hey guys I have a problem I flashed a rom to test and then came back to existenz 5.1.1 that I had made a back up and now I don't have nothing in internal memory what happened?? although the file manager shows in information that I have all my stuff and I have 2.5 gb free form 12 gb!!
I connected my phone to pc and it shows all the internal files but in the phone file manager it shows nothing! also phone>settings >storage it also shows that I have 2.5 gb free from 12! I cant update apps from google play also and i cant download something that maybe it saves in internal
what is this?
1.Try to restore your backup again.
2. Flash existenz Rom again and just restore data from recovery

Go to recovery, click on the restore option, choose your backup and only select data and flash. Done! If this doesn't work then flash room again and clear dalvik cache

Hello
Here is my story
I was trying to upgrade to ICS by flashing the latest stock ROM XXLPS that I got from Samfirmware.
1- on the first try I did not perform a full wipe, the ROM was a no wipe ROM so It upgraded and all my apps are kept there,. after a while I start facing errors and restarts so I fall back
2- on the second try I flashed the ROM then I did a full wipe/factory reset. It was working well until I rooted it using CF-root and started to restore my apps using TB. I noticed that the problems are coming from Apps installed on external SD, sometimes it was unmounted automatically
Anyway I did a fall back using a CWM restore, I noticed after restore that CSC and baseband are still the ICS ones ? I thought that CWM backup and restore everything??!!
I have also had the same experience once....
when we select advance restore we can find these:
1) Restore Boot (which include boot image and Kernel)
2) Restore System (complete system files)
3) Restore Data (user data like apps and user data etc..)
4) Restore Cache
5) Restore Sd-ext (if we set a partition for applications in the externel SD card)
Unless the CSC is already integreted in system (2nd item) I believe these 2 items, especially baseband, are not backed up normally from CWM, otherwise there should be a restoring option too .....
Especially if you go from one generation to another (Gingerbread to Icecream e.g.) its more complicated to go back a step. You should flash a base Gingerbread ROM from samfirmware e.g. with ODIN (not a CWM version) and then try to restore your Gingerbread backup.
After you flashed the base you may change CSC before you restore your backup. This is the cleanest way to get back.
CWM nandroid is not what we know as a real image backup of a PC.
Thanks guys for the clarifications
BTW regarding the upgrade to ICS what is the best option to do it and restore back the apps or keep them ?

This you have to do with Titanium back up not with CWM back-up...with Titanium Backup pro you can restore applications from nandroid (CWM) backup.
there should not be any problem while you restore only apps on the ICS, some may not work, just unsinstall such...better you select it individually and install... but dont attempt for any system data restore....
This is exactly what I have done, i tried to restore using TB but from backup taken by TB and not from Nandroid.
It was working fine but later start to hang and restart. I noticed that the issue is coming from applications installed on external SD? Is there any issue with ICS or CF-root kernel and external SD card?

try moving all apps from ext sdcard to phone for a while and check for any issues like hang or restart
I found an open issue related to crash and reboots when a large number of apps are installed on sd card.

I put the chip v1.5.1 zip on my internal SD card and used CWM to install it
after install is complete and I reobot, the samsung screen comes on and then the screen is on, but all black
I restored my device with CWM and is working fine on stock ROM, but can someone help me properly install the ROM. I do not have access to an external SD card so I would really appreciate it if someone could wal me through step b step on how to flash this .zip I would seriously appreciate it
in cwm

2. wipe catch

Wait so all of my old apps/music are gone now? Do I have to redownload or is there a way to get this stuff back (bear with me, first time)
Actually Music is still there, no apps though
Wipe data will delete all your user apps. Yr music isn't deleted because it is in yr usb storage.
Use something like titanium backup or rom toolbox to back up yr apps before u flash. Then in the new rom, just download titanium backup and restore. U will be able to restore because the backups are in the USB storage

Remember to always factory reset when installing a rom, otherwise this will probably happen.
There is some way you can get your google play apps back i think .

Hi there. Yesterday, before flashing leaked 4.2.1 ROM, I did a nandroid backup to my external microSD card using Philz Touch Recovery v. 4.63. The process of backing up was successful.
The problem came when I restored the backup. (Before restoration, I had to reinstall the PhilZ Touch recovery and, from it, I did format cache, format system and format data). I recovered my XXEMA2 ROM with all the apps and configurations I had before, BUT there is no trace of the pictures I had in the internal memory or the files I downloaded.
I tried to repeat the process, but I got the same result.
Does anybody know a solution for this?
Thanks in advance.

Nandroid only backs up your ROM, recovery, apps, app data, etc. and not the data stored in your internal storage.

Ooopppps, I thought it makes a complete image of the phone! (for example, on many websites it's compared with Norton Ghost for PC). Good to know for the next time...
Thank you for the information, Oomahey!

After going back from 4.2.1 to 4.1.2 you'll have your whole Internal Memory in a folder "0". Find it on your Internal Memory. All your data and files should be there. Just transfer them from folder 0 to root of Internal Memory and all will be like before flashing 4.2.1

I seem to be blind! I was looking for the "thanks" button, but I didn't found it (I thought that maybe it didn't appear since I was surfing from my mobile). That's why I said "thanks" texting.
EDIT: I was not blind. In the default version of the forum (the classic one) that appears on my Opera Mobile there is not "thanks" button. You need to change manually the versiĆ³n to 2010 one or higher.

I do have the "0" folder with the old (sub)folders, but all of them are empty :crying:
Maybe it was not a good idea to do format cache/system/data before restoring the nandroid backup... As I thought all data were preserved in the backup, I prefered to delete any trace of 4.2.1 ROM .

Well, that might be the problem. I had also restoring 4.1.2 backup after trying 4.2.1 FW but I didn't do wiping or formating - I just restored backup and there was that 0 folder and all files from Internal were there.

Simplest way would be flash stock via odin, take backup, and install whatever you would want to.

Always, always remember to take nandroid backups, when moving to a ROM less than a day old.

Nope.
Din't try the CWM, I use TWRP, and default option of factory reset does not wipe the internal memory.
Not sure why it would be different in CWM.
Is it all fixed now?

No, im not wipe sd card.
Well your data has obviously gone somewhere, and it wasn't flashing a standard 1 part stock rom that deleted it. If you didn't back it up beforehand, you probably won't be recovering it.
