Yes, that is normal. It connects power and ground before connecting the data lines. If you are only using a wall charger, the data lines really aren't used for much anyway.

I bought the HDMI MHL Adapter from Monoprice, great price and stuff, but it doesn't seem to work right. For one the power cord doesn't fit good in the HDMI MHL Adapter, it seems like it can't go in far enough to snap and hold so it falls out a lot. Also it took many tries of unplugging and plugging in the phone to get it to work with it. It also has frozen my phone quite a few times, especially if I have the HDMI MHL Adapter hooked up and someone tries to call me. I bought this phone because I wanted to be able to play my movies on friends TVs when I go over their house, but this just doesn't seem to work.
Does anyone else have experience with the Monoprice HDMI MHL Adapter?
I think I'm just gonna buy the one from Samsung.
Thanks for the heads up. Just started shopping around for one.
Mine is on the way, I will let you know if I can make it work

I got mine to work after a long time of playing with it, also you can't move the phone at all because the power cord will keep falling out of the MHL adapter
Make sure you report it to monoprice. They listen. It may take awhile though.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
I can confirm this works 100%:

Silly question: I bought a similar one from newegg, but I don't know how to get it to work. For example I'm watching a youtube video on the phone, how do I make it output to the TV? (Of course I had it connected to it through an HDMI cable).
I got mine in the mail last night and it works just fine.
The regular samsung usb cable connected without problems.
Make sure to connect the power on the adaptor before connecting it to the phone.

As in yours, you mean the Monoprice one? It does work? mine has all sorts of problems. Your power cord fits in without it easily just falling out?

Yes, the Monoprice one. The power cord fits easily and stays there. No problems at all.
Just contact Monoprice, maybe you got a bad one.

Please do not Necro 2-year old threads, unless you have something more to offer to the discussion. Thank you.
My Flyer went dead a few days ago, I plugged it in and turned it on, but it immediately went dead. The orange light does not come on at all when plugged into either the wall or computer. I went through all threads on the forum on this issue and ended up charging the battery in a parallel circuit with an old cellphone. The Flyer came back to life, but still will not charge.
What part do I need to replace to fix this?
The USB plug is not loose but testing with a multimeter, I have been unable to find any current.
Is the controller for charging the battery on the same board as the USB plug?
There is a bundle of 4 red and 4 black wires leading from the USB board to the board where the battery connects. Should these wires be hot when it is plugged in regardless?
Any other ideas?
I have the same problem. I've been contemplating fixing it but I'm not sure what part commonly causes this problem

Darn, it just happened to my flyer, I tried 2 different cables. I love my flyer, having a hard time with just my nexus 7 now (not nearly as nice as the flyer except for size). Gotta buy a new one I guess, any pointers to deals?
Hello, I have a Note I717 and it worked fine until last night. The battery drained down as normal and when I went to plug in the charger cable it didn't show it as charging or make that noise when plugin in cable so I tried 3 other cables including the original cable and still doesn't recognize. I cleaned the port and battery connections and same thing. Sugestions? Do you guys think I have to change the Charging Port USB Flex cable?
Thanks!

I would try different cords, with different power supplies. If no combo works, it's time to replace your usb port. They are $16 bucks shipped on eBay. I replaced mine in 20 minutes. A member on here Shaneflashingdaily can change it in 5 minutes while flashing 100,000 roms!

that's 100,000 a year which equals 54 flashes a day, while changing a port in 5 minutes
Its a note i717 not note 2, I have both. Anyway I tried a lot of cables and chargers and nothing. I ordered the port and watched an excellent video on YouTube about installing it.
Thanks
I think you should replace the battery first before you do major surgery. Or at least charge the battery in an external charger to eliminate it.
Double check your new usb board with the original. Some here have been shipped the international note usb board by accident, and the parts are not interchangable.

just trying to narrow it down a bit. I mean if it charged on computer, then it wouldn't be the port or the cable. could have been the plug in or the outlet even.
and you post does say you have a "Note II I717". again, doesn't matter with this problem, but any other problems it might be a biiiig issue. with your post count and experience I am sure you know that.
just trying to help and narrow things down if possible.
good luck
All ideas and help is appreciated. Your right I did have II and fixed typo. Thanks!

Hello. Do you use original charger and cable? Try with quick charge switch on and off to see there is difference. Change the cable and charger to try. What ROM do you run?

Type c is expensive no doubt about that, in fact I had to pay 15,99 € for mine, atleast it's quality one with golden plugs on both sides. Not like that default piece of **** cable, which died after 5 charges.

Had this start happening to mine, figured it might be the cord, but it also no longer works with my Gear VR either. My screen was cracked so I sent it in for repair, hoping it comes back working.
