I installed several applications (Viber, Skype etc.) and their icons (or these applications) were placed on "second" screen. I tried several ways and was unable to move any icon / application to my home screen. The phone displays "can't move" and the icon is automatically returned to "second" screen. It seems the home screen layout is somehow locked but I there is not any "home screen" menu in settings to unlock it. My MIUI version is MIUI Global 8.1 Stable 8.1.4.0 (MHOMIDI), Android is 6.0.1 MMB29M. Can somebody please advise whether it is, in general, possible to move icons / applications to the home screen and, if so, how to do that.
I didn't try but I think you should made different folder and place them in the folder ?

Thanks onukomer. While trying various options I got a message "no more room on this home screen". So, I removed two default applications from the home screen and was then able to move two my applications from the second to the home screen. However I was able to move only such applications which have "add shortcuts to home screen" in their settings, for instance WhatsApp. But Viber does not have "add shortcuts to home screen" YES / NO in its permissions menu. Why Viber and several other of my applications do not allow switch that "shortcuts to home screen" permission ON / OFF? They even do not have that in their settings... Why? Any ideas?
Friend, i think that's apps not have any other shortcut like whatsapps "whatsapp video shortcut" all is mine thinking. Did you try to use a different launcher? Or do you use any weather or clock widget? That's occupies too much area of the home screen
Yes, you are absolutely right - my problem was that there was no enough space on my home screen, most probably due to the clock. Once I started to free up the space by removing unnecessary icons I was able to move icons from my second to the home screen without any problems. Thank you very much for your assistance

I went to Settings/Manage Applications/Remove Programs and removed several listed items, which I thought just related to unused colour schemes, in order to free up some storage memory. However, I now find that two unintended changes have resulted.
1. The main one is that I seem to have lost the enlarged scroll button that previously appeared when I tapped the right-hand side of long windows. All I have now is the default grey slider bar.
2. The other, less important, is that after the screen display times out and I press a button to restore the display with the 'slide padlock', the background has changed from the original Sense colours to a plain 'gradient blue' background. This is not inconveniencing me at all, but it would be nice to restore the original background.
TIA.
i think both problems, especially the FIRST one, can be fixed by simply going to Windows Mobile Settings->Home and choosing a different theme...click OK...and then repeat the same steps and NOW choose the stock HTC theme (don't know what its called! sorry!).
after all of the above, set a wallpaper from Windows Mobile Settings->Home, check the box at the bottom that says "Use this picture as the background" and select a file. after this step, set a home screen and lock screen wallpaper from Sense. if you use CHT (cookie's home tab), you will get even more options and control over your wallpaper.

Many thanks for your reply. Your advice got me on the right track to resolve both problems.
I went to Settings->Menu->All Settings->Today and changed the theme, then repeated the sequence and changed it back to 'HTC Black'. I then chose the 'Items' tab and changed the checkbox from 'HTC Sense' to 'Windows Default' (ignoring a warning not to move away from Sense). Then I repeated the sequence and changed the 'Items' checkbox back to 'HTC Sense'. This seems to have restored both the Sense wallpaper and the enlarged scroll button.
Thanks again.
The x10 mini pro has a "two-level" home screen:
the "top" hold the clock, and widgets.
the "bottom" holds the application icons.
Since there are many applications installed, the home screen extends beyond the screen width, which results in "windows", and so it is necessary to scroll left and right to see all the different "windows" and the icons they contain. When pressing the "home" button, the phone will bring up the last viewed "window" of the home screen.
Is there a way to make the "home" button always show the first (left most) "window" of the bottom home screen, namely, the left most window of the icons?.
TIA,
Mike.
In a way, yes...and in a way, no.
The screen(s) with all your apps in is known as the "app drawer". The stock launcher for the X10 Mini Pro will always do what you say, it will always go to the last viewed page of the drawer when you open it.
In theory, you could dig deep into the code of the SemcHome app and make it do what you want. I've no idea what you'd need to do, but it's theoretically possible.
The easiest way is probably just to install a different launcher. Have a look on the Market. I'm using Go Launcher Ex which does the same thing but it does let me put more app icons on one screen (I've got 16 instead of the stock launcher's 9) and you can group apps into individual folders. Or you can just hide the ones you don't need.
So this won't do exactly what you asked for, but it might give you a decent alternative.
Thanks.
Is it possible to place applications and shortcuts icons on the "top" home screen, say in the same screen as the clock?.
Thanks,
Mike
Yes, bascially. Although, again, you'll still need a different launcher for this.
A lot of phones will let you do this from stock but, because ours has a smaller screen, we can only put stuff into the four corners. Download a new launcher and you can cover your screen with app's and shortcuts as much as you want!
You can add shortcuts to the homescreen by long holding an App in the app draw and dragging away from its location to the Homescreen
Thanks all for replying.
ryant: The long press and drag method isn't working on my x10MP with android 2.1 .
I can move the app icon around in the app drawer (left and right screens), but not "up" to where the clock and other widgets live. Have you tried this on an x10MP with a stock launcher?.
Also, I've now found the "multicon" app which allows to place multiple widgets on screen, which is a good enough solution for me.
On Widgetlocker, (or in any other launchers) I can make a shortcut button to make a post on Friendcaster. This lets me jump right into making a Facebook status without having to go into a program, and then hitting the update button. I had these shortcut links both on my home screen and on my lockscreen (so I wouldn't even have to unlock the phone... just just get an immediate pop up to type an update)
I like the ripple effect of the touchwiz lock screen, and I have some shortcuts set up there... but it seems that you can only give links to full apps, and not the 'shortcuts' that the launchers or other lockscreens allow. There is normally one called 'Post' ...but on the touchwiz one if just gives full app names. Anyone know a way around this? Thanks.
The lock screen is only coded to allow applications, rather than specific functions of applications.
So no.
Hi all newbie here and did a few searches and tried to look for help but could not find right info, also I hope I am in the right spot to post so please feel free to tell me if I am not in the right place. Currently running ICS 4.0.4 up-to-date at time of writing on Vodafone Australia but I don't think the country of service provider is the problem. I have a problem with my 'Home Screen Dock' NOT THE 'Lock Screen Dock' I can change icons on the lock screens no problems, All the help, forums and videos on changing the 'Home Screen Dock' Icons say to simply drag, drop[ and replace. All i wanted to do is change the stock "Internet" Icon with Chrome. Dragged the internet icon of and went to drag the Chrome one on but I can't as instead of the dock staying visible like on some videos it changes to the Delete Icon option. Cant find settings please help. Also I do not want to use a 3rd party launcher. I tried Apex and do like it but I use widgets and can't use widgets as my phone is not rooted. Please help arrrgghhh. Thanks in advance.
PS . I just have a blankspot where my internet Icon use to be.
Go into your app drawer.
Menu>Edit
Drag the Chrome icon down to the dock.

Thanks for your reply but I have tried that...the dock area only changes to for different Icon that you can drag your chosen icon onto in order to perform a function. these are from left to right "Create Folder" "New Page" "File Info" & "Delete"
Have you tried to hold on the Chrome Icon in the App drawer and put it on the home screen, THEN drag it to the empty space on the dock?

Yes I have and I get then get the same options expect it has text with each one i.e. *Icon with text"Create Folder" * *Icon with text "New Page"* etc
Has to be a step you are missing. I just tried it and it's working fine.

THanks for your help.... OK so here is what I do.
1) Unlock -> touch App Draw Icon. (Icon that says Apps with 16 little white squares)then I am on my last page/screen where I have a lonesome Chrome Icon.
2)Then I touch the Menu button (the glowing white button left of the physical home button).
3)Touch Edit (from the pop up menu *Edit with the pencil icon next to it)
4)The Page now has <::: Edit |Cancel|Save along the top of the screen under the notification bar. and no dock or anything at the bottom except for 6 . . . . . . white dots which represent my 6 screens.
5) Touch the Chrome Icon and drag downwards, but as soon as I press and hold the icon to drag at the bottom of the screen 4 icons appear that represent the function I described in my previous reply.
Please tell me I did something wrong. It should be so easy. Thanks btw.
1. Click on the App Drawer Icon
2. Press and hold on the Chrome Icon (that will move it to your desktop)
3. Now find it on your homescreen and press and hold it and drag it down to the empty space on the dock.
That's all there is to it.

Have you found the solution?
Hi,
I'm having the same problem, I was wondering if you've found the solution.
Also, since recently I'm having chrging problems with my S3 - sometimes it will charge, sometimes not - USB or Wall charger.
I tend to think these problems were introduced with latest software update.
I did factory reset, but problems still there.
Cheers.

TouchWiz used to allow me to follow the earlier procedure (it's how I docked "Maps" icon). This was back when I could also just drag and drop icons on the pages at will.
However there was an update from my telco (Telstra) and after that TouchWiz (as version 4.0.4) no longer allows changing of the bottom 'docked' row of icons. Even dragging and dropping icons generally is disabled it now requires use of the context menu to select "Edit page", first. The problem with that approach is that edit mode hides the dock row and replaces it with the icons "Create folder | Create page | App info | Delete". See attached screenshot.
So now I'm stuck with the useless blue-globe icon forever showing on my page, instead of being able to replace it with the very useful Chrome icon. Maybe Samsung did it accidentally (are they even the ones that develop TouchWiz?).
PS: If Micro$oft blocked the use of an alternate browsers, there would be loud screams of monopoly and anti-trust...
i to am also having the same problems, i am running stock Samsung Jelly Bean OS with a touchwiz home version 4.1.1. hope someone can find a way to fix this and to get our freedom back in it

Apparently this problem only effects Galaxy S4 GT-I9505
I found this solution:
you need to have root access (which is available on the xda forums)
you can unlock the dock icon edit function by going to /system/csc/other.xml and find
<CscFeature_Launcher_ReplaceHotseatAreaInEditMode> TRUE</CscFeature_Launcher_ReplaceHotseatAreaInEditMode>
Tried it using ex file explorer editor but nothing happened, restarted the device and the setting had reverted back to its original state, might have to do an adb push but the adb version I have installed is apparently outdated (keeps telling me the device is offline) so I'd need to update adb first
If anyone can give it a try to see if it actually works on rooted 4.2.2 with stock touchwiz, it would be really appreciated

Tons of thanks! :victory: Works great on GT-I9195T 4.2.2! Now, four left docked icons on homescreen could be moved.
Multi windows options not showing on PIE (S9+). After tapping the spacer icon the options are not showing (see screenshots). Any suggestions?
The multi windows options are explained here: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00079048/
Yes I notice it. U have to do it the other way... Not sure why they remove it
They changed it a bit..
When your in recent apps there is a symbol that appears at the top of the app. Pressing that will show a menu, one of the options is "open in split screen view".
This is how you now access the feature. I attached a screen shot of the settings app showing the respective symbol. Yellow arrow points to the symbol you want to press (symbol will vary pending on the app).

Thanks for this. I was slightly confused at first, it might be easier for people to understand to say that the app's icon appears at the top of the app in the recents screen, and tapping that icon gives you the options for the app, like split screen, pop-up view etc ?
I want to creat a 'icon pair on the home screen' that option is missing from the new menu. Thats my real question. Sorry about asking it in two steps
You can creat an icon pair in the edge screen but it will not appear on the home screen. Any ideas?

I tried it and I couldn't get it to work either, though I haven't used the feature before so I never created an app pair on my home screen. It maybe something they changed and now is (or with one UI maybe only ever was) available from the edge panel.
Update - Checking the users manual (for our phone with Android Pie) indicates the only way to natively create an app pair now is via the Edge Panel.

There is an apk called split-screen creator in the play store that allows you to create shortcuts that can be placed on the home screen.
