down till you find "Office Suite x.x.xx" and below it "Office Suite Update Service x.x.xx". (x.x.xx was the version of Office Suite)
6. Click & choose "Backup!" the two of it. You don't want something worse happen.
7. Now, you can choose "Wipe data" for that two apps.
8. You can get out and check yourself the previous "Office Suite" that is asking updates.
If you find this error problem again when updating "Office Suite", just go to "Titanium Back" and wipe data again..
Done!!!
You can update your office suite again, just make sure you have a stable internet connection or else it'll get an error again. After 4times trying, finally i succeed in updating office suite.
please delete the link to titanium back up pro
it is a paid app you can't post paid apps here for free
it is against the rules
Hi,
Got this via http ://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/18412

Re: Pre-installed 'Office Suite' will not open / update.
Check if you can clear data fro Office Suite and then try again.
Menu> Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> Click on the first hardware button (the one with four squares)> Filter> All> Office Suite> Clear data.
Click to collapse
SE X10mini: in 'Manage Applications', left button, Filter, All Applications > Office Suite Update > Clear data.

first of all you have to go in contants ,secondly press the menu botton and select import/export and select export to sim card.To remove the account gmail ;
Let's start off by saying that the address book being connected directly to the email account main before proceeding must be exported in full on sd,
Here's how:
1) go to the Contacts tab
2) press the menu key
3) Plug on 'import/export'
4) plug on 'export on SD card'
At this point, the address book and save,Now at this point, if your device is already rooted and you have almost finished otherwise you root your terminal ..
Open root explorer and when super user will ask you to grant root privileges yes
Please go to the 'Data' folder and from there to 'System'

I HAVE TRIED ALL THE METHODS ABOVE WITH NO LUCK
#%%%%what i did to fix this was to import all contacts from sim to phone memory, close the whatsapp or minimise the open again for it to load the contacts automatically. this is how the "setting up whatsapp. please wait windows phone" was finally fixed $%$%$
I confirm the fix.
Do the usual steps, and when it's stuck on the screen, switch to the contact screen, add a new contact with a phone number, and then go back to the whatsapp app.
None of the origin fixes worked for me.

My 7.1 thinks it's a 7 Plus, and so won't update

I've got a Nokia 7.1, which in System-About Phone says it is a 7.1, TA-1096. But when I sideload a stock ROM (to move from Oreo to Pie) it says 'E: package is for product CTL_Sprout but expected B2N', and refuses to install it. My understanding is CTL-Sprout is the 7.1, and B2N is the 7 Plus.
It also:
- fails to find that any OTA updates are available despite being on 8.1;
- won't take a B2N ROM by sideload (says 'E:failed to verify whole file signature', 'E:signature verification failed' and 'E:error 21'); and
- interacts fine with ADB when booted or in recovery, but isn't recognised by the fastboot devices command when in 'download mode'., so I haven't been able to flash TWRP.
It all seems strange to me, but I'm not very experienced. I originally put the phone aside when I found there was not going to be a bootloader unlock, and am keen to now get it to Q and try to root it. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Hi oujdamp. It doesn't look promising I'm sorry … I started a similar thread on the Nokia forums and got some useful (but disappointing) information. The link is here: https://community.phones.nokia.com/discussion/59020/my-7-1-thinks-its-a-7-plus-and-so-wont-update

WhatsApp Restore Stuck at 24% - Partially Working Workaround (June 2023)

Hey Guys,
Today suddenly my WhatsApp gave a message error, followed by a full deletion of the entire chat history. 10 Years of work (I run my business via WhatsApp).
I had my Google Drive backup, but everytime it hit 24% it got stuck and failed to restore the messages. None of the proposed solutions I could find online fixed it for me, nor did the poor WhatsApp support which is practically a machine prompting same non-working solutions.
After reading many different solutions and threads about it, I started to feel and think that possibly the cause of it is some bug or failure to retrive media files, and looks like I was right - I just made a breakthrough that at least allowed me to restore all the chats, without the media - but hell, at this stage I'll take what I get. And that's 10 years of it - I couldn't afford losing it.
So for all of you who are facing the same problem and are willing to waive media, those are roughly the steps I took which solved it for me (lots of other things in the way that I doubt helped):
I highly advice before you do it, maybe to avoid many of the steps I did and especially before uninstalling and reinstalling WhatsApp as the WA Support advices you to do, to go to Internal Storage > Android > Media > com.whatsapp > WhatsApp > Databases and copy the msgstore.db file. Also, try to create a local backup by disabling Google Backup and perhaps getting another updated version of the chats. I didn't do it, and I think it costed me a lot of extra steps to try to get the local backup file back, as well as some missing recent chats.
1. Uninstalled WhatsApp, rebooted the phone.
2. Authenticated and started normal backup restore from Google Drive process.
3. Connected the phone to my computer, so I can see real time via Windows Explorer which files are downloaded as a part of the backup (Storage > Android > Media > com.whatsapp > WhatsApp).
4. When download finished and the restoring process started, I immediately copied the Databases and Backup folders as they were brought from the Google backup, leaving the Media one out which I figured is the one causing the issues. Note it's important to do it as soon as download finishes and files are complete, as WhatsApp deletes it if backup fails.
5. When hitting the 24% stuck mark, I 'force stopped' WhatsApp, and uninstalled the app again, then restarted my phone.
6. I reinstalled WhatsApp, and didn't open it.
7. I went on to Create the folder Storage > Android > Media > com.whatsapp > WhatsApp > Databases, and pasted my msgstore.db file in it.
8. I opened WhatsApp, authenticated and started normal backup restore from Google Drive - and it worked. All my chat history is back.
9. I changed my Google Account for WhatsApp backup, and created a fresh backup just in case.
Now I'll decide if makes sense to also attempt recovering the media but at this moment I'm way too tired to think about it anymore.
Hope this helps you!
