I have used MyPhoneExplorer with USB cable and VMLite VNC Server from local WLAN to unattended remote control of Android devices, but these don't work anymore with Android Nougat at least on my devices. What alternatives are available, i don't mind paying if cost is reasonable? Most Play Store VNC servers doesn't work at all. Local WLAN control preferred.

Hey there,
I'm looking for an actual Windows Remote Desktop app to connect directly to my job's server. I know one exists on iPad, but I haven't found the Android equivalent. I need something that supports all the options just like in the Windows Remote Desktop Connection's Advanced settings such as:
RD Gateway server settings
User Name
Server name
Domain/computer
What I am NOT looking for are apps that must have software (like a VNC server) installed on the host computer, e.g., Splashtop Remote. It must use standard Windows RDP.
If you have any experience with such apps, please list them!
Thanks a lot.
I use Remote RDP by Yongtao Wang (in the Market). There is a lite version (Remote RDP Lite) that you can try that has most of the features (minus audio, I believe). It is very fast and is a true RDP client that uses Microsoft's Remote Desktop Protocol. It also works very well on my tablet.
I am currently extending my media center setup. Right now it is Windows-based, and I have used a lot of app/server combinations to control Media Player/Media Center, which I am pretty happy with.
Now my problem is that I have bought an iPod dock that just connects the iPod via USB to my HTPC, which makes it possible to directly and 100 % digitally play music from the iPod. I have been looking for an app/server combination to remotely control the iPod playback from my Android device, but haven't found anything. There are a lot of apps to remote control iTunes, but are there anyone which can also control an iPod connected via USB?
Using Windows 7 - can change to Linux if that will do it, 32/64 bit doesn't matter. HTC Desire Z using Android 2.3 or 4.0 doesn't matter what is required - I just want to find a way of doing this.
(If the app/server combination also will control Media Player/Media Center, it is a plus, but not a requirement as I already have another app for that.)
A possibility would be to just use your ipod as a hard drive:
support.apple.com/kb/HT1478
Now you can use any client server config between your android device and a musicplayer on your pc.

I took a look at the article and tried it, but if I am right, it will not allow the music to be played back on the iPod - furthermore, it would not allow me to play back music for instance from a friend's iPod.
That is also one of the reasons why I want "real" iPod remote control - it is possible through iTunes, I just want to find a remote control app that also controls the iPod rather than only the iTunes library.
hmm, you mean the ipod is supposed to use its own mediaplayer, which audio-output do you want to use, the computers or the ipod's?
If you use the computer output I do not see why you want to use the local mediaplayer on the ipod (and did not know this was possible), if you are able to access the ipod as a mass storage you can play all music on your ipod or your friends ipod without a problem?
If you want to use the audiosystem from the ipod I see the problem.
I'm moving soon and I'm used to having an HTPC hooked up to my 60" TV but I've decided to go a different route this time around.
I'm planning on setting up a dedicated Android based box next to my TV to run Moonlight Game Streaming (similar to nvidia Game Stream) to mirror my desktop PC in my bedroom to take advantage of all of my HTPC functions as well as stream my gaming PC to my 60" TV.
I was thinking about picking up a Steam Link for $50 or nvidia shield for $200, but figured I should look at different options for a simple but fast Android based box that can be rooted and use Moonlight to essentially mirror my desktop for the most feature complete experience. I know you can use workarounds to get Steam Link to the windows desktop, but I rather not deal with clunky workarounds (adding notepad as a nonsteam game, etc.) if there is a better option out there. I also don't need the nvidia shield controller and the additional features the nvidia shield provides if I'm going to be using gamestream/moonlight to do everything off my mirrored desktop PC anyway.
This box needs to have the following features:
Ethernet port for solid connection
At least 1 USB port for a USB expansion dongle or multiple USB ports for wireless mouse/keyboard/headphone capability
Fast enough to decode Moonlight at 1080p/60fps without a hitch
HDMI connectivity for TV at 1080p/60fps (4K/60fps is not important at this point)
Rootable (Moonlight needs to run on root to have fluid mouse control)
Storage on this device does not need to be much, its essentially a mirror for my gaming PC.
What do you guys suggest?
I recently got the Mi Box (MDZ-16-AB) to replace my Charter Spectrum DVR because I have IPTV service now.. The slingbox I have that reencodes to a lower bit rate (I receive via mobile hotspot in taxi cab with slingplayer on amazon fire stick) isn't able to control the box fully. The custom remote bin file is very limited on control options (power, menu and directional/enter buttons work) but the back button that is greyed out is a button that gets used way too often...
I have a VPN to my house on my mobile internet, but yet the limited 'android tv remote' app won't realize I'm on a VPN and insists on me using wifi for it to access.. Is there a third party app for android TV that will let me input the IP or IP/Port info in to control it?
I have a 13TB NAS at home as well with pretty much the entire DVD and music collection backed up to it, with kodi installed and running on a second input on my slingbox, for which I can control over the VPN perfectly fine using yatze.. So I know controlling it should be possible.
If I can't control via this method then the only other option is doing fireTV and controlling via the fire app on my phone (as I can sign in and control any fire device on the account) regardless of being on wifi or VPN.
Vysor, paid version.
Hi,
I have a Galaxy S7 which comes with the "Smart View" app in Android 8.0, which makes it easy to screen cast the phone to another Miracast device (e.g. TV or PC). Is there any way to do the reverse, i.e. using the phone as a Miracast host to display the screen of, say, another phone or PC? In particular, I want to use the Wireless Display feature in Windows 10 to have the phone as an external PC display. Windows can do both (cast to a device and host/display a cast from a device) but Smart View can only cast, not host. I don't want to use a media streaming app over the local network or god forbid a remote desktop solution routing everything through the internet. I want to use specifically Miracast because it's fast, convenient, built-in to many devices and most importantly uses direct peer-to-peer WiFi instead of going through the rest of the network, thus it's perfect for short-distance casting, which is exactly my use case. Unfortunately, I can't find any app that allows the phone to receive Miracast streams. Can anyone help?
