sony xperia sx so-05d custom rom - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi everyone .
I have just acquired a sony xperia sx so-05d.
I know, it's getting old but it's still a pretty nice device I think.
I am really new on the forum (and in the development in general) and that is why I would like a little help if it's possible.
I would like to upgrade my device to android version 5.1 or 6.0 if possible and I would like ; if possible ; that someone would show me the different simple and understandable steps for a beginner such as me to do it.
And if possible, can someone would advise me some customized roms relating to it and how the installed those ones
thank you in advance

[Q] wanting more info on flashing my ray

hi guys have been reading lots about flashing my ray and have read so much i have confused myself lol anyway im wondering if you can point me into the latest and best way to root my device im on android version 2.3.4 at the min dont want to brick it either thats just why im asking
hi pal ,
read forum first , root solution is here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
it`s easy, you must have pc with windows and usb cabel.
flashing actualy have benefit with overclocking. if you don`t need it, may be better is use some upgrades inside phone ... like framework (transparency menu, some widgets in notifications area, new battery icon etc. )

right now there are only two roms for ray
cyanogenmod and MIUI , both are impressive
thanks again for the reply and the help its very much appreciated
My daughters Ray wil be arriving before xmas and part of the present is that I get a new phone to play with.
I am currently on wolfbreaks 2.3.3 TW GB ROM for x10 with doomkernel v06 medium OC.
I have seen a post above this saying that there are only 2 custom roms for the ray, is that still the case?
The cyanogen rom will be the fxp50, (Available on the cyanogen mirror network) but can I use doomkernel (For fxp based roms) on that rom?
Many thanks for any advice, and I look forward to contributing more in this forum.
Regards,
Greg
just to let you know guys rooted the phone and unlocked bootloaders without losing DRM and was very simple thanks for the help and advice now to find some nice custom roms and try them out

There is no official ICS firmware for our devices, SE never even gave us a frozen yogurt, so the only way to get ICS on your phone is either MiniCM9 or this one, which is based on ICS sources.
Oh, I thought that you was searching a kernel for android 4.0.4 . The thread i gave include's a link to a kernel that support android 4.0.4 (CM9).
great thanks SmG67 .... is there any way to adapt the SK17i file for the U20i ?

Nope, sorry, the SK17i runs on a newer SoC than ours, and they're not compatible.
You would have to recompile it all from source, which is what the provided links have already done for us , they are really the only options for our phones.
ok; we'll keep CM9 .... great thanks SmG67

upgrading new u20i
Hi guys, I'm new here. I recently bought new xperia mini pro u20i and I don't really like the old OS in it. Thought to upgrade to ICS but the problem is that I'm not experienced at all in these android update&upgrade things. (I'm mostly a computer guy ) I've read instructions how to upgrade etc.. but I'm not risking do it alone although I rooted my phone few hours earlier (whatever that means ) I need someone experienced to show me either on Skype or any other IM step-by-step how to upgrade my OS before I go crazy about it ICS seems like a cool upgrade and I want to try it out. Reply here or PM me, doesn't matter. Please just help me to accomplish this task. Appreciate it. Thanks in advance ))

Start thinking of your phone as a computer... It will make things easier.
Root access (which is easy to come by on Windows, but usually needs a password on linux) allows you to tinker with your system-files.
And there is a tutorial around here somewhere, where the poster has gone through the trouble of making screenshots for every step needed, so maybe you could search for that.

What is the difference between s, p, u, sola, acro phones software?

This may be some what a "noobish" question, but I couldnt manage to find it out by just lurking these forums + google.
This sub-forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1515) of xda-developers contains all the Xperia phones (s, p, u, sola, acro).
From what I can see the most active forum with modding your phone is Xperia S forum, which contains information about how to root your phone and put a custom firmware into it.
Therefore is my question,
are there any similarities between these phones and if so - can I use any custom ROM I find in for example here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1518 to my new Xperia Acro S?
Because I thought it would be more activity about the new Acro S like rooting and custom firmware and etc. But as you can see it is pretty dead - http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1731
The phones look-alike but do they differ so much that I cant use mentioned custom roms to the phone Acro S?
:|
Hi dude , look
U cant install roms of other Xperia Devices on ur acro S , it just wont work
The software might seem the same for u , but the hardware isnt , for example Xperia S roms are made for xperia S not acro S , they wont run on ur device , so best advice , wait till the developing team goes for ur device..
Good Luck

First of all what's NTT?
And
Second if your Model name is not listed as the Related model.
Of your Device.
Ask developers if they can bring their support to your device. ..

NTT DoCoMo is a Japanese network. SO-02E is basically their version of Xperia Z.

if you want to try the 4.3, maybe you should try the official international firmware. works just fine for this device, but not the journalist & commercial version.

Better if I wait for official lollipop or install now?

Hello all!
This week I got the Xperia Z2 tablet, but I'm a bit noob on android roms and etc.., I want to customize my tablet but I've read that Sony will apply android lollipop for this days, mid-february or so.. then I saw those:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...reexperia-project-aosp-android-5-x-x-t2983713
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...elopment-cm12-android-5-0-freexperia-t2959664
What is your advice guys? Wait to Sony release official lollipop or install one of those I posted above??
Another question.. cyanogenmod vs original lollipop? What to choose?
Thank you all!!!

If you have to ask, wait for stock Lollipop.
Still interested ? Spend some time reading to see what you are getting into.
Custom ROMs require compromises/.
CM12 runs very stable on my Z2 Castor Windy.
I'm wondering the same thing and more, myself. I do hope somebody with more knowledge than I will chime in and advise. This z2 I have really is an impressive device. Do you know what frequency and type the 3gigs of ram are? It doesn't seem to be DDR 3 since it only seems to be able to do one or two things at the same time. For example, if cutting and pasting a file from one folder to another, then pasting another file from the pc orchestrating everything, if you try anything else, you get some "busy toast" message. Maybe I don't understand all I think I know about it.

I've read quite a bit and I'm not sure why it is a hard question for an expert to answer if to root a stock spg512 with the latest "unrootable" build before or after it gets OTA to Lollipop. One of the things that may escape you is that the various threads on these devices are often unclear if they are discussing the phone or the tablet, both named Z2, and most of them discussing the tablet speak directly to spg511.
I suppose I should simply do whatever needs done to put some form of L on it and do from there. I'm not worried about warranty and such. Otherwise, your answer was not very helpful and I can only assume you were bored when you typed it.
