Today I tried to use my phone as a mobile hotspot and couldn't get things to work fully. My laptop would connect via wifi but would not connect to the internet and my phone didn't show any connected devices. I tried tethering with similar results.
About three years ago this worked just fine on my phone when I needed to use it last time. The main differences now is I am using windows 10 and newer version of android. Build G900TUVU1GPE1 of the stock firmware. I do have it rooted using the Odin method described in another thread. Also I am on the 30$ t-mobile plan from Walmart if that matters at all.
With this information is there anything else I can do to make the my phone work as a hotspot?

I just flashed my friend's i5500 with CyanogenMod 7, latest release, and I'm having difficulties with the wifi. He has the i5500 from Virgin Mobile.
We can't connect to any wireless network anymore, I tried several basebands. Does the baseband makes a difference for the wifi?
Everytime we try to connect, it says either not in range (as it cannot see the wireless network), or it tries to connect and quickly says disabled.
The router is an AirPort Extreme (oh the irony), also tried to connect with another router, still same issue. We tried with a couple of other Android phones (some with CM7) and it doesn't work.
We had a similar problem using a stock 2.2 ROM from the US, so I'm pretty sure it's the baseband.
What baseband do you recommend for a Canadian I5500?
Thanks!
Hi Guys. I posted in the HTC One X (non +) and then noticed this separate forum. Sorry for the repeat.
My company just gave me an HTC One X+ from AT&T since I didnt want an iPhone. Seems like a good device but I did run into one snag.
My previous phone was a Galaxy S2 but was having major battery drain issues with Exchange Server so I thought I would try a different manufacture and keep my fingers crossed. The snag is this: with my SGS2 I was able to use FoxFi (and others) for WiFi tethering/hotspot and it worked great even bone-stock. With the HOX+ it seems At&t has gotten a little smarter and can detect when a program is trying to hotspot and I get taht message saying to call them if I want it enabled when I start FoxFi.
I have the paid version of clockworkmod and that will not work at all - says failed to connect when I hit start in Windows 7. I also have the paid version of PDAnet and that kind of works but the connection get dropped pretty regularly making it unreliable. Not sure if this has anything to do with Att's detections since they did gave me some trouble with the SGS2 as well (not exactly same though).
My question is this: can I get FoxFi to work WITHOUT root? Since it is brand new and not mine technically I hate to start hacking the thing up so quickly. But the tethering is a function I really like.
Thanks
Ernie
My phone is rooted, FoxFi and PDAnet didn't work..
I'm using this one :

I'm notl 100% sure but i dont think you'll be able to get what you want without being rooted. I'm surprised you had such good luck with the GS2 if it was on att and not rooted. Previous poster did suggest a great tool, been using it for years... But have to be rooted to do so
I don't believe you can actually get WiFi tethering on your phone without paying the extra amount from AT&T if you don't have your phone rooted. I have mine rooted and the hotspot feature works great!
Thanks guys. Thats what I figured. Guess I will have to just do it.
Ya, go figure about the S2. Guess I got lucky with that one.

I just got my HTC One x plus, and I am using PDAnet (free version), and I am able to tether via USB, with no issues. I have been able to do skype calls with no issues at all, browsing the web is fine as well. Tethering via wi-fi is the challenge, I have not been able to find anything that will allow me to do this. I use AT&T and my device is un-rooted.

PDANet works for me but seems to drop me at randomly. Not sure if it has to do with the ATT block.
So does Att have the ability to detect teathering - rooted or unrooted?

with wi-fi and un-rooted, it seems they detect, with USB un-rooted they don't, at least, this is what happens on my end.
I recently changed over from Verizon to Net10 and have been pretty happy with the results. I went out and picked up two i777's and a SIM card for each. I'm running on AT&T and the service is way faster than my old phone (DINC). I have one slight problem and I've been searching for days on here and loogle... everything on the phone works except for the wifi tethering. It's a really weird issue... sometimes I can get it to work after I reboot the phone, other times I'm not so lucky. My i777 is running JellyBam v4.1 (JB 4.1.2) with Siyah v7.6.9. I know that the newer ROM versions (JB 4.2.1) have wifi tethering issues.(or at least JellyBam v5.1 did - it's documented on their forum) So I flashed back to JB 4.1.2 and I've had the wifi tethering work for me a few times, but more often than not, my laptop/tablet/etc will connect to my phone but with a limited connection - no internet. Everything on the phone looks normal, for example, it pops up with the notification for wifi tethering is now on. And I really don't think its a ROM issue. I was wondering if its an issue with the APN I'm using. Is anyone else on Net10 having issues with wifi tether??? Also I haven't tried using a different tethering app... I would prefer to use the stock tethering app. Sorry if this has been addressed already, I tried searching before I posted. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Not sure I can help too much since I'm not on Net10, but perhaps try switching kernels first. Siyah 5 should work for 4.1.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650948
Also, post your APNs?

Thanks, I'll try siyah 5.
APN
name - net10
APN - wap.tracfone
port - 80
mmsc - http://mmsc.cingular.com
mms proxy - 66.209.11.32

Good call, I should have posted that before.
Flashed siyah 5 and so far so good. I'll keep testing throughout the day. Thanks for the reply. I feel stupid though, I should have tried that before. Appreciate the help. I'll post up later if anything changes

I have had the same problem with my TMOB galaxy note 2 using a net 10 sim card. I connected to google a couple times on my laptop, but won't go to any other webpages unassociated with google search. What do you suggest?
Warning do not run wifi thether on Net10 AT&T sims

My data was disconnected after I tried running my wifi tether on Net10 bring your own phone. I have a rooted Motorola Atrix 4G using a AT&T sim. I was told it was because I used all my data but here is what I wrote them and how responded.
Me,
I had my Net10 phone just over a week and my data was turned off. I know for a fact that I did not use 1.5 gb of data because I have a data usage app on my phone. I think I was disconnected because I tried using a wifi tether app. If that is why I was disconnected then I should be told that and not that I used all my data package. If this is not resolved I will be discontinuing service
Net10,
I checked your account and your data service has been suspended due to violation of sections 6 and 7 of our Terms of Service. Tethering is prohibited and that's the reason why your data has been suspended. Your data will be restored at a reduced speed 24 hours after an Airtime card is added on your Service End Date. To better understand why your data speed has been suspended, please call this hotline number 1-866-793-0474. This is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Thanks.
Thank you for your patience, while we respond to your inquiry.

I have used the standard wifi tether app and I have the full version of pdanet+
tethering connects to phone with limited connection, no internet.
Would really like a solution to this problem.

You have T-Mobile Galaxy S4 and you're asking for a solution to your problem in the AT&T Galaxy S2 forum?
Re read my post.
My phone is unlocked.
I am using at&t sim.
As a matter of fact I switched to at&t gophone today.
Net10 at&t is strictly limited to 1.5gb data, so I'm using gophone smartphone $60 plan, which gives you 2gb, plus you can buy more data at $10 per 1GB

Hello! Let me begin by saying that if just up and buy an Android NET10 phone from a retail outlet, hotspot and tethering are disabled by the carrier and are 'carrier-locked', so this solution may not work for you. This reply is for BYOP users and others with an 'unlocked' phone. (There ARE Net10 ONLINE retailers who sell unlocked phones under the BYOP program.)
The fact that AT&T/NET10 found out you were tethering (and why the OP can't connect) may be because you're trying to tether a Windows PC by means of an Android phone. Windows IP packets have a time-to-live (TTL) of 128ms by default, while Linux and Android packets have a TTL of 64ms. That TTL difference, to them, constitutes a dead giveaway that you're tethering. I guess their network detects this condition, and either alerts them to you, denies you the tethered connection, or both. As for PDANet, CWM Tether (that reminds me - I need my $5 back), and other such utilities, I guess the latest Android versions broke them all.
Try tethering on a Linux Live CD. Dollars to pig pills (doughnuts) says that both of you can now tether without detection or problems. Why? Because for all they know, they'll think you're just using data on the phone....
By stumbling onto this nugget on my own, I now realize how I tethered without any grief for YEARS on Verizon by using a Windows Mobile 3G phone and Windows boxes. I never heard a single word from them about it.
Why did they never catch on? I discovered that it was because of the fact that WM and Windows IP packets have the same TTL. Again, they had no idea that I was tethering instead of surfing the Web on the phone. Same thing with AT&T and the others, I suppose...
Fortunately, a registry hack will change the default TTL on a Windoze box to 64ms - the same as Linux or an Android phone. Here's the URL describing the hack: http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/885/
My phone ain't a Samsung, so I guess this'll work for any Android phone. This worked like a champ to solve my own dilemma, but, as a disclaimer, YMMV.
You're welcome...

Hello all, I'm hoping someone can shed a little light on an "interesting" problem I'm having with my new phone. This may be my first post on here, but I have scoured this and other forums trying to come up with an answer but alas have found nothing, so here goes:
I am currently using Simple Mobile which operates on T Mobile's network. I have near-perfect signal at home but can't seem to use the damned thing for Facebook, Tapatalk, Zynga games, internet, etc without my interent connection timing out on me. I recently switched from Comcast to Dish Network and no longer have wifi at home so this is killing me.
This phone screams on wifi, and it seemingly works fine everywhere else via my data connection except at home. I normally show an H or an E at home. From what I understand T Mobile is replacing all of its edge circuits with HSPA+, so I'm thinking they just haven't got around to upgrading the tower closest to my house as of yet. I decided to get my girlfriend prepaid service on T Mobile with that $30 per month 5GB plan through Walmart and slapped the sim in my old Motorola Defy and it works great. However, if I put that same sim in my phone I'm back to square one with the same data connection problems, so I know this is not a problem with Simple Mobile (plus like I said as long as I am not at home my phone works well, too.).
So here's the real kicker -- if I use the PDANet+ app on my phone and turn on the wifi hotspot, it works just fine when I connect using my home desktop computer! This is so aggravating, why would I time out with my data connection for my own phone but as a hotspot it work flawlessly??? I'm pretty close to giving up on T Mobile because what good are they if I can't get a data connection on the phone itself at home?
Also I should mention that all of the APN settings are definitely correct. Perhaps there is a baseband selection that I can't find somewhere in the Blu Studio 5.0 d530 that may help (I know there's one in the Motorola Defy). Maybe it's because T Mobile recognizes that my phone is not a T Mobile branded phone (but the Defy IS), and if so, how can they push the whole "bring your own phone" thing so hard?
In any event, I may try just switching to Straight Talk but I really don't want to go through the hassle of porting my number and all that -- plus I'm not sure how good their signal is in my area. A search online for closest cell towers to my address results in T Mobile by a longshot.
Any help is appreciated, guys -- I'm frustrated to no end here.
blu studio 5.0
hey guys I did something terrible to my phone.. good thing rooted it /custom rom android pissing on a apple splash screen on net 10 network. all was good well till my mms stop sending and receiving pic.. got frustrated trying to fix the problem with customer service ..anyway was trying to reset phone and take custom rom off, every time I reset it same splash screen rom and no mms...so I went in to recovery mode delete all files sytem every thing....bad move.. put phone into usb mode installed new rom complete that.. rebooted it and jus sits on on blu logo screen...cricket has my phone for the weekend to try and get it back working.. but , in the event they can't fix it--is there any thing I can do to restore it.. can't use odin or aio wont show port numbers ..omg..help please ..thanks in advance ps.after installing new rom and rebooted it said root is missing?idk
http://www.stockrom.net/2014/01/download-stock-rom-para-blu-studio-50.html
Use Google Translate, if needed. Basically it just says that is the stock 4.1.2 rom with no carrier bloat.
So My old galaxy S4 with cyanogenmod which tethered unlimited without a problem broke last week when I tried to replace the screen and destroyed the digitizer.
I bought this J327p and now my primary source of internet is gone with the tethering limitations.
If I can't get this to work I am returning it tonight.
I rooted the phone and I tried the easily searchable suggestions people have to get this working.
One guy suggested an app called Wifi Tether Router but you have to pay for it and I don't want to do that if it's not guaranteed to work.
I edited the boot.prop file but that also didn't work.
Does anyone know anything I can do to get tethering to work, if not what phone do you suggest I buy at a maximum $250. I really don't need much from my phone except good reception for internet.
I downloaded this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/rom-pl1-samsung-galaxy-j3-emerge-sm-t3580396
But I'm not sure what that is or if I should try it.
any useful suggestions really appreciated.
Also this is a bit over my head so please use full explanations and definitions of terms.
use easytether pro it usrs yr adb to create a parallel data sourced internet, juts plug it in usb and download the modem /drivr of mobilesrteam.com
