Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Have already looked at link before posting this question and relevant model (SM-J120ZN) wasn't listed. Checked again just now, to make sure and found not listed.

Okay if your devices isn't listed there just download the proper twrp recovery for your device and flash BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328 zip file from the twrp recovery. check these link for twrp https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...overy-twrp-3-0-2-0-samsung-galaxy-j1-t3444010

SM-j120F will work for your model too just only check the first letter j120 the last extension (F,zn,etc..) mostly are not significant when we talk about custom recovery because those extension just tell's which network carrier handle that device so go head and check it your phone will not bricks........ if it stack on sumsung logo you can write the stock recovery via odin

Thank you so much for your clear and systematic instructions and your patience. Did as you suggested today and it did not brick the phone. After this step, managed to work through the other steps (flash SuperSu and Xposed framework for Samsung) and installed Xprivacy just now.
Just one last question-Have flashed SuperSu v 2.79. Would it have been better to flash BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2 as you suggested in your post above?

It's better to flash the latest version of SuperSU because it add new exploit for new phones model... if the root is success with v2.74 no need to looking for the beta version which is the last one but if rooting is not success download the latest version of SuperSu the one with BETA prefix.... Enjoy your rooted devices bro :good: :good:
thanks
i have the same phone as you so this helped me a lot
Yes it works on

Thanks very much.

That's what "Search" is for my friend. Sorry, but this thread is completely unnecessary.
No one can provide/give you a link to any recovery without the correct information. You didn't mention what device model you have. Just saying "L9" isn't enough as there are 4 L9 variants. Also, if your bootloader is locked, you'll need a 2nd-init recovery instead of the standard recovery that can be flashed to your recovery partition. And, don't tell me you searched either. If you had, this thread wouldn't be here.

The latest recoveries (for p760) are Twrp 2.7.1.0 from either the Openrecovery project or Zyr3x(which has a battery indicator as the only mentionable difference).

You don't need to root Lollipop to install a custom ROM. In case you just want to root lollipop, download the super user zip file. Just google it. Launch TWRP and install the zip file. That's all.

I have been trying this method but doesn't seems to work, I already changed the name of the twrp img file but nothing :crying: any suggests?
You need to tell it where the file is located, the easiest way to do this is to put the TWRP file in a folder and then hold down the shift key and right click with your mouse inside the folder you put the file in. You should see an option to open command window here. Select this and try flashing TWRP again. It should work. Here is an explanation with pictures of what I was talking about with the open command window here http://michaelcrump.net/power-tip-for-windows-users-open-command-prompt-here/

Flashing a old or new firmware build on your phone, no chances of brick, unless your computer catches fire in the process.
There's TWRP for your phone in the reserved XDA forum? Flash it using Odin and flash SuperSU system-less. CF-Auto Root does it, flash a patched custom recovery and flash root package.

I'm trying to root a Samsung G7.
Here is some info on it:
Model: SM-G930A
Android Version: 6.0.1
Build#: MMB29M.G930AUCS4APK1
I am new to rooting and messing with phones and stuff so I've been using a lot of YouTube and xda forums to try and figure out how to root this phone.
I've tried all the one click roots from this list, https://www.xda-developers.com/best-one-click-root-2018/
After that, I started looking at tutorials on YouTube that used a computer and USB to root a phone. From there, I learned that Odin is a thing and people use it. So I tried that out, but I couldn't find the right boot.img for my specific model of phone. The thing is, I don't know what a boot.img is or if that's even what I need.
I am currently trying out this tutorial online: https://dottech.org/199442/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-s7-sm-g930a-on-android-6-0-1-marshmallow/
I googled engboot samsung g7 (it was mentioned in the online tutorial I am currently using) and found this xda link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/engboot-s7-s7-edge-qualcomm-exynos-t3531104
Oh, and I've already setup ADB and figured out how to get into downloading mode and recovery mode.
That's where I am on my journey to rooting my Samsung G7.
I'm in need of much assistance though.

I have not figured out how to update the phone.
When you say update, do you mean the Android version or the model (ex. SM-G930A)
Also, the link you sent me, is that a link to change your phones version or root the phone?
I downloaded all the files it asked me to, but in the rooting instructions it wants me to flash a .tar file that I didn't get from the downloads it linked.
