I just got my SGS II today. And this is my first android phone. My previous phone was Nokia N80 (2006) . Wow! I love it!
Back to my question, I've been wondering whether the rear camera (8MP camera) protected by the Gorilla Glass?

I had an old (unused) screen protector that I cut to size to stick on. I don't have the patience to cut it to the exact so it's a hexagon. Far from ideal, but it'll do..
I'd have loved gorilla glass on the camera lens..

Gorilla doesn't mean unsrcatchable.
The camera is likely to get scratches from dust, sand.
I buy some sticky smiley and stick on the back so that the glass does't meet the surface.
Now, I don't know if they did or didn't. But if they didn't: How stupid.
Particularly the AT&T model don't know about the other ones, but when the AT&T model is resting on it's back, it's got this bump down at the bottom, so that raises the bottom up, and then at the other end guess what the camera is resting on? Yes you guess right, the camera lens cover, directly, not even the slighted bit of raised edging to protect it or anything.
Poor industrial design, that's like freshman type stuff.

Ok, long story short: I am a neat freak!
I have the original screen protector on my phone,
I am using a silicone case that covers everything apart from the screen, the three buttons and the camera lens and flash, of course.
I was wondering, are there any pre-cut film protectors that fit into the lens?
I know that this may compromise the photographs taken with the camera,
but I find myseld worrying that I will get my lens scratched by a key or something, and that would compromise the camera permanently.
So, any suggestions?

I am using the Martin Fields Screen Protector that comes with a lens protector also.

Also, the camera lens it pretty hardy - I was worried about it scratching too, but I've had no issues... Also, a crappy protector on the lens is probably going to take worse pictures than a slightly scratched one...
i always use neoprene pouch for my mobile phones.........they are just great, they are not big so you can put your phone in any pocket, they arent tricky to take your mobile out when you need to answer, and they protect your mobile all the time, so no scratches at all
i change my mobile every year and after a year they look like new...
You have the orginial screen protector, as in the film that is stuck to it when its in the box? You still have that on the phone? Doesnt it have a tab hanging of it so you can pull it off, wouldnt that be getting all tattered by now.
P.S. I would call that a screen protector, the phone doesnt really need protecting while its in the box. Its more for finger prints and stuff.

No, no, I meant I have that factory pre-applied screen protector that is really hard to see (only if you notice the corners under direct light).

my nokia had it like the sonny you showed and still gets dusty. I think they should make the lens of some kind of material that doesnt get dust to stick. I remember the iphone 4 lens were uncovered and never got dusty, might just be the lens material..

dust i can live with, I'll wipe it...scratches I can't!!! i might just buy a generic cheap screen cover and try to cut it out, but it'll be a hard task to do a good job!!! I'm also afraid its going to affect the picture and camera quality with a cover like that on.

Get a case then i suggest. like the trident kraken one, nothing will touch your camera. the cheap screen protector isnt a bad idea either

Ya have a case which is actually raised where the camera is so it helps protect it, but lets say you put it in you pocket with keys (I try to never do that) Now what??? the camera is still out in the open, the backplate doesn't protect it like some other phones...my old nexus ones backplate covered the camera with an extra glass, so if it got scratched you could just replace the backplate...this phone there's nothing to protect it...this is a big deal for me as I am an avid picture taker.
Here's what I do. Buy a roll of high quality 3m clear tape like for packing. Cut out just enough to fit over the camera. And I don't mean a small circle I cut to fit the shape of the silver part. Here's a hint: don't touch the sticky part youre applying with your figertips. Firmly apply and as your doing so try to stretch it a bit. For quick snaps you won't even know its there. Otherwise peel back shoot re apply.
Yeah cheesy but it works great.

sounds like a good idea but what happens when you have to take it off (for some reason) and the glass peice goes with it xD haha. im still with the screen protector even though itd make it less quality. the Kracken case would protect it, its a tank

...a lot sonyericsson phones come with that kind of cover, with LED flash PLUS xenon flash, learn HTC, learn. With such high quality camera's now...I would assume that xenon flash and led flash (for flashlight purposes perhaps or video recording) would be a norm. I would also assume a sliding cover would also be a norm...I mean face it our camera takes better pics than many point and shoot camera's out there, and those aall have lenses that have either covers or retract...If HTC is going to advertise this as their "phone geared toward camera" they should have included such things in my opinion, then again there's alway cost, i would probably end up being around 900 bucks unsubsidized...which if you think about it is good, if you have an amazing point and shoot camera and an amazing phone all in one..

Glass piece ? There's no glass piece on the amaze lens, its just the lens housed in an aluminum cover. And its open .
My tape idea works great, just replace a new piece when its time. Any ways its a cheap pheasable solution

its is a valid idea but I have a feeling the tape will collect dust since it will have sticky borders, and doesn't really prove scratch protection (not that durable).
something like a big generic type of boxwave screen protection would do better i would say since its not as sticky and you can cut many pieces out of it when its time to replace, if you need to replace it at all!!! I'm talking about the screen covers that dont' require water and sopa (not the ones like zagg) but ones that just go on. only concern is how it'll change the picture and video clarity!!! ahhh, i'm takling too much!!
Yeah you do have to be diligent with it, replace a lot , and somthing could poke through and scratch it. But clarity is exactly why I chose tape...now I'm talkin to much...lol

yes lenses get tiny scratches over time, they are just glass. heck even gorilla glass gets scuffed up over time, here's a guy who cracked the lens COVER, but he could fix that by getting a new backplate since its this htc phone HAS a lens cover on the backplate. imagine when people start cracking the actual lens, then the camera becomes completely useless and you'll need to get a new phone

up till now most phones had a glass cover on the backplate, that glass cover would get scratched up like crazy after a year of use, MY N1 had that lens cover on the backplate, I had to order a new backplate after a year so I could shoot clear pictures again...the amaze has no such glass over the actual lens... this can create big problems down the line, since its faily new people have not noticed it yet. worse yet, it can break!!!!

hmmm worth a try, I don't have all this spare money to spend on a bunch of different things though lol.
they have this too, but minimu order is 300 units, its basically the same as as a screen protector, anyone want to go in for 300 units and split it, lol.

I would buy any clear screen protector and make the cutout. It shouldn't mess with the clarity.

I've replaced it before on my HTC HD2. It's not so hard, once the bevel is removed the outer glass falls right out. Got my replacement from Ebay.

Camera protection is actually one of the main reasons I love the flip cover by Samsung. The replacement back is just a tad thicker than the stock cover around the camera lens and cause it to recess a bit protecting it from surface scratches from just being placed down.

I have this phone since 2 weeks and today I realize that I have a tiny scratch long about a nail over in the bottom-right of the screen.
Is that possible? I can feel with my nail that is a scratch, really really thin and with screen on its invisible but under a light it's visible.
I really disappointed because I'm taking care of it like a baby. Gorilla glass 4 isn't so strong at least, and now do I need a screen protector? Really?
Anyone have problem like this?

Hi,
Gorilla Glass 4 does not mean the display can't get any scratches. And yes, if you're unlucky you get a scratch the first day of use. All it needs is a little sand and/or stone in your pocked (just an example) and it can happen. I don't care what the manufacturer of the phone promises or uses as display glass. I have always a good display protection foil or tampered glass on my phones.
Nothing new. I have some micro scratches too. The best thing which you can do is buying a glass protector.

i had exactly the same issues.
at right up corner i get multiple scratch. rest of the phone is ok. i guess GG4 on LGv10 had some issue. what i did was trying to remove coating cover and re-apply a new one called crystalusion. it didnt repair 100% but situation get improved. to remove the Oleophobic coating you need something like car scratch remover.

im not using my X with any case and recently saw that my back lens is really, reallly scratched. I cant understand why Sony did not use glass to protect it. Any idea how to remove this scratches?

It's not glass? It feels like it.. weird, I thought all of the X series were with glass lens. I have no scrathes nor in the lens nor on the screen (actually in the screen there are 2 super small invisible scratches you can view only with a specific angle under bright sun, other than that, it's like new. Been using a flip case and now ordered screen protectors and a good TPU. You got your lens TERRIBLY f*cked up, how did you manage to do that? and the metal is scratched too, right? I suggest you get a TPU now to prevent more damage. I don't think you can fix it, and I don't recommend the toothpaste DIY "trick" since chances are it won't do anything and paste will get stuck in the gap between the lens. I do suggest you to find lens in ebay and replace them yourself, or if you haven't rooted and still have warranty ask what they can do about it in a local store. Can't be very expensive...

Did you contact Sony? Did they repaired the phone? Or have you removed the scratched layer with alcohol/toothpaste?
I've owned many, many phones over the years, some with a plastic lens. This is the first time I've seen my camera so scratched.
Just by looking at the pic, I'm pretty sure the protective plastic camera has not been removed yet..
This is old people, and I highly doubt OP will reply. Whoever says their lens are getting scratches either didn't remove the plastic cover or you are doing something VERY wrong. Phones aren't meant to be placed on rocks or something. Other than that, I have not idea how you scratch it and it looks like glass to me. The X series phones after the z5 were all upgraded with glass lens.

There's no protective plastic on my lens, and it scratches with jeans denim, I've tested it. I own phones with actual plastic lenses, and they do not scratched by fabric. My guess is there are some units where the antiglare layer on the camera lens have some kind of defect.
Before the "you're using it wrong" argument: no. My phone is in pristine condition, it does not have any marks of use anywhere but the camera. It was never near any rough surface. My 2.5 years old Moto E2 plastic camera lens is in a much better condition.

Hi, I just bought original replacement back panel on aliexpress and replaced it - 3min of work. Tryed with toothpaste before but it didnt help at all.
Item is not available anymore but it was from this seller for 9usd and it was real orginal part:

No, u used my gf hair dryer [emoji14]
So far I dont have any scratches on lens for months, so sth was ****ed up with previous back panel.

Very weird stuff going on with this phone, good job on fixing it
