Hello everyone,
I've been having issues with my LG G5. I've updated it to Android 7 with the last OTA update from tmo. I keep having this random issue where there is no sound at all. It simply ceases.
When I get calls, the ringtone doesn't play.
If I pick up a call coming in, I do hear the caller without issue.
While on a call, the speaker does work.
The speaker does work when playing a music app (Rocket Player was used).
So, it appears that the notification and ringtone audio ceases.
I have changed the sound profile to ensure it is on Sound and not Silent or Vibrate.
I have made sure the volume is up all the way with each slider.
I've tested with disabling Call Settings like VoLTE which gave me issues on previous phones.
Wi-Fi, BT, NFC, GPS, and other features are off.
Wi-Fi Calling is disabled.
Do Not Disturb is disabled.
Anyone having similar issues?
What us an easy way to provide a list of apps?
Thank you,
Johnathan
So, has no one else seen this issue before?

Did it get wet? Was it exposed to any moisture?

Thanks Nick.
No, it hasn't gotten wet and is only exposed to air moisture.
Last night while at the house, I was texting and while doing so, it stopped providing notification sounds. The volume was up all the way as it normally is. A reboot brought them back.

No, it happens repeatedly at random. Usually once a day.

You try just LGup and kdz? Sometimes problems are just easier to go that route.

Nick,
Much appreciated.
I was thinking that was how I would have to go to root my phone. But, I've not done that before. I have the H830, what instructions would I perform to do that?

You don't need root for it. But here's where you need to go. READ it before going foward! Instructions all there. Not hard at all to do. Ask questions there if you need help. Once you do it once, it's a breeze after that.

My Atrix has been experiencing low volume on the Mic, but not all of the time. I can be talking and then all of a sudden the other party can hardly hear me.
Anyone else experience this type of issue?
+1

I get this all the time when talking to my fiancee or friend they always say they can't hear me. But alot of the times I talk to other people than never say anything about it being low.

Lots of people are experiencing this issue...which is why there was an article about it on Engadget this morning and why it has been publicly acknowledged by Motorola. It's being worked.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Specifically, if I shake the phone, and blow in the mic, it sometimes seems to help.
Pretty strange.
I was about to return the phone on account of this but maybe I'll keep it knowing there's a software issue they will address.

Any updates on this? The other end has trouble hearing me on pretty much every call I make. Should I try and get a replacement from Motorola, or is this believed to be a software issue?
It's incredibly frustrating when your phone doesn't work as a phone ...

I have the same freaking issue! Very annoying having to repeat myself often! Due to this issue and the crappy cameras, I'm gonna return the phone next week!
Follow this thread and please post if you are still having issues after 1.83 and turning off noise suppression. The more of us that let them know this is still a huge issue the more likely they will hopefully do something.
I paid full price and beyond the 30 day return period. Makes me long for the iphone 4, I just hate the battery situation on that..which is the ONLY reason I bought the Atrix...
Other than no one can hear me, its a nice phone...
https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/380841#380841
Have any of you tried turning off the noise suppression feature? I know this issue might be more than that though...

I often have difficulty with the person on the other end not being able to hear me. The phone seems to need to be perfectly positioned for the Mic to pick up my voice. Also the speech recognition software seems to be less accurate than it was when I bought the phone a month ago. Has anyone tried to clean the mic?
I have this problem all the time and I can see no difference when using noise suppression or not. Would love to fix this but havn't hear anything about it lately.
I have this issue as well. I turned off noise suppression but for what it's worth, no discernible difference at least that I've noticed. Bummer.
Why is it that every Android phone has this problem? SE X10, HTC Desire Z, Motorola Atrix... Jesus... I just want a working mic and speakerphone for the rare occasion that I use my phone as a phone!!
One of the early updates was supposed to help with microphone issues.

And unfortunately it didn't.

Nothing beyond the mic on my Atrix sucks. Perhaps more than others?
I chatted with Motorola about my microphone issue.
The suggested going to Settings > Applications> Manage Applications > filter to All> scroll and go to "Media audio Effects" then select "Clear Data". After doing so reboot the phone.
I did so and the microphone works much better now.

What version are you on? Mine has nothing stored in the cache after making a phone call, so I can't clear anything.
Hmm. Thanks for the lead though. I'd love to see whether this works or if there are any other steps to try!

...I know this is an old thread, I'm trying to find some ways to make me NOT sound muffled and far away to the people I'm talking to on my Atrix...
EDIT: I cleaned the microphone with positive results. I made a HOW-TO HERE.
has any one experienced problems while talking on the phone? it doesn't always happen but the other person on the line stops hearing me until I move the phone a little away from my face and they can start hearing me again. Its very annoying and weird, maybe it has to do something with the senor? I am on stock but rooted, I tried another rom and same issues.
Even though the mic placement is uite traditional for today's mordendo phones, I do find the GS3 is a bit more sensitive than others. Had some people complain about hearing me when on speakerphone and when I had it on my face.
Sent from my badass Galaxy SIII.
I also had this issue today when I switched hands the party on the other line could not hear what I was saying, it was like I Was muted, it was only when I moved it away from my face and back were they able to hear me.
Same here . Have had the issue before rooting and after.

Could it be the screen protector messing around with the sensors ? Are the ones with the problem all have screen protectors ?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I have been having the same problem. I'll be talking and for some reason the person on the other end will stop hearing me. So far, they have hung up before I could figure out how to fix the problem.
It only happens when I have the phone next to my face and it doesn't happen with every call. It also has NEVER happened when I use my bluetooth headset.
I do not have a screen protector on and my phone is stock. Sprint is the carrier I am using. I did not have this problem on any other phone I have owned.
Anyone have suggestions to keep this from happening?
I hope it doesn't turn out to be a defect

To be honest I'm not even sure it's a noise being produced by the NFC feature, but a post on Androidforums mentioned a noise similar to the one I'm experiencing and suggested it maybe due to the NFC feature of the S3.
Basically whenever I move my device up and down, or out of my pocket and place it on a desk or table, it makes a large "blip" like noise. It drives me absolutely mad, especially when attempting to use the device while golfing or bike riding, constantly blipping in my ear.
Can anyone else confirm this noise so I know I'm not crazy? Even better, could someone inform me how to disable this?
Thank you.

No rom, unfortunately (VZW) but one of the first things I did was disable S-Voice when I first received my S3 over a week ago.

Disabled s-voice? Aww.. mess with it. If you tell it you want to die, it suggests talking to another. Say the word "******" and it chastises you. Ask it if it has a soul and it gets existential on you. There are other ways to mess with it. Have some fun.

I have enabled all settings and trained and retrained the voice model. I cannot seem to get the OK Google detection from any screen. It works when I open the app or when I slide up from the bottom which is opening the app. I am using the Verizon Wireless version.
Any tips or is anyone else experiencing this issues too?
I had the same issue yesterday, but now it works for some reason. The only thing I did was to install the Google Now launcher, update the settings there, test it, and go back to the LG UI. There's no way for me to know if this made it work, I just know that now it does.
I'll try this and see what happens. I wish it would just work the way its built.

Using Google Now Launcher didn't help.

I read somewhere the other day that the most recent update to google search broke voice detection from any screen and lock screen. Waiting on a fix from Google..
That would make sense. I was getting frustrated with this device. It doesn't have the smart screen that stays on when you're looking at it and the issue with the fingerprint not working with a case then Ok Google detection not working. I was about to take it back.

I had this issue on the htc m9 also, so I figured it was the app, or Android version 5.1
It seems to be fixed now.

Mine still works just about half the time, just like on the HTC m9.
I have no issues with it since an update a few days ago.

What is the version? Mine doesn't work. And when I retrain, it doesn't even hear me. However I can hit the microphone button and ask it a question without issue.
In Settings/Apps, the "Google App" I have is version 5.5.29.19.arm64
That's the most updated. Are you sure that you have Voice Detection turned on?
Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk
Gah, mine is actually still sporadic here, worse than before even. At the moment I can't train my voice or talk after hitting the microphone button.... The Google app just isnt hearing me at all anywhere. The LG voice command app seems to work so I don't think it's my microphone.
It seemed to be working last night but I rebooted my phone this morning and now nothing

Yup. And when I attempt to retrain it, it says "listening" even after I say "OK Google". It just doesn't hear me. But I can press the mic icon and say "what time it is it" or any question like that without any issue at all.
Hmmmmm. I have found that the V10 does have some bugs. Not sure exactly why. For example, sometimes I see it disconnect from what is a very stable WiFi.

I haven't seen that, but I have noticed that the signal strength meter for the wifi seems to show a weaker signal than it did with my M9. And that the cell reception also seems a bit weaker as well.
It happens to me more at work than at home. Sometimes I have to switch to the Xfinity connection to watch Hulu. The WiFi at work isn't great. That's why we all hardwire our laptops.

My only similar scenario is watching Showtime at the gym. They have a Netgear router there. I have now watched all of the latest season of Homeland there (about 50 minutes per episode), and haven't had any disconnection issues.
Anyone else having an issue with the speaker phone going dead during calls? I have this happen all the time about 5 minutes into a call. Turning the speaker off and then back on helps but it keeps happening.
There's another thread rife with complaints about this issue, and it seems to be affecting all U.S. (at least) carriers more or less equally.
I suspect it's an LG software issue rather than a hardware one, but I obviously have no way of knowing.
I only vaguely recall that my old phone, the LG V30+, had a similar issue that was ultimately fixed via software.
Out of curiosity, have you tried using a different default phone/dialer app?
I use Google's Phone app, which should be available on the Google Play Store, if it's not already pre-installed on your device.
Edit: Here's the other thread.
