Hey there,
so among others, I had a company email account on my Z3 compact, using Exchange ActiveSync. Meanwhile, they don't use Exchange anymore at the company and so I wanted to delete that account because I can't access my emails with the phone anymore anyways.
Now I found that it has also deleted almost all my phonebook entries since, apparently, they were connected to the Exchange ActiveSync account. I wasn't aware at all that it would do that, is there a way I can get the entries back?
Additionally, Google shortly afterwards requested I re-verified my password because of "suspicious activities" ?
Regarding phone specs, i have an xperia system update pending 23.5.A.1.291, no idea what Android version I have currently. No rooting.
Thanks for any and all comments.

OK...
So I've got 2.1, got it rooted and until I have the time to get rid of that horrible blue I thought I'd give Timescape another go... First up, big fail on the call log, but maybe they'll sort that with the next update later this year...
Then I had a look at using the standard e-mail so I would have my mail in Timescape. I'd been using the gmail app and moxier (for my exchange account at work). After playing around I've got two questions:
1. I had read that the android e-mail app supports exchange in 2.1 but it won't accept the details from my work server. Has anyone got an exchange account to work with the standard mail app? Or has SE decided we don't need this because we've got Moxier?
2. This may be pretty simple, but I just want to move an e-mail from my inbox to a folder.... is this not possible, or am I an idiot? (these aren't necessarily mutually exclusive )
EDIT: I read up again on this today - the active sync support is in 2.1, but it is up to the manufacturer to implement it due to licensing costs (google doesn't want to be giving microsoft money now, does it ) Which means we're stuck with moxier. All I really wanted was one calendar with everything in it (exchange and google) but the only way I can see of doing that is with a desktop sync, and we don't have desktop access to our exchange server as it is hosted (terminal server or active sync only...)

Hi,
I'm also afraid of using Moxier for Exchange sync and it's normally a "no go" for me.
But I don't have the update in Germany right now so I'll wait....and sell it after updating
I don't know why they (have to) use Moxier, but the integration has not taken place.
No merge of Moxier and X10 calendar! No Moxier widget that can be used instead.
But I think that there are not much people out there who miss the "integrated" Excange sync.
I've played with two other devices and I intend to change.
You can try K9 or ShangMail. Pretty cool apps for push email.

Oh well, thanks anyway guys. I guess I'll just have to keep things as they were...
Hello guys. I got my sgs2 with stock firmware 2.3.3 two weeks ago. I was able to set up every account flawlessly except for my exchange office email. It keeps displaying 'set up could not finish/ Cannot connect to server'. All my entries are correct and my network too is good. I tried connecting on my former device, samsung vibrant, and worked flawlessly. So also on some other devices i tried. I have read in this forum several solutions and inhave tried them all. Connect through wifi , using the exchange account under 'accounts and sync ', using 'edge' only type of connevtivity , i have also updated to stock 2.3.5 and still having the same problem. I dont want to change the email apk as some did and will prefer using the stock email app (not third party app)
Please, does anyone having any idea on getting my exchange account to connect on the sgs2? I need to sync my exchange contacts, mails and calender. Will appreciate every response to solving this problem.
Thanks guys

I know you don't want to use a third party app but your problem may be on the administrator side of your account. Try the demo of Touchdown Exchange and see if that works. If it does, then you know it's a samsung problem.
Btw, there is a limit to the number of phones you can add to your email account with exchange. Each time you put on a new rom, it treats this as a new phone. Through owa or outlook, check how many mobile devices are registered to your account.
Setup for Office 365 Exchange Account (Small Business)
I just got my SGS2 today and tried setting up my Office365 Exchange account.
I ran into issues, getting a similar error message to OP.
The solution was:
1st Screen
- on the 1st setup screen, fill in username and password
- choose "Manual Setup"
- when asked what type of account, choose "Exchange Activesync"
2nd Screen
- there are 3 fields: a) Domain:user name b) Password c) Exchange Server
a) format is domain\user name (i.e. whatever.com\[email protected])
b) already filled in
c) normally, server address is m.outlook.com when using Office365. Samsung dares to be different - you need to find your actual server address, not the generic one.
Go to this address to get details for filling in these fields: http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/dd936215.aspx
Once I accepted the various activation messages, an error message flashed very briefly, but then sync was established and I synced very quickly.
I think the message was: "Cannot open connection with server due to security error", but I can't be sure
I ignored that error message, as sync seems to be working perfectly, with "push" activesync.
This was discussed on the Office 365 forum. Here's the link: http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/160/t/5282.aspx
I realise you may not have Office 365 Exchange, but I'm posting this in case it may be of help in some way.
P.S. Must say, I'm very chuffed that Samsung's native Exchange client supports Tasks and SMS sync, in addition to the standard options. SMS Sync seems faster than it was on HD2...
thanks guys. I really appreciate all the responses. I have tried out the solutions provided . I installed the touchdown app and it worked straight away. my mails, calendar, contacts & talks sync completely.
I also read through the links provided above and really never made any error initially on setting up my exchange account. Though I still followed through the steps/settings for exchange setup and still encountered the problem. one thing I like to clarify is that I am not sure if the server in my office is 'office 365' has being explained on that site. I think we use the exchange 2007. if the exchange server type is the issue, will using one if the email apk posted under themes and apps section work for me if installed? Because, I really will prefer using a stock email app. or is there any other way I can get the stock email app to work without giving me those error messages?
Also, will installing one of the custom roms get it working?
I recently solved a real pain of an email issue I was having, and wanted to pass along the experience. I had tried searching these forums for several days, but didn't quite find my problem, and didn't find the solution all in one place. With that in mind, I'm hoping this information helps someone, even if a bit of it may be covered in other threads (sorry if so).
I had upgraded recently to JB 4.1.1, and was having a lot of problems getting my corporate/exchange email account to work. The calendar and contacts would work sometimes, and the email never got past the "waiting for sync" screen. Anytime the calendar and contacts would work, they would break after a reboot of the phone.
I also found that sometimes exchange account would stick around after it stopped working, and other times it would disappear (from the Android settings > accounts list) completely. I had set the accounts up both through the stock email app, and through a third - party email app (Enhanced Email, a good app).
I tried deleting and recreating the accounts, with varying settings (port numbers, accepting all security certificates, etc.). Later on, I went to my company's online web access for Exchange, and deleted all the mobile connections so that it would create a new connection for my current phone and ROM. I recreated the account (for what seemed like the 50th time) after that. Still no good.
The thing that made the difference: I finally read a tip somewhere to force stop the (stock) email client, and clear its cache and data. After that, the email app needed to be set up again, but email synched for the first time since I installed this ROM, and my calendar and contacts work reliably. It's been several days and reboots, and no further problems have come up.
I hope this helps someone, and again, apologies if the information is duplicative. I couldn't find it all in one place, and was really beating my head against the wall trying to find a fix.

Hi there, I think im glad i found this thread although not sure it will help with my corporate mail problem. My problem exists only with contacts not syncing from my corporate exchange account. My mail and calendar is ok just no contacts sync.
You mention to force stop the stock email client, can you advise the steps and exact name of the process? Do you mean in manage apps - All - Email ? I cant seem to stop that process its all greyed out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, due to my role i really need my exchange contacts to sync.
Cheers,
Hi guys,
My experience is different.
If you have problems to sync your email you need to clear all previous mobile connections from outlook (via outlook web access) and set up your account from zero on the device.
Quick question why do you use a third party email client? Do you have Samsung device? Got the same problem and had to move to a asop (CM10)
Samsung email client and exchange doesn't work well since the original Galaxy.

solution for me
For me what solved was a solution I found in another post here in the forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774978&page=2
In summary:
"Settings --> Data Usage --> Menu --> and check Auto Sync Data
Try setting up Exchange account again and you'll see the prompt to activate a Device Administrator this time. "
Hello!
I have the Samsung Galaxy SII - GT-I9100 model, running unmodified Android 4.0.3 and whenever I make a change to any contact on my phone (it's marked as a Google Contact, btw), it stays that way until I synchronize my account with google, when the contact will then be reverted to the way it is on Google.
I have no idea what's wrong and it has been like this ever since I bought the phone. If I go to my Google account and change a contact through the web, my cell phone will sync and bring the changes from the google server, but the opposite (pushing changes to the server) won't happen.
All my contacts are orgnized and stored in the "My contacts" group. My contacts application is showing only the contacts on the google account, so there's no conflict with any contacts that might be stored locally on the phone (I've deleted all the phone and SIM contacts just to make sure nothing like that gets in the way).
I'd appreciate any help you guys could provide. I'm not willing to root or install any other ROM on this phone, I'd like to keep it stock for several reasons, warranty being one of the most important.
Thank you very much!
I just updated the Android version to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and uninstalled any contacts manager I might have had (Go Contacts Ex) and tried again, but to no avail.
Anyone else with the same problem? Does this have anything to do with the "My Contacts" group on Google Contacts? All these contacts are stored in that group. I haven't changed since I organized all my contacts when I bought the phone.
If anyone could help, I'd pay you a beer (or a dozen, perhaps).
Thanks!
This thread is probably dead by now, and i'm not sure if anybody has figured out a solution to this issue. However i did find an intermediate solution with an app called "InTouchAPP" available in the playstore. It is an alternative solution to going through google's server in saving contacts. It integrates seamlessly with your phone, and you sign up for a username and password so you may never lose your contacts again.
I was having an issue in which i would save a new number and name it. Seconds later the name of the number would disappear. I tried going to directly to gmail.com and adding a contact and it would work. My only explanation was that my phone was not pushing information to the google server however google server was constantly overriding any new numbers i added on my phone.
If anybody has a better solution please share.
Best Regards,
Jonathan
Hello Everyone!
I have a problem with the Email app since Lollipop update .232 Europe CE1. I have many e-mail addresses, like private and company and other. I added 2 of my email addresses with IMAP and now I cannot add more, because if I want to do it, after the last step it says "Account not found. I might have been deleted.". I get this message with IMAP and with Exchange too (@live.com address). Does anyone have a solution for this? Or I'm the only one with this really annoying problem?
Thanks in advance
Well, it seems I'm the only one having this issue
Great! Maybe .264 update will solve this problem ...
Próbáld meg eltávolítani az összes e-mail fiókot és újra add hozzá. Ha ez sem működik akkor próbáld meg a Gmail alkalmazással, azzal hátha fog
Flashed .264, problem exists, so I give up. Waiting for my company phone next year and then I'll use my company emails on it.

I started having this problem but only after the e-mail app update that sony did recently. exactly the same "Account not found. It might have been deleted." error as you. I've seen similar reports on rom threads too, can't remember where exactly so you're not alone.
Anyway the good news is that i've always managed to get my 4 accounts working (2 gmail / 1 pop / 1 exchange) after trying to add them a bunch of times they finally stick (sometimes 10 tries sometimes more like 50 lol ... i'm really persistant xD )

Hello,
got the same issue. Just deleted my Exchange Account cause I've had some syncing issues. Now I'm getting this message, when I try to create the account on my phone again.
My other email accoutns are working perfect.
Haven't found anything about this issue on the www.
I'm on Customized DE 23.4.A.1.264
You got any idea right now how to solve it?
Greets,

I have no idea about this weird issue. Everything was flawless on 5.0.2, but since then the Email app is just a crap ... I'm on .264 too, but problem still exists. Maybe on Marshmallow ...
Hello,
Yesterday I found a solution for me.
First I made a Backup of my current configuration.
After that I deactivated every app that has to do with mail service.
Like exchange, email, kalender, etc. Also cleared all the data. Then I deactivated the auto sync service.
Now I restarted the mobile. Now activate all the apps again except exchange 5.*
After that I added my mail exchange account with success. Now just activate exchange 5 and auto sync. Get back the other mail accounts with the backup made before.
Right now everything is working for me.
Full wipe wasn't an option for me cause my mobile is encrypted.
N3087
I also got this "account not found. it might have been deleted" error.
story:
I rooted following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...ck-d6502-03-23-4-0-546-completeguide-t3171219
Did not try the Email app while briefly on 23.4.a.0.546. I am now on 23.4.a.1.200.
I came from 5.1.1, 23.4.a.1.232, D6503 where I backed up several app installs (apk). I happened to also backup the Email-app.
my solution:
I started the Email apk to see what version it was compared to the one I was running.
The same (8.1). I installed it over the existing install anyway to see what would happen.
I had one mail account added at this point.
NOW I could add another mail account!
BUT! When trying to add a second one, the error was back. So I installed the app again and I was able to add another mail account.
This was repeatable. I did this three times.
Thought: It MIGHT work to just reinstall the app you are already running if you get the apk. In my case the versions appeared to be the same.
I did not try to uninstall the Email app completely and then try to add accounts from "scratch".
Strange error with a strange "solution"; or work-around.
Edit: I did not try to add accounts until after I had removed a ton of Sony and Google crapware (my main reason for rooting).
So I dont know if the error is related to app removal.

Hello,
My phone isn't rooted and so I'm not able to uninstall pre-installed apps.
I hope this bug will be fixed on the next update...
SOLVED: Pause the Auto-Sync in Settings>Accounts
Good day to all! I stumbled across the solution (at least for me on my Z3c) by speed reading through all the previous replies and noting what seemed to pop out. Basically with auto-sync still activated the email app can't sync, delete, add, etc (decide) what it should do first. So, within Settings>Accounts tap the top right 3 dots and disable (uncheck) the auto-sync feature. Return to the email app (or I suppose calendar or any app causing a similar issue) and add the account. Once all accounts are added to the app, return to Settings>Accounts to re-enable auto-sync and all works (Finally!). Cheers!

Problem still not solved October 2016
I have the same problem with Xperia Z1 compact, Lollipop 5.1.1. I have two accounts but can not add the third, same message. Tried re-setting, clearing cache, didn't help. Autosync was already unchecked.
Seems to be a Sony problem, haven't seen anything on www about other vendors.
Any solutions other than rooting the phone or third party apps?
Thanks!
PS Sony has marked their threads as "solved" while it definetely is not. Little white lies.
