I have an X64 laptop running windows 10 and with a dead screen. Figured I re-purpose it for a dedicated Remix PC.
Laptop is connected to an external monitor via 15 pin VGA cable. After installing the latest version of Remix OS (I downloaded it today) and booting into remix from the windows boot screen after restarting all I get is a blank screen and my monitor shuts off (which means its not getting a signal).
How can I force remix to only see my external display and not the laptop display?
Help will be much appreciated.
Bump......
Am I in the wrong place or something? Does Remix have an official forum for things like this? Cause I think this is a strange oversight cause at the very least the OS should identify all connected devices at boot. That other one does.....
another bump.......
ok, if no one can help can someone point me to where or who to ask?
I have mine hooked up to an external monitor and it seems to work just fine. Only thing is you can't have the external monitor on while keeping the laptop screen off.

Today I deleted some programs off my SGS2 that were in the list in the SGS2 General Forum. My phone was able to connect to the PC before that. After I uninstalled the applications on my phone, it no longer tries to talk to my computer. I have reinstalled the drivers, restarted both my computer and phone, and still nothing. I am worried it was something I uninstalled but I doubt it. I was quite careful removing the programs using Titanium Backup and they were completely unrelated in my opinion. I have a feeling it is only coincidental.
Anyhow can you please help me troubleshoot what has happened? Thanks.
Perhaps it wasn't related. I figured out how to do it with USB debugging ticked. I never had to do that before. Originally it would connect automatically with USB debugging unticked. Now it only connects with USB debugging ticked and after I say that it is 'OK' pretty much.
Still, if anyone can shed some light on what I may have uninstalled let me know. Thanks.
may not apply to you since im guessing you tried it both times on the same comp with the same OS. i find that kies hates 64 bit OS. it just wouldn't connect on my desktop running win 7 ultimate 64bit but connects just fine on my laptop running win 7 enterprise 32bit. anyway... i usually have debugging mode on anyway, much easier for me to access the phone and sd card using explorer instead of stupid kies. kies i only use for firmware updates or atleast until i've rooted this thing.
Sorry I should have mentioned that I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Thanks, shabs52. Good to know it could be my OS that is fumbling. I would have to agree as well, Kies stinks. I can't wait until I can get a stock OS without any crapware.
Anyhow it is strange how it worked for awhile and just stopped, but debug mode is better anyway.
Win 7 x64 Kies failed always .
Wiped drive brand new Win 7 x64 install Kies no problems = bad driver install or conflicts on original setup .

I'm having this problem too
Despite my Win7 64bits, Kies always connected automatically, both with SGS2 and my previous SGS. Yesterday my SGS2 started to behave strange: when I plug the USB cable it doesn't recognizes automatically (takes a few seconds), and only starts charging the battery, but the data link is not stablished (Kies won't even recognize there is a device connected). When I remove the USB cable the charging indicator continues to show as if it still was connected (again, for a few seconds). The same with the power cord. Since the symptoms were the same in my notebook (also Win 7 64) I tried it on a Win XP 32 - same thing (different USB cables). This makes me think the problem is with the device itself. Anyone have seen this?
Try deleting the drivers on your pc for samsung usb while the phone is unplugged. Then plug back the phone and windows 7 should automatically search and install the required files...worked for me with w7 64
I already did that, but the problem persists. Today some new symptoms "arrived", which led me to this other thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151863). The phone eventually enters car mode, or beeps and shows the charging indicator (even though it's not plugged). Weird. Will take to service tomorrow.
Im having this same problem with my epic touch. Was just wondering if anyone found a way to fix it.
OK so, I recently decided to use my HTC One M7 as a "Modem" in this case, Tethering thru my Computer to my Main Modem, as my Computer keeps getting "DNS unavailable" stuff. Works great, only problem is that it freezes parts of Windows.
The Windows Task Manager doesn't load and is frozen (Usually doesn't when the CPU is under excessive load), the ENTIRE Control Panel of Windows is unresponsive, anything that has to do with Windows is not working, when it's unplugged they start working again.
Is this a problem with my Phone? or my Computer, It for sure can not be the computer as it works when it's unplugged.
Thanks!

When we will have support of the Remix for those tablets in the title, for most of us there is only black screen after installation !?
On my Encore wt8-32 ive managed to boot it. Problem is it will only consistently book in nomodeset mode which makes gpu slow and a contant blinking cursor on the screen. I have been playing around with grub.cfg trying "xforcevesa" "vga=988" "vga=971" etc... strangely on the odd occassion it booted in properly and was working fine apart from stuck in portrait mode. Frustratingly I would try and reboot with the same settings that worked and other times just get the black screen again, it's like it would just randomly work now and again, anyone know what's going on ?

That's exactly what I mean, only the first time it booted on my encore, after that only black screens. The messing with the grub and partly working means it can be set up correctly, my/our request is JIDE TEAM to make it stable for constant normal booting if it's possible. Or someone with the same hardware that has the knowledge ti give us some help
It runs good on my MicroCenter TW-801 - but I have not been able to get it to work on the internal drive yet only on a external usb sd card.
guys use rmx installer and use the 64bit remix os beta uefi and u will be able to get it working, but no sound, no Bluetooth, no rotation ( in my case with a m80ta I'm locked in portrait mode), no sensors basically, everything else seems to be working fine,sd reader, buttons, gpu seems to be recognized well but with no rotation most apps wont work at all
by the way the led next to my front camera is always turned on while the os is running
Apparently there is a bug in recent kernels that affects Bay Trail devices.
Try to set kernel parameters intel_idle.max_cstate=1 and tsc=reliable at the end of kernel line in grub.cfg.
That did the trick on my Asus Transformer Book T200TA.
I hope that will work for you too!
I got it working when I change resolution in grub file. I made it 800x600 and it starts then and when it starts the with native resolution.
How to get screen rotation ? It's very important for some apps !
I get hard locks at various times. Using a HP Stream 7, it has a 32 bit UEFI with a 64 bit processor. Dumbest thing I've heard of.
Running into a super weird problem. I've gotten the beta working on my Acer c720 Chromebook and Macbook Air (Via USB boot) without any issues, and really enjoying the stability and speed increase. However, when trying to boot into Remix on my main Laptop (Which worked with the Alpha, albeit with resolution issues.) things start fine, boots normally, resolution corrects itself, shows me the desktop and I can move the mouse and acts completely normal for about 15 seconds before giving up and rebooting again and going into a death loop. I've tried this with fresh installs, different sticks and the USB that I've been using on the Chromebook/Mac (Thinking the initial setup was causing a problem possibly.) but with the same effect.
I'm not seeing anyone reporting these sorts of issues (Since my laptop can actually boot and load Remix, just not keep it open) and I was wondering if anyone else was running into this issue or could know of any solutions. Thanks!
On two different Windows 10 computers at home, I've had a bit of struggle trying to access the storage on my Z5C (running Nougat .376 UK firmware). I was trying to copy over some new music to the 200GB Sandisk microSD card, but Windows would continually hang and eventually give up even on just browsing folders. I could unplug the phone and try again but with no success. I popped out the microSD card and put it in an adapter and there wasn't any issue copying files over.
Anyone else ever notice Windows having difficulties accessing files on the phone? For what it's worth, I've almost always done firmware updates via Xperia Companion over USB without any problems, so it seems to be specifically related to file transfer/browsing.

make sure the screen doesn't turn off, enable developer options and check do not turn off display on charge
(i feel like MTP gets capped out at 20MB/s or something....from external SD --> internal bus rate??) for really really big transfers 8GB+, I usually remove my SD and use the SD reader, it should be OK if you have a good USB reader that can read the full speed of your card.
Sounds like a new USB cord is needed.
NeoBeum this is not really required to transfer files
*make sure the screen doesn't turn off, enable developer options and check do not turn off display on charge*
genuine?
try sd insight from play store see if ur sdcard is genuine
To all:
Is there a reason why not allowing the screen to sleep would help with file transfer speed back to a PC?
I've tried a couple different USB cables with similar results.
Card is genuine and as mentioned it transfers at full speed when using a SD card adapter and plugging in directly to the PC.

not really, no (don't really need to enable always on screen), but if some users have problems, i just recommend to do that so they can walk away from the tx, and come back without the screen turning off
the z5c has a tendency to temporarily turn off MTP when the display sleeps, you'll be able to tell, because the files on the PC - will contain 0 data, but still appear in the destination
at the moment i'm looking at MTP Host and the other USB services on the phone to see if it will behave better with battery optimisation disabled
edit: if the phone locks @ sleep, it will disable MTP, I have never successfully transferred while my phone locks itself, smartlock can be another workaround for this, unlock with PC

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a try next time I need to copy files over to the phone (usually new music) and see what happens.
