I thought it was time I sought some advice. I have been trying for several days to flash an upgraded ROM onto my wife's i545 model. The phone was bought by mailorder and we live in Australia. I have previously rooted my own phone; the biggest reason being to remove the obnoxious - check your battery cover - popup.
I have been able to root the phone with Kingroot.
So I 've been trying to flash an upgrade from Odin, but I can't find an appropriate tar or tar.md5 file. Scores of zips are available, but tar.md5s are nowhere to be found. I tried making my own tar.md5 from a youtube video. Basically, this involved using 7-zip to change a zip (I used cm12.1 and 13.1 direct from their website) into a tar file, and then using Cygwin to change it into an md5. When I load these home-created tar.md5s into Odin and press Start, Odin crashes.
I've also attempted to flash a recovery from the device itself, with twrp, clockworkmod and others. The flashing is "successful", but when I try to reboot to recovery, the device stops and says the bootup has failed.
So what suggestions do the experts have? Are the tar.md5s I created valid? Or are their valid tar.md5s available on the web? Is there something about this phone which prevents the bootup into recovery? The original complaint was the wi-fi connection. I also tried flashing a new kernel SCH-I545_MD2_423399_Kernel.tar.md5 and SCH-I545_MD2_562219_Kernel.tar.md5, philz_touch_6.48.4-hlte.tar.md5, TWRP-2.5.0.0-devjfltevzw.tar.md5, and TWRP-2.6.3.1-devjfltevzw.tar, all of which fail.
I've also tried Flash-Fire which insists the phone isn't rooted, although root-checker says it is, and Flashify which has the same problem of appearing to work but then booting up to error.

The Verizon S4 had a locked bootloader. A custom recovery is not possible with the latest firmware. You can root using the methods in the General section. After you have root you can use Flashfire to flash zips. Stock firmware can be found at www.sammobile.com in case you screw up or get a bootloop. I recommend getting rid of KingRoot su for SuperSU. There is a YouTube video on doing it.

Hello there.
A couple of months back my friend was having trouble with her S3 and she had to reset e every couple of days. So I instructed her to install Cyanogenmod via the official installer. She did and it worked.
A few days back she told he it won't update and I guessed that it won't for the lack of CWM so I told her to get Rashr from the Play Store and flash a custom recovery, which she did successfully. Even though the phone wouldn't update anyway.
So last night she told me that her phone stopped booting up completely. When booting to recovery and trying to flash a zip through CWM doesn't work because it keeps telling her "E: no sd card" or something like that. Now she doesn't have an SD card, but my understanding is that this refers to the internal storage too. So why can't the recovery read it?
Furthermore I tried to get her to flash another recover via Odin, but Odin fails to flash

Thanks for your response.
To be honest I'm not sure if it's on or not since the device isn't booting up anymore.
How can I flash the stock Rom from recovery when it can't even see the storage?

You can't you need odin to flash any stock rom not a recovery.
Can you still get into download mode? If so try to flash a full stock rom from Sammobile with odin if that fails try the emergency recovery here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30087735&postcount=6 <<
Ok, so I don't want to continue with this after I get some specified things in order to pursue the root methods.
My phone is Allview V2 viper x+ 3 gb ram bla bla (http://allview.ro/produse/telefoane/viper/v2-viper-x-plus-gold.html)
I'm backing up now few things and after that will backup the system files like recovery, imgs and more so, just for to be sure I have some back up in order to get it back to life if something gone's wrong.
I have 2 problems to solve with this phone.
1. After I changed my sd card to be the default internat storage for apps, everytime I try to install some app from market it's says something about hardwer is not compatible or something like this, but If i'll download the apk from some site (same apk) is working, well this is the first problem and is unsolved.
2.I want to have the phone rooted, I saw many posts with this method of supersu beta root and I have to flash some recovery img (I'm always trying and I see if is working, but I have a lot to save from my phone, so I'll have to wait to finish the full backup, reset the phone, get the sd card off and so on).
I tried to search a good version of TWRP for my phone, but I don't find any good compatbile.
My question for you is :
1.Did anybody had a successful root with this phone?
2.Which method is better to root an marshmallow? (6.0)
3.There is some recovery of twrp compatbile with this phone?
4.Does the ota update will work after the root process? (because I'm thinking that they could have some update to 6.0.1, but Idk when).
##Update##
I came back to previous version of 5.1 and root it and then I'll try the method from here with flashfire.

##Update-2##
Failed every method I tried.
- Failed installing custom recovery carliv, cwm, twrp (all failing, is not booting after flashing custom recovery, the only one who works is that carliv touch but if I install it, will not boot anymore)
- Failed kingroot (suppose to have some 6 method of rooting one click root)
- Failed flashing supersu, not working without a custom recovery .
- Tried to search for some custom rom to install with carliv, but I didn't find any good, all had errors that I didn't find to solve. and is crazy that I can't root the phone.
Note : What method remains?
If someone know..
##Update-3##
After many many unsucessful custom recoverys, successful bootloader unlock and many resets, didn't get any luck.
I'll remain on 5.1 till I have a clearly method of rooting the marshmallow without having to change the custom recovery, or maybe till I find a good custom recovery that works with anything I need.
Or till they update the android 6.0 to 6.0.1 (I saw that they have some root access option).
Maybe someday someone will text here with some method or similar, so I'll look here everyday till I find a way ;3
Ps. : Even if is a gionee s plus, the methods I saw for it, didn't worked aswell.
Cya.

Tried this too and voilla .. ..
Another error ^^

##Final Update (Can close this)##
After a lot of of of of searching and mental stress and a lot of digging, I finally find a very one and good solution to get supersu flashed by a custom recovery.
For those who have problems like me and have same phone (Gionee Splus), follow this guide : https://atozhacks.blogspot.ro/2016/08/gionee-splus-marshmallow-philz-touch.html
I have an S4 on MDK had TWRP 2.6.? on it, has been working great many ROMS.
I installed the official TWRP App, backed up my recovery to recovery.img and installed the latest TWRP 3.1.1 I think.
Upon reboot I now get the dreaded error mentioned above and that many others have gotten. I can boot into download mode but not into recovery. I've gone through the threads from others with this issue, but since I'm on MDK wanted to confirm the next likely step. (I think this guy has same issue as me https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/help/help-unauthorized-software-message-t3316858)
Do I likely just need to find MDK stock firmware and apply via ODIN and go from there? Or since I am on MDK does it not matter if I restore stock MDK.
I don't really care if I restore MDK or not but I"m having trouble finding the original stock MDK sammobile doesn't have it for example. I'm wondering if I can just use say:

If you can find a tar of TWRP you could probably just Odin that and it should fix everything. Don't use the TWRP app, it's junk and pretty much useless. It just causes problems. Use TWRPs website https://TWRP.me

thanks for the reply i gave that a whirl but it gives me a FAIL in odin, I tried a few different twrp tars and odin versions.

It could, my device was definitely not on MDK when I had it.
Can you get your phone to start up normally again? If so, gomangoman may be able to help you out. I got an MDK unicorn and had the same issue. If you re-flash TWRP through Flashify it fixes the problem. At least it did for me! See post 593 on this page:

Good Luck!
I have been trying to update my phone but everytime I try the OTA it says installation failed. I ignored it for a few months now bc I didn't want to lose root after updating. How can I install the OTA? I am on MetroPCS (BE88CF)
I tried disabling AdAway thought it may be blocking the servers but that didn't work.

Pulled this from the OnePlus website
"Ok, looks like the download has failed/corrupted. Open the File Manager app > go to settings in the FM app and enable "Show Hidden Files" > then go to the device storage and look for a folder called ".OTA" - delete it and its contents. Then reboot your phone and try again."
Did you ever figure this out? I have the same problem. Not even unrooting fixes it. There is no .OTA folder on my phone either.

Flash stock boot.img for your model and firmware. Probably gonna need the original recovery image too if you've got anything besides stock.
Relock bootloader using fastboot.
As long as there's nothing that can be checked back as invalid, you should be able to update your phone proper.

I tried reflashing stock recovery and boot images, but it didn't work. Relocking the bootloader shouldn't be necessary, but if it is I'll just go without updating. I don't feel like having to wipe out my phone to unlock the bootloader again every time there is an update.

Sadly it's a boatload of effort to get the update. Either you go back to 100% stock, or live with it.
I said screw it and just moved everything to my memory card before using the msm reset app

I managed to get the last update installed by reinstalling 11.0.2 through the Oxygen Updater, then 11.0.3 installed fine. I was going to try to repeat this method with 11.0.3 to get to 11.0.4, but Oxygen Updater no longer allows me to download 11.0.3. I tried to sideload it and do a local update, but the phone won't find it. I can't even install it through fastboot commands because the OTA is incremental and the payload dumper won't work on it.
I was able to update by doing what you said and relocking the bootloader after reflashing stock and boot images. Relocking bricked the phone so I had to use the unbrick tool. Definitely a pain to have to do this every time, Then I ran into problems restoring my TWRP backup that I had to figure out lol. I'll probably just update every two or three updates from now on. Plus all this reflashing opens up more opportunities for RCS features to stop working on Google Messages because they are so finicky. Then my texts act up for 3-10 days until RCS starts working again. Luckily they reconnected right away this time.
Thanks for the help.
Hello, colleagues,
I've bricked Samsung S9+ (SM-G965F). The story is the following:
1. I rooted it with LineageOS 19.1, but after some time of use decided to back it to original firmware
2. Using https://github.com/samloader/samloader I downloaded original firmware for my country (SEK, G965FXXUHFVG5)
3. And using this instruction - https://techbeasts.com/how-to-unroot-samsung-galaxy-s9-and-s9-plus/ - tried to restore original firmware
4. After this phone did not reboot, stucked with white "Samsung" word on the black screen
The error, I guess, was on step (3) above - phone probably was not official and when (too late!) I looked at https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s9-plus/firmware/ I got that, probably, I was need the most widely used European firmware G965FXXUHFVG4 instead of ...FVG5 and, having phone responsive, tried to repeat step (3).
At the end of this procedure, Odin said "RQT_CLOSED !!" and soon reported failed update, while phone stuck in "Downloading... Do not turn off target..." state in 1-2 pixels before the end of progress bar. Now, if I try to boot it, it shows exclamation sign and a message "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software" (of course, Smart Switch do not help - it says something about "plugin lost connection" or something like).
Since I tried to write wrong firmware, I then decided, using the following procedure - https://technastic.com/samsung-pit-file-download/ - to repartition it using PTI file according to instructions. It did not help - situation the same, Odin reports "RQT_CLOSED" and phone stucks in 1-2 pixels before the end of progress bar.
Now is the question - whether it's possible to revive the phone? Any comments, suggestions are highly welcome.
Thank you.
You can still flash firmware with Odin from that Emergency screen. Just do button combo for download mode if you get that screen again, flash away. Just make sure you are using correct formware

Thanks for the suggestion. To be more precise - are you about this way? - https://www.droidwin.com/create-samsung-combination-firmware-flash-it-via-odin/ Why I'm asking - I don't see in Odin nothing about 'Combo', there is my screen:

I'm sorry for misunderstanding. When I use samloader to download firmware, in fact I get enc4 file, which need to be decrypted and result is Zip archive with 5 files inside - BL, AP, CP, CSC and HOME_CSC. So, four of them I can specify in Odin configuration - BL, AP, CP and either CSC or HOME_CSC. When you say 'stock firmware', what exactly do you mean? Some single file of those mentioned above or something else? I will appreciate if you can give more details. Thank you!
