If it is jrummy boot animations the backup file will be in sdcard/romtoolbox/bootanimations/. Boot into twrp and select mount. Make sure system is checked. Then go back to home and select advanced. Then file manager. Navigate to your backup boot animation and copy it to /system/media/. Then navigate to /system/media/ and select your file. Rename to bootanimation.zip. (if it is named something else) Then chmod. Type in 0644 and swipe. Then reboot and it should boot.

I can't figure out where it puts it by default but ot has the option to choose where to backup. That doesn't help us much, though but I have a couple of ideas.
1. Chmod 0644 the current animation installed in system/media. (Usually the permissions are the problem.)
If that doesn't work...
2. Delete bootanimation.zip from /system/media completely. This should let it boot and it will display the default built-in bootani. Which is just android with like a shine.
If that doesn't work...
3. I can give you a bootanimation that you can put in system/media to get it to boot.

also send me the boot animation i can try that

I understand. A lot of the time, it is an error in the desc.txt file inside the bootanimation. There is a way to code it to where it will repeat a certain part of the animation until the device boots, but on a lot of devices...including my tablet it will just hang and never boot.
We need to either delete bootanimation completely or try a different one. The only other possibility is dm-verity, but if your bootloader is unlocked that shouldn't be the problem.

Yes, as long as it isn't there in /system/media it will bypass it. If it is the desc.txt that is the problem the device should boot.

Should be. The main thing was making sure system was checked, cause if not the file managet won't show anything in the system partition.

[Q] Can boot animations be flashed?

Can boot animations be flashed with hboot 1.5? Either with flash image or fastboot?
Yea splash screen can't though

You can even change boot animations with root explorer. I'm on 1.5 and I've done both without fastboot.

No, boot animations are not flashed through recovery. You need to to use use ES File/Root Explorer and replace the Sprint_bootanimation.zip or Sprint_downanimation.zip in the /system/customize/resource and make sure the permissions are set correctly.

Just a bit of fyi. If your using twrp 2.0 or 2.0.0r... whatever.... I always recommend always flashing it from the root of your sd card. For IE: say you make a folder called boot and downboot and you have them all saved there and your all good. So you have been flashing from there ( this goes w/ any flash)
One day you decide you want to redo your stuff and you figure you would re do your directory and put files in another place and delete the folders that you have previously flashed from. Next time you try to flash any zip you will recieve an error and not be able to flash any zip. This is a bit of advice from previous experience.
But yes you can flash a boot or downboot if it is set up that way, but would recommend always keeping on your root of your sd and then moving it later if need be bc you don't like to have that many files in the main directory.
Hope it helps for those that may not know already.

[Q] Why can I see files in system/ but not through adb or recovery?

When I use an explorer like ES explorer or Root explorer I can go to system/ and find several files & folders.
However, when going to recovery and using the TWRP File manager or by using ADB Shell the System-folder is empty except for a folder named bin/. No sign of build.prop or any other files/folders.
Can anyone please help me explain why this is so? Is this normal?
wish someone knew the answer to this
really irritating ... i am using note 2 using philz CWM it's alright and the aroma file manager works like a charm .. but using TWRP .. same problem even the aroma file manager get's crippled ...
i really prefer twrp .. but until there's a fix i am sticking to CWM

On the TWRP home screen, select mount and check the "system" box. You should now be able to browse the entire system directory.

You're my savior. Messed up by build.prop file so much to the point of bootlooping, and just needed to delete it and dirty-reflash my rom, without a computer. But everytime I would do that, it would preserve build.prop for some reason, anyway, Thanks

Lol... ran into this today and wanted to just impress upon folks just how amazing and encouraging it can be when someone takes the time to type out a response/suggestion.
In this case, 6yrs after the hnkotnis made this simple post, I'm rushing through a bunch of stuff, screwed up my build.prop (experimenting) and then came up against a roadblock where I couldn't restore my build.prop backup in TWRP.
I was confused as hell - I'm a relatively advanced used with several hundred ROM flashes under my belt and lots of troubleshooting capability but here I am absolutely stalled out on an issue that just drives me up the wall. I'm about to cave and just reset the phone entirely but figure I'll ask the question of Google.
I arrive here and within 10s I'm saying "Duh" to myself... grab the backed up build.prop, repeat the process and I'm back in business.
hnkotnis; if you're still around and part of this community - thank you! You're one of the good ones that make XDA what it is.
It might've seemed silly at the time and perhaps even a moment to make this post but I don't think we can understate the importance of community like this...
Cheers:highfive:

Archos Arnova AN7GH3 (7h G3) Need help

Hey there guys!
Well this is gonna sound a bit ridiculous but I've actually deleted Launcher2.apk and SystemUI.apk instead of copied them (stupid yeah I know I could eat my face off right now...) and I need them back. There's no official ROM available for download which pretty much sucks so I can't get them anywhere. So if anyone here has the same tablet as me, consider sharing those two system apps with me.
Thanks.

Just to be sure you have no way to reflash any firmware?
Else try to connect your tab to your computer and use adb even if your system bootloop. Try to install adb and push your missing files.
I doubt that there are no firmwares to download.
If they havr used the same boot like archos. The mount of the sdcard depend of the initramfs (ramdisk) not the OS.

It's not in a boot loop it just hangs at "bootanimation" (If you'd call it that I know I wouldn't) and wham stays like this forever.
Oh and another problem.
Code:
adb shell
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed no such file or directory (2) -
Can't push files from recovery because I need to mount /system. I can't do that because adb shell isn't working.
I don't see 7h G3 anywhere, see for yourself.

I assume you are talking about the sprint logo that starts after the Samsung logo, on the boot up and shut down of the device. You need to have your phone rooted, and have some type of file manager like Root Explorer. Then go to system/media there you will find three files 1. SPR_bootsamsung.qmp 2. SPR_bootsamsungloop.qmp 3. SPR_shutdown.qmp. The last time I messed with this I permanently lost my sprint logo. So be careful !!! MAKE A BACKUP FIRST. It seems to me I deleted the second file and the Samsung logo keeps working and the sprint logo stopped. :fingers-crossed:

I found those files in a stock MJ4 ROM zip I had saved but they are all *.qmg. Is that what you meant or is that a compressed version of the files?
EDIT: Those files are .qmg on my phone too so I do think that's what you meant.

The qmp files on the zip are compressed. The files I listed earlier would be found in the rom on your device with a file manager. Those would NOT be compressed and in use. I would copy and paste those files to an external sdcard or a pc. You can use your internal sdcard, but if something happens and you have to do a reset, you may not be able to get back to those files.

Stuck in bootloop due to chainfire 3D(Lollipop)

Hello Guys! So here's the story I have the moto E(XT1022).Yesterday I installed chainfire 3D, then it tried to reboot but got stuck on the blue moto logo.My phone is rooted and and has lollipop 5.0.2 from the soak test.I have TWRP recovery[v2.7.2.0].So after this happening,I restored a previous backup but then it got stuck on starting apps...Then I did a factory reset,That didn't work as well,it too got stuck on starting apps. Then I tried doing this:
"Look for libGLESv1_CM.so and rename it to libGLESv1_CMcf.so"
But it didn't work and it gets stuck before the moto logo appears when the various globe pictures rotate and do stuff.
That is everything i have done and now I don't know what to do.
Please Help! Thanks.
