Broken SGP321 Replace with SGP351 ok? - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the tilte says I have a broken Sony Xperia Tablet Z SGP321. It freezes constantly and artifacts etc and everything keeps force closing and the device just hard reboots. It's a hardware problem. The closest board replacement I can see is a USA SGP351 and I live in Ireland. Should this just work ok and all that should be different are the LTE bands? My network Meteor uses 800mhz and 1800mhz and I heard USA uses 1700-2000mhz meaning it will probably still work in some areas. I'm not too fussed if it doesn't, but should everything else function correctly if I buy the replacement board Wi-Fi etc?
Thanks in advance.

Also, SGP351 uses slightly different firmware, than SGP321.

Alright thanks so the main difference is that I wouldn't be able to use lte. As long as the tablet still works and uses Wi-Fi it's ok. That's the closest motherboard variant I could find on eBay with the only others being the Wi-Fi only. Since mine has the aim slot I was thinking what if the hardware doesn't work properly with a Wi-Fi only board because it's different.
EDIT: The motherboard in it either has failing RAM, EMMC or the GPU is failing. Everything just force closes and it keeps lagging then restarting. It's a bonus to even get the option to have 3G just once it works on Wi-Fi. I took a gamble and bought it faulty for €80 but it looks like the LCD itself is worth that much so it's definitely woth repairing at €85 for that motherboard. I know the Wi-Fi only version uses a different kernel and firmware though the boards look alike apart from the SIM slot and mobile radio antenna etc. but I didn't wanna risk buying a Wi-Fi only oard for this tablet in case something doesn't work properly over it.
Everything else seems fine the speakers, cameras and battery etc.

R800x GSM Enabled Development?

Haven't posted here in awhile but I've been watching the HP Touchpad forums lately. Anyhow
I managed to get one of the AT&T Developer Xperia Play R800a units awhile back and posted pictures etc. Lately I've been borrowing a r800x model from a friend and he's borrowing my R800a to use in the Philippines. I was curious and pulled off the battery cover and saw the nice plastic SIM cover..
I just bought a water damaged r800x (took a risk on e-bay should be here soon). Hopefully the board is still salvageable... the seller just mentioned the screen was shot.....
I've noticed the bootloader has been cracked for the r800x models and was wondering if anyone ever tried flashing a GSM generic firmware to a R800x?
I imagine it would brick the device if all else..but was curious.
From what i've been reading on various sources is that the R800x has both the CDMA/GSM Radios however the GSM Side is more likely disabled in the firmware. I know it probably takes more than just flashing a GSM variants firmware to enable GSM use but was wondering if anyone was attacking or attempting on a solution to enable GSM.
In the Verizon forums, verizon workers are claiming the phone does not have a sim slot but a member basically shut them up by pulling the glued tab however there was no other posts. Seems like a pretty useless phone if you are traveling abroad... there has to be a way to enable this!
I own a Verizon Blackberry Storm 1 and it has a simcard slot that works when it's unlocked. I also got it flashed for Metro PCS and it was funny using a ESN off a old Motorola Razor and paying a dumb phone monthly price.
Thoughts suggestions? When I get the water damaged phone in the mail, i'll be happy to donate for DEV use. I repair cell phones and will have the phone in a workable state if the water damage is not beyond repair.

Thanks for posting! When you say not connected... do you mean hardware wise? I have yet to see the inside of the phone other than FCC pictures and don't want to tear open my friends R800x. Now you got me scared like it's missing something hardware wise internally
I was the one that took the brick...
The thought is that it's firmware locked, although it could just very well be unsoldered just the same.
And for the record, the generic firmware will work just fine on the phone. There is just intermittent data and calling issues since all the CDMA stuff has been removed.
The brick occurred when the TA partition in the nand memory was flashed with a gsm build. That's a lot deeper than replacing just the /system files like the generic build does.

Good info. Hmm...well that sucks! Now I really can't wait till I get the phone to tear it apart. Unsoldered? Hmm yeah that could be a possibility as well since i hear people sticking SIMS into the phone but it won't detect it. If I remember correctly I think my Verizon Blackberry would still detect a SIM inserted even when it wasn't unlocked. It just wouldn't logon to a GSM network.
I'll check to see how the R800a and R800x boards differ with their sim slots. If it's indeed unsoldered it will be obvious by looking.
Does anyone know if there is a hidden system menu on the Xperia Play like how some Galaxy Devices have to enable different radio frequencies, gsm/cdma etc? My thinking..if there is such a menu Verizon and Sony won't say anything about it.

There is no support in the kernel and I doubt even in the hardware. IF (and this is the best case) the baseband supports GSM, it is disabled via firmware (not the kernel driver, but the hardware firmware). A good way to test if the SIM card is hooked up is to use a multimeter and measure the voltage through the pins in the sim slot. This of course required opening up the phone partially.

The only two hidden systems menus i've found are as follows:
Open your dialer, enter:
*#*#4636#*#*
This one has Phone info, Battery info, Usage States and Wifi info.
*#*#7378423#*#*
Has Service Info, Service settings (empty on my phone), and Service Tests.
Is this what you were looking for?
AFAIK, R800x has CDMA radio so GSM can't be enabled.
multimeter
nothing yet?
will it really be possible?
http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/02/cdma-xperia-play-visits-fcc-promptly-gets-dissected/
I think using a multimeter in the sim slot would be the best way to answer it!
Could anyone try it?
I thought the CPU in the R800x could only do CDMA so GSM is impossible

ST17a, even though it is not sure if it will completely work.
2011 Xperia phones are mainly for Europe and Asian market.
was there any resolve on this, I am thinking about buying an active as well, and would like to use 3g on t-mobile.
any help is appreciated, thanks!

unfortunately, the st17a will not recieve T-Mobile
3g. at least, that's what i'm experiencing thus far.
which is kinda disappointing. all things considered, i
think the xperia active is a great phone. it's durable,
compact and very water resistant. i like that i can leave
it in my back pocket and go about my day. not something
i could get away with when i had my garminfone.
it could use more horsepower all around though. i hope it
did well enough in the market to warrant an upgraded
successor. i'd like to see it come back with a faster cpu,
more ram, definitely a better camera(8 megapixels or
more, though 5 isn't bad), diver-grade water resistance
and of course, support for 4g speeds accross all major us
carriers.
i'm a little puzzled as to why it was stifled in the first place.
but after witnessing what happend to the galaxy s3 when
it hit t-mobile, i'm not so surprised.
here's what's funny to me though: in my frustrations i found
a taredown of the xperia mini pro on ifixit.com. scroll down a bit
to where it shows an exposed shot of the x10's chipset and it lists
the qualcomm rtr6285, which i think is basically the phone's radio
transciever. now the 'mainboard' of my T-Mobile garminfone also
contains the qualcomm rtr6285. well, since the xperia active is
supposedly an ip-67 certified version of the xperia mini pro, then
it must also contain a similar chipset. at least in my mind, it should
be rockin' the same radio chip. this is my first post, so i can't include
external links. just google: "sony ericsson xperia x10 mini pro e10i
taredown" and the link should be one of the first results.
the garminfone works just fine on t-mobile's 3g network.
therefore, the xperia active should also function since it
theoretically uses the same radio. i could be wrong, since
i've yet to open my st17a and verify that it does contain
the same qualcomm radio chip... i emailed sony about
this and they basically told me that they won't help.
so, here i am holding out for the next gen xperia active...
there really should be more options for this type of smartphone.
however powerful and impressive alot of the newer devices are,
they're still not rugged enough to resist water or an eight foot
drop to the ground.
yep it does not work
Bought the phone about a month ago, I'm very satisfied with it. Only drawback is that it doesn't work with T-Mobile's 3G network in the United States, but it connects to 2G/Edge just fine. I like the small size, so many smartphones are big and take up a lot of pocket space, this one fits easily into my pocket and doesn't get in the way at all.

[Q] LTE not working on Z2?

So around 3 weeks ago I got a brand new unlocked Z2 D6503. As it says, it supports LTE and the bands it support are available and broadcasted here in KSA.
I'm on the operator Zain KSA and when I manually search for mobile networks, I do see the LTE network by the operator but whenever I select it, it doesn't register on it.
I've tried everything from calling/visiting the network operator from changing the SIM and getting a new one.
The FW I have is .314
Anyone has any experience or any idea? Do I need to reflash the FW?
May be enter the correct APN settings for your carrier?
Sent from my One using Tapatalk
Firstly, are you on an LTE plan? For Singapore, we need to sign up to an LTE plan and the operator has to do the necessary activation, before we can register on the LTE network.

That's the thing, I already had 4G activated, and I specially got it deactivated and activated again on this handset. 4G coverage is in my area, each and everything is in optimal condition. The network operator says everything is also fine at their end...

Yup everything is configured correctly
I can confirm that it is the handset that is not registering LTE.
I just popped in a working LTE SIM which has full coverage in my area and Z2 fails to register it...
Well I can't say much about LTE since I am on 3G data plan so can't use it. But the funny thing happened that I was on Edge connection, even tho I was in city centre and I could use 3G, it was full. So went into phone options and changed into 3G only and then Z2 has magically seen the better connection. Try to do that for LTE, maybe it will work. Otherwise I would flash other firmware or repair with PCC.

Okay so actually solved the issue.
I reinstalled/repaired the FW using Sony PC Companion and now LTE works perfectly. But the side effect? I heard that 4.4.2 causes many bugs and seems like I just got the phone sluggish one.
Phone feels sluggish in different parts as well as when I tap the recent icons button. Also the animation for WiFi turning on and off is not there anymore...
I don't know what's happening anymore....:/
I too have a bit of a lag when I hit recents menu button. I guess it's just the way Z2 is now and we have to wait for new firmwares, hopefully with less bugs, to come.
Happy for you that you fixed the problem with LTE

Yeah, seems like we'll just have to wait for 4.4.4 to hit...
Sad how the animations worked and there was no lag but sadly no LTE functionality. Such bad FW release.
And yeah atleast I fixed the LTE issue as I really can't stand slow internet and H+ seems pretty slow to me.
Same problem...install the new software through PC companion still the problem

NFC does not work

I bought xperia z5 compact from ebay. I am in Egypt it has lollipop and does not give me update notification. In addition, nfc does not work. When I turn it on it returns off by itself. Please help.
If you are using Windows, download and install the FlashTool (klick) and after that klick on the XPeriFirm (XP) button. There you select your device, country, provider etc. and download the latest firmware. After that you can install it directly.

I downloaded and installed it but when I launch the application and connect the phone to the computer it does not give me any information. So, what is wrong?only written connect a phone or an accessory and on the left inactive words(in grey ) like connected item:, soft ware: and so om.
It's not that easy!
Install FlashTool.
You have to set your windows computer to a mode where it does accept unsigned drivers. Please search the internet how to do that.
You have to install the drivers that are residing in a subdirectory named "drivers" of the FlashTool directory.
You need fastboot, the next one (name forgotten) and sony z5 compact drivers (I hope, I remember the names correctly)
Start FlashTool.
Click on the XP button.
Now XPeriFirm should start. If not, there is no way to get the firmware this way.
Maybe you can download XPeriFirm manually, but that hasn't worked here.
If you do not know what you are doing, you should consult the internet for further answers.
I haven't used FlashTool since a very long time.
So I can't say if it is still working as expected.
Edit:
You have to download XPeriFirm from here.
Expand the zip file and copy the file "XperiFirm-x64.exe" (or "XperiFirm-x86.exe", if you are working in a 32 bit environment) as "XperiFirm.exe" to the folder <users>/<your_user_name>/.flashTool
Then the XF button in FlashTool is working (see attached pictures)

LTE will work.... but not 800MHz LTE Band 20. Instead, there is LTE Band 19, which is used only in Japan. LTE 1800MHz band 3 , 2100MHz Band 1 or 2600MHz Band 7 will work. Problem is signal outer the Cities.... in the Villages, operators use only 800MHz LTE there.... better area 4 signal distribution than 1800 and 2100MHz.
So you will have signal in the city.... but maybe nothing at a cottage... or you will loose signal on the road.
you can check this Czech program, at googleplay, yes it´s Czech made free and perfect- no ads, and you see in the log or real-time where are you are or have been connected.... frequencies and lots of datas.... i love this programme. I am not sure if it woks abroad.... but it should.... or try some simmilar program.

NFCs antennas are not included, in japanese models, they were not-available, and I think in some pieces they are added....but they still will not work, because some restriction still is there in Cracked-rooted Firmware E5823 something japanese is still there So no if you want NFC, LTE 800.... buy used Z5 compact from original distribution. I have 3 new pieces now like a new, I have refubrished them by myself.... Like a new Original Sony LCDs original sony batteries, original IMEI motherboards, original sony case interior. Just perfect. I would like to use NFC for opening doors in the garage instead of chip on the keys.... it should work, but don´t know "how to."... maybe it is possible If i want to take money from ATM, there is NFC lock on doors, if i acivate NFC, it opens the doors it is good But how to open doors with NFC in da house....
I must ask somebody if it is possible.... I like openning the doors with NFC I dont use it for payment, but for opening the doors
I have lost the keys one day in a car, and doors locked.... 2:00 AM WTF! I had to get out of the garrage and knocked on someones window 2:00 AM freezing..... please help me This NFC unlocking should be very very good in this situation. I had to little crash the doors to get to the garrage and mine keys
I dont know if NFC or some programme can copy datas from key chip..... maybe YES?
It would be great.....NFC chip clone.... hmmmmm

But as I understand, this is not Japanese version , i.e this is not SO-02H, but it is E5823 as you know. In the japanese version SO-02H, there is no NFC as indicated in the specs. Mine has NFC, I doenloaded app to check and it said yes support NFC. I have NFC icon but does not turn on. When I turn it on , it gets gry and then returns off. So, still do not understand why NFC does not work? And is there a solution for this problem?

So, can I use NFC while it is turnning off?. As it is exist and the antenna exists. and if I understands well from your reply, it is a software issues in the japanese fixed program. If yes how can I fix this? Can I use the NFC while it is off? and in what applications? I want to aslo ask if the one I have is not original?. My imei is :354187076594552. Thank you for your kind help.
A weird thing is when I enter to Google the IMEI to check it will say z5 not Z5 compact. So, I am very confused, I bought it new from ebay.

Is the fingerprint working in the models you have? As it was stated that the fingerprint is not available in the US market. If they are like new exactly and have all the features work, I want to buy a black colored one so what is the price?

Hello, fingerprint we have from the beginning since 2015 in EU I don´t understand why in US it was not available.... My brain doesnot takes it maybe mafia cutting fingers in US italian style... but models sold in Italy are with finger print sensor I am sure... Maybe some one from Sony in Japan knows, why US don´t have fingerprint sensors activated... or why they are deactivated
I have 3 white like a new, now i want to rebuild 4.th piece.... No black. Only Whites, because black doesnot matter only white are perfect.... Im joking....but yes only white packs are original SONY. Blacks are copies.
frames complete with lcd and glass by SONY, so i dont need to be ****ed with glue problem. There are only white megapacks available in EU- frame+ lcd + screen glued from Sony. And sorry it is not possible to send it to USA,
duties and taxes are BIG comedy in EU....

Open back doors.... easily... watch back side..... both hands ready and right hand push front frame, left hand push backwards..frame.. push... and use nail or something... when you see space, i start near camera---- guitar pick and open the phone from back.... glue will work after... no problem.... if you make it clever.... pop it up... and there must be NFC antenna on batery.... sticked.... if not, you dont have NFC
toothpick also works fine when you want to enter Z5c from behind bambooo quality toothpick-not copies easy rotate... with toothpick down .... and it will open if there is not NFC antenna, you can be sure, you are not first who opened this phone A: it is SO-02H cracked to E5823 so without NFC, or B: someone stole it whed changed batery.... and destroyed it
I know it is difficult to remove NFC antenna for the first time. when you want get to the motherboard and everything...... you will destroy it.... I know... it si not easy for first time to pop it off.... I have destroyed one- .... but I know.... Now i Know....needle you need to take NFC off the batery, but you must be very very carefull
If you disassamble NFC.... okey you can reassamble Z5 compact complete... disassamble NFC is first difficult step, and not easy.
I am sure, you don´t have NFC upon batery.... it is missing.... so that´s what I think.... software says you have, real hardware check says no you dont have NFC man

Question Sony Xperia 1 iii xq-bc62 5G not working. Flash xq-bc52?

Hi, i bought a unlocked xq-bc62 in US. I travel a lot and discovered 5G won't work in several carriers networks, no matter what I do in the phone ( I spend more time outside US). I called the carriers support and they confirmed their network doesn't have any lock preventing the use of overseas 5G bought phones. So far, I tried to use it in Portugal, UK, Ireland and Brazil but 5G is not recognized by the phone. I changed the sim for a 5G local one, changed ASN, manually chose network (5G ones are not displayed) and no success. I even tried to pray, but again, no success. I contacted Sony Support and they said phone will only work in 5G in 2 of the 3 main carriers in US and not outside US, despite the phone tech specs says it will work in all the frequencys used by above carriers. There are some threads here that confirm xq-bc62 Is not a full 5g phone. All said and done, my Question: is it possible to flash another region Image like xq-bc52 or xq-bc72 in this hardware? Will it work fine and, mainly, will 5G networks be accessible outside US? Tks
Some times its hardware but you can try mtk engineer mode settings there may be something of use there
If you can get the original vendor file usually have (user low ship...) its usually international
Unless the phone is using 4.5G and not real 5G

Yep, the US models have numerous disabled features and run late on updates. I've also noticed it's crippled or disabled while roaming. I'm not sure if it's directly from disabled features or it it has been blocked by telcos because it malfunctions. (It gets kicked off cell towers in the US)
The US model has slightly different radio hardware so I would expect problems flashing the OS from another region. There are some tricks for changing the feature lists that might be a safer bet.

How would one check what is and isn't turned on network wise??
I was able to flash the XQ-BC52 ROM in my XQ-BC62 hardware. So far, working fine in 4G+, but I´m in area with no 5G coverage. Tomorrow I will go to an 5G area and check f it worked. If not, I will try the XQ-BC72. I will keep you posted.

Maybe something along the lines of Getting VoLTE and VoWiFi on unlisted carriers by flashing mbn file or 5II/1&5III VoLTE patch. [Guide to release the root] or https://band.radio/
I haven't rooted yet so I haven't tried them. I bring a T-Mobile LG Velvet 5G with me when I travel. It's a little slower but doesn't have all the telco problems.
Test done, xqbc-52 doesn't see 5G network as well. XQ-BC72 SEA is a no go, don't even recognize the SIM card in the phone.
Will try another firmwares and the tweaks kevinmcmurtrie mentioned above, but my feeling is: I paid the 5G price for the Phone and actually got a a 4G Phone. Very frustrated with Sony. Thinking seriously about going back to Samsung.

But hey here's the pros, best physical camera sensors, Micro SD card Slot and headphone jack...
UPDATE!!! 5G is working!!!!! After Several Attempts, I finally got 5G. What worked for me, in Claro BR Network, was flash a Hybrid ROM. I Flashed A XQ-BC52 ROM with Modem files from XQ-BC72. So far everything working as it should. My only concern, next month I will be in Germany, may I have trouble in LTE over there with XQ-BC72 modems?

Tks for the spirits up Ainz_Ooal_Gown. The main reason I Bougth Sony 1 iii is the 3,5 mm jack. I hate USB adapters......
Ok, major setback. it worked for 3 hours and when I turned on my second Sim card the phone 5G was gone. Turned it off, reset radio configs, but no success. Apparently turning the second sim on override the BC72 configs. Time to get serious now and root the phone, what I'm very reluctant to do.

How did you manage to do that? Could you please explain the process?
Settings, Network & internet, Smart connectivity and turn off. On by default. See if it works. I found where I am at it tends to look for wifi over 5G.
