GRUB is a bootloader, and without a bootloader you won't be able to boot.
Unless you had manually added the proper lines to the bootloader that is installed on the hard drive, you won't be able to boot Remix OS from your flashdrive.
So each computer I plug the usb into will have grub installed onto it?
How do I remove grub from a PC after I am done using the usb with that pc?
I was looking to use the usb (with remixos) as a mobile OS.
I figured it out. I had to completely install RemixOS on a HDD (not a USB), then Uninstall RemixOS using the file in the RemixOS folder. Now Grub is gone.
BUT
What about when I plug it into my GF's pc and don't want to have to deal with installing grub and then removing grub. I thought the point of the USB install was to make it plug and play.,
GRUB is supposed to be installed to your flashdrive, along with Remix OS, not replace your current bootloader (unless you install Remix OS to your hard drive, of course).

Oh, for some reason, RemixOS installed Grub on the PC and RemixOS itself on the USB drive. No idea why.
That is quite odd, perhaps you should use Rufus to flash Remix OS in the future.
Rufus is also much faster.

I have a problem with installation of android x 86 on Acer Aspire V3-731. I have ready installed Windows 8.1 and Linux Mint. I have one disk (sda) with 14gb of free space in partition sda11. So I've downloaded .iso of android x86 i doing the bootable usb with unetbootin. I reboot laptop and I chose a Legacy Bios because in Uefi pendrive doesn't boot. I selected install android x86 to harddisk and i saw an error: GPT[...]Use GNU Parted. So i trying to installed android in other pendrive, I selected pendrive, formate to fat32 and installed android, .iso image and I skipped question of installed grub but system doesn't work after reboot. What do i do? When i select to install grub and android in pendrive, i substitute linux/windows grub? It doesn't work because Linux and Windows working under Uefi?

Have you tried formatting your destination drive with ext3 format? Also, choose yes for grub during install, and choose 'do not format'. Use third party formatting tool, like MiniTool from your Windows to prepare the destination disk.

As long as Android x-86 is concerned, I have been formatting and installing it for the last 2 weeks in a row. With a quest to sort just one mission out and it seems impossible to achieve....
You have created a tricky question to answer. You have a Windows computer, and have a Linux Mint (that's dual boot). And atm you are in quest of Android
Well with my recent experience, installing Android on 149GB external disk, using USB key drive as installer, I have had no issues with the system boot. It does not interfere.
However, a little while ago I did the same thing trying to install Ubuntu on internal disk, and it seems that it has created an entry in the Boot Options in BIOS. I don't know how to get rid of that, and it does not bother me anyways.
Secure or fast boot should take you straight to Windows when you don't want USB boot. To be on a safe side, prepare a Windows USB recovery disk, create Restore points, do back ups and cross your fingers.... just remember it is a risk you choose to take, and disasters do happen Just don't curse me please ...

After installing I get the prompt to reboot or start remix. I choose start remix and it works (except sound but I think that is expected).
After I shutdown and switch back on it does not boot. I am greeted with a grub> prompt.
Does anyone know how I can get remix to boot and automatically boot?

It is a linx1010b tablet (Intel Atom Z3735F - sound does not work in remix though, 32 bit eufi bios but 64bit cpu). I am sure I have installed to hard drive as the USB drive does not flash when loading remix.
I have tried installing several times and even unplugged USB after installing and remix boots. I have tried several partition schemes efi 300mb and the rest as Linux. Nothing appears to help. The remix partition options does not appear to allow setting of boot partition though if that matters.
I insert USB stick (downloaded image couple of days ago) and change boot option so install=1. As USB stick is 8gb and internal drive is 32gb I can tell I have the internal drive due to when partitioning it detects as 29gb.

I installed Remix OS on my hard drive but I wanna remove it and install linux from USB flash drive. I set boot priority and reboot my laptop. I get an error message saying plug a bootable device and reboot. I made a bootable Usb flash drive in windows system. I tried different usb flash drives and distros but always same problem. I guess Remix OS killed my hard drive

I am running Linux on laptop, and the way I flash the RemixOS iso to my USB drive is with dd, and everything seems to work great.
My question: Is there a way to install RemixOS to the USB Flash Drive in such a way that it resembles a permanent full installation?
For example, I could give the USB 1 partition, format ext4, copy the files over, install bootloader, done.
Has anyone tried this or have any information regarding this?

So the HDD in my old laptop died, requiring me to get a new laptop. Lo and behold, however, I had an old laptop that had a good HDD in it and the board was bad. So I want to install Remix onto this HDD, then slap it into my old laptop to play with it.
The HDD right now is in a hard drive reader plugged into my current laptop.
All I want to do is wipe the data off of it, install Remix OS, and slap this hard drive into my old laptop.
Is there an easy way to do this or do I need extra-special partitioning tools? Also, why isn't there just a basic "run the installer and go" version of single-boot Remix?? Why does every installation method require extra steps to create special partitions and bootable USB drives?

If You have Remix OS working on any computer. You could use some HDD cloning imaging to make an image of that hard drive, then clone the HDD to another HDD and it should just work.
I have used Symantec Ghost to create an image of the whole HDD that has Remix OS. Then I have imaged another Laptop with that image and it works fine. However it's advised to do this before You boot Remix OS for the first time. So that it goes as a brand new install, Otherwise the IDs will be identical on both computers including all saved data. Not that it really matters I guess if You want to keep everything as is.
I believe You can also get remix going again on another computer and once it has been installed and it's working. Just replace the system.img and data.img files from a working installation and that should also clone it.
You will need something like Hiren's Boot CD to boot up to say mini Windows XP and then replace the *.img files there in the RemixOS folder once you have copied them to an external HDD or USB Drive from a working installation.
I believe Hiren's Boot CD also has some HDD cloning apps that you can use if you just want to clone the HDD.
... I don't have Remix at all. Hence my question.
I have an empty hard drive taken from an old broken laptop. It is currently in a hard drive reader and I've deleted all files off of it. I want to install Remix to it, then put it in another laptop whose drive went bad. I wasn't only remix on it. I don't understand the procedure to do this or why I apparently need this third party boot software to do this, and why I can't just run the Remix installer on the empty drive and be done. The hard drive is already boot able by virtue of what it is and the fact that the laptop bios already boots from hdd.
Have you tried to use the usb creator for it on a working pc the HDD (external) would be seen as another pen drive I think
I have never tried installing on on a EXT HDD. However i think You can create a USB and then install it to that External HDD. You would need to prepare the HDD, delete all partitions, create an MBR partition with ext4 file system and make it active or it just won't boot from it.
