Downgrade from N to MM - Sony Xperia X Questions & Answers

I tried to flash (using flashtool) the latest MM firmware flashing went good until I turned on the phone.
I got a warning I thing it was (something (I fogot T_T))media has stopped then it started bootlooping. then I flashed back the N firmware found that it didn't erase what was on my phone like it use to do with the Z2;
So, is there any proper way to downgrade?
F5122 - 34.2.A.0.292 (unrooted//LB)

Try different MM FW , or try again same, I got bootloop also on first time, second time it worked and I was able to get DRM keys out. When you flashed did you checked eveything on Wipe Sin table?

When you do a downgrade you need to select everything in WIPE section. You can try leaveing the UserData unticked (hopefully it won't bootloop) but it would be safer to wipe it clean.

I'll keep this in mind next time, thanks.
I know it isn't the appropriate thread, but could you point me to some where that shows how I restore my DRM-Keys (I have backed them up, and I'm not rooted)

Try the dirtycow https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/universal-dirtycow-based-ta-backup-t3514236
I am using the kernel DRM fix since I nuked my keys first thing I got my phone.

CONFIRMATION OF TA RESTORE!
- Ran tool on Xperia X
- Unlocked bootloader
- Flashed TWRP
- Booted to system
- Got nag about being unsafe due to unlocked bootloader and wanted password. I don't have a pasword?? (nevermind)
- Booted back to TWRP (Also wants a password due to encrypted data - ignored!)
- Pushed TAbackup.img (I renamed it) to /data/local/tmp and verified md5sum is same as original backup.
- Did
Code:
adb shell dd if=/data/local/tmp/TAbackup.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/TA
- Rebooted
- Everything back as it was. Original TA restored and DRM keys all active:victory:

there is xperifirm standalone app, download it and try it

downloading and flashing MM
i have checking the Xperifirm , and unfortunately it seems as though Sony have removed it. i did however download and try the MM from (for TA backup): xperiarom.com/sony-xperia-x-f5121-stock-firmware-marshmallow-6-0-1-34-0-1-277/4-0-1-277/
the flash went successful, (apart from one or two warnings or something in Flashtool).BUT, i had the same waring as you, something along the line of "your device is corrupt, and may not function properly. press power button to continue."
after pressing it, it just showed blank screen. i then tired flashing the official firmware (Nougat) which i made using the Xperifirm and Flashtool. the same things happened, i got the warning message and a blank screen. thus i used Sony Companion software repair to restore and i'm back to crappy Nougat.
it would be good if i could have some more information on how you flashed it, or if someone can tell me how to flash properly. Maybe when flashing MM, i didn't check the wipe boxes (like that other guy mentioned in the thread, which i will try once i have free time). And it may be that the Nougat software created, was improper.
any information would be great, thanks!

You need to check the wipes except the TA wipe, I don't have flashtool on my work pc so, I'll update this with a screenshot the things you need to wipe before downgrading to MM;

dont forget to add script =-= and you must wipe everything to skip bootloop.

how to downgrade/flash MM (Marshmallow)
Thank you algnerd & max26292 for your guys help! really i appreciate it so much!
Here's what happened, as you guy said to basically select everything in the 'wipe section', i did so. but when it flashes a messages pop's up asking "A FSC script has been found 34.0.fsc. Do you want to use it?" (this is the script algnerd was talking about (which i had no idea at the start)) . i clicked on no, so the process finished (within a short time) i did this twice, and, it basically did nothing, it booted to Nougat as though i didn't touch it.
the 3rd time, when that messaged poped up, i click on yes (obviously after selecting everything in the 'wipe section')........the result.................................................................................... it worked!!!
heres the image of what i selected in Flashtool:
i.imgur.com/8PWMn8Z.png[/IMG]
and the message (the script):
i.imgur.com/EznIw0h.png[/IMG]
so what you need to do it press yes, simple, but time effective.
thanks guys again, it means a lot .

Trouble updating to 4.0.2.A.0.42 after flashing

Hello and merry xmas!
I had some trouble with my Neo phone, would not start and so after i tried to fix and flash it.
So i used the FlashTool_0.2.9.1_FOTAUnbrick to get it up again
i just connected the phone, and clicked flash, and it was up
But now it wants to update to 4.0.2.A.0.42, says only pc companion can do it. So i tried but got a error after a while. and it it bricked the phone again.. had to use flashtool to get up again.
Its up, but still wants to update to 4.0.2.A.0.42.
My phone WAS rooted before all trouble, and it worked fine for a long time, until the SE Neo launcher started to loop like crazy.
I also tried to root it again, both with superoneclick, and Flashtool-0.5.0.0.
And once i tried the Repair phone by pc companion, it starts to download.. but at the end, it says it cant, and bricking my phone (again)...
What now?? Would really have the latest software as i had, and to install my titanium backup pro to get all things as they was... or can i forget it?
Try updating it with SEUS !

Hi,
I am not sure how to get it into recovery mode. I googled, and it only gave some Cm 7 recover mode. Sorry, pretty new at this :-/
But have not tried factory reset. Hope it will help.. Or it will "delete/brick" my ROM again..
I just do not understand how it got downgraded after all this trouble, and my failed flashing.

Factory reset made it only start looping on and off with "sony ericsson" on the screen...
4.0.2.A.0.42
flash it manually with flashtool, will fix all problems.
So this is what i have for now:
Factory reset = bricked.. did not worked
Flashing failed at userdata with Flashtool = Bricked
But i manage to get it running again by flashing it with loader.sin with FlashTool_0.2.9.1_FOTAUnbrick.
Android 2.3.4 - Build number 4.0.1.A.0.283 - Up and running
OTA says it wanna download 4.0.2.A.0.42 = (but it did not download 165 mb as SEUS below here says) Downloaded pretty fast (i have only 2MB line), asked me to install. Clicked install, phone reboots, and failed. It Says: Could not install new software version, try again. I retried 3 times. same error. But not bricked this time.
Installed SEUS v.2.11.12.9 , doing a Update as recommended by program (not the Update and factory reset), downloading 165,2 MB (takes time.. OTA was done in 2 minutes seconds, so something wrong there)
But Success with updating with SEUS !
But phone is not rooted anymore. And i'm not sure i wanna do it... thou my Titanium backups is very tempting :-/
Can someone tell me if i need more then a rooted phone to use WOTAN flash tool?
Cus it is always stops halfway with an error.
I currently have 2.3.4 - build 4.0.2.A.0.42
I also tried other flash tools, same error..

No you don't need an unlocked bootloader to use wotan, just register download the wotan client and use your registration details to login and flash
I did try that, and it always fails at flashing userdata (number 9 i think), then i brick phone.
And the i always have to use FlashTool FOTAUnbrick and loader.sin to get it up and running again.
I also tried flashtool with 2.3.4 ROM..same error.. fails after a while and brick it..
strange !

Thanks, but that's the one i already have for unbricking my phone.
My bootloader is not unlocked, so i do not understand.
What i did today was i tried to use Wotan, selected ROM, it's starting the flashing, and fails on userdata.
I disconnected phone, started it, and its bricked.. (shows the triangle with phone in-front of it.)
I start up FlashTool_0.2.9.1_FOTAUnbrick as administrator, click on flash, load loader.sin, connect phone, it takes 5 sec, it says its done, and phone up again.
Of course all userdata is gone, i have to restore all kind of apps from titanium backup and so..
Phone is ok.... but many apps keeps on crashing. For example sms, dialer and so.. until i restore i older backup from titanium, but it lasts only a day or two after using, so i have to repeat it often. That's why i wanna install a fresh ROM all over again.
I am pretty new at this, but learned a lot last weeks by failing
I may be wrong but to me this sounds like you may have broke the bootloader.
Have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252019 from the arc forum.

[ROOT][Locked BL][STOCK] FULL Root for 4.3 (14.2.A.0.290) C6833 and C6802

Thanks @[NUT] for finding the way of rooting 4.3 with locked BL. Since nobody makes one for Z Ultra, I will do it.
This is a flashable ROM extracted from stock 14.2.A.0.290 without ANY modification.
The only 2 things added are FULL ROOT and XZDualRecovery.
This method is copied and modified from @[NUT] 's Z1 ROM
Requirements:
Flashtool 0.9.13 by @Androxyde
XZDualRecovery 2.7.71 BETA or newer.
Current rooted FW version: 14.1.B.1.532 OR 14.1.B.2.257 (rooted).
note: 257 is not tested on Z Ultra yet.
In the following guide I suggest you use an external SDCard but that's just good practice, you can use your internal storage or even an USB OTG storage device in TWRP if you like to install, that's no problem!... If you are modding and the likes, best is to have an external sdcard, just for safeties sake.
C6802: How to update to 14.2.A.0.290:
This should work for C6833, too. But you will lose 4G.
WARNING:
As the 'update' part of this ROM package does not work yet:
THIS GUIDE WILL DESTROY ALL USERDATA!
For C6802: Download C6802_14.2.A.0.290.jackie099.flashable.zip (C6833_14.2.A.0.290.jackie099.flashable.zip if u have C6803)and C6802_14.2.A.0.290_Stripped.ftf, save them somewhere you remember;
Put 'C6802_14.2.A.0.290.jackie099.flashable.zip' on (the external) SDcard1;
Put 'C6802_14.2.A.0.290_Stripped.ftf' inside the Flashtool/firmwares folder;
Create a backup of your phone in CWM or TWRP and don't forget to backup the contents of 'SDCard0';
To prevent bootloops:
Flash XL39h-C6802_4.2.2-14.1.B.1.532.ftf firmware, please use the newest flashtool, or brick.
root it with Vroot, and install Supersu to replace vroot's permission manager.
Flash XZDualRecovery 2.7.71 (from PC)
In TWRP -> Wipe -> advanced Wipe Tick/Check:
Dalvik-Cache
System
Cache
Data
Internal Storage
Swipe to Right to do the factory reset
After that Click Format Data -> type yes
Flash 'C6802_14.2.A.0.290.jackie099.flashable.zip' or 'C6833_14.2.A.0.290.jackie099.flashable.zip' in TWRP
NOTE: do not reboot but go back to the main menu, then go to reboot->power off;
Flash everything in 'C6802_14.2.A.0.290_Stripped.ftf';
Now reboot to system.
Check Supersu, and u are rooted!
Hit Thanks or donate me if you think my work is useful for you!
Thank you for this! Much appreciated!
Just to let you know - both of your link (C6802_14.2.A.0.290_Stripped.ftf,) points to the wrong file.
I have been using NUT's 4.3 root guide for other Z-devices, but when trying with my Z Ultra it wouldn't work. I tried going from a rooted generic .532 to generic .290 created according to NUT's guide. I had success on Tablet Z and Z1 but not Z Ultra. I have a C6833.

After looking at XZDualRecovery 2.7.71 I think this will work
DONT TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS
1/ flash either my BE Rom or DoggRom
2/ DON'T reboot yet, go to advanced/ power off (CWM) [or back to the main menu, then go to reboot->power off (TWRP)]
3/ start flash tool / select Flash / Flashmode
4/ select .290 ftf
5/ deselect wipes (done on install or Rom), exclude everything but kernel and then flash
6/ Reboot
7/ run XZDualRecovery 2.7.71 from pc
Will this work @hamdogg, @jackie099 ???

maybe that should have read:
5/ deselect wipes (done on install of Rom) [Top Box]
5a/ exclude everything but kernel [Middle Box]
5c/ and then flash
at that stage it should boot on a locked bootloader with partial root access, then running XZDualRecovery would give full root and recoveries - It's my belief that our roms wont boot on a locked bootloader as is?

I charged. I was previously using Honami MW HD™ V8 .. with nemesis 6.3.. I don't know why this happened. I have flashed several different ROMs earlier but no problem like this whatsoever occurred.
Oh and also, when i first flashed the ROM last night, I was using an older version of Flashtool. But then later i downloaded the latest version and flashed with it too but the result was still the same.

I would think it's the fact you did not clear data so you can try just that (exclude everything and just leave all clear options checked) or do full flash.

There 2 choices:
Have the data and not be able to use the phone.
Or, lose the data and be able to use your phone.
Up to you which you choose.
It's not like you didn't know it is advised to back up your data before flashing ROM

Try to flash the kernel you had, and perhaps the ROM too without wiping data, it's a long shot but nothing to lpse other than your time.
BTW what data are you worried about, some may be backed up on your google account.

I did flash Nemesis 6.3 but still the phone won't start. And I can't reach CWM even after flashing it but CWM is supposed to be installed along with the kernel. Why can't I go to CWM?
I'm worried about the pictures. I won't be able to recover them cuz I never really synced with google

You are not the first one to worry about it that's why I asked.
And it would be a good idea to backup your phon regularly

Z5 Compact in a Bootloop after MM Update

Hello, I am worried about my phone, after the last minor Marshmallow update, My phone worked correctly for about 5 hours, then it shutted down, and when I turned it on, I found out it was in a Bootloop.
Had no new apps installed or even downloaded files from the Internet.
My phone is just 4 days old, so this have me worried.
Have looked for solutions online, but no option is working, even tried the Software Repair by Xperia Companion three times and is still in the Bootloop. Please can somebody help? It keeps just showing the Sony logo. No USB Debugging activated.
I have read also that Putting it in Recovery mode and doing a Hard Reset may help, but no button combination seems to put it in Recovery mode. I am Desperate.
Hey, don't worry - I'm sure we can fix this
First, install 5.1.1 using this method:
http://xperiafirmware.com/8-firmware/126-sony-xperia-z5-compact-e5823
Do only point 2 ! (Also wipe all data during instalation via Flashtool)
Get back to me if this helped, try updating to 6.0 again after installing 5.1.1, if it bootloops again, just install 6.0 straight away. But please, install 5.1.1 first, I want to find out if it's a repeatable problem.

Thanks for the info! But when the flash is finishing, this error pops out:

10/022/2016 09:22:35 - INFO - For flashtool, Unknown Sources and Debugging must be checked in phone settings
Have you checked (selected) all wipe data options during flashing?
If so, just try installing 6.0 using the method from the link in my previous post. (This time only do point 1 )
Is your bootloader unlocked / are you rooted?

Yes, selected to wipe all data, and nothing seems to work.
Locked Bootloader and Unrooted .
Also tried with another FTF, and all of them throw the same error.
Are you sure that tfts were downloaded completely? Check the integrity of the file with Winrar or other archiving software.
Otherwise, I'm running out of ideas. If you have your warranty, try going with that since you've not violated the rules of the limited warranty by unlocking the bootloader/rooting.

At first i used 0.9.20.0, but then i read that this version was faulty and was causing the error; so i downloaded again 0.9.18.6 and it threw out the same error, so I quit with it, and will ask for a replacement.

Please post how things went - especially if you are rooted (?), as its easy to end up unrooted at times.
OTA is failing for me after unrooting. I also restored the latest restore.img from the relevant thread before I attempted to update.
Anyone with root able to get OTA installed?

Did you have to unroot before updating ?
Never-mind had to unroot it would not work otherwise. But still wont finish - maybe because i may still have a different then stock kernel even though I unrooted.

You need to unroot, and also make sure you have the reserve.img partition restored. If you unlocked the bootloader after the .27 OTA, reserve.img is deleted during unlock.

All I have to do is to not screw up, and after having been on Samsungs since S3, where most things were straight forward and relatively easy, there is a good chance I will.
Will be doing more reading - wish there was a guide like the unlocking and rooting of the US TMo guide thread.

It's very simple, and the script does most of the work. All you have to do is hit Enter a few times, and let it run.
Back up your data to be safe, and worse case scenario, there is an MSM tool available that will restore the phone to stock.

Use Google Drive backup, but you should first temporarily turn off your password/fingerprint authentication. That's the only way to ensure a complete backup is run. That's been an issue with Google device backup as a whole since 9.0 began enforcing encryption on backups.
You can turn it back on as soon as the backup completes.
One thing I've noticed already on this update is idle battery drain with 5G enabled (connected or not) has improved dramatically.
I would suggest that anyone who re-roots after makes sure to use a freshly patched kernel pulled after the update.
