Bricked S9+ how to revive - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Hello, colleagues,
I've bricked Samsung S9+ (SM-G965F). The story is the following:
1. I rooted it with LineageOS 19.1, but after some time of use decided to back it to original firmware
2. Using https://github.com/samloader/samloader I downloaded original firmware for my country (SEK, G965FXXUHFVG5)
3. And using this instruction - https://techbeasts.com/how-to-unroot-samsung-galaxy-s9-and-s9-plus/ - tried to restore original firmware
4. After this phone did not reboot, stucked with white "Samsung" word on the black screen
The error, I guess, was on step (3) above - phone probably was not official and when (too late!) I looked at https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s9-plus/firmware/ I got that, probably, I was need the most widely used European firmware G965FXXUHFVG4 instead of ...FVG5 and, having phone responsive, tried to repeat step (3).
At the end of this procedure, Odin said "RQT_CLOSED !!" and soon reported failed update, while phone stuck in "Downloading... Do not turn off target..." state in 1-2 pixels before the end of progress bar. Now, if I try to boot it, it shows exclamation sign and a message "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software" (of course, Smart Switch do not help - it says something about "plugin lost connection" or something like).
Since I tried to write wrong firmware, I then decided, using the following procedure - https://technastic.com/samsung-pit-file-download/ - to repartition it using PTI file according to instructions. It did not help - situation the same, Odin reports "RQT_CLOSED" and phone stucks in 1-2 pixels before the end of progress bar.
Now is the question - whether it's possible to revive the phone? Any comments, suggestions are highly welcome.
Thank you.

You can still flash firmware with Odin from that Emergency screen. Just do button combo for download mode if you get that screen again, flash away. Just make sure you are using correct formware

Thanks for the suggestion. To be more precise - are you about this way? - https://www.droidwin.com/create-samsung-combination-firmware-flash-it-via-odin/ Why I'm asking - I don't see in Odin nothing about 'Combo', there is my screen:

I'm sorry for misunderstanding. When I use samloader to download firmware, in fact I get enc4 file, which need to be decrypted and result is Zip archive with 5 files inside - BL, AP, CP, CSC and HOME_CSC. So, four of them I can specify in Odin configuration - BL, AP, CP and either CSC or HOME_CSC. When you say 'stock firmware', what exactly do you mean? Some single file of those mentioned above or something else? I will appreciate if you can give more details. Thank you!

Download firmware. Extract, place AP in AP spot in odin and so on with other files

Thanks a lot, firmware from this site helped, now I'm in. The difference was in CSC files, while other were the same. Thanks again, appreciate your help.

An adventure with rooting and flashing and wi-fi problems.

I thought it was time I sought some advice. I have been trying for several days to flash an upgraded ROM onto my wife's i545 model. The phone was bought by mailorder and we live in Australia. I have previously rooted my own phone; the biggest reason being to remove the obnoxious - check your battery cover - popup.
I have been able to root the phone with Kingroot.
So I 've been trying to flash an upgrade from Odin, but I can't find an appropriate tar or tar.md5 file. Scores of zips are available, but tar.md5s are nowhere to be found. I tried making my own tar.md5 from a youtube video. Basically, this involved using 7-zip to change a zip (I used cm12.1 and 13.1 direct from their website) into a tar file, and then using Cygwin to change it into an md5. When I load these home-created tar.md5s into Odin and press Start, Odin crashes.
I've also attempted to flash a recovery from the device itself, with twrp, clockworkmod and others. The flashing is "successful", but when I try to reboot to recovery, the device stops and says the bootup has failed.
So what suggestions do the experts have? Are the tar.md5s I created valid? Or are their valid tar.md5s available on the web? Is there something about this phone which prevents the bootup into recovery? The original complaint was the wi-fi connection. I also tried flashing a new kernel SCH-I545_MD2_423399_Kernel.tar.md5 and SCH-I545_MD2_562219_Kernel.tar.md5, philz_touch_6.48.4-hlte.tar.md5, TWRP-2.5.0.0-devjfltevzw.tar.md5, and TWRP-2.6.3.1-devjfltevzw.tar, all of which fail.
I've also tried Flash-Fire which insists the phone isn't rooted, although root-checker says it is, and Flashify which has the same problem of appearing to work but then booting up to error.

The Verizon S4 had a locked bootloader. A custom recovery is not possible with the latest firmware. You can root using the methods in the General section. After you have root you can use Flashfire to flash zips. Stock firmware can be found at www.sammobile.com in case you screw up or get a bootloop. I recommend getting rid of KingRoot su for SuperSU. There is a YouTube video on doing it.

Been forever since I used Odin and dived into the forums but I was trying to unlock and unbranded the phone and maybe root, I bricked mine in Odin with the wrong Firmware.
Turns out the firmware for the 715(A) AT&T locked version isn't anywhere to be found online except a single unlegit pay site.
-First thing to note is the newest Odin version will not work for the phone at all regardless, only the mod/patched version 3.14.1_3b_PatcheD (Other versions produce "odin repartition failed" error.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachments/odin3-v3-13-1_3b_patched-zip.5158499/
Put your phone in download mode:
Remove battery and reinstall (unplugged from PC)
Press the Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power Button(All 3 on right side) at the same time and it will pop up in download mode almost immediately)
Connect to PC
Doesn't matter if you launch Odin before or after connecting.
Install the Samsung Drivers first before using Odin(Use this link or Google it) :
Download Latest Samsung USB Driver v1.7.59 for Galaxy Devices
Download the latest Samsung Android USB drivers for Windows 10 and Smart Switch. USB drivers are required for seamless connection to a PC.
technastic.com
-Secondly this is the only firmware that will work, ill probably fileshare later, who knows how long it will be available:
Select CSC: ATT
Download Galaxy Xcover Pro SM-G715U1 (ATT) G715U1UES6ATL1 in Samfw - Samsung firmware download
Galaxy Xcover Pro SM-G715U1 (ATT - United States) G715U1UES6ATL1 Q(Android 10) samsung firmware download all model, lastest, fast update, completely free and fast speed in Samfw.com ✅
samfw.com
-Forth, it stayed on the Samsung Boot screen after flashing for a long time(Good 3 minutes), unusually long but everything started up fine after that, and every boot since has been normal. (You'll Note the first sign of the change is the Samsung Logo on boot instead of AT&T)
-Forth, this will downgrade you likely ATL4 Version to ATL1/AUB6(Android 10 vs 11) However first thing I did after setup was check for updates and install, it successfully upgraded to Android 11:
11 Working fine:

By the way, if anyone wants to keep unlocked, please do not update immediately. I found it hard to unlock bootloader after its version upgraded to 9
Please take this as reference: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/sw-rev-check-fail-bootloader-device-8-binary-6.4035053/
New updates:
Different CSC of the same version (i.e. G715U1) may have different functions. The point most noteworthy is that XAA did not have a dual sim manager. But ZTO does. (XAA is for the AT&T North America version and ZTO is for the Brazil version of G715U1, all can be downloaded from https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G715U1)
I had tried to use other versions (i.e. G715FN, combination firmware), but all failed.
Glad it did not go brick.
It is also not possible to use firmware of lower Bit/SW REV.
So hold your upgrade to higher Bit/SW REV. if you want to do some changes.
just wanted to say a thank you for this post!
I used a newer version of the SM-G715U1 firmware (2021-09-25) on my G715A...
https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G715U1/ATT/G715U1UESBBUI1
it probably didn't have any real advantage, other than that I needed fewer updates when I was done...

I recently got one of this Xcover Pro suckers for very cheap running Verizon software, I tried crossflashing to G715U1UESEBVA4 MXO since I popped my Mexican SIM card and a toast message appeared everytime telling me to call Verizon and the phone suddenly lost signal. With the new software the message doesn´t pop anymore, but I keep loosing network after 5 minutes. Someone has an idea of what could be going on? One thing that does still appear on the Odin menu is the Carrier ID set as VZW, my guess is that is what causing the network issue, but nevertheless I could be wrong, if someone has experience with this device and trying to use foreign SIM cards and is willing to lend some help it would be greatly appreciated!

How to make sure I have the latest modem and bootloader installed?

I am currently running:
Build: ALEXNDR.N960FXXU6FTJ5
Baseband version: N960FXXU6FTJ1
>MAKE SURE YOU HAVE LATEST MODEM AND BOOTLOADER INSTALLED!
Getting ready to flash a new rom, but I haven't done this for a while.
1) How do I check what modem version I have?
Based on the I *think* the modem is "FTJ1", but I'm not 100% sure.
2) How do I find out if there is a newer modem available?
3) What Bootloader version do I have? Is it "6" (the 5th character from the right in the Baseband version)?
Download the latest firmware from samfw.com. Since that website source builds official Samsung servers, the latest firmware there should be always the latest.
Thank you, @Cyndaquissshhh . Just to confirm, it doesn't matter that, in the past, I had flashed an unofficial ROM to my Note 9?

Yes, no problems. I have done this a few times before.
@Cyndaquissshhh what's the trick to downloading the firmware? I click it and it won't download...
Oh, there are three buttons (on some pages there will be four). You can either download it from Google Drive or "Download SamFW server". I don't recommend "download on browser" since the downloaded file would get stored as site data. As you can imagine that's not a good thing...
I find their site to be very confusing. Thank you for your help, @Cyndaquissshhh . I finally ended up download a file named "Samfw.com_SM-N960F_INS_N960FXXU9FUK1_fac.zip".
Can you (or anyone) verify that I have the correct file?
(Last time I tried something like this I soft-bricked my phone... thanks.)

If there's 4 tars in it, choose what it says. Like if it says AP, then choose the AP in Odin (you'll have to use ODIN ofc)
I don't know how it goes for newer devices but I had to always choose only a single file and then flash..
@notnoelchannel the .zip file has 5 files that all match up as you said (AP, BL, CP, and CSC) but the 5th file starts off with "HOME_". Does that go in the "USERDATA" box in Odin?

Don't use the HOME_CSC (i guess)
You need only 4 files, try flashing the 4 files but don't put the "HOME_" one
But as I said I don't own a Note 9, so I recommend to ask someone else :/
But if you choose all the files, it will flash the whole stock rom back!!!so don't!!! only BL and CP as Painkiller-axel said
Thank you. I have other questions regarding the flashing process but I think I will start another thread so this one doesn't get too confusing for people to read.

Recovery of files/pictures from bricked S21

Hi, I have an S21 and it is now bricked. I get the 'super build-id does not match with the reference' screen, every boot. I can get it into Download mode and it does show up with a com port in Odin. It is an unlocked phone bought directly from Samsung with a VZW sim card put in it. It was running G991U1UEU5CVDC (see attached screen shot of exactly what was running before bricked) and I want to put the same build back on it (or any build that will do the trick) with Odin to be able to get my Pictures off of it. From Sammobile I can get G991U1UEU5CVDC (https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s21/firmware/SM-G991U1/XAA/download/G991U1UEU5CVDC/1641071/)
Questions:
1. Do I get the XAA or the VZW firmware? (I assume XAA but not sure)
2. Both the XAA and VZW G991U1UEU5CVDC have the date of Apr 22, 2022 that matches my phone but the firmware times are 00:32:45 +0000 and my time is 09:59:55 KST. Does that matter? If so, what else do I do?
3. In Odin, if I put the BL, AP, CP files in and put the HOME_CSC file in the CSC, it won't delete my pictures right?
4. Anything else I should be doing to recover my pictures? i.e. is what I am trying to do going to work?
Thank you so much for any assistance, I appreciate it!

Sounds to me to be exactly as you're guessing. The phone orig was unlocked and XAA. But with the VZW sim it becomes as u have now.
So flash the XAA, it shouldn't change from the pattern it is now. And yes, home CSC avoids deleting apps and data, which is what you want.
Odd though you're needing to do this? Was it due to an update gone wrong? Something you did?
cheers

Thank you for the reply.
It was randomly rebooting daily. Device care said battery issue. Not sure if it was a hardware or software issue. I let it do the latest update that I had been putting off and it bricked. Not sure if it rebooted during the update or it was already in a bad state and the update failed.
