I found a temporary solution to fix our problem. It is probably unsafe. Make it on your own risk.
I downgraded for MM, installed Xposed Framework and Battery Shutdown Manager. In experimental options (Pro=2$) i set "Disable critical battery shutdown".
Today i walked outdoor (it was -5C, but usually my phone die even in warm places) and my battery dropped from 15% to 0, but phone kept working about hour (streaming Online Music via Bluetooth handset). When i connected it to charger at home it really fast went back to 15%.
Full discharge of Lithium battery is very bad. If your phone will shut down with this module / option - battery will be degradate faster. Battery can fully break down.
Really? I don't care. Let Google make a better and stable battery. I will use this "fix" when i have the battery issue, even its getting the same Note 7 explosion. I will address GOOGLE as guilty. Why? Because i bought a €600 phone, like the rest of us, that doesnt pass the QC for me on different levels (Amoled lottery (3 times), echo in call, shutdown bug (not yet), bending issue(not yet), power button issue(not yet etc etc.)).

I've got a major battery issue with my three year old Nexus 10.
The battery indicator shows something around 75%, drops to 0 in a split second, switches in energy saving mode (notification and navigation bar are turning red) while it shuts down.
To verify I made an Automate Flow saves the battery charge every second to a text file. Result:

Okay, it thought to myself, after three years the battery is broken. So I bought a replacement battery (Samsung original) and replaced it - but nothing changed.
To clear all old stats (and running Android 6.0.1) I wiped everything TWRP offered and installed CM13 - but nothing changed.
Now my only guess is, that there's some EPROM (or other memory hardware) that stores battery stats.
Can you, dear forum, help me fixing that issue?

I'm facing the same problem here with my d6563, after the MM OTA update i started to face quick vertical battery drop, but we're not the only ones, some users are reporting this issue in a lot of devices, some of them after update, some others after rooting, some of them just after some apps update, and the thing is that nothing seems to work, some users claim to have solved the issue, but they are just talking to fast, because the problem comes back the same day, they just think taht the battery data is accurate but then the drop accurs, si, i'm starting a new thread listing all the solutions tghat senior members have recomended and failed in order to track this problem to his roots once in for all, it's been happening since kitkat at y has come worse since marshmallow

Battery _stats_ issue
I had, ummm, similar issues with my TCL S720 (in less degree) and now with TCL M2U (TCL Meme da 3N M2U AKA Alcatel Flash+) phones.
TCL M2U has 3500mAh battery capacity.
After full charge it discharge normally to ~40%. Behind 40% it is discharged to 1% for a few minutes and shuts off!
If then I charge it again to 100% then it eats about its full capacity (~3500mAh) - checked with Keweisi USB Doctor and shows 100% charge, but discharges to 40% again.
On other firmware there is similar effect but for 30% level or 15% level, it depends on firmware.
I think that the battery is OK but the charge percentage display is wrong.
Another strange thing is when I see the charge level using Ampere app. It shows i.e. 50% battery level and 3.762V voltage on the battery. Then I plug it in charger. For a short time the voltage rises to 3.8V and more but the battery level is lowered to 45%! Also if I charge the phone from discharged state then the battery level is 1% for the long time, then it quickly raise to ~30% and then shows charge process normally (almost linear). The USB Doctor show the charge process smooth almost all time (from stronger current to weaker).
So I join to the 1st post question: where is the battery's _real_ voltage level data?

If I leave the phone unplugged overnight, it will be dead by morning (this is a new thing, it holds a charge pretty well). Doesn't have to be overnight either, could be just a half hour or something. The battery just dies randomly.
Even if I do have the phone plugged in and have the screen on (watching a youtube stream) it will randomly go to 0% and self shutdown.
Stock battery which seems to be stuck inside the phone. It doesn't seem to come out, I don't know if it's glued in or what.

I have the same issue with mine and I just received it as a replacement phone about 3 months ago. If anyone has a clue as to what to do please share. Been to all the blog pages and customer pages related to this model and it seems to be a recurring issue and so is overheating and a dozen other things. What the point in having Lifeline when all the phones that they give or sell don't work.
And I thought it was just me. Needing a lifeline phone seems to mean we get the worst of the worst devices. I had to pay extra for the UL40 because the "free" phone was useless. The UL40 is near useless, and this battery issue makes it unreliable.
i have the UL40 and requested a replacement phone (because of unsustainable malware issues that survived a factory reset) and the L50 they sent me had this issue. i couldn't find a solution and had to request another replacement.
oddly, i occasionally experienced an apparent battery discharge (phone powers off, needs to be connected to power to boot up again) but when it powered back on the battery was at ~65%, clearly plenty of power.
my completely uneducated guess is that the battery terminals in some of these phones are loose, either causing the battery to discharge completely or simply disconnect momentarily, resulting in the phone losing power.
I want to share the battery problems are back again after upgrading to Oreo ROM(new bootstacks) with a new battery.
So battery life issue? Im so happy i did not update to oreo from B9 7.1.1

also, Do the whole 0 to 100% thing to calibrate battery. install gsam and Akku app to see battery info,check for anomalies.

when my battery is charged for 68% and i unplug it on 68%...1 minute later it sits on 69%.It charged 1% when not plugged in.Or when my phone boots on 53%,i unlock with pin and then it drops to 52% and is stuck on 52% for a long time.Weird.
I would support Pruikki about wiping cache partition and calibrating your battery. I had problems similar to yours and have solved them (hopefully) with both of the above.
My battery is the original one and the device is about/a little bit more than 2 years, currently on B03 Oreo. I am sure my battery is still OK but after recent OS upgrades it went mad. The phone will turn off sometimes at 51% battery, sometimes it will reach 100% in 40 minutes from almost empty, or I will see battery charging 1 percent up every few seconds. Or even the phone will turn off at 23% but will show more than 50% immediately when connected to the charger.
I'd try discharging the phone completely until it reaches zero but real zero. The last time it happened to me, the phone turned itself off at 17% claiming it was empty. I started it on and the battery showed 17% (not zero) and stayed at 17 for quite a while. However the first time the phone got loaded, like watching YouTube video in the browser, it turned off again on its own. This repeated a few times until I made sure that the battery was completely squeezed off and not only I couldn't start it but when connected to the charger it shows the left yellow bar and no percentage.
Then you need to connect it to the charger but not turn on and make sure you charge it to 100% while it is off. I'd keep it at 100% for a few minutes to make sure it really reached it. Then you start the phone and let it boot. It is recommended that you repeat this procedure again - discharge again to 0, charge to 100% un-powered, then start over - although once should be OK too. In my case, the phone does no longer turn off before reaching zero but I am yet to see how long this will last. I wiped off the cache partition too since it stores various data that may interfere with the settings, especially after software update.
This does not work,i also recommend you dont do this...this make the battery worst...i already tried.
its possible to charge to 100 but when you unplug it,it goes to 99 directly.
I also tried other bootstacks with other twrp version.And sometimes it shows other battery% when i did not plugged the charger
For me it works but I am stock. I'd sometimes charge it to 93-94% before 7am, will use it slightly throughout the day for Instagram, Whatsapp, some browsing, music listening on the way to and from work (1 hour at least total) with about 1-1.5 hours total SoT and around 8pm I'd still have some 15-8% when connected to the charger.
This is after wiping out the cache partition and doing 0-to-100% charging while off and no restart yet. Battery really goes 99-98% upon starting it upon the battery calibration process when the charger is off, still it works OK now. I noticed that after every restart phone memories the battery state prior to the restart and sometimes will turn off at this level long before zero. I don't say it will be the same for you, but this is how it does for me. I don't dare changing the original battery myself and will keep the phone for as long as it functions, even if I buy something else.
Nothing, really nothing even of the current flagships (apart from LG but there are loads of other issues there) offers dedicated second amp, fully rectangular screen at 2K (not the sh*tty FHD+), not to mention the amazing front facing stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos with extra internal settings (not just on and off button), and 3.5mm phone jack and not some mediocre adapters all at the same time. Sorry, but if ZTE offered the same device with bigger battery, improved camera and SD 855, it would have overtaken the sales of any so claimed flagships all around, even if it matched their prices. At least I would have gone for ZTE again...
Greetings. The past month I've been getting wrong battery readings from my redmi 5(rosy, miui global 11.0.2 stable, android 8.1.0). It no longer charges to 100%, regardless if it's turned on or off, unless I unplug and replug the charger in which case it jumps immediately to 100%. There are massive percentage drops when idling( 20% drop in less than an hour), and the battery will drop all the way to 2% within 24hours. The battery life itself is no issue. I get consistently about 6-7 hours of screentime, and about 2 hours of that screentime the battery is stuck at 2%. I use the voltage readings from gsam monitor to know when the phone needs to charge, (3300mah battery, 4.3 max charge,3.45V minimum).
Attempting to repair the problem I've tried the following:
1) Allowed the phone to completely drain and shut down, left it to charge. No good. Stopped at 88%. I've attempted this multiple times to no effect.
2)Took the battery off the board and replugged it.
3) Bought a new battery altogether. Even replaced the usb board and the flex cable just to be sure.
4)Swapped the charger with one from a Redmi Note 5.
5) Rooted the phone, installed gsam battery monitor. Although I discovered various issues,the battery consumption is still negligible. Assuming I can trust the readings, 70% of battery life goes to the screen. 0ne thing worth noting however is the Android system process is constantly using the significant motion detector. I traced it back it the Google play services, but it doesn't allow me ,even with root access to turn off its use of sensors.
6) Deleted the batterystats.bin file from the system folder.
7) Enabled the battery saving feature and disabled synchronization.
8) Reset smartphone to factory settings.
9) Wiped data and cache from recovery.
10)Flashed a Pixel Experience custom rom.
11)Installed accubattery. It calculated a smaller battery capacity. However all the metrics and statistics were thrown out of whack as soon as the battery started freefalling from 40% to 2%(in idle).
12)Charged the phone from recovery mode(Orangefox). Still stuck at 87-88%.
The battery doesn't drain when the phone is turned off, but it still won't charge to 100% unless I replug the charger.
Also I forgot to mention but the phone is strictly used in airplane mode as secondary device so you can rule out cell standby drain from poor signal reception.
I'm thinking of flashing back the original rom but what are the odds of this being a rom related issue?
I'm currently testing it's full idle drain time. I won't use the device for at least 24 hours or wait until it's discharged completely.
Has anyone else encountered a similar issue? Thank you for your time.

It's not a good idea to charge with screen on especially in high temperatures or in direct sunlight. You can cause hardware damage like this... auto thermal shutdown may not engage fast enough to save the device.
In general charging while using skews the charging curve, increases charging time and battery stress. These phones have a fixed heat sinking capacity which cases and glass screen protectors further compromise.
Constant operation with battery levels near 100% will impact battery longevity noticably.
Keep watch for any signs of case bulging. It indicates battery swelling/failure. Replace it immediately if this happens. Other signs of a battery failure are a sharp drop in capacity, erratic fast charging or failure of fast charging to engage. A swollen battery can destroy the display.
The risk of a thermal runaway event increases exponentially with a failed or degraded Li.
Replace them when their capacity falls below 80% of new to avoid a failure.

99.9% of the time I'm charging, the screen is off and I'm watching tv before bed. I'll unplug at 100% and go to bed. I also won't plug in until I'm under 15%.
I work in cell phone whole sale and repairs, so one thing I understand well is taking care of a device.
But, disabling that setting recommended above, it still stops charging at 75% entirely and never goes to 100 unless I turn it off entirely

If the screen is on it may not charge at all.
This is normal.
Cycling the battery like you do stresses it and will reduce its lifespan.
Li's like frequent mid range power cycling.
Not under 30% or over 80%
If it didn't use to behave like this the battery may have degraded. 1-2 years is a typical lifespan for a heavily used Li. Approximately 200 full charge cycles.
Replace when it degrades to less than 80% of its original capacity to avoid a failure.
This phone has only been out since January 2021, so its not a batter degrade issue. Plus, it was pulled brand new out of the box like this. You also didn't read what I said. I'm not using it while charging at all. Its sitting on a table next to me while I'm watching tv or gaming on my PC/Switch. I'll check it once in awhile to see battery percentage and it will stop at 75%, then discharge as if its not plugged in at all. I have to turn the phone OFF COMPLETELY to charge it to 100% once I get to 75%
I'm assuming software issue. when I had GSI roms on the phone, it worked fine.

Li batteries can fail at any time.
Symptoms; diminished battery capacity, erratic fast charging. Any signs of phone swelling, usually the rear cover is a battery failure in progress. Replace immediately.
If the phone is drawing more current than the charger and/or the power controller can supply, it will drain the battery.
It may be a software, firmware or hardware issue...
Check all settings, disable all power management. Enable fast charging (toggle on/off 3 times then leave on).
Clear system cache and do a hard reboot.
Return associated updated apps to their factory loads.
If you did any major firmware (OS) updates do a factory reset.
A defective/improper charger or cable; try known good Samsung charger/cable.
Defective C port PCB.
A failed mobo.
Time to send it in for service or replacement.
