Hi, I just (fully?) bricked my Fire HD 7 4th gen.
I tried powerpoint45 Linux ISO unbrick system, but with no luck. Handshake script recognize device and run ok but when i try to run ./reader.sh it just stuck forever. I read, in that case my device is hard bricked without option to unbrick it. But I also read, there is something like "special" fastboot cable. Is there any chance to unbrick in my case?
I've no recovery and OS. Device don't react on button, I tried many combinations. The only sign of live is get Fire HD connect to computer and see in device manager there is "MT65xx Preloader"' device.
I've disasembled back cover if this helps.
Can you provide more details? What version of fire OS are you on and what exactly did you do that caused the device to brick? Without at least knowing that much people won't be able to help.
Ok, I'll start from the beginning. I originally had FireOS 5.3.1.1 and successfully downgrade my Fire HD to FireOS 4.5.3 so I can root device and flash recovery (this tutorial -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/how-to-downgrade-to-4-5-3-root-device-t3139351). Then i follow this tutorial to get Lollipop ROM and root -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/root-os-5-1-2-kingroot-tools-play-store-t3371824. There are steps to do when OS is less than 4.5.5 (me). Tutorial said "upgrade OS to 5.1.2". I had sideloaded file update-kindle-20.5.4.2_user_542168620.bin but then i accidentally reset system (tutorial said to do factory reset and then restart system). Thats my flow to brick Fire HD 7 4th
Did you ever find a solution to this?

I installed twrp on my kindle 8.9, then i installed a couple of roms onto it. It worked just perfect. That until i got bored of the CM and i wanted to get back to the original OS. I followed the instructions on this site : //androidcowboy.com/2013/06/how-to-return-kindle-fire-hd-to-stock// , and then it got stuck to the static white/orange boot screen. I tried several restore softwares like kfhd, kffa, kindle unbrick, utilities and then i got the redscreen. After that i searched the internet and everyone adviced me to use either the kfhd uility or the kffa, and then BOOM, the device won't turn on.
I read that i could do the shorting trick, but nobody tried that. Is my kindle bricked for good, or do I still have any hope?
Have you tried holding the power button down for 30 seconds, releasing, then trying to boot?

First & foremost, you say you did this on a "Kindle Fire HD 8.9". Is this correct? If so, you are in the WRONG forum. This is for the NEW Kindle model, called the HDX.
If you do something for the HDX on the HD you will likely make the situation much worse. If you truly are on the OLDER Kindle Fire HD, then you can ALMOST ALWAYS recover using fastboot, but that will require either buying or making a factory fastboot cable.

Yes, i have the 8.9 hd model not the hdx. I tried holding the power button for 30 sec/ 1min , but it didn't work. And i don't know if any recovery/fastboot cable could help me, the device won't even turn on. Also, im sorry for misplacing this thread, but by any chance, does anyone know what should i start with? Maybe an older thread or anything.

Here is where you should start. http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hd
As I have BOTH the HD 8.9 & the HDX 8.9, I can tell you that a factory fastboot cable would likely work. It allows you to flash over adb, like other normal Android devices. At any rate, there are several threads & tools available in the forums I linked above that should help to get you going again.
My fire 6 HD OS Was 5.1.2
1- I flashed it by OS 4.5.3 via adb
2- It started 4.5.3 then downloaded 4.5.5 ( automatic update)
3-then stop working at all .
in the PC device manager appears ( MT65xx preloader ) for few seconds then disappear then reappear etc etc etc .
any ideas ??
NOW I Installed the driver for ( MT65xx preloader )
then
it becomes
Media Tek PreLoader USB VCOM (Android)(COM6) in the device manager
but is also appear and disappears !!
any Ideas to complete ???

There is no known way to unbrick what you have.
On other hand, it is interesting that 4.5.5 now bricks after 5.1.2. Was it 4.5.5 or 4.5.5.1 (if you remember) ?

Please see post 3. No solution. But can you tell us if you were on OS 5.1.2 OR 5.1.2.1 before you sideloaded 4.5.3? (5.1.2.1 has a March date.)
I assume sequence was same: On 5.1.2 (or 5.1.2.1), sideloaded 4.5.3, then 4.5.3 OTA upgraded to 4.5.5. And then what? It just wouldn't boot after 4.5.5 installed? Did you see progress bar and then it died? Black screen or do you see a logo? Thanks.

My problem is a slightly bit different. I looked and it said i was on 4.1.1 or 4.1.3 i believe, was the original OS upon recieving the device.
I literally just opened the package set it up, then installed two apps and found that Kingo root I believe it was, successfully rooted the device for me. I was connected to WiFi so of course it automatically downloaded the current update. I couldn't find a way to stop the auto update but there was a notification saying an aupdate was available so I just cleared it and planned on not updating at all until I could confirm this wouldn't happen.
I added a few books from my nexus 7 and sideloaded moon reader, both using es file explorer. I then looked away and all the sudden the device turned off and started 'applying update' and I thought F#%K!!! I knew it was too late, and I didn't look into it enough to find a way to stop it. I didn't think it would just do it without my okay.
Makes me mad. But after the update finished it just goes directly to Fire System Recovery with the orange exclamation mark with reboot system or reset to factory defaults. It tries to reboot twice then goes to this every time. Both achieve nothing.
So unfortunately I am unaware of what update it downloaded and applied against my will. I'm assuming the latest if its possible to jump that high.
I've had and fixed so many devices from tablets to phones to iOS devices, this is the first and only time that a device that quickly became screwed up and not only that, apparently is unfixable.
Can't believe Amazon doesn't have a software like Samsung Kies or something. Come on amazon.

This kind of reminds of the other bricking epidemic, when people tried to upgrade from 4.5.5.1 to FireOS 5 from Oct and bricked a lot. And the devices are no longer under warranty ...
I'm in the same boat. I was using 5.4.2, then sideloaded 4.5.3 (it was a mistake, the idea was to sideload 5.2.2), then manually upgraded to 5.2.2 (copy to device and update from settings menu). I went to dinner and when I returned there was a black screen. When connected to PC, MT65xx keeps appearing and disappearing.
Edit: these are the bin names, not necessarily the OS version.
I can help in creating MT8135 scatter (or at least I can try) but I need a working device first. Can someone with a working device PM me?
I also have a bricked Fire HD 6.
I have a similar situation where it blinks in and out as MT65xx preloader. Plugged in, its bootlooped with the amazon screen. Unplugged theres a low battery sign. Plugged in, there seems to be that with the lightning recharge symbol.
I think I'd successfully rooted and everything, using the "[ROOT] With Kingroot and Tools + Play Store + Launcher (Newbie Friendly)" guide, up until trying to use NOVA LAUNCHER to replace the stock launcher. I noticed the tool with the scripts had a script to do the swap, so since the "set nova as default" wasn't working I decided to do that. I got bootlooped at that point, then stupidly tried a factory reset in the TWRP boot menu to start everything from square one. It seemed more or less locked in that bootlooped state where my computer seemed unable to connect.
However a day later I managed to get to the TWRP boot menu. But then the battery symbol started showing up, and I can no longer get to that menu.
This is sad day.
Same boat but with a KF HD7 2014 4th gen. No updates?

I used the almighty wipe feature of safesortrap and now i have no zips on the device, no way to put them on it, i tried adb push, sideload, etc. i do have a fastboot cable, although when it is plugged in to the fastboot cable, it wont turn on at all. my computer recognizes it as an unknown
device in safestrap, troubleshooting doesnt work. I have the OS I need, I just need a way of getting it onto the device. Any help is greatly appreciated! c: NOTE: 3rd gen kindle fire hdx 7. Also, is it possible when it is unbricked to unlock the bootloader in this situation?
Depends on the Fire OS version you had installed. Only versions below x.3.2.4 are unlockable (i.e. 3.2.3.2 or lower). Note that you can NOT downgrade below 3.2.8 once 3.2.8 or higher have been installed! Attempt would brick the device, thanks to rollback protection by amazon.
Which Safestrap version do you have installed, and what did you wipe?

Don't be so quick, Safestrap v4 has a built-in System-wipe-protection, could've helped here.
Stay away from amazon's stock recovery! Using it with Safestrap installed will brick the device!
Try to get adb access, I think there's a thread somewhere here where a user was able to get access and to revive the HDX. May be the PDA drivers help regarding that. If not, try the original amazon drivers again.
Also try different USB cables, the HDX is surprisingly picky regarding cables. Fastboot cables won't work anyway btw.
You mean the PDANET drivers?
Nvm found it, trying this
I have adb access, i think it was the cable and im a noob, thank you for your time!
Kindle Fire THOR Black Screen wont connect to ADB
Okay so long long story short- my daughter has a kindle fire HD 7 inch version 3rd generation tablet. I did root it a while back and thought I had disabled the updates. However she accidentally so how allowed the updates and duringt the process it went black screen and wont boot or do anything at all. I have read countless forums and tried almost all the un-bricking tools out there as well as the commands in ADB. Currently what I have concluded is that the tools and typical un-bricking methods wont work since the tablet will not power on it wont connect to the computer in ADB mode and I have no idea if its in USB debugging mode at this time.
It will sorta power on (screen still blank- by holding the power button for 20 secs) and the computer "senses" it but at that point it will not be recognized by the PC, and give the error that the "USB device has malfunctioned". I have tried about everything out there- can you guys help me out to get the power back on at least where I can get the ADB to recognize the device? Thanks in advance.
Oh- I did purchase a fastboot cable as well but that did not help matters at all.....

You mentioned "THOR" in the title later expanding that to "HD 7". They are two distinctly different devices. For the purpose of this post I'll assume you are referincing a 3rd gen HDX 7 device (Thor). Unfortunately nothing can be done short of board replacement which is not cost effective given the current price point of pre-owned devices in good condition. As you probably read fastboot/factory cables are useless on HDX models which is the only way to communicate with an otherwise comatose device. Sorry for your daughter's loss. Poke around action sites like eBay; I have seen supposedly new 16GB HDX 7's going for $50-60 USD. If you daughter is younger a 5th gen 7" fire is a good alternative as it can be rooted and with several quality custom ROMs available you FireOS is not to you/her liking.
Thanks

Question
Apologies, to hasty in getting a question onto the forums
Hello,
I have a Fire HDX 8.9 (4th Gen/2014) saturn with Fire OS 4.2
I was probably a bit premature when I rooted my tablet and then wanted to update with a custom rom. I did the following steps:
Rootet the tablet with Kingroot successfully
Installed the ADB driver on my Windows 10
enabled "USB Debugging Mode" on the tablet
downloaded the "platform-tools"
downloaded "unlock.zip" (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ki...r-firmware-t3463982/post70881555#post70881555)
successfully run "get_code.bat"
downloaded aboot and twrp for Thor (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2twXJIOgv-URzJDQkczNzRLaHM)
uplodaded it on my sdcard and run the following commands
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/twrp_cubed.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
dd if=/sdcard/aboot_vuln.mbn of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/aboot
run "unlock.bat" -> the tablet was black and never restarted.
I tried it to reboot by holding power (and volume +) button for more than 45seconds. Without any success. I have already bought a "fastboot cable" which will be delivered in 1-2 days.
Can someone please tell me what I did wrong and how I can rescue my tablet? Thank you very much!
Best Regards

Your device is toast. 4th gen HDX devices can not be bootloader unlocked. Flashing a 3rd gen aboot will (did) yield a hard brick. Sorry for your loss.

4th gen HDX devices can not be unlocked; likely a 3rd gen.
As a data point -- given that this thread is timely with my recent (and successful) root, unlock, and install of TWRP, LineageOS, and GAPPS on my Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 3rd generation "apollo" -- I followed this list of steps:

I too am wondering about the "saturn" version of the Fire HDX.

Saturn is a 4th gen device; no bootloader unlock or custom ROM. FireOS builds below 5.3.2.1 can be rooted.

hello,
my hdx 7inch "thor" I believe is stuck and bricked.
It was on an old firmware that was rootable with towelroot, and it was towelrooted with supersu installed. no safestrap, no custom rom, no twrp, no bootloader unlock. I was aware of the issue of this tablet so I never really mess with it. well until I handed this to my relative and she tried to do a factory reset in the settings to set up her own amazon account.
when I connect it to my laptop and tried adb I get either device offline or unathorized.
let me know if it's not unbrickable, so I will accept the loss.
thanks
