Newly Bought 6P - Nexus 6P General

I bought a 6P a couple weeks ago through a third party vendor. Unfortunately, it stalls when I start the login process. I've determined it's not software as I've downgraded from stock 7.1.1 to stick 6.0.1. It continues to do freeze and reboot. I've attempted several suggested fixes that I've found such as clearing the cache and factory resets, but there were no third party apps on the device to begin with. I'd rather not have to send the device back, but I'm not sure where else to go from here.

Honestly sounds like it could be a hardware issue, have you tried just leaving it to sit before even trying to log in, or skipping the initial log in entirely?

Yes, I've tried a multitude of different approaches, every time it freezes and reboots.

Sounds like a motherboard issue to me. If you boot into fastboot and leave it sit does it still reboot?

Is there any sort of alterations on it or fully stock? I assume you could get to bootloader at least to downgrade?

Fully stock. I was able to get to the bootloader to side load without having to unlock it.

No, it doesn't reboot in the bootloader, I'm starting to think it's a corrupted memory issue.

OK, so I did a final testing, as long as the phone isn't connected to any network, it will work properly, but the moment I'm connected to Wifi or mobile, it restarts.

If it happens when you connect to WiFi then it could be interference so maybe try it somewhere else with WiFi.

Maybe try a custom ROM and kernel or return it.

Are you sure your bootloader is locked? Does it say device locked on the bootloader screen? How did you downgrade from 7.x to 6.x without flashing a full image... because you can't do that with a locked bootloader. If you are actually unlocked, try fastboot formatting the partitions (format vs erase) and then flash a full image again using flash-all.bat

Like I said, I was walked through it by Huawei. I should have written it down for everyone because I can't seem to do it again. However, referring to the actual issue with the phone, it's not software. It is obviously hardware and I will be returning the phone. I'm hoping they'll replace the motherboard and send it back.

Google Music Only Allowing 4 Deactivations Per Year

I read today on Pulse that Google music is only allowing 4 device de-activations per year. What that means for us every were installing a new rom and using Google music, most of the time its seeing our device as a new device because of a new rom. They are only allowing 10 devices and once you get that full you have to deactivate one to add your new rom....I changed my rom 3 times last week alone.
Anybody have an idea about a work around for this?
This was just an FYI for anybody that didn't know.

As fast as it sucks, it gets better.
Google changes mind about device deactivations
Unofficially NOTEd
It's like using a banking app, back up data in tibu and you won't need "re-install" or activate the phone again. If I backup my banking app and restore it, I don't need to verify my device.
What if they tracked the deactivated devices and only allow 4 re-activations per year?
What if...
Let's wait to see what they decide to do. They are trying to figure it all out right now.
For a very limited time, google is allowing you to deactivate all your old devices while they upgrade their system. Good luck guys

That's only if/when you restore apps WITH DATA, which is generally not a good idea when you're switching out roms and kernels.

Unofficial T.W lollipop Roms (MAY) have broke LTE!?

Well I have been using these builds and now my LTE is is completely broke. I have the 4glte icon and called customer care and they said my network is fine. Now I might have to send my T-Mobile S5 in for repair. I have been working on it for 8 hour doing factory resets and unrooting
And nothings bringing it back . I installed all the 5.0 builds exactly how op said to and didn't do any mods of any kind. Hope this isn't going to happen to more folks who are using unofficial 5.0 releases.

I have ran my international rom and restored my backup and found this to be a issue.
Upon restoring I have 5 bars...but, no icons what so ever. I rebooted and all returned to normal.
As for you.....when you unrooted did you Odin back to stock? LTE is tied to the bootloader, not the modem.
This is the main reason I'm not building 5.0 until T-Mobile drops our official firmware.

Yes I odin back to stock. Out of box stock and didn't root for a while just to let it settle. I have the icon for 4glte but I'm only getting 2g and edge speeds. I went driving around even went to T-Mobile store where I no they get 4glte and nothing the sales person at T-Mobile was confused as well. He thinks its shot as well. I'm going to mess with it for a couple of more days to see what happens cause I don't want a refurbashed phone that I paid 690 bucks for. If it don't get fixed I'm just going to make the jump.
P.S You all be careful with those TW LP unofficial roms. I should have waited for the official build from T-Mobile. Just saying. Don't get me wrong the devs did great work but I don't think they're even aware of this. I didn't want to post in there threads and make them up set. And really I don't know which one actually broke it. There like 4 of them I tried. I use WiFi most the time I should have been more wise

Makes me wonder whether or not you got a funky modem in all your testing, and it's stuck. Sometimes it can be crazy hard to get a modem to stick when upgrading. No telling what might be happening when downgrading. Sorry about your issues but thanks for the heads up.

Yeah I'm thinking the same thing. Between all the back and forth from 5.0 to 4.4.2 and just 5.0 to 5.0. And international back to regular T-Mobile. I'm thinking something was corrupted or just plain fried . I went completely back to the latest bootloader K2 and modem and the LTE is just gone. But like I said I still get the 4glte icons in status bar and it all looks good but then when I run test speed test and other test it shows I'm only running at 2g or even edge speeds its super slow and I've even rerooted and tried other custom Roms from 4.4.2 that worked great before I started messing around with these unofficial TW LP 5.0 Roms. Its very odd for sure I see myself having to go ahead and do the jump but hey I'm not mad at anyone one of those devs that ported these tw 5.0 Roms over to our SM-G900T's they always tell us to flash at own risk and besides I think I'm ready to move on from s5 at this point anyways time to move to a new territory.. Lol

Yes I have used yours as well @The Sickness. But I think your was the latest KitKat NH5 ROM and I'm actually back to it now I've never had any issues with you ROM. It just seems that the LP 5.0 ported Roms that are actually international are the one that gave me this issue. Its been two days now and still LTE is non existent. Im going to hold off till wensday and try a few more things to see if I can get this worked out. If not then that's why I have the jump deal I'll just have to either send it in for repair or just jump to another device.
I could just wait for the actual release of the 5.0 firmware for SM-G900T and try that and maybe by some miracle that will solve the LTE issue.

After using one of the 5.0 ports, I tried to nandroid back. This resulted in a full system force-close. I was able to install a CM11 ROM (no gapps, skip set up) because this is how I've fixed this force-close issue before. I restored nandroid again (NK2 rooted), still had a full system force close. So I then used Odin (yuck had to boot into windows, I wish they would fix heimdall for Linux), and that did fix my system force-close. What's more, since the NK2 tar does not wipe any data, my phone was just like before I started this whole exercise. EXCEPT I had no LTE or WiFi. What fixed it was I odined back to NK2, once Odin was done I pulled the battery and factory reset (do not auto-reboot). The new Odin tars don't wipe data like the old days with the S2/3/4. After the factory reset I noticed that I still didn't seem to have a good LTE or WiFi signal, but I had to drive home. I did not log in to my Google account and set the phone up, i just got in my car and split. On that 40 minute drive home, I noticed LTE kick in. I tested it by loading a random YouTube video. The video loaded up quick and with good quality, so I knew I had LTE. When I got home I connected to my WiFi, the signal seemed normal. At that point I decided to Odin CF Autoroot and TWRP. Once I did that I was able to restore my nandroid that I had made that morning, and luckily it worked perfectly and the LTE and WiFi have been great since. I don't know if you've tried this, but if you haven't, I hope it works for you.

I also had problems going back by nandroid from LP roms with the result in android crashes. Since I still keeps a rom on my phone just in case of issues like this and was able to get lte back and use titanium to extract my nandroid for all my saved data. I guess we just have to be a bit more patient or just invest into a nexus.

I tried the following: while back on 4.4.2 I reflashed NK2 bootloader and Modem vua Odin. When the phone restarted i ticked off Wifi and Wifi calling. Ran a speed test and got these results. I believe it may have something to do with wifi calling. You may have a better idea being a dev. Let me know how it goes.

BroadAnywhere

I haven't used my S4 since December because I started having problems. Phone became very unresponsive, apps randomly closing, the camera fails to work and the sound has completely stopped. Ever once in awhile the phone will revert back and work perfectly but 10 minutes later it's back to being a brick. Today I read and found the Broadanywhere virus on my phone that I think has been the problem with the phone for the longest time now.
I removed it with CM Security but still having problems.

I've been thinking that since the beginning. The camera started working tonight whilst out at a bar. And the sound randomly came back on but since have stopped.... again!

I think I fudged up my install / wondering if it's worth it to upgrade.

So, I feel asleep belly down on my tablet and awoke to find the file manager open to a root directory. I'm thinking I accidentally deleted some system files because a lot of apps are crashing with java.lang.runtimeexception unable to start process. Should I just give in and re-enable OTA?
The update really does look attractive and apparently addresses many ram issues. Is there any way to retain root? While preferred, I could live without it.
Thanks in advance!

First statement is FUD. Second may or may not be true depending on current firmware version/level. Agree with last sentence. Let's fully assess situation before plunging in the knife. You failed to do that before and bricked one (if not) two devices.

Tablet still works okay enough. I think I've narrowed down the issue to android web view. On apps such as Reddit is fun, it loads up text posts just fine but crashes as soon as it tries to load up an imgur link or some other webpage. Apps such as dolphin crash immediately, but chrome works just fine because it uses its own engine for html interpretation and rendering.

Can't comment on your specific question; I have no direct experience with Google's tools. If you continue to experience problems I would lean toward installing another rom (Nexus or CM) since you have the ability to unlock your bootloader which offers the most flexibility. If that is unattractive for whatever reason then you may want to go with Safestrap v3 which can then be used to 'repair' FireOS. There is some risk with this approach but you would retain root and could uninstall Safestrap after FireOS is made whole again.

It's one or the other:
- unlock bootloader and replace rom (possibly with a good version of FireOS)
- install Safestrap and replace rom in stock slot as your space is limited. FireOS remains an option.
Both paths involve risk. Bootloader unlocking is more complicated but offers better recovery capability if something goes wrong. Safestrap is much easier (quicker) but has limited recovery capability if your rom gets borked. Bootloader unlock is permanent unless you try to flash a full image from a Amazon (only use FireOS images recommended in these forums).

Soft key issue

I have an issue that's cropped up in the last few days... My soft keys keep stopping working.
Both the back and recents keys just stop responding.. Locking and unlocking phone brings them back.
I don't seem to have installed anything new, I've reinstalled my kernel, and even factory reset and reinstalled my Rom, and it still happens
My Rom is the latest xtrastolite 5.1.1 which I have been using for quite some time, and kernel is latest unikernel (again using a while)
Any ideas?
This is why Google killed hardware buttons. Either they die out or they malfunction either due to hardware or software or both.
Flash stock, if it does not help, give Samsung a visit.

Well, I'm out of ideas. The last time I did manual fixes by modifying system files was back on Jellybean. Haven't rooted since then. I'm outdated haha...
