Nope you can't.
Actually, 99% of the xda peepz hates samsung's touchwiz.
But you're about to flash the same? Lol
Flash an AOSP rom, that's the best for business!

Not possible. It requires closed sourced Samsung frameworks and drivers. A search would have told you this.

Okay I'm a noob and I've watched the noob video. I've tried but I just can't seem to find the answers to these questions...
I have a Bell locked SGS2. Do I have to unlock before I do any rooting?
What is the difference between flashing vs installing a custom ROM?
Are Cyanogen and MIUI roms? Are they firmware? What the heck is firmware?
Why does the Canadian guide tell me I have to download a firmware to root?
If I install this firmware (through Odin), then can I flash MIUI?
I thought I would be able to figure this out in afternoon. Guess not.
Thanks. If there's an FAQ for all this stuff that I missed, please direct me to it.
Ugh normally I would tell you to stop expecting things to get spoon fed to you, but I can't bother.
No you do not need to unlock before you root. Unlocking has nothing to do with android or system.
Flashing is the process of installing or copying a new system over to your phone. A custom rom is a rom derived from stock/manufacturer rom but altered. Be it apps removed, new kernel, or the source code was altered.
Cyanogen and MIUI roms are roms derived from google android source code but changed to make the system better. Firmware is software, it is the leader of the hardware, it tells the hardware what to do. In other words, without software, your phone cannot do anything.
Go search up on how to root, I stop spoon feeding you here. Get some independence, 13 yrs old? Great time to start developing independence. 16? Not bad, recommend you start developing now. 18? Woowhee kinda late, better late than never though. 21? Wow...
Go look at the MIUI guide to see how to install.
Google is your best friend. If you can't use it i'm sorry but this technological world is too much for you and I recommend you stick to a dumbphone or iphone.

The IMO better term for the OS running on your phone.

'cause they don't know better.
A root(able) kernel is enough already.
Hi,
I bought a Galaxy S GT-I9000 (Bell Vibrant, I believe) and he has this version of ICS installed on it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649345&page=12
I want to downgrade to Cyanogenmod 7 simply to get a bit more performance out of the phone. But, i'm not sure exactly what I have to do, to accomplish this.
Android Version 4.0.4
Baseband: i9000UGKG3
Kernel 3.0.8-Semaphore_ICS_1.2.2
Build Number GT-i9000 4.0.4 IMM761
Mod Version ICS_F4k_MOD_V4.0.4_r3
Do I have to find and install a new kernel? The one I have says ICS, but i'm not sure if that will work for Gingerbread too or not.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
WEll, to makes things worse, I followed the advice of someone from this forum http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/...n-mod-on-phone-that-is-already-rooted-at-404/ and now my phone is stuck in a boot loop.
Crap, now i'm not sure what to do.
Flash a firmware with 3 files PDA, MODEM and CSC using ODIN. If you don't have a firmware with 3 files, download this http://androidadvices.com/valuepack-update-samsung-galaxy-face-unlock-i9000-xxjvu-236/3/ and then update to a newer firmware like JW4 or JW5.
Ok, just to clarify something before i do this. my galaxy S is the international one, not the T-mobile vibrant, will this guide work fine for mine?
Thanks,

Thanks, I flashed over the all the files and was greated by the default Gingerbread theme. Flashed over to Cyanogenmod from there with no issues.
Thanks again, worked great.
Sorry to hijack a thread, but can this be done on a Moto Droid Razr?
I did the OTA update to ICS, and can't stand it. Want to go back to GB.
Any options? Or is this being worked on?
Thanks in advance.

The Boost Mobile version of the Galaxy s2 has an official update to Android 4.1.2 Jellybean, is it possible to modify the tar file from that update package to be compatible with our AT&T SGH-i777 models?? The upgrade tool can be gotten from Samsung's website and then can be installed on the computer, during the install process it extracts the tar file update along with other needed stuff to install to the phone through Download Mode. I really hope this is possible as I would love to have a close-to-stock version of Android 4.1.2 Jellybean for our device, any help/feedback about this would be greatly appreciated...

This is the DEVELOPMENT forum. Not Q&A. Wrong forum. Plus, why would we want to use Boost's version off their S2, when we could grab 4.1.2 from the AOSP (already done) ? That makes no sense whatsoever.

To answer your question is because our device doesn't have an official update for Android 4.1.2 Jellybean, and this would be as close as we could get with some modifications to it, is it me or does it seem like people aren't interested in the question I asked, cause it seems like people are just being negative about it...

You are in the correct forums. Yay. Last stock for this device was 4.1.2 Jellybean. However there is a bazillion custom Roms that have been developed for this device up to and surpassing this version. Every individual phone behaves slightly different...keep this in mind. There were Telus, Bell wireless, Rogers and AT&T versions of original firmware available on this phone, possibly others. Most customs will likely work though. There are different methods which can be found in these forums of rooting your device and installing a custom recovery with which you can flash custom Roms. Have fun. Read lots and Google is your best friend. The community here can also be very helpful.

Your status 7 on gapps means you were using an outdated recovery. This may very well have been your issue. Though you switched to new cwm, you could have upgraded your twrp to gimmeitorilltell's 2.8.0.0 and you likely would have had no problem.
