unlock bootloader. Check you're using suitable recovery image.
I have already unlock bootloader. I am still not able to install twrp3.0 recovery. I am running 5.1.1 android version

For stock ROMs use XZDR recovery. For custom ones recovery should be integrated in kernel.

From the XZDR Recovery info, they use a hack on stock roms, but it wont work with anything beyond 5.0, as it says in the zip file, given that the stock in this case is 5.1.1 i think XZDR Recovery is useless, could someone confirm that 2.8 works with Android 5.1.1?

this comes from the install.bat inside the XZDR Recovery zip file:
Code:
echo.
echo ##########################################################
echo #
echo # The unrooted installation does not work on Lollipop 5.1 based ROM's!
echo #
echo # rootkitXperia only works on ^(some^) Lollipop 5.0 ROM's.
echo #
echo # The installer will now exit, installation aborted!
echo #
echo #####
echo.
So what gives?, it works or it doesn't work on 5.1.1??? i'm confused to be honest

Well, it means that it will install perfectly on a already rooted 5.1.1 ROM, but won't install on an unrooted rom, as root exploit inside recovery installer can root only 5.0.2 ROMs.
So on 5.1.1 you will have to get root first, and then install recovery with option 1. Installation on ROM rooted with SuperSU.

Hi,
Currently I have NUT's dual recovery installed. Trying to install the latest TWRP 2.8 following TWRP's website, fails everytime. I know the Xperia recoveries are different from other devices.
I have a locked device. Is there a way to get the new recovery onto my Z2? Even from flashing from the current recovery maybe?
Regards,
B
No, custom kernel/recovery requires unlocked bootloader, you'll have to unlock or wait for nut to update dual recovery
Sent from my Xperia Z2 using Tapatalk
But after flashing monxDified I had 2.8. When I wanted to use eXistenz, I went back to stock and flashed Dual recovery again
Flashing TWRP
Sorry to hijack the thread but I have a related question.
I'm running Doomlords CWM recovery and .402, unlocked and rooted. I'd like to update to TWRP. All of the guides I've found on flashing TWRP assume you don't already have a custom recovery. Do you suppose I could just install TWRP through TWRP Manager over the existing CWM? Would I need to flash a new kernel patched version of the stock ROM that supports TWRP?
Thanks in advance.
No issues so far running the teamwin recovery on LB.

MonxDified includes 2.8 with his rom if you must run 2.8 now find a rom with it included otherwise wait for Dual recovery to be updated.

If TWRP can be flashed from Recovery with a ROM, surely it must be able to flash TWRP on its own???

NO, Z2 doesn't have a separate recovery partition therefore, as I understand it, recovery needs to be flashed as part of the kernel.

Yes you are correct, looking into it further, with locked bootloader the recovery is actually located in /system/bin therefore some magic involved in booting recovery, but my point stands in that the recovery has to be modified from standard to be bootable from its non standard locale.
I like to root my new phone, Samsung S6 Edge, my buildnumber is : G925FXXU3C019 en
my Modelnumber is SM-G925F.
I can not find a good place with root instructions for this one, can anyone point me
into the right direction? I don't care about tripping knox.
Any help will be welcome.

I'm also new to this phone/section of the forum, I flashed only this with odin, phone was rooted with SU installed, though TWRP wont be.
TWRP can be installed by odin either before or after unikernel (based on my experience.)

I'am not very familiar with rooting. So when I understand good I have to do this:
Put this kernel, twrp and su on SD card.
Then flash twrp with Odin
Then flash kernel from above ur with twrp
Then flash SU with twrp
The unikernel from above url is the good one for my phone?
after that all is done, is that correct?

for root, all you have to do is flash the unikernel (link i provided earlier post) via odin.
theres no need to put anything onto phone sd, unikernel comes with SU preinstalled.
if you want twrp, just flash that also via odin, either before or after unikernel.
this solution worked for me (G925I, also works with F).

You must downgrade. It is fast and easy. Also, you CANNOT flash a modified .ftf firmware.

It is easier on kit kat build 314, because the old XZDR (Z2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.21-RELEASE.installer) roots and installs the recovery in one step. When the phone reboots you can install a Marshmallow ROM and that's it.

Nah, Magisk's in-built root is good enough. No need to complicate thigs by adding other stuff

LineageOS for Redmi Note 4x isnt official yet…
Prerequisites:
Unlocked bootloader (via http://en.miui.com/unlock/)
Working fastboot and adb
Custom recovery, e.g. twrp: https://dl.twrp.me/mido/
Installing twrp recovery on mido
* download the recovery file to your computer, e.g. twrp-3.1.1-0-mido.img
* enter fastboot mode
a) shut down phone
b) press volume down + power button, release power in ~4 after the phone vibrates
c) from terminal type
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-3.1.1-0-mido.img
Magisk Installation:
From the phone download the latest versions of the following files:
http://tiny.cc/latestmagisk
https://build.nethunter.com/android-tools/no-verity-opt-encrypt/ (get latest zip)
As an alternative download the files to your computer and then push them to the phone with:
Code:
adb push /sdcard/Magisk-v14.0.zip
adb push /sdcard/no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip
Reboot into twrp recovery (`adb reboot recovery` from the computer) and:
1. Flash no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip
2. Flash Magisk-v14.0.zip
3. Reboot.
If the phone still boots into the Mi Recovery and not into TWRP, then enter fastboot mode and do `fastboot boot twrp-3.1.1-0-mido.img` (with the correct path to the IMG file).
---HELP NEEDED ---
I am not able update magisk to 16.0 , i tried every different way the phone Goes to BOOTLOOP. But MAGISK 14.0 WORKS FINE. PLEASE HELP .

Hello guys,
I have the SGP321 running on android 5.1.1. It is rooted with SuperSU and I installed TWRP via [NUT]'s XZDualRecovery. When I try to flash Resurrection Remix (same error with LineageOS 14.1 btw) the installation fails with error: execute updater binary in zip. Two lines above (but not in red text) it says that this rom is meant to be installed on a SGP321 (which I have) but my device is a [empty space]. I don't know if this has something to do with the mentioned error. A Google search led me to posts with the same error, but mostly on the OP One and the Moto G4. They say that you have to update the bootloader. Has anyone experienced the same problems with their Xperia TabZ and has found a solution to this?

Recovery 2.8.7.0 is not compatible with with the lastest custom firmwares like android 7.1.2 or 8.1.
To flash them successfully you need to flash recovery version at least 3.2.1.x to your device.

Good to know, thank you! How can I flash the newer version of TWRP? I tried to flash via Fastboot but get the error "FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)". I think this is because Sony's devices don't have a recovery partition.

Use Rashr tool.
Download twrp.img from the link above. Flash it to recovery via Rashr and reboot. After you can enter it via Vol+ on boot.
Rashr says I need a FOTA kernel partition, how do I get that? Thank you for your help, hope that this was my last question
EDIT:
OK I tried different things with Rashr. I uninstalled XZDualRecovery with the flashable zip and flashed full stock rom 5.1.1 with Flashtool and rooted it again. I was not able to install the latest twrp by any means using Rashr.
I found another solution:
1. I installed (again) XZDualRecovery and booted into TWRP 2.8
2. I flashed the Marshmallow Version of Resurrection Remix (https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...pment/rom-resurrection-remix-m-5-7-3-t3440876) --> This installed the CM-Recovery (Vol-) AND TWRP 3.2.1 (Vol+)
3. Booted into TWRP 3.2.1
4. Successfully flashed an Android 8.1 Rom
