Enjoy!
I got it this morning as well.
I am going to wait a week or so to see how it goes for others before I jump in.
I look forward to seeing how it works out for you.
So far so good, I like the built in "optimize" feature to clean out crap that takes up extra storage and/or slows down the phone

Sprint's bloated firmware!
I have been running the "U" firmware on my S7 pretty much since I got it. Out of curiosity though I flashed back to sprint's firmware so I could test drive the nougat update. God what a bloated mess the sprint firmware is! I had forgotten just how intrusive and bloated it was. Besides the 15 or so useless apps it forces you to install (and a lot of them can't be uninstalled), there are lots of useless processes that you can't stop or disable that are always running whether you're using them or not. I did go ahead and do the nougat update and it is pretty nice. But I flashed back the U firmware to be free of all that sprint clutter, and also because I need my hotspot. I'll just wait until Samsung updates the U firmware to nougat. I can understand when we were supposedly getting "subsidized" phones, that sprint would want to make some more money by putting all these crap apps on the phones. But now that you pretty much have to pay full price for the phones, it's total BS that they still load them up with all that crap.
I'm happily looking forward to the non-bloated, clean U firmware nougat update.

I flashed the sprint PL6 firmware with Odin (you have to use the plain CSC file - which will do a full wipe/factory reset, NOT the HOME_CSC file) and was then able to get the nougat update:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/120986/G930PVPU4APL6_G930PSPT4APL6_SPR/
I accidentally installed it yesterday, but so far, so good.
I had already disabled all of the bloat with Package Disable Pro, so I guess they stayed disabled. I did not see any new bloat introduced by the install of Nougat.
Seems a bit more refined. Too soon to tell in terms of battery life, but so far seems on par with MM.

I was coming from the bloat-free U firmware (so I had to do a full wipe before installing PL6 sprint firmware, which meant I got the full sprint firmware, bloat and all). That's why the amount of bloatware on the sprint firmware annoyed me so much. The contrast between the two is like night and day. The U firmware is so lean and clean compared to the Sprint firmware. As I said before, now that we have to pay full price for these phones, we shouldn't have to put up with all this crapware the carriers load on our phones. The phones are not subsidized any more, we should get a clean, crapware-free phone for paying full price.
If im not mistaken pl2 is the latest firmware for the U. will it update to nougat via OTA on the U firmware?
When I installed PL6 version, I took sim card out, signed in to Google, downloaded Samsung package disabler and disabled all bloatware including boost sim setup and install apps, then inserted sim and none boost crap was installed, just the boot logo on boost main app was installed. I'm bloat free, also in U ROM once I signed into Samsung account, allot of their bloat did install. To prevent that, I backed up all apps and disabled Samsung app and installed all it's apps from backup into fresh U ROM again. I was just testing as I had some time to kill one day.
Oh and nougat is operating very snappy, responsive, about same on battery, got the hot spot shortcut like on U ROM, very nice build.
If anyone is looking for good launcher, I found very nice and light nougat launcher from play store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cmnlauncher
And disabled factory launcher
Total of about 100 apps disabled so far.

Got the update this morning. The UI feels snappier. Not sure about battery life. The pop up notifications can now NOT be turned off. But you can disable it with a flag in debug mode. Still getting use to the new UI. The biggest change is maybe the phone dialer. It feels more cluttered as it's now one state rather than in multiple states/apps.
Do you think they will be able to root this new nougat update? Is anyone trying to do this?

My wife had the same issue.. android system use caused the battery to drop incredibly fast. Reset fixed it.
Conformed. Reset fixed it. Now I just have to figure out why it's now no longer compatible with QC 2.0 from my battery pack...

My wife has an S5. I bought one on ebay to replace her S4,but it's dreadfully slow.
It came with an older version of Android so it had to go through 4 or 5 OTA updates. It's current, and I gave it another factory reset before giving it to her.
She has had it for about two weeks and there are multi second delays between simple UI events that should happen in near real time. The phone is horrible. She hates it and I can see why.
I keep coming back to the upgrades. Is there any evidence there is a difference at runtime between taking multiple OTA updates, and going straight to the latest by flashing it directly?

Hmmm I'm not sure but my gf is having the same problem maybe the galaxy series just hates women xD jk ofc but her phone was fine up until she took the oj4 update try checking what her ram is also I'll link you to my thread about it and you can see if any of those suggestions help you
This one is for the potential problems.http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/help/extremely-slow-t3306089/page2
This one is for rooting it and what I did was I rooted it with just the stock stuff and then I deleted some of her bloat ware apps and deleted the cache and that seems to have worked when I play on OT but she still complains about it going slow so idk take it how ever you want too
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/help/root-help-please-t3276944
It's not in your head. I recently upgraded from an S4 to an S5. My wife took my old S4. The S5 is just slow, I don't know why. On both phones, I've got them fully updated (5.1.1 on the S5, 5.0.1 on the S4) rooted, and de-bloated. The S4 is noticeably faster. We've actually tested them, side by side, and on any task the S4 is faster. I can't wrap my head around it.
The only benefit I got from upgrading to the S5 was a little bit better battery and a better camera.
S5 slow after updates
This is a noted issue with T-Mobile S5. There are pages of complaints @ T-Mo support site.
https://support.t-mobile.com/thread/93745?start=0&tstart=0
S5s updated to 5.1.1 are prone to much lag. Solution seems to be downgrade via Odin to 4.4.2 or root and custom ROM. CM 12.1 is stable and runs well with good battery life.
So, I've tried every which rom out there for the nexus 6p and got tired of dealing with sub par battery life, random hangs (albeit occasionally, but precisely when I needed it to not lag) and other issues. I even tried having 100% stock but with custom recovery and systemless root. Somehow though they were nice for a while they started to slow down and act up after a while. Finally I decided to go back to stock. Fastbooted and flashed stock from Google servers and even locked the bootloader and unchecked "allow unlocking".
I can honestly say that ever since then I've had zero issues and battery life has been phenomenal. No random lags or freezes or drain.
Perhaps this is how google wants the device to be used and stock Android has something in our that works properly only on a 100% factory set software.
Yea I miss the ios style emojis and ad bocker but at least now I can be rest assured about ota updates and using the device in the way google intended and thus having the best experience??
Also I think xposed is slowing down marshmallow and giving it some issues after a while.
What do you guys think ?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Using a Stock based ROM with root, Adblocker and some Bloatware removed works the best for me. I remember Xposed to be buggy since Android 5, this is why I never used it again. Flashing Updates is not a big deal if you know how to use fastboot and how to flash single parts of a factory image.
Same here dude I have had android phones since the g1 rooted so many. I even remember when Franco was starting out lol. But with the nexus 6p I feel stock is the best experience I have tried a few ROMs but stock is great for this device... Don't get me wrong I feel I need to sometimes try a rom but I don't as it's a hassle now. 100% stock here.
I'm a happy custom rom flasher! Rocking with Chroma for now & like Sinless .. XDA Development for the win!
I'm using Pure Nexus with no issues whatsoever. It's essentially the stock ROM with a few goodies added.
That's where I'm at too. Tethering works, Android pay works, I have no problems with battery. Couldn't be better. I do miss some of the root/ROM features like center clock, different pictures on lock and home, double tap to wake and sleep though
Pure nexus works for me. But yea each phone will be a little different.
Agreed.. I buy nexus so I DON'T have to root to get that experience.

Placebo...
Absolutely not my experience. Used the phone about one month with stock ROM and flashed Chroma ROM and Franco's kernel then. First thing I noticed was the device running much cooler!! Not a single problem here...
Hmmm pure nexus with ak gives you much better performance and battery than stock.... On screwd at the moment. Also very good
Stock is stock the way the device was intended to be used. Any changes will come from the source, "customize" someone else's work lol..... Riiiiighhhht

If you are happy with pure stock, that's great. May I suggest unlocking that bootloader though. I've read about a couple guys where an OTA failed for whatever reason and the phone will not boot. With a locked bootloader, you have no hope of fixing it.

I second this.
Battery for me has been the same. Also that white background settings UI I hate, black background just looks so much better
Opinion I know but it's an option is lose without root
Kinda Agree.. I'm on Chroma's Rom and not rooted. I like Chroma's subtle additional settings and stock kernel plus the Phone runs great. I will only load roms that use stock kernel because of lag and additional rom anomalies that happen when i need to do something...Ugh!
Choose your apps carefully, is my advice.
If you want to use facebook/messenger. Go for tinfoil or something like that instead. Also, disable the google apps you don't use. Maps can also be done with the browser and is one of the primary battery drains for example. Just like i noticed that since i disabled chrome and went for a chromium browser, battery life has gone up! Same with swiftkey instead of google keyboard, ecspecially with a nice black skin.
And yeah, use the drawer and dock for shortcuts, don't clog your homescreen with icons and widgets. That saves memory and thus battery power.
The thing i don't get though, is that with my z1 on 4.4.4 i could easily get 3 days with 5/6 hours screen on time. I really have to do my best to get that on my 6p. Even though the battery is 500 mah larger!

Thanks for the tip. That makes sense. Perhaps when ota update comes in and updates the factory recovery, it needs the "allow unlock" button checked.
Maybe that's why it was checked by default after factory reset.

does anyone know or can guide me to any marshmallow rom for the xperia z3v please?
also, how do i get rid of the verizon start up screen and the bloatware?
I second this... sort of irritated that there doesn't seem to be a simple solution. What about using the regular Z3 ROM? Will it brick the Z3v?
I'm not an expert. But what I did was just used titanium backup to uninstall my sys-apps. I always froze the app first to see if it would crash anything (Other than the app's own error message). If it didn't I uninstalled it. I really good resource is to check out a thread describing all the sony bloat, over on the z3 forums. Another harder, but sure fire way is to install the old AMAZING rom on an earlier marshmallow version by Zachpope (I may be wrong on that name drop there) that rom was amazing. All the bloat was gone and the build prop was superb. I'd still be on it, but some of my networking stuff didn't work. Anyways, install that, check out what is and isn't installed, then revert back to your original build and get rid of what Zachpope got rid of.

Yeah along with it would seem others as well, I got a Blackberry Priv for all the problems I was having with the Z3v, VzW stopped supporting it just after I received mine, 4 months behind in updates and no Marshmallow even though there is a Marshmallow update on all other carriers Priv's. So I gave up on Android for the time being, Android is getting way to unsecured for me right now so I am eating Crow and getting an iPhone 7 Plus. Goodbye Android, Google, the carriers and phone manufactures have killed the joy we once had with Android.
I am a purist, Android is Linux, it should be free and user tweakable, take Root and unlocked bootloaders away and you are worse than iOS.
With my Linux PC I can update the OS anytime I feel like it, security updates are regular. Although Micro$oft tried to lock the BIOS it didn't succeed.
Phones are mini PCs, locking one down does not make it secure, it makes it less secure for the end user can't keep it updated and are dependent upon manufactures and carriers for updates, which those 2 will hold updates and patches hostage so you will upgrade to a new phone as they want you to.
There is a huge security mess brewing and it will come to a head soon.

Nougat has severely diminished my device
Just a general rant, don't know if this is the correct thread for this, and not asking for assistance, just sharing my experience. I updated to official 7.0 when it was release, have been using it for few weeks. Battery life has been way worse than with 6.0.1, speaker sounds as if it is blown out. and multiple major apps crash constantly (facebook, google play music amazon app store etc). Was on beta before officail and DID NOT have these issues. None of the fixes I have searched for have worked.
Used Odin to downgrade back the other day, immediately noticed improvements in sound, after a day, battery was back to normal and apps are working without crashing.
Dont know if just me/my device, or a known issue with the official sprint release.

Thanks to the OP for posting this, as I will certainly be using it.
And to @Blkjck11, Nougat isn't perfect, and this device CERTAINLY isn't exempt. Nougat has hit my device performance HARD when using GPS, or even switching from a game to the home screen. Battery drain is a problem as well...but even after all of that...I still rather Nougat over MM. The multiwindow has been well refined, and the install/launch times for apps has improved.
Performance certainly varies between devices, and you might not be experiencing the same issues as others.
This is strange, mine the battery improved. Hmmm

Rooted or not rooted? I think not rooted Android 7 is a lot smoother and less intensive. Plus it really comes down to how much you use the phone, what apps are running all the time in the background, etc...
But if you have gone through any steps to "modify" your install of Nougat, always interested to hear. Performance and still maintaining decent battery life is always cool.
Not rooted. Same amount of use as previously on MM just seems a touch better.

I tried flashing this firmware, but I keep getting an error saying that the MD5 hash is invalid for the AP file (the error message shows up when I try to load the files into odin). Yeah can just flash the Odin files for the Marshmallow firmware. But that blanks your phone and is basically like doing a factory reset, just back to 6.0.1
Though I'm surprised that a lot of apps crashed. I'm running stock, for now, and yeah I've noticed battery life is up and down. I happened to have loaded Pokemon GO, and when I run that it just kills my battery. Of I stick with normal messaging apps, web surfing, Tapatalk, YouTube, stuff like that... I seem good. But I also am running my screen at at the 1080p mode, and turned my brightness down a bit. Also disabled all the Sprint stuff and other apps I'm not using, that I'm unable.to uninstall because they are bloatware.
I have noticed my phone getting warm randomly sometimes, reboot usually fixes it (unless I'm gaming). But battery life still seems decent. Then again that's coming from a rooted version of this firmware as well.
Though last thought I can think of, is that I did a fresh clean install of QC1, and then upgraded to QD2. But upgraded always seem to have lingering issues though. But since on QD2 I think battery is better than QC1, so we'll see.

Is it possible to roll back incremental updates? ie from QE1 back to QD2. My wife's phone received the QE1 OTA update and since then her wifi has not worked and it also says CUSTOM rather than OFFICIAL. I have not rooted the phone. I really don't care about the CUSTOM part, just trying to get the wifi working again. I've tried factory resets and loading the QE1 firmware via ODIN and resetting the device completely with that method at least 3 times now. Still no dice. I'm thinking it's a software issue and maybe rolling the update back to a prior version might fix it? Sprint won't work with me because they say KNOX was tripped because I rooted it (which I didn't...).

Yeah the file in the OP will work.
So usually the first thing I do with all of my phones, is install a custom ROM ( and root obviously ). The newer the phones get the less reasons I find to void warranty and root it. Can someone give me a few good reasons to root my S9 plus, or tell me the reasons as to why you did it.
Thanks, Andrew.
Necessity to root, install ROMs has become less compared to earlier days with latest smartphones. But I flashed a custom ROM ( Resurrection Remix using TWRP) on the G-965F recently to stay away from samsung services and to get out of midrocre batterytime of the stock Firmware. Performance is out of the world and batterytime is solidly extended with it. Camera portrait mode doesn't work with Google hdr+ camera yet and that's a trade off should work in future.

Package Disabler Pro did everything I needed, and battery life is great (I did a 13 hours shift yesterday with lots of Facebook, photos, video recording, all on intermittent signal on both mobile and wifi, and battery went from 98% at 7am to 58% by 7.30pm.
I really don't know how you'd get much better life, other than a Mate 10 Pro, but they have their own issues...

I have noticed that battery life seems to be a hit and miss for people, some get really good, some get really bad.
Mine is mediocre, I feel like it could be better but it's not the worst in the world.

Yeah I tried to the first time, ah well these things happen haha.
rooting is a little more than just battery life, things like titanium backup still needs root, and if one decides to remove 'bloatware' (i.e. apps that one don't use) be it that they are sometimes nuisance with all the auto updates unwanted notifications, root is still needed
I rooted my galaxy s9 plus for various reasons. First to greatly enhance the audio by viper4android, and with dolby atmos also on at the same time it completely redefines the sound coming from it. Another reason for me was to use L speed, i have to say it actually makes a difference in performance and battery but not that much. And the third reason is to use substratum, i just love it.
So after all of this you think I am trying to convince you to root, but I don't actually recommend rooting this device specifically. Why? I really don't see the need of rooting it. It has everything that I wanted, but because of my childish brain I couldn't control myself so I went ahead and root it. After all, don't root it.
Debloating stuff which improves battery and performance, and a lot of other tweaks. As for me I use it with my ps4 controller using an app requiring me to root. Now I have my own retro console
This is my first phone I have used that includes NFC payment. So I have started to really enjoy the Samsung Pay feature. Are there anyways of still using this after rooting the phone?
Also can someone give a list of things to disable with 'Service Disabler'? I think Package Disabler Pro has been removed from the play store so I can't get it anymore
After having had a lot of Phones where I felt the need to root them, I can agree on what some others said before me, and that is that the S9+ is the first Phone I haven't felt the need for rooting it. It has basically everything I want that root could give me before, the only thing I am yet wanting is Viper4Android and TitaniumBackup, but there is Samsung Cloud for backup (it even works for gamesaves), and then the built in Equalizer is really good compared to any other from other OEM's. There are however downsides from rooting it, like not being able to use Samsung Pay for example, or Google Pay, or (if you're a fan of it, I dislike the game but whatever) Pokémon GO. Basically any app that uses SafetyNet will stop working (Magisk isn't 100% safe either and can fail). As Samsung gives me the option to theme my Phone to dark like I used to do with Root, and overclock it for Games using the GameTuner, and other things I did with root, I see no reason to really root my S9+ for now, maybe when it reaches it's EOL but currently it is better not to root it.
for me s9 plus need to be rooted, it depends what you use the root for
rom, kernal, games, backup, full control of your system
my head into stuff like this
for normal user i doubt it they even know what root can do
i rooted all my phones before the s9 plus this one waiting for it to be rooted

Necessity to root, install ROMs has become less compared to earlier days with latest smartphones. But I flashed a custom ROM ( Resurrection Remix using TWRP) on the G-965F recently to stay away from samsung services and to get out of midrocre batterytime of the stock Firmware. Performance is out of the world and batterytime is solidly extended with it. Camera portrait mode doesn't work with Google hdr+ camera yet and that's a trade off should work in future.

Ironically, you need to have magisk to get those apps to work. If you have magisk, you can change your device fingerprint using a modue called magisk hide props.
Will This Interfere With My Cell Phone Plan
The only reason I am hesitant to root my Galaxy S9 , is that I'm not sure of all of the negative impacts of rooting. here is my question. If I root my phone will i get to keep my cell phone plan? and will i be able to trade in my phone in the future?
I've had a lot of phones, all of them was rooted, even my S7, but the S9+ is my first that I haven't felt the need to root or anything else.
It's just a great phone.

You will keep your cell phone plan as that's based on the Sim card. And trade in depends on region I think. But factory reset with original recovery and everything should mean you can trade in unless your telecom company doesn't like it
