[SOLVED] Helium suddenly won't restore apps from backup.zip - Sony Xperia M4 Aqua

Hey there,
I have been successfully using Helium for a while now, and I backing up and then restoring apps many times through it. Here is how I always went about it:
1. Enable USB debugging
2. Open desktop program
3. Open Android app and plug my phone into PC
4. The Helium Desktop lights up with a green checkmark
5. Choose Download to PC in on phone.
6. Open browser, enter the numbers.
7. Choose apps to backup, or drag backup.zip into the appropriate field in order to restore.
Today I flashed my Sony Xperia M4 Aqua (E2306) with Lollipop 26.1.A.1.112 Latin America Generic. And now, I try to restore my apps from the backup.zip I made yesterday, and... it just won't. I select the backup zip, press "Restore", the message "Restoring..." appears, and eventually a green box appears saying that restore is complete, but none of the apps show up on my phone.
*UPDATE*: Although I don't know why, it turns out that Helium backs up and restores files differently on this rom I flashed on my phone. I now can save and restore apps directly to and from the phone's storage, without even having the phone attached to a computer.

[Q] How do you reinstall apps from a backup that was previously stored on a PC?

Here is the problem. I kept a backup from my stock firmware on Titanium Backup (stored it on my pc and deleted it from my phone so i would have more space)and switched to CM7. I then had to get a new phone because the current one at the time had a defective battery and fried the system completely. So, i put my backup from my pc onto my new device and ran TB but restoring my apps was not an option there. any way to solve this??
What I have done in the past is copied all the files INSIDE the TITANIUM BACKUP folder on my PC, put them onto my externalsdcard into a folder/the same folder name "TitaniumBackup", put external sdcard back into phone and boot it up. Once it is up open Titanium Backup, hit menu button, preferences, Backup Folder Location, it should NORMALLY point to mint/sdcard/titaniumbackup, HIT the back button twice until your at mnt/ , then scroll down/pick your external sdcard (emmc if your on cm7), scroll down/choose TitaniumBackup folder, then HIT use the current folder, now hit the back button (it may ask if you want to move the backups to a new location, I don't think it really matters though). the titanium backup app will act like it is starting the app over again. next hit the menu button, choose BATCH, scroll down to RESTORE MISSING APPS WITH DATA, you can unchecked restore app data so it JUST RESTORES the app if you want to be safe, choose/unclick ANY apps you do not want to restore or only check the apps you want to restore. Then hit OK. If you have the paid version all the apps will restore without any further assistance, if you have the free version you will have to OKAY each and every single app just like you were restoring it from the market one by one. Hope this helps ya.

Just go into titanium backup setting and change the Preferences -> Backup Location to wherever you put your folder from the PC onto phone

[Q] Adroid id changed after ROM change-problem Titanium

I have installed SuperNexus JB 4.1.1. published by Faryaab (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810042)
I did wipe/factory reset data.
I have taken backup of all USER apps+data with Titanium backup.
when I opened Titanium backup, I got the message that your device's android ID has been changed!
What is the importance of this ID? I am having trouble with restoring apps using Titanium backup.
I can reinstall apps by going in to Titaniumbackup Folder in the sdcard and click on the file manually.

I tried searching about this on internet but couldn't find the right info.

u can keep ur old id or can change to new id, its up to you as some developers use android id as a way to ensure you're you in some way that isn't as douchey as asking for your hardware id numbers like IMEI or MEID. It's also the way Google recommends to developers for determining who is who for whatever reason. It normally gets reset every time you flash a new ROM or go back to stock.
if u will change ur id ur phone will restart and ur device will have new id although u can keep ur old id too ... no issues there.
Ten Easy Steps for TiBu success:
1. Open TiBu.
2. Menu > Preferences > App processing mode > AUTO Direct (Should be this by default anyway)
3. Create your backup: Hit the Batch button to the top-right on your screen (the one with a checkmark). Hit “Backup all user apps” and click the green checkmark up top on the next screen. When getting ready for future wipes and ROM flashes, you are going to scroll down and just hit “Backup new user apps & newer app versions”, followed by “Redo backups for modified data”... This will update all those saved games and other info that has changed since the last time you backed it up. Do not backup or restore system data.
Note: While not required.. its a great idea to periodically move all of your backups to your computer for safekeeping. When connecting to your computer you will find a /TitaniumBackup directory on your internal storage. Go ahead and just copy the entire folder over to a safe spot on your computer, and update it from time to time. You never know when you that might come in handy!
4. TiBu now lets you backup and restore your call logs, SMS messages, and browser bookmarks (stock browser only).. How sweet is that?! On the main screen hit Menu > Backup data to XML and choose what you would like to backup if you please.
5. Now we're going to make an update.zip.. This is an awesome feature that gives you a file to flash after your ROM, so that when you boot up you will have TiBu already installed and ready to restore all your apps! Menu > Create "update.zip". The only thing you want to change here is under "Titanium Backup will be installed as:" Select "System application". You can change the name of the output file if you like, I just leave it as update.zip for simplicity. Hit your green checkmark up top and you are good to go.
TIP: Remember to create a new update.zip before your next ROM flash if TiBu has been updated at all since then.. which it probably has if its been a while, the developer updates things a lot!
6. Boot to recovery.. flash your ROM and Gapps (if needed). Now Mount the System, then install the TiBu update.zip we just created. Now... reboot.
7. Skip the initial device setup screen. This can be done by quickly tapping the top-left, top-right, bottom-right, and bottom-left corners of the screen in that order. Or you can just skip through everything without entering your Google account info.
8. Launch TiBu and do Batch > Restore missing apps with data. Now here's the important part.. hit Deselect all. Go through the list and manually select the apps you want to restore with data. You can do it safely for MOST user apps: games, utility apps, etc. But do NOT restore data to any Google apps, and try to avoid it for any apps which actively sync often or create accounts in your phone setup. Can you get away with some of these things sometimes? Maybe.. but just don't take the risk. Restoring any bad data you shouldn't could mean you'll have to re-wipe and start all over again. Once you're done selecting, hit the green checkmark to start the restore.
9. Now run through that last step again... This time after hitting Deselect all, hit App only. Now you can select the apps you are going to restore without data. You can do this for just about anything, including your google apps. Its the same as installing them normally.. TiBu will just do it for you in one quick batch job. Afterwards you can do a Menu > Restore data from XML and restore any the call logs and SMS data we backed up earlier as well.
10. Reboot. Go to Settings > Accounts > Add your Google account and set up your phone again. You can take it from here
After I boot from a clean flash I open TiBu and the first thing it does is ask if I want to restore the previous ID...
Great!
Thanks for the detailed description !
I haven't bought the PRO version of TiBu, so I will not be changing the device ID.
Previously, I haven't created the update.zip so I will not be able to restore my previous user app+data too from TiBu.
I should have copied the Titaniumbackup directory to my laptop
Though, I was able to restore SMS and most of my user apps from the TitanumBackup directory, by clicking on the files directly, except the Market links. When I open TiBu, some of the apps doesn't have the market link. But in the Google Play-> My apps, all of my installed apps appear in the "INSTALLED" list.

Contacts lost after ROM upgrade

Hello!!
Can anybody give me a hand with this trouble:
Last night, I upgrade the ROM of my SGS2 from 4.0.4 (official) to 4.2 (cyanogenmod) using CWM. The ROM that I installed was downloaded from "Cyanogenmod download" (I can't post the link, but downloaded the 2013-02-04 09:32:39 version for SGS2).
Before I start the process, I made a backup with Titanium app.
When I finished the upgrading, I restored the backup, but my contact list wasn't restore!!!
I looked for in Titanium and it said that my contact list was backed up successfully, but can´t restore my contacts (Doesn't show an error detail or something)...
On the other side, I have a backup that I made a months ago with Samsung Kies, but when I Try to connect my S2 to Kies...it always stays "connecting" and doesn't show any progress. Then, I unchecked the "USB Debugging" mode --> unplugged the phone, restart the PC and Phone, installed the drivers and connect the phone again to my PC and I got the same result, the cellphone doesn't connect...Always appear "connecting" and nothing happens...
Is there any way to restore the contacts backup made by Titanium or the Kies backup in this new ROM???
May I use another program (not Kies) that I can use to restore the Kies backup???
Thanks a lot for your help!!!
Titanium will keep your contacts, logs and sms IF you choosed Backup System Data through the backup process. Contacts and Messages are system apps, they are not backed up by defaulf, you have to do that manually. That's because restoring sytem apps to a new ROM different from the previous one always became to conflicts. If its not done i assume the story becomes harder.
Did you used GMail in your previous rom? It has a option to backup contacts. Also why just not save contacts to your SIM card...that always work for me.
Just re-add your google account and your contacts will be re0-synced to phone. (Google account automatically backs up your contacts/calender etc)
I used a google account, but that account was not syncing contacts...
Is there anything else that I can do???

Kies will not work if you have custom ROM in your phone.
It will be time consuming but what you can try to do if your contacts have not been stored with google is to flash stock samsung firmawe with Odin. Then restore your contacts with Kies, back them up witch google account or export to file and then root your phone again and flash custom firmware.
Yeah,
If I don't have any choice, i have to do that!
A lot of work, but nothing to do...
thanks for your help!!!

First titanium backup is not recommended for CM10.1 see this
Second go to kies, the contacts you saved ,It will be in .spb
first find that file in your pc and copy to other location. (backup if you lost file in case)
then in kies select save as and select save as vCard file and all your contacts will be stored individually in your pc.
connect phone and put all contacts in phone internal storage
open contacts > menu button > import/export > import from storage
you will find all your contacts in few moments...
and then backup to Google account:good:

And now you can import contacts to the google account and enable to synchronize to the phone.
The hardiest way is to completly back to stock rom, synchronize contacts from kies to phone. And then go to Contacts, Export to sd card, re-flash new rom and go to Contacts and import to the phone backup from sd card... Backup on sd card is stored as xxxx.vcf file in the root of sd card
A was similar issue with my old Nokia and backup through the Nokia PC SUite, but a was some contacts stored in Outlook, and solution was synchronize through Nokia PC suite.
If you changing roms enable synchorinzation to the google account. this is easy way to have a backup...

[Q] Can't backup with adb/helium/google/recovery

G'day/Good Morning/Hello/Hi,
I own a Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro (MK16i) and I am running CyanogenMod9 (20130721), rooted and bootloader unlocked. I have been trying to back up the apps and app data so that I can transfer them to my new phone (Motorola Moto G with Android 4.4.2, unrooted and bootloader locked), but whatever I try doesn't work.
With adb backup, it prompts me to confirm the backup operation on my phone, but nothing appears and I end up with a 0 byte backup file. Tried it on a few computers. Works with my new phone.
With Carbon/Helium, it complains that I have a desktop backup password, but I've never set one, and I can't seem to set one. No matter what I type, I get "failure setting backup password".
With google's servers, I can't find a place to check that it is backed up, nor figure out how to restore to my new phone. It may be backed up, but I can't find out where. In google's dashboard, I only see three apps' data backed up, and they're all system apps (wallpaper, settings, market).
With CWM-based recovery, it took a while and seemed to backup to my SD card, but I can't find where it put anything.
I would prefer to use Carbon/Helium, so if someone could tell me what file or db I can access to clear/reset the desktop backup password, that will hopefully push me in the right direction.
Hope you'll help me.
Thank You

Easier way to restore apps?

I've just used Titanium Backup to restore about 100 apps from my Mum's old tablet to her new one.
I used the Batch Restore, which allowed to select the apps I wanted to restore but then I still had to tap through the permissions screens for each one, then Install, then (for some of them) cancel the Lenovo popup "Do you want to install this app to SD", then click Done and repeat for the next app, which was obviously quite tedious and long-winded. Even more so when I accidentally tapped Open a couple of times instead of Done, as Open appears in the same place as Install, meaning I had to start again to continue installing the remaining apps.
Couldn't it just copy the backed-up files (app and data) to the correct locations without any of these prompts, or is it necessary to do it this way to create the app icon in Apps? I don't care if it doesn't automatically put an icon on Home, as it never puts them where I want them anyway, so I'll just add them manually afterwards.
Is there any other app that can Restore apps without prompting?
