I am running stock 4.4.4 KTU84P on a Nexus7 with many system apps stripped out.
I have included apks for the AOSP browser from a ROM intended for my device.
The problem I've noticed is under the menu, "Find in Page" Item was titled "Password".
So I replaced this Apk with one from a recent CM Nightly for my device and it reads "ISO A5".
My question is, why would just this string be impacted? Any ideas on where the bug stems from?
Thanks for your ideas!

"Unfortunately, Chromium application was stopped." Android 5.1
Browsing works great, thanks a lot.
I have a problem though syncing bookmarks. Does it work for you guys? I can connect to an account but always get a red error message telling me there are currently sync problems. Tried that on my note3 and with other accounts as well but without success.

Sync API is not supported on third party Chromium distributions. This is Googles decision to block access.

Working, thanks a lot.
Awesome how fast this browser is. Nice Work! :good:
This is awesome, it works great on my Acer a500 running 4.4.4 omnirom.
I just switched to chomium after Firefox, Opera Mini and the build-in browser gave me problems under 6.0.1 on my p4wife 7510 tab.
Works like a charm and it's fast! Thanks a lot!
How to change the Download location ? on P4 with 'Internal Storage' he has a problem with NO SDCARD ...
Did you grant storage access for chromium?
Thank you very much for your work! Continue in the same vein on ASUS TF101 (tegra2) android 4.4.4 everything works great.
Chromium browser does not have a native google translator.
What to do?
Thanks for your work. It's the best browser for Tegra2 devices. Is it possible to create an Android 4.0.4 APK as I went back to the stock ICS firmware? Thanks!
I've compiled a Bromite version of Chromium. See their website for the list of features.

This one is working nicely on a Galaxy Tab 10.1 wifi updated with the 7.1.2 AOSP Nougat. I updated from linux laptop with heimdal to install twrp, then from twrp to install custom ROM. I'll be trying your 8.0 Oreo someday.
I couldn't install the previous builds, I tried a few one up to build 65, verified the md5, etc... Got error "Can't open file" when launching the apk from the downloads app... Maybe I did something wrong, as I'm new to alternative android ROMs.
Is there an index wich lists those specific tegra2 apps somewhere ? I found a few with search, but no centralized list.
So thanks a lot, keep up the good work !
Seems to work very nice! Thank you.
Is there any chance we can use it as WebView too? I would like to use a Fullscreen Browser App on my Tab for my Homeautomation System.
The recent versions of Chromium don't work. There's some issue that doesn't render the page. So that will be end of these browser releases.
@lanwin: there isn't a way to use a custom webview. The only browsers that can work as webview are the ones that Google releases on Play store but those aren't compatible with non-NEON devices.
I've found a way to make it work so this is alive again.
There are two patches of the bromite build which aren't compiling so they aren't included:
Code:
BRM045_Remove-help-menu-item.patch
BRM050_Canvas-fingerprinting-mitigations-for-image-data-and-webGL.patch
Hi,
I am developing a hybrid app and would like some of the features of the newer version of webview. I check on the phone (Settings/Apps/All -> Android System WebView) and the stock version is version 39. I also note that the 'FORCE STOP' and 'DISABLE' buttons are inactive.
I installed the new version manually from the Google Play Store, and that is version 58.
If I list the packages using adb, I see that the old webview is com.android.webview while the newer one is com.google.android.webview.
So, now I have both versions installed, but I see from WebSettings.getUserAgentString() that my app is still using version 39.
Is there a way I can get my app to use the new webview?
Regards,
Max.
BTW, phone is vkworld f1 and not rooted.
Hi when I open paytm app it lags for 20-30 seconds and then works smoothly.. And about AJIO SHOPPOJNG app it doesn't lag while opening but lags throughout usage. I have used these apps on stock ROM and it doesn't lag. I feel that webview is causing all such apps to lag.
I have felt this issue on:
Lineage OS
Syberia OS
I use opengapps.org' Pico GApps.
In fact almost all my phones running on custom ROMs have paytm lag I don't know why whereas on stock ROM they're great. Hope someone else is also facing this issue.
Ps: on my earlier devices running custom ROMs oreo too I was facing this issue.
I guess it happens because custom ROMs use Android System Webview instead of Chrome Webview. Install Chrome which will change the system webview to Chrome automatically. And see if you still notice the issue. If the problem still persists, then it's not due to webview implementation.
Hi, so the ask is simple but not sure if it's possible. i want to block Instagram from having webview access.
WebView is how Facebook gets dirt on you. i don't want to disable webview across the board. Essentially I want to kill Instagram's ability to track me.
Read about bromite webview and see if it helps you.

Best way to update webview on custom ROM

Probably you can ADB install it but as a normal app....
