Mystery System data taking up 3GB of space - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hello, I have this problem on my Redmi.
There seems to be a big chunk of 'invisible files' that take up 3 gigabytes of space ('misc'). Using the DiskUsage app it shows system data.
Has anyone encountered this problem before?
I don't want root and custom ROM on this phone.
Screen in attachment.

I have this 453MB...
I would try clean flash if i were u
Also my cache is around same number, yours is strangely low.

I know. I have the same idea.
But this is my mum phone and she doesn't want clean flash..
She have a lot of strange settings and I can't backup all of them.
So I'm searching other options.

Try restarting once or twice and then report back!

Wipe cache/dalvik/system

Factory reset after root?

My software on my droid x2 isn't doing good. From what I have seen something will happen in the background that causes all my system apps to restart, only they never finish restarting which begins to devour my memory and eventually leads to my phone freezing up. Also the ringtones like to change randomly to default (alarms set in third party apps too).
I was hoping rooting and getting rid of bloatware would solve this problem but it is still persisting. I thought I could restore backed up system apps with Titanium Backup so I was removing the apps. I'll leave them "restoring" for 45 minutes with no luck (I tried both just restoring the app and restoring both apps and data). So apparently it doesn't work like that.
My question is if I do a factory reset with my phone in its current condition, will I have an issue?
If u diddnt freeze the apps then you might. Did u back them up before u removed them?
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Yes I backed up all of them, but when I go to restore them it doesn't work. It just keeps restoring them eternally. I waited 45 minutes for app only restore and it wasn't done.
If I am just clearing data in the process of a factory reset, can I maybe wipe data manually or with a tool that wipes data?
Anyone know the answer to this? I tried installing from the apk pack of services, but not all of them would install. My phone really needs a factory reset, I'm getting a lot of software related errors.
Could I maybe manually wipe certain apps? If anyone happens to know which built in apps are okay to wipe I would like to know.

Not all the apps in system can be installed via tapping on them. They need to be manually moved to system/app then change permissions. You can copy all over using root explorer

Hey nitro... Glad to see you here! Do your future plans include developing for the X2. I was feeling the dark ROMs you supported on the Fascinate!

Nothing. You will just have a rooted out of the box fresh condition phone.

All you need to do is swap internal and external mount points. My Eclipse ROM has this built in. There is an init.d script that is floating around here that will do it as well.

SGS2 boot loop problem. Only solution is Delvik Cache Clean Up.

Hello I have been using my sgs2 for 4 months now and for less than a month ago after I installed SPB SHELL 3D using lucky patcher, at first things were fine for 1 week or something and suddently it started boot looping. I can only get it to work again if I do a delvik cache clean up. Basically my situation right now is, I have to do a delvik cache clean up everytime I restart my phone or else the phone will keep boot looping. It loops right after or while the media scanning takes place. Sometimes long after I keep it idle n unlock the screen to select my launcher, then it crashes n reboots. But after a delvik cache clean up everything works fine as long as I keep my phone on.
One more thing, even if I select the default launcher I always have to select which launcher in ever boot. Setting are not saved for some reason.
What could be the problem? I really dont want to do a factory reset, I never did one before and im sure ill loose all setting and all data in each apps.
Btw I have a rooted phone...
Thanks....

Grab titanium backup pricey but worth every penny, use that to backup your apps and settings, and then factory reset and restore back.
Otherwise backup apps and data for apps with titanium and upgrade your rom to a newer version.
Im waiting for ICS, but ill loose root if I update rom. N finding the root process for new rom is a whole new story...
Update on my phones problem:
I noticed, it does a bootloop cuz SPB is patched n it keeps tryin to check licence n crashes n for some reason IM+ lite autostart makes it worse... Though nowadays im+ gets removed along with many other apps for no reason.

Update:
The problem feels like its related to my SD Card... Maybe because of too many apps installed in SD... About 310 apps in total

[Q] Advice on a soft brick.

It's a random softbrick, no changes have been made for months, so I've not backed up for ages, I want to svae contacts and messages and app data.
Will odin wipe data, can it be repaired with CWM no wipe flash?
Long version.
I've been using ICS for 4 months.
I did a wipe and fresh install on the release of the official GB ICS.
I then used clockwork mod to changle toggles and clock, then triangle away.
Things were ok until a month ago when I hit the App to SD memory bug, which was fixed be removing apps back to internal.
Again been fine for about a month.
Then today, random lock on "Samsung Galaxy s II gt-9100" screen.
No changes have been made for ages, the only change was adding on{x} today.
Whats the best way to try and get this fixed? I want to save as much data as I can, I've not backed up for a few months, as I wasn't ,making any changes.
Should I just Just use odin and see what happens, or is there a better way, even if it is longer?
Can I put a no wipe flash on my SD and use CWM to try and repair? Is this a more complicated risk move? if so whats the risk.
I'd really like to keep as much as I can 'cos I've got the perfect setup for me (besides the boot lock...)
THanks folks.

Yeah, thanks for the help anyway.
I didn't know if using CWM to flash a different rom would work.
I was hoping a no wipe rom would fix the error was and keep my apps and data.
It didn't.
I used odin to flash a base > then CWM > then resurection.
I've lost loads of data :-(
But my phones sweet
lol, you win some and you loose some.
I really should know better, as a sys admin I bollock folks all the time for not doing backups. luckily I backed up messages recently, so should also have contacs there. Just all my save games, app data, is gone
THanks

15gb of storage eaten by: ????

So, i have a huge problem. My tab's internal storage is being used by something unknown to me.
After looking around on the forums and the allmighty internet, I found the app called "DiskUsage" to help me narrow down the search for the mystical black hole in my storage.
What i find is nearly 15gb of space being eaten by "System Data". I attempted to look for files that could be using the space but failed to do so.
I then went on to format the entire tablet in CWM (system/sd-card etc) and again opened the DiskUsage app to see if anything changed. Links to the pictures are in the attatchment.
Does anyone have any idea on how I find and get rid of whats clugging my system?
Thanks in advance,
- Nicklas
I'm sorry for this shameless bump. But anyone have a single clue on how I can fix this?
And here's another one. I really can't find the answer anywhere. Anyone have a single clue?
Flash a stock rom with odin and perform a wipe from the stock recovery. You may have to use a pit file also.

I have eaten space too like you, i looked that when i installed CM 10 unofficial version it seems that doesnt erase at all when i did a wipe factory reset probablly you have the apps that you had In the last room, i dont know how to fix it..

Going to attempt this and see what happens. Hopefully it works out!
That did the trick! Thanks alot!!
In the future, check if you have a folder on sdcard labeled: LOST.DIR. I am not sure exactly what it is for, but I had one taking up almost 6gb on my phone a few months back, and after doing some research discovered that it basically contains "lost" files and is completely safe to delete. I backed it up to my computer just in case. On my Tab, I have the same folder, but it was only a few kb in size, so I haven't messed with it.

How much storage do i really have?

Hi,
I bought a Z5C thinking it had 32GB.
I have MM installed with minimal apps installed, I haven't had time to load my phone up with loads of apps which inevitably happens over time.
In settings it says i have used 12.19GB of 16.00GB. Ok so I have only 16GB, that's a bit a crap, on Sony's site it says 32GB**:
**Memory comprises approximately 5 GB of firmware, plus 27 GB of “Internal storage” for music, pictures and films, and downloaded applications and their data. However in ES File Explorer it says I have used 4.81GB of 8.24GB? What?
My phone has an unlocked bootloader, is rooted and has TWRP recovery.
Can someone help me with my arithmetic please?

re-flash .224 stock firmware via flashtool and let it boot up first time. After that, you should see 32GB. I've met this 16GB issue a few days ago but in my case, I was upgraded to MM Xpower v3.0 from LP base without flashing stock to re-construction the partition.
Try repairing the file system of the data partition in the wipe menu in twrp. I had the same problem and this fixed it without wiping my data

I didn't even know you could do that with TWRP, thanks for the education.
For anyone else who is suffering from this I did the following with TWRP 3.0.2-0:
boot into recovery
select WIPE on the main screen
select Advanced Wipe
select Data partition
select Repair File System
should get the following message
"Repairing Data using e2fsck..."
"Done."
reboot
I now have 32GB. Much appreciated.
I came across this bug today and tried method mentioned in post above, but unfortunately it failed. Then I tried to repair /system partition and it worked - ~22GB is now accessible again.
I was so happy to find this post! I got the same problem, only 16Go available. I don't know what I could make wrong to get this problem.
A repair of the data partition didn't solve the problem but as michuroztocz, after a repair of the system partition I've the 32Go back!! A good news, I didn't lost the whole configuration of the phone.
I only get an error when I try to repair system, /sbin/effect -fp /dev/block/mmcblk0p43 process ended with error: 4
well i tried every thing mentioned above nothing seems to work for me haha of course...
yet again my problem isnt the 32gb storage it says I have 32 but its mostly used (31.25) I deleted a backup that is 6GB and deleted around 1000 files (photos and videos) so thats at least another 3-5 GB if not 10 but lets go with the least!, still it shows in phone settings storage I have used 31.25/32 gb and in TWRP it says I have 2.3GB free and in ES file explorer it says : 21.18/22.57 used
WTF?!!
