Please Help! Can I still access my files?? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
I have made a serious mistake, and I feel so stupid! I was wondering if any you awesome people at XDA would be able to save me.
I have an LG G2 vs980 Lollipop 5.0.2
So, all I wanted to do was change my startup screen to get rid of that boring LG logo and replace it with something neater. I went over to Google and found a guide on how to do this, and followed the steps 1 by 1. Everything actually worked out perfectly, but it wasn't until after I was locked out of my phone that I realized that I had used a startup image that was not compatible with my LG G2! (Total face palm!). Now, whenever I power my phone, it flashes that "neat" image that I replaced the stock one with - before the screen goes completely blank. Not good at all.
So my question is this - Is there a way I can acess my system folder without having access to my phone? I know EXACTLY what file I need to remove/edit to solve this problem! In fact, that is what is frusturating me the most. It's not some random error message out of the blue that I know nothing about. I know exactly what the problem is, I just don't know if I have access to the solution. I just really hope I don't have to wipe everything back to stock all because of a lousy startup image.
If anybody can help me access my system folder so I can switch out the bad file for the default one, and get access to my phone again - I would be so forever grateful! Thank you in advance to anybody that can save me!
Much appreciative,
Terri (Psyintz)

You can flash TWRP 3.x.x using adb and access system from there, as it has a built-in file manager in it.

Really?? That would be great! However, I am unable how to go about doing this. All of the guides I can find require access to my phone in order to do this. I tried using this guide (https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-twrp/) and when I try to run the "adb reboot bootloader" command, it says "error: device (null) not found." I am starting to get worried that there is nothing I can do. Does anybody know how I would go about installing TWRP? Or am I out out of luck? Thanks again in advance!
Sincerely,
Terri

In order to use adb you must have USB debugging enabled, had you have it enabled?
If not you can use lg flash tool 2014 to flash stock rom, there is a way to flash it with out wiping, by using normal mode.
Follow this guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
As mentioned in the guide about Normal mode:
Normal Flash: Flash ROM without losing any data. Only use this when you need to fix system error. Beware of boot loop when flashing ROM that differ from current ROM on your phone or MOD ROM.

Yes. I had to enable USB Debugging during the process of swapping out my bootanimation files. However, I am still recieving that "error: device (null) not found." message.

[Q] Desire S dead after failed update

Hi,
I'm in desperate need for any help. I'll describe my situation:
After the phone offered me an update from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5, it remained screwed. When I returned to the phone after I started the update, I could see a red triangle with an exlcamation mark. Gradually, I found out how to access the recovery menu and the HBOOT. I did some googling in hope to solve my problem by myself, so a guy on a Czech android forum uploaded some PG88DIAG file which the HBOOT started loading for a while but always ended with an error like 'no image or wrong image'.
So I figured my phone data have gone to hell and moved on to try rooting the device. Again, I followed a guide so as not to mess anything up, but it seems that the odds are against me. I installed the driver, unistalled HTC sync, ran the phone in the USB fastboot mode, launched the unrevoked application with admin rights, turned every possible feature of my AV off and I just kep looking at the bloody 'waiting for device' message. Tried it on another PC, too.
If it can be of any use, my HBOOT version is 98.0002.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
(Make sure the drivers are installed on your PC) Boot into fastboot then reflash your stock rom.
Well, as a newbie, I have no idea how to reflash ROM. Care to help?

Download the RUU from here: http://www.filefactory.com/f/c64d333a2755a421/, then run it on your PC while your device is in fastboot.
Thanks, it worked! Now, could someone recommend me some ROM? I think it would be quite a pity not to root the phone now that've lost all data anyway.

It's fine, but if you want more speed, you could try a new kernel like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1100396.
Ok, but what do I do with the kernel? Just install a file from the recovery like ROMs?

Yes. Make sure you wipe the dalvik cache after you flash it.
Thanks. I have a tiny problem with the custom ROM, though. When I try to access the sound notification change (the one for messages), it says that Sound set has unexpectedely stopped (my translation) and it keeps crashing.
Is it a known bug in that ROM?

Ask that question (or raise the issue) in the rom's thread.
I can't, it says I don't have enough posts to post in there.

[Q]Sony BootLoop Solution??

[Q]Sony BootLoop Solution??
Only post here is somebody get the solution of bootloop problem..
i think that the only think that we can do is wait for someone that posts an update.zip to be flashed via recovery, obviously for the different versione..mine is 16gb 3g (europe sgpt114it)...your is?
I understand that we're all happy we got root, but you gotta be careful running out and deleting/freezing everything without a proper way to restore!
Also, these question threads should all be moved to general.
sorry for posting here, but I can see many people facing this similar boot loop issue & other threads are getting flooded, that is why I posted here..
Lets try to find some way as of now to get rid of this frustrating boot loop !!!
EDIT:
Can anyone tell me, what exactly should be present inside those update.zip?
I am not able to unzip or see the content of signed-nbx03_001XXXXXXXXX.zip, giving some error !!!
it gives errors because the zip is encrypted
what if someone posts a full rom dump and i flash all the files manually via adb?
I tried with another zip and now in Recovery Mode , getting below error:
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Since some files are encrypted or contain personal keys, I would think that this would be not advisable. Especially if you have the 3G version (IMSI keys, eyc.)
However, if you can remember what was the last action you performed before the bootloop (for example, uninstalled a particular system app), I would be happy to find the .apk and/or relevant system folder for you so you can install it via ADB (I suppose this would be possible, provided you still have ADB access and root/su).
I was trying to change the fonts using FONT CHANGER, I have not deleted any of the default apps or anything.

****.. thats not good.. you cant even reflash the same version of update..
you could wait for another update from sony, or wait for some hack of recovery, or hm... warranty?
are you able to get into recovery?
I am able to go into Recovery Mode, tried updating thru sdcard but I think we dont have the proper firmware to restore!!!
Its under warranty but donno wanna go there, it needs a solution coz I will again try to change fonts for sure
Did you try looking at condi's post? I am not quite sure what condi managed to achieve, but it sounds at least relevant.
Also, bear in mind I have posted a link to the contents of the (stock) font folder. If we knew exactly what changes are made by this application, it would be possible to revert them. If you can find out, I can find the stock files for you so you can manually reverse this issue.
EDIT: Do NOT try any of the above -- according to sapphire88. You've been warned!
tried both the way, by replacing the fonts with the original ones and by editing the build.prop...the results is that now i'm stucked at the sony logo (no more one time access to the home screen) ...contacted sony to ask them if i could have the original firmware in update.zip format...perhaps (i don't really think that they will give it to me)...
Well, this still makes no sense however. Can we approach the developer of Font Changer and ask the sort of changes the application is performing? I assume that it is not just replacing fonts, but also some system files that point to the fonts that are being used. If we could track all changes and reverse them, surely this would fix the issue.
What about condi's downgrade/upgrade option? (you said it did not work)
Also, do you still have access to ADB (perhaps in recovery)? If you do, then you can still essentially find ways to fix this issue. But for the time being let's black list Font Changer.
i haven't used an app to change the fonts, i've manually replace the three clock fonts (only those three files), and it ended in a bootloop, in recovery adb doesn't work and i can't no more access to the home screen to use adb..
anyone know about Safety Mode?? How to enter into safety mode.
Note: I am NOT talking about Recovery mode..

ADB is available in recovery - just wait a minute or two - it will become available. But its not fully working as in normal boot. Check it, you can 'adb push' some files, maybe you could turn your fonts to stock ones?

Yes, I figured it out some time ago, press power + vol-down, and keep vol-down pressed until tab fully start system.
ohh, so safe mode of no use as we are stuck with boot loop !!!

Unable to install gapps through recovery

I've been trying for the last 3 hours to unlock the bootloader on my Xperia Tablet Z (SGP 311).
The issue I appear to be having is the driver. I get the Windows sound of a unregonised device.
I've followed the Sony guide and also tried with FlashTool, but it tells me I need to install the drivers they provide, which I've done but still unable to to unlock the bootloader.
Can anyone help, as this is driving me mad

OK, I think I've managed to unlock the bootloader, as I finally got the drivers to work.
Now, how to install 'pollux-windy', as when I boot into 'fastboot', I don't see anything on the screen of my tablet? I've put the image on the tablet and extracted the 'boot' image, but I don't know how to access it to run?

Can anyone assist a man in need?
Something has happened, as when I now reboot the device, all I get is 'Free Xperia' and the blue man?
Any ideas?
Great news, I've got it working, finally and such a relief.
However, I've added gapps.zip to the device, but when going into the recovery, I'm unable to see that zip to install it. When I look on the device using file manage, it's there?
Any ideas why I can see it on the device and I know it's there, but I can't install it from the recovery?
Can anyone assist, as I don't even have the 'Play' store...
Thanks in advance.
was the gapps on the internal of your memeory, what recovery are u using? if u r using cm10.1 it has cwm as the recovery nd it should mount every locate accurately. my suggestion nd what i do is inhave a micro-sd in my tablet. if u have a micro-sd i would put the file on the card nd when in recovery go to the external. but it sounds like to me that u need go back in folders to root of the system. and got to data/media nd that should show files that u might have transfered from any 4.1.2 rom

Issue resolved, thanks for the pointer skiwong20.
Basically, it was in a folder called '0' that must've been created at some point and not the root level of the SD card. But all now working and thanks for the pointer!

[Q] Stuck in a Bootloop after modifying device in build.prop

Help! I made the foolish decision to try and mess around in my G3's build.prop without really knowing what I was doing. My phone is currently stuck in a bootloop, not getting past the verizon splash screen. I have attempted booting into recovery mode and factory resetting, but for one reason or another, the phone won't do it and it ends up loading the splash screen over and over again. I have also researched flashing the stock rom onto the device with the LG flash tool. But, when I try to do this, the tool gives me an error saying that the "Device Model is different" because according to the build.prop, it is a Nexus 5.
Does anyone know of a method that can help me get this stupid thing working again?
I have seen build.prop files cut in half because it was a bad file editor. I hope u saved a copy. Posible reboot to fast boot and replace? Rom toolbox has nice interface for editing build.prop.

Cool. I was going to mention that their may be a force or overide in the lg flashing software. Manual was one of the was to flash. any input you can add on how you did it would be great as I have read people have run into this before. their is no need to change the phone type to download apps from the market that are not compatible with your phone. The following link allows you to download any app and then you can sideload it (for future reference)
http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/?id=ca.halsafar.genesisdroid
usage. go to the link. replace [ca.halsafar.genesisdroid] in your browser with the app you looking to download from the play store using the ending link in the play store address. then click the blue generate button on the page. a new green button to download the file will appear.
glad it worked out for ya. And check out rom tool boxs build.prop editor. very nice.

Boot Logos!

Just flash the zip in TWRP to change your boot logo. These should work for any model of the G6 Play. All backgrounds are white with the exception of the original boot logo. This was done to cover up that annoying bad key or N/A message. Enjoy!
Hey, thanks for this! If I do a design, could you make it into one of these? For example, this one?

Yep, check back in like 10-15min and I'll make that a logo.
Edit: Done!

This took me a few hours. Hope you folks like it. I'll probably make a few more over the next several days.
Is there a tutorial anywhere on how make these?
These are great and just what I need, however, I can't seem to the zip files when I'm booted into TWRP on my XT1922-3 (I think it has something to do with not being able to find a download for XT1922-3_no_dm-verity_boot.img that still exists anywhere). So is there a way to flash this using fastboot?
I tried unzipping and using the command > 'fastboot flash logo logo.bin' which it said was successful, but I still see the bad key or N/A.
It would be great if anyone can explain how to get this to work for me.

You shouldn't need a no verity boot.img
You can flash the dmverity disabler then magisk.
If you already have TWRP, then dmverity has already been disabled. Or your phone wouldn't boot.
But if you need it

Thanks, yes, I downloaded that already and put the zip file into the root directory, but TWRP doesn't see it to be able to install/flash it.
As I don't need the phone rooted, as I'm just setting it up to sell on, I think I'll just reflash the stock firmware and see if I can relock the bootloader and get rid of the N/A and/or Bad Key messages, so it is like oem from the factory, for whoever buys it.

That's because TWRP can't read encrypted storage. Has to on your SD card.
These are really cool! Appreciate you sharing what you made and getting the annoying "bad key" done away with. Did you follow a specific tutorial to make these or you just already knew how? I am interested. I would like to make some is why I ask. I use Ubuntu on my home computer and I have gimp. I haven't ever really messed with it much but I plan on setting down with it soon ,hopefully this weekend and this would be a cool project I believe to start out. I'll search around here on xda and see what all I can find on boot logos. Thank you! Also thank very much for the custom twrp recovery!! If it wasn't for you I don't believe the Moto g6 play would be able to install GSI roms. :good:
