can't install facebook messenger because code -505 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I have Xperia Z5 compact with Nougat. I have been very happy with it since Nougat but lately I noticed fb messenger could not be updated because code -505. I tried deleting it's cache and data but that did not help. Uninstalled it but can't install it again because -505. Then I tried deleting app data for play store and google play services but this did not help either! Now I am just without facebook messenger which is not very cool
Any ideas what to do?

Download the latest messenger app from apkmirror, and install it as a normal apk, that's it, problem solved
==If I Helped You, Support Me And Press The Thanks Button....just for support ? ===

I have same problem sony z5 compact

Did not help for me I received a message something like package is in conflict with current package with the same name. (sorry, translating from Czech). But messenger is NOT installed so what package can conflict with it?

Seems like the messenger data is still in the system although the app is uninstalled, you can't help it, you have to reset data

Please be more specific. I just want to fix this, so what do you mean by "you have to reset data"? Do you I go to filesystem, look for some messenger related folder and delete it? If yes then which one would it be?

You can't go inside the data of apps unless you're rooted, so your only choice is to factory reset your phone to delete all data...

It's not the obb file ?
I meant the Data inside the data partition which exist In:
../data/data/ and it's hidden from user by default, you can't access it unless you're rooted.

Oh my... I don't want to go through factory reset and set up of everything again so soon How easy you think would be the rooting and is there a chance that my current setup would survive that?

Not sure you can root, you have android 7, there is no temp rooting for it yet, and also if root failed then that might lead to a software brick, which can be solved by re flashing stock rom which is a bigger thing
So I'd vote for the "reset data"

How to remove an exisiting Google account without wiping and WITHOUT root?

My phone was just stolen and so I am temporarily using an older Gingerbread device I had laying around. The problem is that my wife used it for a period of time and so its "locked" to her Google account. I realize that with root its fairly easy to disassociate the device from the primary Google account, but I have been unable to find out how to do it WITHOUT root. Can anyone help?? I really don't want to fully wipe the device if possible! The phone in question is running 2.3.4.

That is incorrect. You are unable to delete the primary account associated with your phone, that is why I posted this thread. Does anyone know of another way??

Even if you have two (or more) accounts it will not allow you to delete the "primary" one without doing a factory reset.....

So the link provided does give instructions, however the problem is as follows:
"Remove an account
You can remove an account to delete it and all information associated with it from your phone, including email, contacts, settings, and so on.
You can’t remove the first Google Account you signed into on the phone, except by deleting all personal information from your phone. See Privacy settings to learn now to do that."
I am still stuck here, does anyone know how to sort this out?
Not sure if this still works...I did this when I had my G1...go to Settings>applications click on all scroll down to Gmail and delete data.
Unfortunately that didnt help...
What else do you see in the application list? Is there a google accounts? Or maybe Google apps? Anything that starta with Google? Try delete that data

So the list of services that include "Google" in the title include the following:
1) Gmail
2) Google Backup Transport
3) Google Calendar Sync
4) Google Contacts Sync
5) Google Partner Setup
6) Google Play Movies and TV
7) Google Play Store
8) Google Search
9) Google Services Framework
10) Google Sky Map
11) Google Translate
12) Google Voice
yeah, you cannot delete the account ... You have only option to factory reset and again create a new one.
I did the same way... If any one knows let me know.
Perhaps there is another way : I've don't tested it. You´re Phone must be rooted. You can delete the file " accounts.db. Find it in data > system >accounts.db. and Reboot the Phone.
But you will do it on your own Risk. Imho a Factory-Reset is the better way. :good:

Factory Reset Doesnt restore apps

Have a problem with my TFP, downloaded and updated to JB using this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909819
Tried getting rid of some bloatware however i obviously deleted something important as now on play store i constantly get Server error on open. Have tried the usual fix's on here of uninstalling clearing data re installing etc all to know avail.
So i tried doing a factory reset however it did not install anything i had removed, I then tried downgrading which didn't work either, so in short have i lost google play forever, does anyone have a base JB i can use to re install everything.
Please help been tinkering for hours now to no avail.
Interestingly cant use GMAIL app either.

You don't say if you are unlocked and have a recovery?
Doing a factory reset will not bring back deleted apps as it only wipes the cache etc.
Re installing should have brought them apps back but I don't know how you are tying to re install.. Can you give a little bit more information on what I have asked please.

You will not be able to just install it. You will have to copy it into system/app folder using a file manager that has root support like es file explorer or root explorer.
Here is the file from the new JB update.

Scroll down to Google play services and google play store and force stop both and clear data and cache for both.

Any reason why you can't unlock the device and install a recovery so you can install custom roms? or are you trying to keep your warranty intact ?
I'm also not sure why you can't just do part 3 of the instructions you followed in the original post to put jellybean back on again. ( then again you have edited so many files this might not be advisable.)

Android O unrooted - YouTube app will not update

My phone has YouTube version 12.16.16 installed when the newest version in the Play Store is 12.19.56.
However the YouTube page in the play store does not show an Update button, just an Open button.
I downloaded the latest version APK, but I'm getting an "App not installed" error message while trying to install the APK.
After doing some google searching I reset app preferences, cleared cache of the Play Store and the Play Services apps and restarted the phone. Afterwards I'm still getting an error while installing the APK.
Any advice?

When I disable YouTube it just gets disabled. I do not get asked any questions. I still do not know how to get updates.
Anybody has an advice?
Not any app should be disabled. It's hard to tell as we don't know all modifications you did to your system. It seems to be working for everyone.

You have no idea what I'm talking about obviously
On earlier versions (not sure about on O), when you disable it'll ask you if you want to uninstall updates. You can then re-enable and reinstall the updates.

If you don't want root, flash twrp with fastboot, boot to twrp recovery, mount system, use twrpfilemanager to delete YouTube, use twrp to install stock recovery.img, boot system and install YouTube from playstore.
First you can try to download YouTube.apk from apkmirror.com and try updating manually.
Edit, sry you tried that already.
Good luck, root makes life easier

What I am saying is that no apps should be disabled (not only YouTube) and that finally a factory reset would solve the problem.

Twice you quote my whole post but only answer the part you are interested in.
The suggestion that I gave after yours to re-enable all apps is valid whatever you say and includes your ''two seconds fix''.... I brought this to his attention because he's still asking for help.
So if your fix doesn't work OP can try this and ultimately factory reset.

problem with launcher 3

Sometimes I get the pop up that the launcher3 does not work properly and the terminal asks me if I want to close the launcher, I close and everything works fine again, but the other day it came out and the problem was not corrected. Now it's slow, I've tried to erase the data and the launcher cache but it's going slow, some applications do not even open. How can I have the launcher again as before?

It's not root with android 5.1. Even now seems its saying its not space in internal storage but i think its not true. I cant open play store neither. Maybe easy option is restore factory?
Indeed, this is a simple solution... You can try it... If the internal storage is runing out of space and you have not installed anything, there's a high probability that a trojan is involved.
install the virustotal onlinescanner immediately after the factory reset and have the system partition scanned on which the the lauchner is.
Remember: After a Factory-Reset all data and apps are gone...

Does the apps where only recongnized by one scanner (the first), the probability is high that FotaProvider and UpgradeSys are false/positive.
Critical can be the Cache Cleaner Super... Launcher3 was not recognized by any scanner?
If you don't need the CacheCleaner, delete it.. and install the rest of you apps...
Also install kaspersky and run a full scan, it works for 30 Days with all options ...

Only with root you can go further and delete this apps... if these apps are really dangerous and belong to the system, then you have a contaminated rom. In this case, you should consider importing a suitable custom rom and then re-installing the smartphone... Or root the phone, kill the processes (if the apps are already runs) and delete the apps with for example root explorer...

Kaspersky couldnt find nothing. There isnt a way without root to close and restart for a moment launcher3, i think the launcher restarted kinda bad and its just that. When appears the pop up if i want to close or wait its the same, i cant force this message again?
You can dowload an other (free) launcher, put it on the sd card and install it (without having the phone online). You can use a pc to download the nova-launcher (https://nova-launcher.en.uptodown.com/android/download) (english version). Then start the nova launcher and switch to "always use nova launcher"...
And when nova launcher is working i can force restart of launcher3 then?
you can try this but this is not recommend... if the launcher3 is infected with malware, the worst scenario will happen again...

Notifications only coming when opening app!

Hey guys,
I'm on latest MIUI 11.0.8.0 Global Stable, bootloader unlocked, rooted, and with TWRP. I debloated using XiaomiADBFastbootTools, but then went a little overboard and removed all "the crap" using SD Maid Pro's App Control. I made sure I searched on google before removing anything. I've even removed the Battery Saver app.
But now after doing this, the problem is my notifications are not coming. It's as if the phone kills all apps in the background. Like I'll open WhatsApp and all the messages will load at once. Same with Hangouts, Gmail, etc.
I downloaded the current rom again by going into Settings > About Phone > System Update > Download latest package. It downloaded the 2gb rom and booted into TWRP and flashed. I again rooted, installed Magisk, etc, but this is not fixing it.
What should I do? I even cleared Cache/Dalvik Cache and that didn't fix it.
Please help
Change battery optimization settings
Hello,
Open your app settings and set battery restrictions settings to no restrictions.
For example, you wanna do it with whatsapp:
1. Tap and hold whatsapp icon.
2. Select app info.
3. Select battery optimization/restrictions.
4. Change to No restrictions from MIUI battery saver.
5. Move one step back again and turn on Auto start option.
I hope this will solve your issue.
this happens when I restore with migrate, it is something related to interaction between apps and google play services as i recall.
for the apps like WhatsApp, gmail.... and g pl services, try to clear storage of the apps then sign in again, then go to twrp and clear caches, hope these steps solve your problem
I tried all of the above, and I'm still facing issues. Something interesting happened. I have the Outlook app installed, and there is an option of "Test push notifications" in Troubleshooting. I tried it and it gave me the message "Timed out waiting for a notification. Make sure you have enabled notifications for Outlook in the Android settings."
Another issue happened with the Warframe Android app, where it was not able to enable push notifications.
Now I am 100% certain I have removed/deleted an essential process using the SD Maid Appcontrol (mentioned above).
How do I reinstall the complete ROM and reset all the settings without losing data?

I don't remember what processes I deleted. They all seemed "crap".
Is there any way I can reinstall the entire ROM, reset all the inner settings, but still keep data?
If not, I guess I'll start taking backup coz I just lost a job because I didn't read the email on time -_-

Thanx. Installing Migrate.
BTW, another weird thing. I don't get notifications that there are updates available for my apps in play store. I manually opened my Play Store, clicked My Apps, and it showed 15 of my apps had updates available. I'm really getting pissed off now -_-
I fixed it I took backup of the important apps with Migrate and then wiped everything, even the internal, and then using TWRP, I installed the latest Global Stable (V11.0.9.0.QEJMIXM) recovery rom and then rooted and installed Magisk and restored the backup with Migrate. I even debloated again but this time using XiaomiADBFastbootTools 7.0.
This fixed all the problems I was facing, and everything is working perfectly fine.
Thank you so much guys, for all the help. Really appreciate it
