Hi,
I am looking to update my XT1527 to Marshmallow with a custom rom. However, i have a big confusion going on and i have never done this before. It's starting to scare me, because it seems quite easy to lose a device by sheer bad luck. SO, my confusion begins on what should i do first, and what is the correct way to do it. My device as of now is on all factory settings.
So, what should i do? In what order? What will i need? Is it such a delicate and dangerous thing? Should a beginner really do this?
Detailed explaination is appreciated.
Bye.

Sorry, there are just too many threads, and I can't find a definitive answer via the search.
I just did an APK root on my X10.
I have never installed a ROM on an Android, and I'm not only having trouble doing it, I'm having trouble finding a ROM.
Is there a base Android ROM available, with instructions on how to install the ROM onto the phone.
When I say instructions, I mean made for a real dead **** with a tendency of screwing things up.
Help?
There are no custom Roms yet.

Hey guys, I really want to strip all the google apps and the samsung apps from a rom. Get it down to a cyanogen level. The stock rom is Odin but I can make a recovery rom.
I don't expect anyone to waste their time spoon feeding me and I am honestly too stupid and busy to learn. What I am looking for is a close to zero learning curve way of stripping a rom.
Is it possible and how?
P.S.
And yes, someone has already done it but they are gone and the links are dead.
Please, someone with more experience correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you just find a core version of Gapps.zip that is compatible with your kernel, boot to recovery, format system partition, then flash the Gapps?

That sounds feasible. Though I think there are unofficial apk that you can just install rather than have to flash an update. I know cyanogen do that.
Did a lot of searching and got three good leads.

Last one is a bit much, don't want to risk dependency issues.
Greetings all!
For a long time I have sought to root my phone, but of all the Galaxy variants, this one is locked down tighter than Fort Knox!
I've read a ton but still many people leave out so much in there posts I can't quite keep up with the jargon....
Goal:
I want to use Wanam Exposed and Hidden Settings.
Additionally, I would like to have the option to flash custom ROM*S* in the future.
First:
Just because I root does that mean I have an unlocked bootloader?
Safestrap vs. TWRP. I barely understand what these are...
SO!
Which root method should I use to accomplish this? Can you please fully explain each step instead of directing me to ten other pages which detail how to download things? That gets overwhelming extremely quickly...
I would GREATLY appreciate it!!!

Thank you! Clearest directions yet.
So flashing a kernel is just... downloading a file and doing the steps detailed in Odin?
And Odin is specific to Samsung devices....
Once rooted, can I flash back to NK1? I know an issue with performing rooting can be that some functions will not work afterwards (namely wifi).
Also:
How will security change after rooting?
Galaxy
After searching for some time, this finally helped me jailbreak my device. Thank you so much

That's never a good way to ask. Don't blame others just because you didn't got any answers. Sometimes you gotta understand why it's not possible to get CFW for everything....the devs have to make it first which is easier said than done.
Hi- I'm trying to help a friend recover some accidentally-deleted photos from internal memory, and unfortunately it seems that I need root access to image that. She's running VS9854BA, and none of the rooting methods I've found so far seem to support it. I tried Kingroot as a last resort as well, but it wasn't able to successfully root, either.
Are there any other options besides downgrading the OS to a more exploitable version? I would just proceed with that, but I'm worried about the downgrade putting too much churn on the disk and overwriting the areas we're trying to recover from.
Can anyone suggest any other options?
thanks in advance!

No. Downgrading is the only option, but only if you don't have revision 2 hardware along with a "K" variant, which if memory serves, is indicated underneath the battery beside the tiny VS985 such as VS985WK.
If there's a K anywhere after the VS985, then you can't downgrade at all (would likely brick it), and therefore no root.

Bummer. I had previously checked for a K after reading as much as I could from you and the other very helpful forum members, so I knew we were ok there, but now I feel a bit better about not being able to find any documentation on rooting that particular version.
Anyway, despite the bad news, thanks again for the help with this!
