Can boot animations be flashed with hboot 1.5? Either with flash image or fastboot?
Yea splash screen can't though

You can even change boot animations with root explorer. I'm on 1.5 and I've done both without fastboot.

No, boot animations are not flashed through recovery. You need to to use use ES File/Root Explorer and replace the Sprint_bootanimation.zip or Sprint_downanimation.zip in the /system/customize/resource and make sure the permissions are set correctly.

this is incorrect, just FYI. You can flash boot and downanimations, no matter where they are stored.

Just a bit of fyi. If your using twrp 2.0 or 2.0.0r... whatever.... I always recommend always flashing it from the root of your sd card. For IE: say you make a folder called boot and downboot and you have them all saved there and your all good. So you have been flashing from there ( this goes w/ any flash)
One day you decide you want to redo your stuff and you figure you would re do your directory and put files in another place and delete the folders that you have previously flashed from. Next time you try to flash any zip you will recieve an error and not be able to flash any zip. This is a bit of advice from previous experience.
But yes you can flash a boot or downboot if it is set up that way, but would recommend always keeping on your root of your sd and then moving it later if need be bc you don't like to have that many files in the main directory.
Hope it helps for those that may not know already.

I have pushed a custom bootanimation.zip (Android Scribbler one) to both /data/local and /system/media, but the animation of the boot that I'm getting is still HTC's default.
Can somebody tell me what I did wrong? Or is it just not possible to change the bootanimation for the stock Wildfire ROM?
I have attached the custom bootanimation that I'm trying to use if that helps to identify the problem.
Thanks in advance.
unless you root your wildfire, im pretty sure your very limited to what you can do, unless it is in the form of an app, and even then i dont think bootscreens are possible on the stock rom!!!
I got it working. Apparently the real bootanimation.zip that you need to replace is stored in system/customize/resource
how did you replace the original bootanimation.zip ? i'm trying to replace it using AndExplorer and it won't let me ... my device is rooted with unrevoked ...

use adb and push the bootanimation.zip (which must be in the tools folder which is inside your android-sdk folder) to /system/customize/resource, /data/local, /system/media, i think you only need to push it to the first one, but i did all 3 just in case

I got it to work. Either use bootanimation.zip and push it via adb or go into recovery and use my update.zip.
Update.zip also removes the bootsound

PS: works on stock rom, tested it on my wildfire

Nope, the update.zip does not work for me. I tried replacing it with the root explorer but all it does is reset the phone after I'm done copying it. I use WilpuzzleROM 0.7 and the boot animation is in 2 locations; /system/customize/resource and /data/local. Whether i push the zip file via adb to /system/customize/resource or use the update.zip it does not matter, the boot animation is still the same. It looks like the one from /data/local overwrites the one in /system/customize/resource. It worked only after i issued the command adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local.

Ok, for custom roms like yours, you have to find the correct location. otherwise my update.zip works for "standard" location.

Hello,
It can't change the original cyanogen bootanimation
I have HTC wildfire with Cyanogen7 (2.3.7)
I reboot it with recovery and install update.zip (from mcpat), and initially copied to sdcard.
no changes
sincerely,
For cm7 put animation zip in data/local change permissions of zip to read write reboot and enjoy hope this helps.

Clearify this for me.
Can you get into hboot at all? If you have adb and fastboot already installed and configured on your computer you should be able to do: adb shell reboot bootloader.
What does it say at top? Unlocked or Relocked? If relocked then proceed.
Do you have a PH85IMG.zip file on the root of the external sdcard?

is there a way to push this file from the computer when I'm in the hboot?
if not, do you have the latest Various Stock 1.36.351.6 that i can install from the ClockWorkMod Recovery?
b.t.w what is the difference between Deodex and Odex version?

You cannot push a file to the sdcard via fastboot. It must be there already when the hboot is activated so that it can be detected and prompt you to update.
There is a version however I could never get it to install. It always gives me an error.
Difference between deodex and odex is simply the way that the files are compiled. For example the odex version you will see files such as Browser.apk, Browser.odex, Calculator.apk, Calculator.odex, Calendar.apk, Calendar.odex, etc. The de-odexed is simply the *.odex files already compiled with the .apk files. So there will not be a Browser.odex, Calculator.odex, etc. Is there a difference performance wise? None that I've noticed personally. However it does make it easier to theme when there isn't a .odex file involved and it's also a lot easier to manage.
Back on topic... do you have another sdcard to try? Perhaps the one that you are using is corrupted somehow? Remember to properly unmount the device before you unplug it.
i do have another sd card (in my hd2) with ext 2 pert'. i will give it a try later on.
but the strange thing is that on this phone i didnt put any sd card, i only use the internal card.
another thing, i cant boot into the hboot if i turn of my phone, only after i pull the battery out.

Whe I change the boot animation in the rom's .zip do I then reflash the rom?
And if so do I do a wipe or just reflash without any wipe.
Thanks
you can just make a zip with the bootanimation and then flash that only.. no need to reflash the rom
Any time I have tried to just flash the zip with the boot animation it didn't take and the animation for the rom I am running (CleanRom) is still present.

Did you make sure that the bootanimation.zip in located in the in the same directory in the flashable zip as it is in the rom. For example, alot of roms the boot animation is located in system/media, therefore it would need to be in the same directory in the flashable zip. you can also just use a file manager like root explorer or es file explorer and just swap out the animations.
It seems like swapping them out is a tad easier

The file you downloaded should be camera blah blah.zip. There are probably a couple of files in it. I don't usually look because I don't care. I'm thinking you're getting side tracked in the menu...Here is how using AmonRA3.15:
Put it on the root of your ext-SD card (SD card). Boot into recovery----->flash zip menu---->Choose zip from SD card---->(select it)---->power button---->press power to confirm...and done.

Turn off automatic extraction of files in whatever browser you're using. When you download it it extracted it to a folder with the same name as the zip. Or you could use windows to put it back in a zip file.

If it is jrummy boot animations the backup file will be in sdcard/romtoolbox/bootanimations/. Boot into twrp and select mount. Make sure system is checked. Then go back to home and select advanced. Then file manager. Navigate to your backup boot animation and copy it to /system/media/. Then navigate to /system/media/ and select your file. Rename to bootanimation.zip. (if it is named something else) Then chmod. Type in 0644 and swipe. Then reboot and it should boot.

I can't figure out where it puts it by default but ot has the option to choose where to backup. That doesn't help us much, though but I have a couple of ideas.
1. Chmod 0644 the current animation installed in system/media. (Usually the permissions are the problem.)
If that doesn't work...
2. Delete bootanimation.zip from /system/media completely. This should let it boot and it will display the default built-in bootani. Which is just android with like a shine.
If that doesn't work...
3. I can give you a bootanimation that you can put in system/media to get it to boot.

also send me the boot animation i can try that
I understand. A lot of the time, it is an error in the desc.txt file inside the bootanimation. There is a way to code it to where it will repeat a certain part of the animation until the device boots, but on a lot of devices...including my tablet it will just hang and never boot.
We need to either delete bootanimation completely or try a different one. The only other possibility is dm-verity, but if your bootloader is unlocked that shouldn't be the problem.

Yes, as long as it isn't there in /system/media it will bypass it. If it is the desc.txt that is the problem the device should boot.
