Hi,
I have a Three questions:
Firstly, I have successfully rooted my xperia xa ultra F3213 using rrvuhpg rooting guide.Unlocking bootloader has degraded the performance of Camera which everyone is aware However I found a strange thing in the Front camera. It is showing resolution up to 21MP which is a surprise though there is no improvement in camera clarity due to loss of DRM keys.
Secondly,I'm unable to tweak the CPU and Governor using Trickster Mod or any other Apps While I'm trying to set MIn and Max frequency and Governor they aren't locking once I close and open app the settings are getting restored they aren't getting locked
Lastly I just wanna know is there any way to add mediprofile.xml to increase video bit rate.
I wanna know where can i get MTK engineer mode app as the feature isn't build in xperia xa ultra and I'm unable to install it manually even I'm getting error stating that device is not a Mediatek if I install any mtk engineer mode app
I wanna know how to swap SD card as internal storage.
I hope someone helps in solving these problems.

Hi, I will answer you
For the bad picture quality look at the begin of the root guide, I explain that's possible to flash a DRM fix with twrp. Follow the link to the official thread and download the zip for Z3+ devices.
If you backed up your TA partition I know that there is a possibility to mount it during boot but I can't make a guide because I don't have backed up my keys.
You can change CPU and governor with Kernel Adiutor app but is a little buggy on our devices, I recommend to use Kernel Toolkit app.
For mediaprofile.xml I don't know (never tried).
If you search on XA forum you will find a thread about Engineer Mode, I successfully added the menu but changes in it are not applied and I never worked more on it.
For Adoptable Storage look on the XA forum you will find a guide or use Root Essentials app.
Thanks for your reply between I still have few issues
Firstly with locking CPU frequencies as you said I have tried kernel toolkit app however the frequency which I set for min and max aren't locking.Once I close and open app they are restoring back changes this was the main issue to me while using apps like trickster mod, kernel auditor,ex kernel manager set CPU and now the app which you said none of them are working they are not locking frequency.
Secondly with adoptable storage I'm from USA and I purchased Xperia when there was an offer which everyone is aware Sony sold device with free 64GB memory card so I have memory card of Sony which they gave and it's not fast the apps take too long to open and few times due to heavy apps in memory card the card gets corrupted.I install lot of apps and heavy games but however due to lack of internal storage and slow memory card I can't install too many apps
The main reason to root this device is to set CPU frequency according to my usage for saving battery and swap internal to external memory which both aren't working in this device
As far as DRM,I have backup of my Xperia xa ultra TA partition(DRM) but don't know how to restore it
I request you to help me

Kernel Adiutor worked for me on my XA and older firmwares (now I have a Oneplus3 for daily). To save battery you can disable Stamina and enable Doze Mode with ForceDoze app. If you have enough skill you can build a modified kernel with custom frequency and governors.
Switching memory is near the same as Adoptable Storage, to have good results use a class 10 SD card. You can search for benchmarks on the web before buying a good one.
For now I can't explain and make modified boot to mount your TA backup ( I don't have backup). As said before use the DRM fix to restore all features like on locked bootloader.
Thanks

Best advice if you want good battery life, install greenify and enable the aggressive doze and doze on the go via adb feature been using it on my xa F3111 it makes doze work more like old stamina mode and works on stock unrooted device's. I'm getting a full day of use and 3.5-5hrs screen time from the 2300mah battery without using stamina mode once.
Sent from my Xperia XA using XDA Labs
I'm already using greenify app with aggressive doze enabled anyway thanks for your help

Please read the official thread of the DRM fix. Yes it will restore original camera performance, bravia engine and updates for Sony apps but it will not restore OTA updates or your real DRM keys.
You have helped me a lot in answering my questions I thank you from bottom of my heart.
I have a last question regarding flashtool. There is a flashtool by androxyde and Sony own EMMA flashtool what is the difference between both of them
Why don't anyone in the xperia forum recommend using Sony EMMA flashtool for flashing stock ROM.Because few of the memebers these days are facing errors of FSC scripts while flashing in such a case why don't they recommend using SONY EMMA flashtool.
This is the main question which arises all time to me if any user in forum posts about device brick.

It's simple, EMMA is not compatible with our devices
Thanks for your reply I have installed the Z3+ DRM fix however I couldn't notice any improvement in camera the results are same. Bravia engine working though.

O.K.. I finally made the upgrade from my old E10i (Mini) to a Neo..
I've been comparing phones for months now and chose the Neo for its Superior Camera, forward facing camera for skype calls, Dedicated HDMI port and the recent news of the Live dock which will enable USB Hosting.. (It was a bit of a toss up between the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Neo.. the price of the Neo won out in the end)
I will get the Neo in a couple of days (its been ordered and payed for)
Now.. I have screwed with my mini so much (it had features missing that I really needed... Dual touch, Flash Video, Apps to SD, Froyo then Gingerbread, Clockwork recovery, Wifi tethering etc) so it needed to be rooted and hacked.. but what features are really missing off the neo? (its already running gingerbread)
Do I need to modify it? or is it actually quite good out of the box?
Does rooting, unlocking the bootloader and loading custom Kernel give me any real benefits (apart from CPU overclocking?)
(as a new member of the Neo Forum.. moving over from the mini I'm asking for your advice)
Any thoughts??
Cheers
Kiwi
Till now I didn't see the reason for unlocking the boot loader. Just rooted the phone to get the clock sync to work. Without rooting, clock setting can be down to minute only - OS bypass any time difference less than 30s. Rooted OS permits to set the clock correct.
That's the only real reason for me to root the phone. Other than that were just for fun.
Out of the box it is quite good, except for the bloatware and useless shortcuts in the app drawer. Get your phone rooted and delete the bloatware (it has 2 app screens of 16 apps full of bloatware). Also move some apps to the system app partition, because the app memory is not so big (a lot bigger than the E10's, but still too small).
Unlocking the bootloader can be useful, but it's not necessary for most mods. Fact is that we can relock the bootloader easily. The only disadvantage from unlocking the bootloader is that DRM won't work after unlocking, so the music like button in the stock music player (which I never use) and TrackID won't work, even after relocking. Still, you can use Shazam instead of TrackID.
I wasn't able to root my Neo for 2 months, but it wasn't that bad. Especially after the latest update, you don't need root because screenshot making is native. I only experienced that I filled the app memory very fast.

If you install some apps, they install that location data/app. This partitions size is not the biggestone. If you have root you can easly remove bloatware and move the most needed apps to system/app partitions. Beacause system/app partitions have about 150+ Mb free space after you delete bloatware. Use search and you find in arc forum a thread wher is complete list app what you can delete and remove

Holy Crap!! I forgot all about the bloatware!! Its been so long since I actually used a Stock setup on my mini I forgot about the bloatware component!! eeeek! well, that's probably the biggest plus for rooting! (that and moving some apps to System, eg.. root explorer etc..)
Thanks guys! will be rooting as soon as she gets out of the box!

With doomlord kernel is overcloking "insane"
Stock 1Ghz
Doomlord kernel 1,9Ghz
I use 1,4Ghz smartassV2 and its da bestone. I even downgrade my 2.3.4 back to 2.3.3 because new kernel relase is "nobody know"
And battery....da best
And YES rooting is strongly RECOMENDED but ALWAYS your desicion
Regards!
Taavi
I would recommend rooting your neo for the following reasons.
a) removing bloatware
b) overclocking (however in 2.3.4 this is not possible until doomkernel is updated, but still.)
c) you can do quite a few mods that require root that are pretty cool with the phone.
enjoy using your neo
my GDX v17 stucked many times after i installed too many applications...but there was 100 MB free of internal memory...also i want to move all my data to external with some utlity which can move and prepare any kind of data only in SD card...such system data dalvik and everything should be on SD cArd....i think developers should look into this....we have enough roms...please start working on making ROMS more powerful & faster, a rom which can repair itself during crashes and while it gets rebooted....flashing everytime is not good for our mobiles....i respect all developers and thanks for looking into this....
unlocking bootloader is actually advantageous.
PLUS the latest flashtool version have an option to unlock it for noobs, if you think the process is all mindfuck.
Its a one click method.
I've seen that method with just one button click, but, if you unlock your bootloader, yo lose your warranty right?? Is there any way for locking back??
What happen if I unlock my bootloader, what are those advantage you mean??
I'll keep on minicm7 by paul...!
flashtool
which flashtool version is that....or if there any easy way to unlock and lock bootloader again...please suggest the version and link if possible....
quick action required
does anyone know the not all data is getting transferred to sd card after the installation of applications, RAM gets occupied if ur using 100 of application if all data is moved to sd card, for eg in 8GB card, we can have more memory , please give me link if anyone is working or have something useful on this topic, i will say it again, no disrespect, i also want a perfect ROM, EYAMAalso i would like to know, when can i get super zipper locker for GO launcher, it wont work on x10 mini pro, it only works with HD phones. i really want this with customized wallpaper mode.
Hi guys,
it's been about half a year since i've been on XDA. currently, I'm running cyanogenmod 10-20130315 UNOFFICIAL in combination with the lupus kernel v8 on my Xperia Ray.
My phone is getting slower and slower and crashes a lot. The App store cannot update my apps since the memory is full (even though I have few apps installed and clear the cache on a weekly basis) Also WIFI signal is terrible.
Since I have not been following all the developments, I would like to know which android version (4.1.2, 4.2.2 or 4.3) and corresponding rom delivers the best performance for normal usage. I absolutely do not care about gaming and stuff. I just want to whatsapp, listen to spotify, check the news and take some photos. In addition, I really like the Sony Xperia Z theme and lockscreen to be compatible (or even already implemented) with the rom.
Besides, I would like to know what kernel suits my needs.
Normally, I would do all the research myself but since I'm quite busy with working and studying I am not able to do this so I would really appreciate some help.
Thanks in advance!
Android 4.0.4 should suit your needs ...for WiFi ,you are better off with Official or Stock based ROMs ...If you want Xperia Z theme then Stock Based ROM is better ....
Go for CM 9.1 IMO ...'
Clearing cache wont do anything ....try to check what app is taking memory ...

Thanks for your input! I will first give 4.1.2 a try and then try cm 9.1
Though I got one problem.
I downloaded Racing Bean and the corresponding Fusion kernel.
However, when I want to flash the kernel (with flashtool, fastboot), Flashtool asks me to install the drivers which are in the flashtool/drivers folder. When I try to do this, and select the drivers for the xperia ray, the installation program gives an error (It was not able to install the drivers). When I ignore this and try to flash the boot.img, flashtool says that my device needs to be connected in fastboot mode.
This is quite strange since my ray is connected in fastboot mode. (Turned it off, hold volume up and connect the usb cable--> blue light)
Does anyone know a solution for this? I'm running windows 8 x64

Uninstall drivers completely ...Reinstall drivers ...thats the simplest solution ...Fastboot and flashmode are problematic in 64 bit windows ...
I'm on Optimax 3.1 and CTcaer 2.8 for months. Nothing wrong with it. Still as fast as it was when I installed it.
Things need to taken care of:
Cache, it eat /data partition space, leading to crash, FC, unexpected behavior --> Link2SD to get more /data space, clean up unused app, delete cache of heavy app montly (or when you bored) by sorting them by cache size in Link2SD and use Stock App Manage to free them.
Mem Gapps get heavier day by day, and other app by big corp. too. Especially Google+, so much resource hungry, always stay in memory. But if you left it out, many things will not work. Greenify is what you need, only service, keyboard and whatsapp allowed to run in background all the time --> save so much resource, always have mem when you open another app.
SDmaid and media scanner is something needed to run sometime, I'm not so sure about how it affect the performance, but having more space and less trash, better map of SD card is always good.
And last thing is, don't saving too much battery, keep min freq. at 245Mhz, max freq. at 1.2Ghz with smartassV2 and sio. Min freq. lower than 200Mhz screw up the phone the moment you press the power button to wake it up when it in the middle of running something in wakelock, like syncing or cron jobs. Simply not enough processing power.
I fixed the fastboot problem by starting windows in safe mode which does not verify the drivers. This enabled me to install the drivers and run flashtool.
I just installed Racing Bean but it feels even more laggy than my old rom, maybe it needs to settle.
If it won't, I will try Optimax 3.1.
Thanks for your advice!
I am thinking of installing an alternate ROM called Honamify which is based on Android 4.4 CyanogenMod posted in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602727
The problem is that I am totally confused after reading about the whole process. I need some guidance from experienced users/developers on how to go about this.
Here are some facts :
- The phone is Sony Ericsson Live With Walkman updated to the last official Ice Cream Sandwich build.
- It has been rooted with eRoot toolkit and most of the applications have been linked to a 2nd ext2 partition on SD card. Some applications like Facebook which were system applications have been converted to user applications and also have been linked to SD card using Link2SD. All updates to system applications have been integrated into system storage.
- The phone bootloader is currently locked.
Here are my questions :
1. Is it possible to take a complete backup of the phone in its present state so that if whatever is done later is unsuccessful it can be restored back to the present state?
2. I understand that it is necessary to unlock the bootloader before installing another ROM. But doing so may cause loss of data and DRM and other features according to Sony. And some posts mention taking a backup of TA partition before unlocking. What is that and how to do it?
3. Some tools show that the phone already has some sort of recovery installed but some others say no. Does this phone come with some factory installed recovery? If not how to install one? Clockworkmod?
4. Will it be possible to have a multiboot setup so that I can select whether to boot the stock or custom ROM?
5. Can we live without the Google applications? Or can we selectively install only some of the Google applications?

1 Yeah. If you have enabled cwm recovery option on your phone. You can just take a backup your whole phone(Of Course excluding the memory card) from the backup and restore menu and restore it later.
2 No data will go if unlock properly. Drm might go if you do it the official way. Chill just remove your sd card before unlocking and remember to backup your wahtsapp chats and sms and contacts(use google sync for contacts) You can reinstall everything again.
3 No. You have to install one. Clockworkmod, ie cwm,Once you unlocked your phone you can just flash custom kernels that come with preinstalled recovery menus
4 Its possible. But its not worth doing it on a 2011 device. Trust me . Youll have to do **** with the sd card as the system doesnt have enough space to hold more than one rom plus we dont really have dualboot kernels.
5 Go to google search and type yourzgapps and click the first link. Even 4.4 gapps are there in the download link its just not mentioned in the thread. Theyre very lite only with essential google apps. Its like only a 14mb download. And yeah you cant live without google apps especially the playstore?
Thanks yash.
How to flash a custom kernel? Using Flashtool software on Windows?
Yeah anytime.
Yes use flash tool. Drivers dont work on windows 8.1 but. So it'll be sad if youre on it
Sent from my WT19i using xda app-developers app
No I have Windows XP on the desktop and 7 on laptop. Both have multiple versions of PCLinuxOS. But I suppose Linux usage here would entail command line.
I suppose if I sit down and do it once I would become confident.
wait for next Honamify update
I've setup Honamify v2 on my live with Walkman. It's good, but look like it has some issue with "google play" compatibility check
For example, My phone can easy install Candy Crush Saga with brand Sony ICS Rom or LegacyXperia (the one Honamify base on).
But in Honamify v2, Google Play said my device don't support.
If you fan of Games. Think twice before install. Or you need to know how to edit buid.prop to make your device compatiblity (not easy with newbie like me)
Ok. Google Play compatibility is critical. Good to know beforehand.
What about other basic functions such as Bluetooth, WiFi, camera etc? Do they work well? Battery life?
pros: battery life, smoothness, wifi strength
It has better battery life then ICS base
Much smoothness then ICS other base Honamify ROM
The corlor in launcher is not real and beautiful like the sony ICS base.
WIFI is stronger with more access point discover in range.
Camera is OK but not much better than cybershot
Look like author has some fix, since link to part 1 has been remove.
Let's wait
for game that not pass compatibility device checking of Google play. I google apk file to download and install. It work. A bit compilicated and hard to update. But at least it ok to play.
Worth for the smooth and GUI of thís ROM.
or you can try to install my newly release rom.. as for the moments it's for LWW only but will support other mdpi's soon..just click my signature

Kingroot, towelroot?
Xperia Z root (kinguser) app dont work?
Post z telefonu
Neither Towelroot or Kingroot work. Kingo have suggested their app *may* work, but I'm not sure how secure that app is, so haven't tried it. I badly need to root this phone, so I can partition the sd card and use Links2SD. As it stands, I have about 600mb of my "8gb" free, after installing a few apps. I'd like to zap most of the Google apps, and some of the other preinstalled software. Without root, this phone is next to useless if you want to install many, or large, apps.
Im waiting for a root method that works too.
Anyone knows something? :good:

I think unlocking bootloader just allows custom roms to be installed, was a question I asked coz I'm a bit new to this I'm also waiting for root method,
yeah :highfive: and I also think that when you unlock bootloader on your device, it needs to be rooted first
correct me if Im wrong :good:
but hopefully, there will be good news about rooting this coming few days :silly:
From what I've been told and if I'm understanding it right unlocking bootloader and rooting are completely separate, so you should be able achieve either without the need for the other, I'm not sure if this would apply to all device brands but from what I've read seems to be the trend on sony devices, assuming I've interpreted it correctly
so much for that mate all we want now is to have a proper root access for the xperia m4 aqua device
Is anybody working on it at least ?
m4 Aqua - low memory space
This telephone is totally disaster without root access to extend memory with SD card.
I don’t have any recommendation for this telephone for advanced users.
Relax , this phone is available only recently. Allow time for developers to find the solution.
Let me clarify some thing about root and bootloader unlock. Yes we need root to fix the free space problem on the 8GB version using for example links2sd application and memory card. Root can be achieved by two very different ways:
1. By unlocking the bootloader and booting custom kernel with disabled security or recovery which allow supersu to be installed and root achieved. I expect soon m4 aqua to be added to the list of devices which support bootloader unlock (i wrote to sony developers and they told me so) which will allow us to proceed this way. One important consideration here - some phones bought from certain carriers are locked and do not allow bootloader unlock at all. This can be checked by dialing *#*#7378423#*#* - service menu will appear. Go to service info->configuration and check the rooting status. If it says bootloader unlock allowed: yes you are lucky. If it says no you will not be able to unlock the bootloader at all.
2. Using security vulnerability in the current sony firmware allowing installation of supersu enabling root. Up to date no such vulnerability is found. If and when such will be found we can only guess.
About the storage problem - we have one more hope and it is android M (not 5.1 but the next one). It will allow sdcard to be formatted special way and directly added to the internal storage. This way if you put 32GB card and use this functionality of android M your internal storage will increase automatically from 8GB to 40GB. I hope that m4 aqua will get android M eventually but this is not likely to happen before november/december or even later.
