Running Resurrection Remix on this phone RAM amount showing 1808 MB in about phone
It supposed to have 2 gigabytes wondering why the full 2 gigabytes are not available.
RAM is shared betwen system and GPU. Like on integrated desktop solutions, like AMD APUs.
background services and the phone takes up ram, you cant clear it

by default it's the same everywhere
All memories are like that. Check your SD. It's not exact too. The reason is because it is counted base 2 rather than base 10.

It's actually rounded. Selling point goes like this, it's better to say 2 GB of RAM that. 1.8 GB.

Does this phone on alien with optimized ram, use the full one gig or no, cause i know it was 512 before and you could only use full gig once in webtop?

Uhhh what? Pretty sure every ATRIX uses 1 gig of ram all the time.

It uses like 750megs all the time and 250 is reserved just for the OS I believe.

The whole 1 gig of ram is used when it is needed. The random access memory is just what it sounds like. Applications and running processes grab and store data for quick random access. Even after a fresh boot you will never see more than 300 mbs of ram free. But to answer your question-- yes the whole gig of ram is there, and it is being accessed by the system rom and other applications/processes.
I have been so busy catching up with all the amazing stuff Da_G has been pumping out (thanks!) that I didn't even take a look at this until now. I am showing that we only have 733MB of avaliable RAM. That is a far cry from 1024MB.
I am seeing 733MB w/ both Android System Info and with the built-in Task Manager.
Does anyone know if we indeed have 1024MB of RAM and... if it is just assigned else where?
Yes we have 1GB every phone has RAM missing because the system is holding it.
I remember one time the OS didn't support that much not sure if that's the case now but the phone has 1GB to my knowledge and.what I've read

I have also read that is has 1GB everywhere, but missing 291MB seems like an awful lot.
I beleive my Atrix showed 897MB. I just seems like an awful lot 'mssing' w/ the Note.

I noticed the same, it's showing short but using the same app(system tuner pro) on my G2 it showed the correct 512mb.
It's not false marketing; it's fact. There is 1GB of RAM in the phone. I'm pretty sure the rest of the RAM is used by the GPU. My GS2 has the same thing, shows about 800MB of RAM available to apps.
What does it matter? I usually have 3-500MB of free RAM. Have you ever managed to fill the RAM with processes? Do you know anyone who has? Android clears old apps from memory even when there is enough free so I have never even come close to filling my RAM.
Graphics memory
As with any computer your phone has a gpu which needs graphics memory and because the gpu is integrated (SOC) it takes its memory off the top. This can be seen with any computer you have with integrated graphics it will section off some memory for your gpu.
As for the flash memory space many issues can take it down such as the file system, operating system, it just depends but trust me before the phone was turned on and android installed it had 16gb of memory and 1gb of ram
I'm about 100% CPU and GPU can't share ram as they do completely different tasks. They could have just added the cram and the ram to get 1GB though... But otherwise, the missing ram is from system tasks and the OS.

Do we have a reference or any proof of this?
And to the post directly above this, any computer that does not have a dedicated graphics card uses shared system memory, just like our phones. 733MB is just quite a bit away from 1024MB.
they can and do use the same memory because they are the same soc aka system on chip. all this is integrated.
So if you built a PC yourself and loaded it with 2gig RAM and booted into windows it would have 2 gig FREE memory?

I am not talking about FREE. I am talking about the system as a whole. Do we really have 1GB of RAM? Where it is being used I am not so concerned about at this point, but it may help us figure out if we do indeed have 1GB (Where is the remaing 291MB assigned).
The missing 291 is being used by android..to load the launcher Widgets and everything else in the background.

i have international version of note.its same way on this one.the missing ram is held by system tasks.as for 16gb storage memory.if you wipe all area on usb storage .u will have 16gb but not a working phone.another thing about free ram.dont use task manager to stop apps.all it does is make the phone lag.leave everything running.

You have 300-500 MB FREE ram? My note is bone stock and I'm running at 400/700 MB RAM (meaning 300 MB free). This is also when I "Clear memory" too. Something wrong with my apps?

I have 700 free. With just 2 home screens 2 Widgets and a few apps and live wallpaper.

Two dozen open apps on mine right now, and it shows 283 MB used, 302 MB free.
On my AT&T gs2 I consistantly show 830 to 850 MB free. On my note I only see a lil over 700. How can this have less ram than my gs2? I have over 80 app on my gs2 and less than half that on my note!!!

Hi, I bought XS quiet some 20 days back and out of curiosity I installed phone tester to check. The results showed was only 700 mb for ram, whereas as per the spec it need to be 1gb. can someone help out on this...

ok BASICALLY this happens with ALL android devices. The operating software takes up some ram on it's own for example on htc devices the sense ui takes up ram and on samsung it is touchwiz. No matter how many roms you use you will never be able to see the full capacity of the ram, apps on multitasking also cause ram numbers to lower. Generally a sign of a low ram number means more battery is being used but it is nothing to worry about

Your RAM is OK.
Android uses a lot of cache but uses it dynamically.
If you want to see a bit more free RAM clear the caches for big apps.
If you "free" more RAM your phone may even get slower, because the system is using it to speed up processes.
I'm betting some of you have a Nexus 7, did you notice that the free ram is about 950MB out of the the Gig that it comes with?
Why do our phone only have like 720MB available if the tablet has so much more?
Both the tablet and our phones have 1 gig, so what gives?

Of that one gig of ram there is firm ware and the OS and some preloaded apps on the Nexus 7 on your phone it is about the same but with a skinned UI and then the carriers bloatware on top of that. It all takes up ram, so no bloatware or skinned UI gives you more ram on your Nexus 7.:good:

If i'm running a custom rom on my phone with straight AOSP why does the available ram on my phone stay at 720mb like stock?

Its full ram is used to play apps and games on your Nexus 7.
Also...the nexus tablet doesn't have a cell antenna...So no mobile data to keep track of, those services are running on your phone all the time
A friend of mine bought At&t Galaxy S3 and it suppose to have 2gb Ram but when i check the phone it show 1.6GB ram and only 1.03gb available. so i guess it is used by system or graphic or something. Just like the computers that doesn't have dedicated graphic card so if your computer has 4gb ram you would have 3gb ram available the rest is reserved for graphic. i am just assuming that the same this is happening to our phone. if i remember correctly when i had CM9 and when i went to setting, about phone it showed only 768mb instead of 1gb.

Yeah, i'm sure your right, its reserved for video and whatnot, but why doesn't the Nexus 7 need that video ram used up? It's got a pretty fast video chip too...
My only gripe with the Note is the 1GB of ram. You only have about 350mb available and as we all know, Android caches stuff you run, but most of the time your not holding many apps in that free 350MB so its always restarting apps anyways. This phone (any ICS phone really) needs 2gb of ram.
I've used the S3 and yeah, its super snappy because so much more stays in all that extra active ram... Samsung saw the light and added extra ram, I hope this is a new trend... How do we get a 2gb chip soldered in place of the 1gb chip

I'm not giving up my Galaxy Note's huge screen Hoping the Note 2 gets 2gb of ram
Our phones are deliberately under-clocked to 716, some may say it's for the battery life but I think it's because the higher clock speeds lead to shorter phone life. Using custom kernels, you can clock back up or even overclock. The payment is made mostly in battery life, but if your ROM has a memory leak of even the smallest size, overclocking will open the dam and the phone will suffer for it. Also, the phone will run at a higher temperature, which for sure will end its life much faster than leaving it at 716. This is the way I feel about overclocking: If you get the performance you want, leave it alone.

Apps are continuously closing and having to be relaunched (slower). Back in the older days of android where apps were 20-30mb it wasn't a huge deal, but some of these new games/apps take up well over 100mb of ram. everything else in the background is closed as it needs to make room..
Would be nice to have more active app space for a much smoother "multitasking" experience.
Sounds like we need a high speed dev to create some software to access the SD card and use it as ram....
Is that even possible ????...Hmmmmmm

Are you running more than one game that takes 100+ MB of RAM at a time? Do you jump from one game to another in the middle of action?
Sounds like you want to just want to be able to adjust your LMK settings. I don't believe there is kernel that lets you do that yet, but I'm sure there will be eventually.

not quite.. SDs speed of 20-30MB/s is a far cry from the 1GB of LPDDR2 "333Mhz?"in our note with a transfer rate of 5,333MB/s
I had Galaxy s2 with 821MB of RAM and i know that every app (not game) was eats about 20-50MB of RAM
I was sure that xperia z2 with 3GB of RAM it's more than enough but the reality is different
I see that any app in my Z2 is eats about 80-120MB! But why?
OK, maybe i know, because of tha resolution difference (in s2 800X480)

It uses more RAM because it can. In your S2, the OS had to ration what ram the device had between what the OS needed and what each app wanted, plus saved a bit for cached processes so overall everything would feel snappy. With 3GB of RAM, the OS has a lot more room to spread out, so it does.
Think of it like this, if your family lived in a 2 bedroom apartment, then moved into a 4 bedroom house, you wouldn't leave 2 rooms empty. Either people that didn't have a room to themselves would use them, or you would find other uses for them. Android is doing the same thing with the RAM.
You have 3GB, don't worry about how much RAM is being used, ignore it and enjoy your phone

I'm looking for a more accurate explanation for this fact
I'm from these users them uninstalling system apps and care to run with minimal battery drainage.
So, not received exact reason for eating the amount of memory unlike in galaxy s2

I was run with galaxy s2 on 400MB of free RAM and maybe 250 when running browser+gps+poweramp
This is not windows xp, its android and its healthy to have ram used rather than being free.
