I've had a change of heart. Here is the deal Im going to make to all of you! If you have nothing nice to say then don't say it. If you are going to quote me and criticize me like one of the most recent posts then please go away. I'm purely posting so you guys know something is being done.I don't need anyones trust because it is fact that if you don't believe that i'm dong this then yes that is your problem. Anyways just don't comment if you have nothing to say then please don't say it. I have went through a lot and a lot of hours trying to figure out something while you guys just wait.... Anyways our dev is back to help and somebody is helping out with it. We are going to get it to work this time. Last few things have been a bust.

This will be on 25A and if it works we will have root and twrp
I will test.
I could possibly test as well VS990 here
I am willing to test the root.
I would like to test it but I am a H961N user, is it possible to run it on other variants of V10?

Hey Everyone,
If you are reading this thread you care about the LG v10 getting rooted on android 6.0 Marshmallow! Great, so here is what's happening behind the scenes at the moment. Right now there are two different possible ways our phone is going to get root, there are two different people working on a general root. The one is going through a tough time and is taking some time to himself, which is okay, somebody's life is more important than a root method. The second guy just had a post to xda about him rooting the LG k10, now there is no guarantee this will work on our V10 buuuuuttttttt, this is very similar to what our first guy is working on so a few modifications and we could get something up and running, whichever comes first. We've been waiting a long time and I understand that. I know it can be discouraging and frustrating. You will have a weekly update from me on what is going on with the status and if something fails and we give up in any sort, you will know about it. I promise we are trying to find a way! You guys have any comments or questions I will be posting another thread with the link below. I will gladly respond to any questions or information you have for me! It can be a simple question or in depth, I can help you out and save you time! You may post on this thread buy let's keep it cleaned up because this is where I will post updates and the root method once it's finished! Don't get discouraged, we will find a way!\
Sincerely,
@abine45 and @alvinator94
UPDATE 2/19 :
Hey everyone,
I got some good news! Today, we are working on packaging up the root, this is not tested, so no guarantees that this will work, but it should! I am not going to give details right now about how we are trying to obtain this until It's tested. I might have a select few test along with us after our test just to be extra positive it works. With this, though I have more news, if this does work, we could very possibly obtain twrp!!!! That's our next step after root. It would most likely be released together! That is all for today!! PLEASE COMMENT BELOW IF YOU ARE WILLING TO TEST!!!!

Device is UNLOCKED. Status Code: 1

Device is UNLOCKED. Status Code: 3
and what is this ?

Thank you.
Hello Razr users. I was just wondering if you guys have tried doing something similar to what we did to unlock the Atrix and Project Cheesecake. Im brining this up because if you can do the same thing i strongly believe that you will be able to find an OTA file with an unlockable bootloader. The fact that you guys have an impending ICS update only ups the likelihood that you will be able to find one. Ours for the Atrix was found close to our impending Gingerbread update. Only a suggestion but i suggest trying it. I will link to the Project Cheesecake thread once I dig it up.
EDIT: Here is the original thread for Project Cheesecake - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1164582
The mod here is going to need porting to work for you guys or it may just not work at all. I cant do it because I have no real relation to the project other then being the guinea pig and coming up with the name nor do i have any dev experience

Hmm. That'd be this, but it's not supposed to actually brick the phone when 'blown', just chuck it into recovery mode. Of course, that was circa Droid X, it may well behave differently now.

So now that we have the 4.3 update on Verizon (The first to get it before any Carrier) Now what are the next steps here. Would there be a root available for this.

Keep up the amazing work guys.

If root was a priority then upgrading was not the best Choice. The note 3 has 4.3 and also has root. I'm sure a similar method may be found but it may be not be the same sort of free permissions that root users are a custom to. Locked and stocked is the future.

I do believe this is the most classic post I've ever read. A noob ask for a root method 12 hours after release, then tells someone else on a message board to chill. Bwahahahahaha.
Don't look for a root method after a fresh release for about a month. If it comes sooner, then jump for joy. It very well could be later....or never at all.
For me, the Radio is the first thing I look for. Root I have. The new radio I don't. Thankfully it was posted early this morning.
If you'd like to help us out in getting this update rootable please post in thread below. We need someone to pull the TAR file from either Samsung Kies or the Verizon Installer once it is available.

Unfortunately this device will likely be locked just like the J327T.
I have been watching that thread and everything that has been tried is pretty much what I attempted to explain would be a waste of time.
The combination firmware is useless to gain root on nougat.
No auto root is ever gonna work either and neither is Flashfire or SuperSU.
There is a list of reasons why these things won't work, but I'll not waste my time in that thread explaining why.
I don't mind explaining further why here. Just so others will not waste efforts like on the J327T thread.
I'll let that thread run its course until all avenues have reached their inevitable dead ends.
They are harsh words, but unfortunately they are truth.
Suffice to say that the only real way for this device to see root is either an unlocked bootloader (highly unlikely), a proper engineering binary or an exploit is released for Android 7.
If an exploit is found then Kingroot will almost certainly incorporate it in their Software and then there maybe a chance that the combination binary (not the whole firmware) will help get root.
If anyone can confirm for sure this device doesn't have a locked bootloader then I'd be happy to work on it.

No, do bother going into detail, i prolly wouldnt understand.

BTW Chimera is saying them can root both devices. Before i think of putting up the money, what are your thoughts? At that point i might be rooted but no recovery
J727T/1 Recovery/Root (SS SafeStrap)???
Would this work?
Or be a good place to start, building off it???
IF I remember right, it was used for the S4 or S5 att, with same issue. It would set up recovery after bootloader, or something like that. I'm no noon, but not a senior either.
Just a suggestion??
Would be great if someone could implement it to work??

Just bought this phone. Gonna see what I can do with it in the next few weeks. I see we need a better TWRP port, I'll try and work on that in the next few days.

Last time I'm gonna post here til I make an official release. Here is tonight's build, screen tearing is fixed and I've been starting to upstream the kernel to the latest and start adding my tweaks to it.
MUST BE BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED AND TWRP INSTALLED
Download: HERE

Would quick charge be working or is it still locked to 350ma? Just checked the official thread and the bug is coming from lineage os and seems to be a kernel issue.

I've been diving into that issue, haven't figured it out yet. But I'm sure it won't be long.
Hey,
Just bought a G5 RS988 and am struggling to find a good guide for bootloader unlock. I know that's not quite what this thread is about, but I'm sure many others will look for it here. Anyone able to give me a link? Or, if you'd rather, pm me and I'll delete this post if you feel it doesn't fit.
Thanks!
Edit:
Nevermind. Found a generic one here that worked: http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0702
Where are you getting TWRP from? All I can find is this as it's not on the TWRP site: https://build.nethunter.com/test-builds/twrp/lge/twrp-3.0.2-1-rs988.img
Also, is this a good thread to use for rooting? https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/root-rooting-rs988-t3580660
I'm struggling to find promising answers to any of my searches, and there certainly isn't a thread that contains a valid list of all these useful tidbits.

The links you have will work ok... There is no official TWRP yet that I am aware of just as there are no official ROMs (that I know of) there are however unofficial Lineage and Paranoid Android ROMs, and unofficial TWRP
There is a tool from LG that will preform bootloader unlock
I hope this helps

Thank you for all your doing for the RS988 when I made this post I honestly didn't think anyone would care. I thank you for what you are doing and I can't wait until we have official ROMs and TWRP for the RS988

You're welcome. Probably not gonna be making official releases seeing how this is kind of a weekend thing. I work construction and have a newborn so time is not something I have sadly. But I'll try my hardest to get some cool **** for this phone

Question to y'all,
I'm trying to gain init.d script support. Tried the universal init.d app, but if force closes every time I open it. Is there anything flashable that would grant init.d support?
Thanks!
