Hello everyone,
I got a redmi note 4 yesterday. I'm living in germany and noticed that the overall network quality isn't the best, so I tried to find out if I could optimize settings within the mtk engineering mode (*#*#3646633#*#*).
However, I went to world mode and changed it from 12 to 2 by accident. Now Ihave no signal at all and I am unable to undo it. Is there a way to reset settings or will it be fixed by switching to another ROM/factory reset?
I tried to google to find a solution, but there is basically nothing helpful to find about the world mode. In fact there is basically nothing to find at all.
Any help would be appreciated. Also - if there is - I'd like to get an explanation what world mode is and what it changes.
Hi,
I believe flashing a new ROM should bring back the default settings.
I say this because I once flashed the deep sleep fix mod which removed LTE option from the menu & it was back to defaults after a clean flash with SP flash tools.
As for your network quality there is some debate around different baseband modems.
In saying that P62 seems to be the preferred for stability & battery currently.

Thanks for your reply. For the case nothing else will do it, I'll try to change to ROM. I'm currently waiting to get my bootloader unlock verified to switch over to another rom.

You can use SP flash tools without unlocking bootloader.

I tried a factory reset without success, but I somehow managed it by setting world mode to 16 (whatever it did, it worked).
Edit: after some research, I found out that I'm running on a global rom with a CN-code, which basically means it is a modified version (fake rom). Only difference I found is a swiftkey keyboard. full code is Global 8.0.5.0.0 MBFCNDG. Just for the case anyone might have it too: get rid of it!
At least the device itself is original.
Gonna try to unlock the phone and get an original firmware on my own when I'm home.

Yep definite vendor/reseller modded rom which are usually added bloat or at worst malware/suspect apps. Best flashing an official rom via SP flash tool asap.

Hi there... how did you fix the world mode. I'm having the same issue, but I tried to set the World Mode to 12 or 16, and it shows me a notification that says "Waiting rf reboot". How much time do I have to wait? What else did you do?
Thanks in advance.

ive been having same issue Network not availiable and also where i normally have 4g service i know only get 3g.Ive flashed several different roms still same issue.Could this be glitch in vzw AWS system? Is there any other radios we can flash? I notice that it take a really long time to do network hand offs too. Like I am talking a few minutes to switch from 4g to 3g or 3g to 4g. Signal bars show full, but there is not data and then they go gray and then it takes a few mins and they go blue.
basically im having the same issue as post #2 in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332500
It also sounds similar to this thread too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292982&highlight=signal+issue
Is there something that can be done to test my radios, access point apns, etc.? I am on liquidsmooth 2.8 and have this problem ever since i got the phone (i bought it and flashed cyanogenmod last week). I also notice that under access points, i dont have anything listed and when trying to add an apn, and hit save, nothing happened
Anyone have any issue similar. I found some threads but they were not any help
Try getting a new SimCard. Those can sometimes go bad when being transferred from phone to phone. They are free anyways too.
im going to try that a little later today. thanks

Sure. If you think that'll help I would really appreciate it. So you think go back to stock and then reflash to liquid?

Possibly. Something could have been corrupted in the process. If it still does it on stock go to Verizon and complain.
i flashed back to stock and my download speed is 800 and upload is 85. it shows I have a 4g signal and the system status shows that my signal is -102 or -98.
anyone else have any ideas?
So things ive tried:
1. new sim.
2. back to stock touchwiz through odin
3. flash stock modem through odin and stock kernel
4. doing the whole process to root and stuff manually, then installed a customer recovery manually and then flashed a new rom, still no results
are we going to call this hardware failure? or is there any other reset type thing i can do

Most likely Hardware issue since all the steps have been tried. Unless it's only in your area. Have you tried to go somewhere else on a different tower?
yes i have. my s3 does not have any issues here, so that i why im guessing its the phone
This might help someone having these no service/ no sim card no GPS fix issues with the galaxy SGSIII i9300, that might have to do with efs folder change and IMEI corruption.
Okay so i solved these no service issues and ill share my experience so maybe someone will find it helpful.
So the issue has to do with the famous efs folder conundrum, though tbh im not a developer so i cant say exactly what was the issue or even be a 100% sure it was the efs folder.
So I got me a used malfunctioning i9300 which i then repaired at a lab and proceeded to install a new TW based ROM, my first mistake was not backing up efs folder and creating a nandroid, but i havnt realized that yet. After flashing, I noticed that i have no GPS, but i didnt know if the GPS was working with original firmware because i neglected to check that or back it up, so i decided to put a pin in it for the time being and went on to check out some ROMs.
At first, I flashed couple of JB tw based roms, all was well (except for the gps), then i started to check out some KK roms, those didnt play well with my device, I got no service in every single rom i tried, You name it ive tried it, none fixed the service issue. Moreover i also tried a few JB AOSP based ROMs, among them the 4.3 JB PAC-man ROM, those had the same no service/no sim issues. Meanwhile whenever i un-root and flash with odin back to stock or restore a nandroid i made while on 4.3 foxhound ROM (with service working and a supposedly good copy of the efs folder) service is restored. I would also mention that I had more backups of the efs from the working “foxhound” i made with different tools and when i restored these folders when on a ROM with no service it didnt fix the issue.
Here are the solutions ive encountered and tried that didnt work:
-restoring efs with efs pro, samsung tool, efs backup -restore cmd tool.
-flashing latest firmware and flashing back to KK
-flashing all kinds of modems (those pre efs folder change (XXEMG4) and those after)
-flashing latest TWRP/CWM recovery
-flashing kernels
-trying to edit “nv_data.bin” with hex editor
-some more ways in trying to manipulate the efs folder.
-using samsung service codes on stock, which i found regarding this issue, except from the *#06# code, for imei, pretty much none worked for me.
Its important to mention that when on stock firmware or a JB TW based ROM i would see my baseband version in settings and when I tried the *#06# code for checking my imei it gave me a serial number with many digits that I assumed was indeed my correct IMEI number, and when i was on KK ROMs or non TW JB ROMs i would get the same popup with no numbers and in settings i would see “unknown baseband” .
To add to that, whenever i rooted and installed a KK ROM or a JB non TW ROM and tried to restore efs with efs professional i would get a message the device is not perm rooted (but thats neither here nor there).
This research took me about 5-6 days and the end of which i was ready to give up on having a KK rom or a non TW rom for that matter, NOTHING seemed to fix the problem. I just had some fight in me for one more hopeless attempt. I read somewhere that a flashing of cm 10.1 and then going to settings -> more and there change some network stuff from this to that would help -

Got to Network settings. You need to change Roaming to automatic and CDMA settings to RUIM/SIM (I *think* that is the name of it, I'm actually on TW temporarily as I'm troubleshooting some SDcard issues of my own)
Reboot and you should be back in business. Touchwiz doesn't have a way of changing of those settings which is why ODIN/stock doesn't fix it"
I said what the heck thats simple enough. I flashed CM 10.1.3 for i9300 and went into the settings but the options i read about werent the same as the settings i saw in my case,
so i did move one settings around in the settings-> more section, cant remember what it was and im on a different ROM by now,
it was nothing i knew about anyway (but you should give it a go and have a look, there are few options to choose from so you can eliminate your way to what makes sense).
I then went on to recovery to flash carbon rom 4.4 and to my enormous surprise i had service and connection and to my astonishment i also got back the GPS as a bonus ! yay ! I bet you forgot about that too by now…
This ends on a weird note though, though everything is at working order now and the IMEI number i get is the same as the one i get when on stock rom,
it does not match the number on the back of the phone under the battery. well mehh.. as long is its working.
Hope this helps someone.
You didnt mention that exact step. Changing "something from this to that" doesn't really count as being helpful.
Thanks for the post anyways.

Youre right, i couldnt find the thread that had the suggestion to install the 10.1 cm but my point was it didnt even apply to my situation because the options in "Setting -> more" werent compatible with what was suggested in the thread so i had to improvise and I just changed some setting i cant remember in "Settings -> More" but I realise that it would be more helpfull to say what i changed there exactly, but im not on cm 10.1 anymore and cant see what in there now.. the good news is that there werent many options to change there.
But i did went out and looked for the original comment that made me try this an it says -

so in my case i didnt see these exact same options so i changed what seemed to me the most related to the issue at hand.
I dont think i had to touch the roaming, again i dont have CM 10.1 installed so i dont recall exactly what were my options.
is it a solution mostly for Qualcomm chipset based I9300 ? someone can say ? European providers use different frequencies I guess hence different chipsets and parameters.

mine is the international version but as i mentioned it didnt work like described but the end result was the same. I f you have the LTE version Im not sure which option youre going to get in CM 10.1 settings -> more , but if youre having trouble with service and GPS and stuff like that i do suggest you try flashing CM 10.1 (compatible with LTE - not sure how it goes with CM and LTE compatibility) and check if you got the same options to make the changes to, if not, try and improvise based on what makes even a little sense, thats what i did.
It might be that the flashing of CM 10.1 itself is what fixes the problem, so if you change nothing it might help still, anyway this is pretty simple and quick to do so better start here than starting with other messier solutions.

Thank you, I was suspecting that you have a similar version than me. Well, in desperate cases anything can be tested (But some have told me not to mess with US versions as there is a risk of burning something )
Anyway the last version I could not flash , the CM 10.1 it was ejected with a file error soon despite 3 downlowd.
I will try with another more compatible version with Cyanogen.
Have a nice day

I had a similar experience only I also tried flashing CM 10.1 and it did not work. Although I have another imei, I have all my services running on the Stock 4.3. Now the only problem is that if I change to any other rom, does not connect to the wifi network.
I found something like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839367&page=4
But neither worked. Yesterday I tried to repartition the phone and almost killed. I spent two weeks looking for a solution, and tried them all, but did not work, I think I will draw on the last and the only thing I think work ... The box.
The octopus box (or similar).
KK roms are beautiful ... but no matter what, I have no wifi in another rom than the stock 4.3 lol.
Thank you for your contribution! as you say: I hope you serve someone else.

yeah thats some BS those signal and issues on the i9300.. they really did a number on that one.
sorry my thing didnt help, i too tried everything and got nothing.
Maybe try flashing CM 10.1.3 and changing those options in settings-> more, Might be that just flashing CM 10.1 wont do it, I did change something ther but cant remember what it was, i wrote in my post what someone else had ther in the options but i had different ones but I still changed one option there ( what i thought might be connected to the issue ).
anyway dude i feel you its crying shame whole thing, and so many are posting about these issues all the time, im kinda hating on samsung cause they always seem to mess up like that.
Hope you solve this somehow..
Hi everyone. I'm having some serious (or at least I think so) problems with my I777. I live in Colombia, and I bought it over two years ago, had it shipped over by a friend, unlocked. Up until today I'd been using it normally, without any major problems.
However, the last couple of days it started behaving strangely, (turning itself off every once in a while, losing data, etc), so I decided to update my rom today.
I tried to install a new CyanogenMod 4.4 from this site, but I got some kind of status 7 error and it didn't behave properly after that.
Next thing I did to try to fix it was flash a stock JB 4.1.2 rom via Odin.
It worked, but that's when the major problem struck... Apparently my phone got locked for AT&T again or something. It's not recognizing my sim-card anymore. It shows the "no-sim" notification on the top bar, yet it also shows it has a signal (no data, just phone signal), even when my sim-card isn't inserted. When I go in the settings to try to access the mobile networks it says insert sim card even when it's in there.
I did a lot of searching and I used GalaxSimUnlock, which I got from this site too, and it confirms my phone is unlocked.
So basically... What the heck happened?? Is it possible that after three years of using it perfectly with my Colombian sim, the AT&T lock just "came back" or something after flashing a stock rom?
Any clue guys?
If you used galaxsimunlock the unlock is permanent.

After you flashed back to stock, did you try to root again and flash another custom ROM?
I could be wrong on this, but the AT&T stock firmware may not be giving you the choice to register the SIM or change the APN settings for you particular network. I can't confirm this though as I never flash to stock long enough to actually use it. I always root and go back to something else immediately afterwards.
The only suggestion I have is to go back to a custom ROM and try again.
If you are trying to go to KitKat, be sure you have the newest compatible recovery (CWM or TWRP) as the versions of those that work with JB will not allow you to flash a KitKat ROM. There are plenty of threads that will tell you what versions you need. If it's an SGH-i777 model then all you should need to get the proper recovery is to flash one of the two KK compatible kernels as the recovery is packaged with them.
Good luck!
Hy everybody. I'm here to took with you about a common problem on samsung s3. One week ago i notice that i can't receive calls, messages etc and i found the "not registered on network" problem. What actually i want to say, is the fact that it appear suddenly, my phone always have 4.3, i didn't upgrade nothing....the problem persist, i changed sim, modem.bin, flash 4.1, modified network connections from setting....nothing work!!! I always have signal but that's all....what can i do more? (and my imei has changed to this: 00499*******

thx man, i hope someone knows how can i solve the problem.
What had you done before you got to this issue of no cellular signal?
Did you flash a custom ROM etc..? Which version were you on before? 4.3?
What did you do after you found out about this issue? Did you by any chance flash an older version?
Because that tends to do that, atleast that's what happened to me.
I had a wrong/fake IMEI ("0049..."), which caused that I had no cell reception and couldn't use the phone to call or send/receive sms etc...
I googled a lot and I tried some of the TUT on the web, but nothing helped. Until I found a thread on the xda that said one could try to flash a newer stock ROM (don't know the exact thread).
So I went ahead and checked the version I was on...luckily it was 4.0.4
I then downloaded a newer stock ROM 4.3 for my region and flashed that using ODIN...once it passed I went to recovery: wiped cache and factory reset.
and voila...when I checked the IMEI code again, it was back to the original one.
If that doesn't help check the following thread on xda: here
I suspect he allowed the battery to run out, which corrupted the efs partition, as he says his phone was on 4.3 and didn't change anything until after the problem happened.
Flashing latest stock firmware is the first step, as suggested above, but I think the OP may have to pay for a repair. Make sure it works on 4.3 before you accept the bill.
I forgot to say, my battery got bigger before that happened, i can't fit it in my phone, is double than a normal one, i buy other battery, have this something to deal with the problem?

That's not good...bulging/expanding battery is a very bad thing and should be replaced asap.
Why it happens, is another thing...could be due to various reason such as thermal runaway or even acid leakage.
Fix that first before you move to any flashing and/or other stuff...

I already replaced it.
Fixed
Hi everybody, i finally sent the phone to service and they fixed it for 17€; everything ok, no problem occurred...i flashed stock 4.3 ROM, then CWM and SU, but....then....after one day of use, i forgot to shut down the phone and, again, removed the battery with the screen on....i connected quickly the battery and the phone started without press any button.....and then, surprise!!! Me trying to make a phone call: "Not registered to network"...fu**...but IMEI was still alright(w t f?). Third day i sent again the phone to the service and they told me that i am playing whit the soft (what man? just because i flashed CWM and SU? damn), i told them again what i do with the battery and they said is not true (now what i am supposed to do? they don't trust me) but fixed it again free..for first and last time. Now here is the question: what i need to back up in case that will happen again? It can't be fixed with a backup of IMEI/Modem file...
Go read the sticky thread in general forum.
Hello friends,
In a moment of a severe mental handicap, I appear to have flashed a Mi4(cancro) ROM in EDL mode when I was trying to unlock my bootloader.
(The reason was that the guide I was using had a broken download link, so I searched for the filename and downloaded from one of the mirrors I found. I did not realize I was now downloading a file with a different device prefix (cancro instead of kenzo.).
So after the unavoidable brick, I was able to recover by flashing a proper Kenzo MIUI rom with disabled device checks (Since the phone now thought it was a Mi4, I guess).
MIUI is booting, but most of the functions are broken:
- No camera
- No SIM/Service
- Can't adjust brightness
- No rotation
Maybe there's more stuff broken, but I did not check every corner.
I moved on to try CM13, but that won't boot up at all (just sits there at the boot animation).
So far everything I've tried to get the phone back into a working state has failed, but I'm still getting used to this phone's specifics, so I may have missed something.
Please tell me there is something I can do.
if you can get to the recovery then WIPE everything out (system, cache, etc) then install the stock MIUI for your note3, if it booted up then you can move on to any other Rom...

Thank you. I can indeed get to recovery, but I always end up without sim card and camera when I flash an official rom.
I just tried to go back to the shop rom from geekbuying, that at least made brightness and rotation work, but still no signal/camera. I feel there's some firmware missing or was overwritten by my stupid action and now there does not seem to be a simple way to get it back up.
EDIT: So I just found out that my IMEI is gone. I will try to use a guide to re-set it. Hopefully, that will get mobile service running again. Dunno about camera, though
