Samsung Galaxy S3 trying to root again - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

a year ago i tried to root my galaxy s3 and it didn't work
im running on android 4.4.2
odin mode says this:
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Official
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable
Warranty Bit: 1
Bootloader RP SWREV: 3
i checked my device it says it's a model gt i9300
the other guys at xda says it's not the international version and i myself am not sure what is but i have this wifi network that i cant delete it says at&t wifi
any kind of help would be nice
sorry for my bad english

Boot into download mode and look at the model #? Is it a sgh-i747. sgh-i747m, or gt-i9300?

It isn't a 9300 because it has 4.4.2, secure boot, the warranty bit (knox) and a qualcomm chipset. I9300 international (btu) stopped at 4.3, no secure boot, no warranty bit and mali chipset.
Most likely it is a 747, i9305 or variant of.
At&t like to use their own custom stuff and lock it down. Most likely there will be a special procedure to unlock the bootloader and then root. You have triggered knox but it's no issue at all, just worth knowing why it says custom binary yet official status. Failed root will do that.

i'll try to root it using at&t roms

Roms wont get you anywhere. You need to root it first, custom recovery THEN you can flash roms.
You are looking for a specific att method to root thr phone. If it doesnt work you'll have to flash the stock rom via odin and then attempt to root.

What is the model #? The i9300 uses a Samsung Exynos 4412 Quad chip, not Qualcomm.

Here

That is not an i9300, it's an i747 based on the screen shot.
Boot the phone into download mode and check the model #.

SGH-i747

You need to flash files for the i747. The model number in download mode is the right one.

[Q] How to reset flash counter on Samsung Galaxy I9500

Hey everyone.
I was just wondering if there's a current method to resetting the flash counter on the Samsung Galaxy I9500 (international version).
As you know Triangle Away doesn't support the International variant of the S4. For that, I was hoping to find an alternative method.
Thanks.

flash unlocked Verizon s4 ?

i have a Verizon s4 . its unlocked. i am using it in india . i cant find any lollipop firmware without Verizon carrier . how do i upgrade my device to 5.0 ?
I'm guessing you want t update to lolipop but can't because Verizon isn't in India? There's Muniz's rooted stock OF1 in the general section.

thank you for your help i am new to flashing . can you give me link please . i don't know what is munzi or of1 . . can i flash it with Odin ? is it safe like original roms?
are you rooted? If not could you tell me which build number your phone is currently at?
As for Muniz, he's a guy who works on rooting our galaxy s4 =)
the latest build for verizon galaxy s4 ends in OF1. it is Android Lolipop, 5.0.1
his instructions are here.
you'll need root to follow the directions.

from the looks of things , this looks risky . i would rather have a unbricked s4 without lollipop thanks for your help. is it possible to root s4 with iroot ?
It's not really that risky.
best way to root kitkat Verizon galaxy s4 is to use towelroot with NC5 build kernal
Verizon's Galaxy s4 is supposed to be unlocked by default, its just rooting is an option just in case you dont like the look of the s4's lolipop. if you want just complete current stock lolipop build OF1 you can download it here and use ODIN to flash, or just use Samsung kies software.
just so you know if you use the sammobile method or kies method to update to lolipop, you cannot go back down to kitkat. Muniz's method with root allows you to return to kitkat builds if you so desire.
by the way what happens when we flash a rom with carrier to a unlocked phone ?

wait a minute . the link you just send me . . isn't it a rom with Verizon carrier . my phone will remain unlocked if i flash it ?????
You do realize that Verizon phones are supposed to be GSM unlocked by default due to some agreement with FCC for their bands?
From here
Unlocking a Verizon phone
Even though Verizon uses CDMA instead of GSM, most of Big Red’s devices come with an unlocked SIM card slot. According to Verizon, its 4G LTE devices aren’t locked and, if you want to bring one of them to another carrier, there is no code needed to program the phone to play nice with it.
However, even though SIM-equipped Verizon phones can be used on AT&T, T-Mobile, or other GSM carriers, the phone will need to have roaming GSM radios in order to make phone calls and send texts in the United States. While most recent Verizon handsets will work just fine on American GSM bands, your mileage will vary when it comes to LTE support.
Even though Verizon doesn’t have an online unlock request, you can call 1-800-711-8300 and request a SIM unlock.

sorry for my lack of knowledge . i didn't know that . i bought it from my friend . i thought it was locked by verizon and he got it unlocked for Indian sims .
well, then the choice is yours, you can root your phone and use muniz's method to allow you the option of going back to kitkat if you desire, or just use normal methods like samsung kies to update normally, which will lock the bootloader so you can't downgrade.
As for me, I'm going to(try to) sleep. 3 AM here X(

well... if it was one of those international versions of the galaxy s4 like the GT-I9500, then you'd probably brick it by flashing a rom for a carrier version like the SCH-i545. or at the very least softbrick it.
I think unlocking phones is something more hard coded than the rom itself. cause, even if for example you have a att phone unlocked, it still has a att rom, and should be able to update the rom while using an att sim
though in your case, I have a feeling whoever "unlocked" your phone never bothered anything other than change the APN settings to that of whatever Indian carrier you were using.
your phone shoulnt have any problems with flashing an update via kies.
check your build number under settings> more> about phone. if they match any of the PDA here, you're on stock. using network signal info app in the play store can also tell you the build number (build ID) and bootloader.
though if your phone doesn't say "custom" when you boot it from power'ed off, that you're probably on a stock rom with no root

G850A vs G850FQ

Is it possible to overwrite/overflash G850FQ bootloader on G850A ?
or
Can you advise the result of odin flashing G850FQ firmware on G850A ?
Kind regards
FQ has exynos processor, 850F has snapdragon....cross flashing will most likely hard brick the phone. DONT DO IT.

Not true. SM-G850F has the Samsung EXYNOS5430 Chipset and is octacore. [ Cores 8 ]
Yeah, but OP is talking about 850A which has Snapdragon processor, not 850F.

But you or @dork997 said that 850F has Snapdragon. That is not true.
I didn't say so and I believe dork997 simply has a typo. It is irrelevant to this topic anyway.
For OP, IIRC, back in the old days of messing with ODIN and Galaxy S1 and S2, most firmware files don't come with boot loaders. Flashing a ROM with boot loaders inside is considered extremely dangerous because if you mess up boot loader, there is no way to recover your phone (it can only be J-Tagged to revive it). So, if you have a ROM with boot loader in it, you can try but understand the risk involved. Also, as pointed out, make sure the hardware is compatible.
Foxbat...thanks a million for the guidance...
I checked the platforms for both phones and tried to flash with odin with repartitioning g850a with g850f pit and ap/radio/csc/bl , but no success ,not even a hard brick
So two last questions
1- A locked bootloader can not be overwritten even if you have the bootloaders in the firmware file and the pit... is this right ?
2- Will jtagging be a solution to rebuild the phone with the bootloader on ? may sound weird but basically is converting a g850a to g850f possible with jtagging ?
thanks for your patience
Sorry, I don't have any answers to your questions.

Samsung Galaxy A10e from Total Wireless: can a custom ROM be installed?

I got a Samsung Galaxy A10e from Total Wireless: TWSAS102DCP
Can I flash a custom rom on the phone or will it brick?
I found a way to flash a rom on a A10 phone but it only works for Exynos, how do I check if my phone has that?

Best to check the complete device and model name.
Settings - about phone - model number
With this you can search of it's a snapdragon it Exynos variant.
And I do not recommend to flash firmware files for another device. Risk of bricking it too high.
It seems to be an Exynos model, but maybe network locked.
If the bootloader is unlocked, you could try to flash a custom ROM. If you find one for your exact device model.
