no, i did not. if you mean titanium back up then yes. i followed the instructions on briefmobile..
edit: how would that effect networks or whatever it did..?
wooooow.. xD i just pluged my phone into my computer while having motorola software update started and i have full bars now.. this is very weird.
I dont know if i should be happy or worried LOL
I think I'm having a similar issue. The network is working after unlocking but I can't add my Google account, so I'm locked out of the Android Market and Gmail etc..
I am getting the message "Can't establish reliable connection" when I try to add my Google account to the phone.
I have read that the only solution to this is to do a hard reset. If I have unlocked am I safe to do a hard reset?
My other thought was to re-root and restore the Titanium Backup I took before unlocking. Maybe the system settings I saved would fix it? However when I go reboot to Fastboot and try ADB shell it no longer finds my device (USB debugging is enabled and my drivers must be up to date if I rooted three days ago).
If the easiest thing to do is just hard reset I will do that I just need to know whether it is safe after unlocking. I feel like unlocking may have interfered with whatever the phone uses to communicate with servers but I have no clue if that is possible.
Edit: I was able to root again, had not realized ADB will not work from the fastboot screen. fastboot devices showed my phone. I got rooted, side loaded Titanium Backup and BusyBox. Now I am restoring my apps and settings, I will report back if the problem with signing into Google is resolved.

Titanium Backup Restore is done now but I am not out of the water yet. I have all of my applications back and in settings under Accounts I have all of my accounts listed now, but when I launch Android Market or Gmail both applications crash. I tried to add another Gmail account to the phone and when I click Next to begin logging in, I immediately get the "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server" screen, along with an error dialog saying Gmail has stopped unexpectedly.
I can't tell if this means I got further or am really in the same spot as before
So... can anyone answer the question of whether I am safe to do a hard reset after unlocking and rooting?

The problem I run into when using Titanium Backup, is that it restores the app and the data associated with the app, and the data caused force closes for the market (Play in my case) and other apps. Try clearing the cache for them. (From the home screen > Menu > Manage Applications > "App" > Clear Data)

I've honestly never tried it, but hard-reset appears to be the equivalent to wiping cache (and dalvik) and re-flashing. You might try wiping your cache and dalvik cache and flashing the ROM again. Trying a "factory" restore after modifying the factory data on your phone doesn't seem like it would work.

I did "Clear Data" for Gmail and Market (that is what it is called in my applications list, but the icon says Play).
Gmail is working again! The Market/Play app still gets to a white screen and says "Loading" with the whirly icon then goes away without any information. I see another item in the application list called Google Play Services, should I clear that data as well?

You shouldn't have to. If you're seeing a long loading screen, be patient. If it shows market in one spot and Google Play in another, it's probably trying to update.

I decided to try side-loading the Google Play Store since the market is no longer used. I got the apk from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836057.
Now it loads but tells me Authentication is Required. Please sign in. I checked the accounts in the menu and my google account is selected, so I'm not sure what the problem is since Gmail is fine with the account now.

Where did you start in all this? Were you on a custom ROM and are now trying to get back to stock? Are you on stock and trying to unlock the bootloader or root? The direction you're going will help determine what you may or may not want to try next.

I am getting help from you in two separate posts it looks like so I will just consolidate to this thread, I apologize for posting all over the place just hoping to knock this out before the weekend is over.
I started with the official Gingerbread ROM from Motorola. I rooted, then unlocked, then rooted again.
My goal is to end up on an ICS ROM but I would like to get a good back up of the stock ROM first, so I want to knock this problem out, back it up, then flash to a custom ROM. You suggested going ahead and flashing the custom rom, I am just worried about making the problem worse by doing that.
The only problem I am noticing is that I cannot get into the Play Store, and I still get the Can't Establish Reliable connection message when trying to add a Google account. However, Gmail is working now but I can't add another account. I have connected to Wifi and I am still having the problem while connected.

If you side-loaded Google Play, try clearing any cache (App Data) for it as well. I don't know why your market/play is acting up if all you did was root > unlock > root. Assuming you have flashed CWM Recovery, you may end up having to get Google Apps (usually called gapps) and installing them as a zip to correct this. If so, here are the steps:
Get them from here or browse them all http://goo-inside.me/gapps/ and get the ones you want.
Load them onto the root directory of the phone's SD Card (not the internal memory).
Reboot into Recovery
Choose the option "Install Zip from SD Card" using the volume keys and the lock button
Scroll down to gapps-gb-tegra-20110118-signed.zip (or whichever one you got if you browsed them) and hit the lock button
Scroll down to whichever one says "Yes" in the midst of all the "No"s (I think that's how they're listed)
Reboot when the install is finished. It shouldn't take more than a minute or two.

I'm going to try the Gapps install, but I am having an issue flashing CWM apparently. I follow the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500 but I am still not seeing Clockwork Mod Recovery. When I reboot, hold volume down, go to Android Recovery and press up, I still see the Android/Triangle/Exclamation point icon. Press volume down and up and see a blue menu with three or 4 options but none are Install from SD, so I am guessing I'm not successfully flashing CWM.
Edit: I did not delete the system/etc/install-recovery.sh file before flashing CWM. I am trying to do that then flash again, but ES File Explorer will not let me delete the file. My super user may need to be updated, but since I can't connect to the store it won't do it on its own.
I resolved the the issue with CWM thanks to Zestar in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423&page=16
I just have to reflash every time until I decide to go for the custom rom. I installed GAPPS from CWM Recovery but I am still having the same issue with being told i need to authenticate my account.
I got a ROM backup while in CWM as well so I think at this point I will just flash a custom rom and see where that gets me. Since I got a copy of the rom I should be able to return to this point in time anyways (could be wrong though )
Thanks for your help, I will report back once I have flashed to a new ROM and see what happens.
I didn't get this done before the weekend was up but got time tonight and flashed to the TopSmarts GingerBread ROM (it is really cool to me, a first time custom rom-er). I was able to get set up on e-mail (don't have a Gmail app loaded yet) but Play Store - which I had to side load - is crashing when I try to add an account still.
I flashed the Gapps from above after flashing the new ROM but none of them showed up when the phone booted into the rom for the first time. Do I need to do something other than install from CWM?
Edit: I flashed the Gapps from TopSmarts and rebooted and was able to get Play Store running. It had a minor hiccup and repeated the sign in process a few times but now it is updating my apps. I am happy with the world again, thank you for your help.

Glad you got it working. I've never seen the TopSmarts ROM as I am also very new to the custom ROM world. I flashed CyanogenMod 7 Nightly (I didn't know Nightly versions were beta until after I flashed it), and I love it! It took me a couple of tries to get the gapps working too, but once they worked, I haven't really had a problem since.
I have S2 and tried almost all Stock and Custom ROMs from scratch but getting "An error occurred while loading the page" . First time after installing the app when I login it works properly but when I close and open again 2nd time it popups application page two times then blank page and this error appears. I tried all options even different facebook accounts but same problem. Currently I am using stock 2.3.5 but still problem is there even though everything is up to date. What can be the issue? Please help.
I get the same problem. It's been a month already.
This has rendered my facebook app completely useless.
Even now wit the 1.7.2 update released today, it's still the same.
I emailed facebook support 2 weeks ago with no answer.
SGS @ 2.3.4 XXJVR rooted
Help please

Did you guys restore app+data for facebook app while switching between ROMS? This has created problem for many users.
Restore only app using titanium after flashing a new ROM.
Also, try clearing data of facebook app.
I didn't restore anything. I started from zero again after flash. I'm on a stock rom.
I did clear data and cache
Also uninstalled, restart, reinstall. Nothing helped

I have same problem on wildfire s with different roms.. also cleared cash, all apps installed from scratch and only fb doesn't load any page from menu.. it syncs contacts and show me notifications but when i go in the app - "An error occurred while loading this page" .
I tried older version of app ( it was pre installed in EQDKP 4.6 ROM ) and updated with same results.
This version seams to work . It's crap but it works..
Can't download on wifi "appname" could not be downloaded due to an error - 403
Can't download on wifi "appname" could not be downloaded due to an error - 403
Hey Guys, so I've been having the error 403 when trying to update or install ANY apps via Wi-Fi, ones I have purchased and ones that are free. But I can download when I am connected to my phone data (vodafone AU).
I have tried restoring via nandroid backup (i think I have gapps installed, even though I am still on the stock ROM), forgetting the gmail account, and then logging back in, restarting (duh), logging back into wifi, cleared cache etc, basically all the fixes people have said.
PLEASE HELP ASAP!
P.S I am rooted and would unroot for it to work, btw would reseting the router do anything? :crying:
114 views, no replies, so that would imply its not just me with this problem?
First try and go to settings/appmanager, find play store and clear the cache.
Write back if it's not fixed.
It didn't help :-\

I completely removed root using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721380 guide which you install the stock EVERYTHING i guess and it still doesn't work :crying: PLEASE HELP!
Edit: I used my nandroid backup not the one supplied (it gave me md5 mismatch)
That is one of the best unroot and back to stock guides..
Can i ask were u are from. Maybe Google or your country removed access to paid apps, because your wifi is working for browsing and u are able to download free apps.
So either access to paid apps have been removed or did u log in using a different gmail account .
I did have a similar problem more than a year ago and sometimes i get the 403 error, but only for an hour or so.
Ps. I has nothing to do with root, a lot of apps can not be used without root and can bought on market.
Edit:can u buy new apps. Can u try(just one) and return the purchase immediately .to if your account is up and running.
The problem isn't root or stock, I'm on stock and I get this regularly if I start a download just as I have switched on Wifi, if it fails, i start again it works fine.

I did read thank you, and I am also talking about receiving a 403 error.
But, As I have stated, it usually only happens immediately after connecting wifi. If I click ok and try again it usually works the second time.

That could potentially yes.
I just recalled another time I had this problem, and it was solved by selecting a different account (because I had multiple Google accounts set up).
Do you have multiple? If so, give it a go by selecting an alternative account from within Play Store, by hitting Menu - > Accounts.

It didn't work but thanks (thankyou everyone) and I think it is the forwarding ports problem or the new Google Play update
Sorry 'bout that. But port forwarding shouldn't interfere with play store. Maybe I'm wrong. Ooh well good luck anyway
I'm having this problem on incoming calls, just from certain contacts. Other contacts get through ok.
What happens is that the phone displays the message "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped", and I don't see who called and not a missed call. Sometimes even the error message closes by itself before I see it, so I don't know that there was a call.
To fix, I tried to wipe all data+cache+dalvik ache, didn't help. I reflashed a different rom, didn't help.
Recently I've synced my contacts to facebook with the Sync.ME app, and I suspect it might be the cause.
Any ideas on how I get my incoming calls work again?
First do a fullwipe again.
Then directly test it (not flash of another kernel or restore of any apps! )
Choose any Rom which should work for u.
Test it.
If anyway have problems, u should go back on a stock firmware and do a factory reset then.
Then test.
Uf this works now - root and flash Rom
again
Otherwise it's hardware (don't think so) or maybe account/Google related.
Much success and play give a short feedback.

Thanks,
Any way to debug the problem?
Kinda tired of all the wipes/restores...
I will try to connect to LogCat via ADB and see if there's something suspicious.
Please tell me if you think of other ways to debug this.
U can try to fix permissions via CWM
And also u can try to replace the phone.apk from another one.
But because u already did a fullwipe, I think this won't help, that's why I gave u this recommendations .

yee-hah!!
problem fixed
This was caused by an old backup using BackMyTones, where the contacts weren't in sync with the ones existing in the google database (and phone).
Tried many things (like full wipe and one-by-one app installation like you suggested), but what I could have done to avoid a full wipe was detaching the google account to erase all contacts, then reattach it. This fixed things.
Thanks for the help!

So when i'm trying to restore my backup from google account (on first time setup android), it didn't restored correctly. My hotspot settings, sound settings still has the default config from the ROM. But i have a suspect to Android setup, which always appearing to the notification and settings, and when i clicking it, it will says preparing and you need to connect to wifi. But i've already.
oh, for the information, this thing happens on all Pie rom build end of november-now (early dec)

no, i'm never restore apps from play store. It only restore settings configuration, and some apps which has backup on drive.
Use migrate app
Use this app and u can migrate from rom to rom easily without losing apps and app data (setting, permission, etc)
Ok, maybe it's not a fix, but a workaround because till the date, while i wrote this (15 Dec 2018), the only cusrom that doesn't need this workaround only Aex, yes, Aex initial official build, while other pie still has this bug.
So what i did is select one of my apps to restore while on first time setup, then when arrived on home screen after completing first time setup, find app restore notification on status bar. Click on use mobile data, then select restore now. After that click on apps, it will send you to play store, to the apps update list.
While on Play Store, cancel all apps than on update list, then find the apps by keyword or in library, that have been selected on first setup. Click cancel to that, and you're done. All apps Settings, Settings (like sounds settings, keyboard preferences, etc) will restored correctly.
tl;dr, backup restore from google account doesn't works if you doesn't select at least 1 app while on apps selecting on first time setup. This thing happen on almost all Pie Rom that i've tried (note : only using rom that maintened by official maintener and never tried GSI) (Nos, MSM, liquid remix, Havoc,Arrow, PE, Bootleggers) except Aex.

Not a good idea. If u move from one rom to another. Restoring User Settings creates problem. Everyrom has diffrent tree. Can create crashes and drain.
Even restoring it on same rom is not good idea since same rom goes through huge changes.

Yeah you're right, sometimes if the backup comes from heavily modded rom like LR, Havoc, then it restored to minimal cust like Arrow, Nos, then it would make the systemui crashed and phone stopped responding
