Scratched camera lens. - Sony Xperia X Questions & Answers

Hello,
im not using my X with any case and recently saw that my back lens is really, reallly scratched. I cant understand why Sony did not use glass to protect it. Any idea how to remove this scratches?

It's not glass? It feels like it.. weird, I thought all of the X series were with glass lens. I have no scrathes nor in the lens nor on the screen (actually in the screen there are 2 super small invisible scratches you can view only with a specific angle under bright sun, other than that, it's like new. Been using a flip case and now ordered screen protectors and a good TPU. You got your lens TERRIBLY f*cked up, how did you manage to do that? and the metal is scratched too, right? I suggest you get a TPU now to prevent more damage. I don't think you can fix it, and I don't recommend the toothpaste DIY "trick" since chances are it won't do anything and paste will get stuck in the gap between the lens. I do suggest you to find lens in ebay and replace them yourself, or if you haven't rooted and still have warranty ask what they can do about it in a local store. Can't be very expensive...

What did you do in the end? I had this phone for little over a week, and the camera is full of scratches.
Did you contact Sony? Did they repaired the phone? Or have you removed the scratched layer with alcohol/toothpaste?
I've owned many, many phones over the years, some with a plastic lens. This is the first time I've seen my camera so scratched.

Just by looking at the pic, I'm pretty sure the protective plastic camera has not been removed yet..

This is old people, and I highly doubt OP will reply. Whoever says their lens are getting scratches either didn't remove the plastic cover or you are doing something VERY wrong. Phones aren't meant to be placed on rocks or something. Other than that, I have not idea how you scratch it and it looks like glass to me. The X series phones after the z5 were all upgraded with glass lens.

There's no protective plastic on my lens, and it scratches with jeans denim, I've tested it. I own phones with actual plastic lenses, and they do not scratched by fabric. My guess is there are some units where the antiglare layer on the camera lens have some kind of defect.
Before the "you're using it wrong" argument: no. My phone is in pristine condition, it does not have any marks of use anywhere but the camera. It was never near any rough surface. My 2.5 years old Moto E2 plastic camera lens is in a much better condition.

Camera lens glass issue

Hey guys, my camera has been taking not so great pics lately, and Iv always suspected it was because of my camera lens glass cover that is on the midplate
the glass itself has some wear on it from light scratches, and it has a group of tiny bubbles on the glass itself (im thinking there is some protective film on the glass on the other side)
anyways , I took off the midplate and took a picture without the glass.
results = my pictures were AMAZING... the clearest, sharpest ever seen on this phone.
how can I make this permanent?... is the glass replaceable? ... can I remove the glass and let it run naked?... is it safe?.. (with a battery cover and silicon case over it)
any suggestions?... thanks guys.
I think the same thing that happened to the glass can happen to the lens.
直接更换玻璃,贴个保护膜!一切ok

Hi,
Do you have the pics to show how you removed the midplate? I am thinking of modding my samsung vibrant to a non-camera one. I know it sounds silly but my workplace doesn't allow camera phones

[Q] Is the rear camera protected by Gorilla Glass?

Hello everyone.
I just got my SGS II today. And this is my first android phone. My previous phone was Nokia N80 (2006) . Wow! I love it!
Back to my question, I've been wondering whether the rear camera (8MP camera) protected by the Gorilla Glass?
Thanks.
ehm i dont think so, im protecting mine with sticky tape
Would have been a good idea. Would have added next to nothing to the cost of the device.

I had an old (unused) screen protector that I cut to size to stick on. I don't have the patience to cut it to the exact so it's a hexagon. Far from ideal, but it'll do..
I'd have loved gorilla glass on the camera lens..

Gorilla doesn't mean unsrcatchable.
The camera is likely to get scratches from dust, sand.
I buy some sticky smiley and stick on the back so that the glass does't meet the surface.
Now, I don't know if they did or didn't. But if they didn't: How stupid.
Particularly the AT&T model don't know about the other ones, but when the AT&T model is resting on it's back, it's got this bump down at the bottom, so that raises the bottom up, and then at the other end guess what the camera is resting on? Yes you guess right, the camera lens cover, directly, not even the slighted bit of raised edging to protect it or anything.
Poor industrial design, that's like freshman type stuff.

Can the camera lens be replaced?

I've noticed that my camera is already a little scratched up and I think a year down the line it may be pretty scratched, can the lens be replaced?
Don't think so. U probably need to replace the whole cam.
Anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to prevent camera lens scratch? I hate having a case on the phone, but if the phone is put on a table the lens is in contact with the surface... would a screen protector work?
I would buy any clear screen protector and make the cutout. It shouldn't mess with the clarity.
I put a clear tape over the camera when its not in use,

I've replaced it before on my HTC HD2. It's not so hard, once the bevel is removed the outer glass falls right out. Got my replacement from Ebay.
Sent from my AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note using the XDA Premium app.
Camera protection is actually one of the main reasons I love the flip cover by Samsung. The replacement back is just a tad thicker than the stock cover around the camera lens and cause it to recess a bit protecting it from surface scratches from just being placed down.

So i replaced my Camera glasses w original LG part & not feeling good with Flare....

Comparing Wide vs Normal camera no the G5.
Should I open up the phone and try to Clean the lense and the inside of the glass with Qtip/alcohol?
That looks a loot like grease on the lens or some other dirt. In the worst case it is the glass. Where did you get the spare part from?
I did not Do it myself, it is from a shop, the person incharge insure the glass is original, and explained there is 3 different kind of product.
1. Plastic
2. Glass
3. Original Glass (with special coating)
so i am not sure if he is trust worthy... but any how.....my next question would be....
I will have to replace the screen myself in a few days as i cracked it. Should i use a q-tip with rubbing alcohol to clean the lens as well as the inside of the glass (of the back cover) ?

If you have the possibility take isopropanol as alcohol tends to leave stripes. If not try your best with alcohol.
And maybe take some cloth for cleaning glasses. if there is a sharp edge you will have lots of fibers hanging there from a q-tip
Afaik we have normal glass on the camera. If it indeed is the coating creating lense flares. You could try putting the glass into a acetone bath as this solves organic structures like plastic or in this case most likely the coating easily.
When you look at jerryrigseverything scratch test I couldn't see a coating he damaged first. Looks like pure glass except for the flash cover
After fixing this phone myself...(replacing the broken screen) I kind of want to sell it.. and get a v20....just because this one is so beat up already (front and back broken before)
You guy think is worth it? to go from (a beat up ) g5 to v20?
is only a 3 months old phone...:crying:

actually I'd wait for a galaxy s8. sell the g5 now so you can get a decent price (before it drops even further) and use an old phone.
But wide angle.... Is the reason i get g5... And v20...

There's also a big price difference. You can get the LG g5 for $300, v20 between $700-800. Don't get me wrong the V20 is a better phone. But look at the specs compared to each other. Not really mouth dropping difference. Does it justifie paying over double the price? No in my opinion.

Camera lens protection - needed or not

Hey, so I got these little camera lens protectors from AliExpress but after a few months they are scratched a lot so I'm thinking about Q for those who are not using these protectors, do you have any scratches over your lens? It is save to using the phone without it?
I had iPhone 6s with sapphire glass so I was never worried about scratches, after like 3 years of using it has no single scratch, but this V30 has just normal lens glass or same Corning gorilla?
*Sorry for my English.

Not neccesary if you use case for the phone itself. Phone with glass back for Qi wireless charging is slippery like wet fish. Case is needed for gripping, protection if dropped.
This also protects rear camera lenses.
I have no scratches on my camera lens, because nothing has ever touched my camera lens.

Yeah I'm using a case, so the camera lenses are not touching a table for example, but I often carry a phone with my keys or coins together, so this bother me, I know, I should use another pocket but with basketbal shorts it's hard to find a spare pocket ?

Ah, see I don't do that. I got so mad at myself on previous phone for accidentally putting phone in same pants pocket as keys/coins. So, I have belt holster for work pants or with shorts really make sure I use pocket that has nothing.
