How do you fight wakelocks & alarms in Android 7? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I own Sony Xperia X and running the latest FW
Decided the other day to check wakelocks and alarms with BBS - worse than Android 6....
I got alarms mainly from:
1. Doze alarms from DeviceIdleController.light/deep
2. WifiConnectivityManager
3. GCM_Reconnect if mobile data is off
HeartBeat_Alarm when its on
4. EventLogServiceReceiver
Xposed for N is not available so Amplify & Unbounce don't work.
Any ideas how to limit the amount of these alarms? This is the only reason I hate Android...all these uncontrollable wake-ups that take 1-2% battery/h while idling...

With ResurrectionRemix rom there is an option to block alarms and wakelocks. However I did not find any way to get rid of the wificonnectivitymanager alarms. Any news or solutions on this?

[Q] Alarms from com.google.android.location

Over 800 alarms from com.google.android.location are observed in BBS overnight.
I know this can be solved by disabling location service, but is there a way that I can identify which apps are causing the alarms?
I have already turned off wifi/mobile data/auto sync.
Thanks:laugh:

may be many apps running in the background?
wakelocks
My device is rooted and using root access almost all the bloatware has been frozen and I have very limited apps. I didn't have a wakelock problem before rooting but now my cpu wakes up at regular intervals of time and sometimes its on all the time ( even when the screen is off).
The apps that I have on my phone are
Opera mini
Temple run
Whatsapp
Viber
Superuser
Default Samsung browser
S memo
S planner
Gmail
music player ( default )
Calculator
Video player
Standard reply is use Better Battery Stats to find what wakelocks .

I tried gsams a while ago. I didn't know what that specific app was so I just performed a hard reset

BetterBatteryStats
I just found out that there is a free version of BetterBatteryStats for xda members. downloaded and installed it.am following the instructions . . . but do any of you know how to interpret the observations?
hi dude,
if you have various system or user apps wakelocks , first do a monitoring it with your favorite battery monitor and analysis tool to details.
you can use traditional battery savers (i didn't recommend)
I do use greenify (paid app, but very good - the "engine" is different, doesn't kill or freeze, but hibernate system (need root) or users apps.
increase my battery and decrease unnecessary wakelocks ...

I'm uploading my bbs reading. can you guys tell me what this means?
wakelocks
By looking at the task manager you can deduce that I have minimal number of applications running in the background and that all the bloatware has either been frozen removed of greenified.
and by looking at the battery graph you can conclude that I have wakelocks as the cpu doesn't go into deep sleep even when the screen is off

hi
there was in you files, eg.
gtalk GTALK_ASYNC_CONN_com.google.android.gsf.gtalkservice.AndroidEndpoint
gmail com.google.android.gm.Gmail
high durations
look in settings the sync settings ... maybe adjust the sync ...
there was long wakelock time durations eg m_duration=74554
others wakes
m_name=DropboxCpuOnlyWakeLock, m_duration=48767
causes ... sync? look the dropbox settings
m_name=PhoneWindowManager.Broadcast WakeLock, m_duration=57822
localization apps related?
i did read for this and guys reported problems in volume buttom or others ... pressing or bump problems ... or (its hard to believe lol) leather cases that press buttons
Common tips - reference http://better.asksven.org/bbs-how-to/
"Following tips can help you reducing some causes of awake:
Turn your GPS off when not required to avoid apps using that expensive location source
When you are finished using an app close it with the "back" button. This will terminate it and avoid background management
Don't use any auto killer apps. If there are apps you don't want to be started or cached freeze them or configure their auto-start properly
Don't use and power saving tools like Juice Defender or Green Power: most apps do not behave properly when they can't use the data connection and will generate overhead by trying
If you don't need Wifi turn it off: in some cases Wifi is known to cause wakeups and an overhead in e.g. location services"
I recommend you try freeze these apps or greenify (my personal choice) ... or change the sync settings ... or uninstall apps
If this troubleshooting does not work ...
I do recommend install a latest firmware (your favorite ROM stock stock pre rooted or custom) ... wipe format etc ... etc ... etc
Do a backup user apps and data ... etc ...
best regards
wakelocks
I have one gmail account and sync is on for like 10 mins a day.
I do have a dropbox account but I haven't actually logged into the app using my phone.
I don't use a case or any other protection for my phone home and the volume buttons are seldom pressed.
gps is switched off almost all the time but the other two options in location setting are on.
I always use packet data.
I have also greenified all third party applications except whatsapp and all the stock apps that I don't use have been frozen.
thanks for helping!
( I get a standby time of around 17-20 hours with a minimum on screen time of 5 hours . stock rom and kernel)

OK. This wakelock is absolutely killing my battery. My phone won't go into a deep sleep because of it.
I am running RomAur 3.7 with included kernel
Stamina Mode (Only whitelisted apps are SMS, Gmail, Twitter and Words with Friends)
Extended Standby
Despite the Stamina Mode, the wakelock persists.
Can someone please shed some light on this wakelock and what I can do to stop it? There have been a couple threads in the past about it, but no definitive answer to stop it. Thank you in advance for any assistance with the one thing that is stopping me from enjoying this excellent phone.
Google apps and social apps usualy kill your battery
Try removing those

[I9305] Endless war against wakelocks

I really love these AOSP KitKat roms but on every rom I get these crazy battery killing wakelocks. Everytime I manage to somehow block one wakelock, then after a while another appears.
I have tried like every way to block the wakelocks: Amplify, built-in wakelock blockers, Disable Services app etc but I always end up with new wakelock, its an endless war against these. Most of the wakelocks come from Google Play Services and I cant really live without Play Store so completely removing gapps is not an option for me. Im also using Xposed with Greenify on boost mode.
I can bring up some screenshots when the next wakelock makes its appearance, Im currently running on L-Droid v4.0 rom
These wakelocks make me miss my old Windows Phone, I cant really rely on my phone when it can suddenly run out of battery in my pocket anytime :crying:
Any tips and tricks on dealing with the wakelocks? Any help is appreciated at this point!
Here we go again, ffs.
....and BBS screenshot
Im now trying to get rid of this "mdm_hsic_pm0" wakelock by disabling fast dormancy with an app.
Most likely this wont solve a sh*t but hey, nothing is lost by trying right?
After adding this to the build.prop I yet havent witnessed that batterykilling wakelock which I mentioned in the last post. Will continue testing to see if it occurs again.
So as you can already guess: The wakelock appeared again.
I decided to give up on L-Droid rom and now Im switching over to LiquidSmooth's 3.2 milestone build, lets see how it happens with this rom too...
Maybe you should try different gapps package. Use Pico or nano version, and you could check different build dates. I'm not using KitKat anymore but remember that one of them with screwed up by Google service framework caused Wakelocks.

I have tried several different gapps I have gotten my hands on. Now Im using these latest Liquid KitKat gapps directly from their site and Im getting serious battery drain by wakelock called systemupdateservice so another gapps related wakelock. Even when the systemupdateservice is disabled in Disable Service app, it still continues to keep my phone awake 90-100% of the time. This is insane
When I disable the gapps with App Quarantine on this rom the battery life becomes normal, not a single wakelock is killing it.
Still it sucks to enable gapps, login back to my google account just to update my apps and then I have to disable them again.
Don't know is it present in your rom but in cyanogenmod you can disable certain app Wakelocks in privacy - advanced settings. You need to choose app which wake your device ie Google service and disable one of the Wakelock. There will be an information how many of them appears.

Been there done that, both roms had this feature built-in. Didnt solve anything, same wakelocks still remain.

Hey guys,
I have a huge battery drain (10% a night) and according to betterbatterystats I have a problem with "MQTT_CLIENT_CONNECT" from com.facebook.katana.Facebook.
What can I do? I want to keep the Facebook App and I also want to get notifications. Why is this app draining so much battery or keeping the device awake?

Facebook is the most notorious app when it comes to wakelocks. Wakelocks prevent deep sleep and therefore accelerate battery drain. The reason Facebook keeps the device awake is so it can still collect your information. If you want this to stop at night then disable syncing, do not use the widgets, and use the app greenify to make the app sleep better
