Flashing MODEM_419D_V.00050. How to backup the old one first? - LeEco Le Max 2 Questions & Answers

So, I'm planning to flash MODEM_419D_V.00050 to my x829, running stock 16s. I don't want to flash a whole new different region stock ROM (23s) just to get the modem upgraded. Also, I've read that the modem files contain the fingerprint firmware as well, so that's a plus. I want to do it because I've always liked to have the latest versions of everything and keep it all updated. Just for the protocol - I don't have any modem or fingerprint problems with the stock 16s that my phone came with.
What should I backup, so I can go back if something goes wrong, or my network starts misbehaving? And how should I do it?
Thanks.

Link to all modems available here https://yadi.sk/d/5v2p3F7o3GJBxn posted by someone in finger print thread. Just change as you wish if one does not work etc.

16S is too old. Get yourself on something more recent with a more up to date security patch level.

419D is newest right? Than is 23S?
Do you know changelog or diference. I have problem with GPS on Small EUI V10 where is newest modem.

Not sure about the radio files. I use the one from 23S. Regarding ROMs, the D ones are the more alpha or early beta experimental dev test ROMs. 23S is a stable beta I believe. I think 21S is actually the last official Chinese release. 19S was the last Indian release, maybe? Looks like that side of LeEco's business has gone down the pan, so wouldn't be surprised if they don't release any more. LeEco seem to be in a bad way financially, so praying that we at least get an N based update before they go pop!

16s is the latest for x829. Actually, it's the only available US ROM and from that point of view it is the most up-to-date of it's kind

Makes no difference which you use as every one of them has bugs. Using 20s Chinese currently and can't get Gmail to come through auto and sometimes don't get texts sent to me and often sends 5 texts to someone when I send just 1.
I am very tempted to sell it and but a oneplus 3.

That's one of the most tragic truths of this phone. LeEco abandoned US users of this model, in favor of a specific US model. The 16S modem is the only one I have found which supports WiFi Calling with Tmobile (which is the only US carrier which supports that feature on this phone.) So we are stuck using it, unless LeEco releases an update which incorporates this functionality.
Basically, if you are in the US, and need WiFi calling, don't bother trying other ROMs which are incompatible with the 16S modem, or other modems. It probably won't work for you.

You're right about the incompatibility. I was using Small EUI (23s) rom and tried to flash 16s modem on top of it but then the phone refused to boot up.

how can I find my modem version?

I have 23s modem installed but my baseband version shows a 19 in the name not 23 as per pic which is strange. I installed it again too to make sure I had installed it ok.

No, it shows 33 , take glasses on

Yeah but if you look at the modem download page all Chinese modems end in 33 lol. It was just the 1.9 at beginning I was referring to and nowhere on that baseband does it mention 23s?

What Modem had D466? Anybody tested?

Did flashing modem actually helped someone with "dead" fingerprint Reader?

I read in other threads that flashing developer modern helps.
But the question is how to back up original modem?

Heyyo, boot to TWRP and go to backup and scroll down to firmware and select it... She's hidden at the bottom of that scroll menu. Took me a bit to figure it out heh
Tbh I find Chinese firmware 23s or 26s better. They are technically modem firmwares but they do also affect fingerprint reader in sleep mode

Thats fine, I installed the latest dev modem firmware. I thought it may help me see something in qxdm, most monitoring fields seem to be empty for me. But it didnt help... The providers here are using bands 1, 3 and 7 mostly. I get less than 50mbit downlink speed most of the time I know the connection is good in the area because when I put the sim into another phone, I get up to about 150mbit.

Ah you might benefit then from checking your band selection from this thread but I'm not 100% sure.

Tbh I myself use Chinese 26s firmware since I find it gives me the most reliable signal and the fingerprint reader speed is ok. Developer firmwares to me are the opposite with fastest fingerprint reader but worse signal quality
https://yadi.sk/d/woKdrlRrv8yhr/Китай
I'm on the Chinese 26s from that link. the one without 0509. Of course results vary from user to user so you can always tinker to your heart's content as to which modem firmware compliments you the best.

[Q] Is it necessary to flash ROW ROM over a Chinese one?

Starting this thread to answer a very simple question.
I find some answers scattered through responses in a lot of other threads, but all the information is too spread out to be useful, so I'm trying to get all that info in a single thread.
Most of us will get their P780 through a Chinese website. Most of them will have an English interface probably, but are still the Chinese models.
The main difference is explained elsewhere, so not going into that. Just wondering, I'm living in Europe, but temporarily in Australia.
I have an Australian SIM1, and my European SIM2. Works just fine. Full reception on SIM2 all the time, SIM1 is kind of unstable, going from full reception to almost nothing and back when on 3G. But apart from that, fast data transfer.
In most countries, 3G on 900Mhz is not that popular anyways.
So, is there any reason to flash an ROW rom to a Chinese phone ?
- 3G 900Mhz band not available on Chinese models : does the ROW change that ? Or can you change it by flashing a different modem image or can't you enable 3G 900Mhz at all on them?
- custom ROM support : but so far I haven't seen a ROM interesting enough to do this. Most of us will want the latest android version, which is only VIBE 1.5 on Chinese ones anyways at this moment. SLX and Life look ok, but I don't see much difference with the VIBE roms (UI wise).
- English interface : you can switch the Chinese models to English without too many issues (some text still in Chinese, but not too annoying)
Do Chinese and ROW models have the same hardware, or are there differences ?
On Russian forums, people try to flash ROW to open up the 3G 900Mhz band, but so far, I couldn't find conclusive information that this actually works.
Taking it even further, is there any reason to go for a ROW(usually more expensive) model instead of a Chinese model ?
And perhaps the most important question of all : can you actually flash a ROW ROM on a Chinese model ?
Most answers I find elsewhere say it should work. But my phone gets stuck and won't even start when I do so. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, perhaps because it's just not possible.
Update : In recent other posts, users successfully flashed a ROW on a Chinese model, so I'm assuming that is possible.
I invite you all to provide some answers or feedback, because when I was looking into buying this phone, that was my most important question

I have ROW Phone bough and i commandet P780 Chinese version witch is more cheap then my row bought in my country. Half a price. I will not pay shipment because someone i know will bring it from there. I barrely wait to compare and i will tell you all about it.
So some follow up on my testing:
Remember : I'm working on a P780 4Gb Chinese with production date 15/03/14
This means I have to use a different preloader file than the ones included in all roms (at this moment). I that is not done, the phone will not boot (see my other thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/help/p780-bricked-flashing-wrong-rom-doesnt-t2749683).
I succesfully installed following ROMS :
- P780_S135_130917_rooted_twrp_gapps : standard Chinese rom, works well, some chinese, but does the job
- VIBEUI_V1.5_1419_5_DEV_P780_rooted_twrp_gapps : KitKat rom, worked very nice but had a huge problem with battery drain. Location services would hang an eat up to 15%/hour. Tried many things, and in the end, I got it more or less stable, but no location services (Google Now, Maps, weather,...). Too many problems with battery performance, so uninstalled
- P780_ROW_S124_140403_rooted_twrp_gapps + SLXROM_v24a-Lenovo_P780 : this combo gave me the purest Android system so far. Good old Android menus and behavior, good battery life, good everything. However, I had a major problem : every reboot, I would get a problem with SIM1 or SIM2 that did not come up. No problem, I could flash a modem like V52 Modem_S920 and the problem would be gone when the phone started up again...only to return on a next reboot. I liked the rom a lot, but that was just not workable.
- P780_ROW_S124_140403_rooted_twrp_gapps : The ROW stock rom, and I must say, I'm liking it. Works well, good battery, and in all honesty I kind of like the Lenovo shell. Nice launcher, nice behavior. I installed XPosed and GravityBox to update some things I didn't like without problems. Oh and the biggest surprise of all : in my SIM1, I see that WCDMA-GSM-900, aka 3G 900Mhz, is enabled, but I'm in a 2100Mhz only area, so I don't know if this is just there but not actually working... Furthermore, I liked the Power and security app from the VIBE 1.5 ROM, so I opened the img file, and extracted the apks, and installed them on this ROM, and it actually works nice without issues.
So for now, the last rom (ROW), gives me a non-Chinese, nice rom that has the 900MHz band enabled (will try to test soon).

Thanks alot for sharing this information with us. Now: can you tell us what are the 2 app original names in system.img?
Found them in the priv-app folder, not app folder (somewhere in system.img, forgot where exactly ?): LenovoPower.apk and LenovoSafeCenter.apk
Lots of other interesting stuff in that folder I must say ?
The power app in vibe 1.5 shows me more accurate timings and has a useful interface to see processes that consume power, especially the keep awake, aka wakelocks, and I like the privacy settings on the security app.but this one seems to crash sometimes because of conflict with the security app of current rom,but still...

Please do backup via spflash tool, i found somewhere on xda, spflash tool can pull a backup file from your rom what you using now. So if something happens you wouldn't worry. You have exactly right rom that always running on your phone.
Do research, 1st of all try flash all file and if ended with bootloop, you can try flash again and avoid to flash BL, preloader, sometimes nvram file.
If you have the right backup file, mediatek is nearly unbrickable, even imei can be write permanently without open your mainboard.

Great tutorial on the, well mainly SPFT, thanks!
Problem I had with CWM (and apparently you have to have the right version for Chinese or ROW), is that although it did boot into recovery, I'd get random errors about /system or /data or whatever else could not mount. It would give errors when trying to take a backup, and it just didn't feel reliable.
TWRP on the other hand, works great, no issues (although it says that it needs to fix root permission whenever I exit it, but no problems).
After my experience with a wrong flash, I do believe the MT devices are almost unbrickable, as long as you have the right combination of files to flash onto it.
After trying like 7 ROMS, I decided to stick with the ROW stock on my Chinese model. Great battery, stable, the storage division is a bit small, I'm running out of internal storage although I have plenty left in built-in storage, but my apps don't want to install there, neither can I move them.
Most important indeed is : BACKUP first
Update on my current P780_ROW_S124_140403_rooted_twrp_gapps ROM :
Although it shows 900Mhz band active, the 3G connection was pretty unstable. It works well for 1 second, then goes to nothing, then back to working well.
So I decided to flash the V52 Modem_S920.
Downside : no 900Mhz (but is it still used in a lot of countries ?)
Upside : 3G connection a lot better and stable. Browsing the internet is fast.
Where I would see a download speed of 25Kb/s to 500b/s to 200b/s it now stays well above 10Kb/s, with speeds well above that most of the time(up to 250Kb/s)
Current test done in Jakarta (with local SIM). Will test again in other countries.

What happens if i flash a modem firmware.

if i flash a modem firmware with my current custom rom.
And then if i clean flash another rom after that should I need to flash modem firmware again or the modem firmware will stay with my device???
If that stay in my device then what i have to do to remove it in future if i need to.
Also tell about kernel???
What is black screen kernel???
If i flash it what kind of changes come in my device???
Heyyo, modem firmware is separate from your ROM so there is no need to worry about reflashing.
The kernel is essentially the interface between the hardware and Android. Some are built for performance, battery saving or a balance between them.
Blackscreen Kernel is currently the most optimized kernel with a little more emphasis on performance than battery saving. It is built for Nougat ROMs and there's a bunch of ROMs that actually include it already such as BlackX, Slimroms, 1nfrag's AICP builds, Andr68rus's Dirty Unicorn builds and his Paranoid Android builds. Custom ROMs require a compatible ramdisk for Blackscreen kernel to work so it isn't guaranteed that ROMs without it included will be compatible.

All you need to do is reflash whichever version of modem firmware reflects the EUI ROM version your phone came with.
For example, my x829 came with NA 16s so I'd flash NA 16s modem firmware.
I haven't seen any need to revert to a worse modem firmware though as newer ones have improved my signal reliability plus fingerprint reader performance when the device is asleep.

Hi.
My device came with "Indian 16S", but the fingerprint function was not very responsive. Updated to Indian 19S and the fingerprint become very responsive, but only for 5 days, so it became poor responsive. Tried calibrate, add new fingerprint, but after and after these processes, it became like "dead" (no response at all -- even a vibration; nothing). "Fabric Restore" the ROM did not change the situation, and update to Chinese 23S and Chinese 26S did not turn the fingerprint sensor back to life. So I tried the "QFIL process", but even with the DEV ROM, nothing happens to capture the fingerprint. So i installed TWRP to change ROM (the DEV ROM does not update with any update.zip stock ROMs - "corrupted file" error) to Indian 16S again, and updated - by "update.zip" file (now it works) -- to 19S again. The device still not capture any fingerprint, but it's not completely dead, but a sort of crazy, because if the "tap to shoot" function is enable, the camera app shoot -- "automagically" -- photos like a crazy gunner...
What can I do? Is anything that I can can do to get the fingerprint sensor "normal" again? My device is with the 19S Indiam ROM again and the modem is ".2.0c1.9-00033-M8996FAAAANAZM-1" -- (is the 00"033" version?)
Can i change for another better modem version? Maybe the fingerprint sensor became less "sensible" and capture fingerprints again -- and not shoot photos "automatically"...
Best regards.

You can always try a different version sure! Modem firmware developer 466D might be the newest one

Otherwise it seems thus far modem firmware 23s, 26s and 28s are all the same for the latest stable

I had no success. Installed "466D_V.00050" modem zip file on TWRP, restarted, confirmed the new modem version on "About the Device / Base Band", but the fingerprint sensor on fingerprint register application still unsresponsive. I also installed "CN_26S_V.00033", same result. So, I installed again the "466D_V.00050" only to test if a new Stock ROM subscribes that. I updated (update.zip process) the 19S Indian ROM with the CN 26S ROM, and yes, the modem version turned to the CN 26S version (MPSS.TH.2.0.c1.9-00033-M8996FAAAANAZM-1) -- without any modification on the fingerprint malfunctioning.
If I had any updates about the fingerprint problem, I'll update it with a new reply on this topic.
Thanks.
Best regards.
Ah darn! Hmm I'm not too sure then sorry friend... I remember seeing a topic before where a dude had the same issue and ended up replacing the fingerprint reader hardware and got it working so sadly you might have to do that or even maybe opening it up and reseating it?
I'd check for that thread or research the price of the part plus a suction cup to take the screen off and replacement adhesive tape there's also some videos on YouTube for opening up the Le Max 2 with a heat gun or hair dryer that's what I had to do to replace my screen before but I've never done any other hardware swaps yet
I am still using modern firmware of INDIAN 19s.
I am unable to make carrier Video call everything else works fine.
Is flashing CN 26s modern firmware is gonna help??? ( Because my device is Indian x821)
I am checked carrier video calling with LINEAGE OS, MOKKIE, AOSP EXTENDED not worked with any one of these and currently i am using Pixel Experience Rom and carrier video call still not working .
Please Help.
Thanks.
Which modem firmware is the latest, 466D or 30s?
Pls send the link also, thanx.

[SOLVED] Is it safe to flash a KII-L22 rom on KII-L05 (Huawei GR5 Rogers Canada)?

Since I'm kind of disliking EMUI but love FlymeOS, I'm planning to flash the latter on my phone. I'm downloading the latest version from the official site, flymeos(dot)com.
However, it is listed under Honor 5X, and described as compatible with KIW-L24 / L22 / L21, KII-L23 / L22 / L2 (no mention of KII-L05).
I did some research and KII-L22 / 23 seem practically identical to the L05, in fact certain sites do not even bother to make a distinction between them when describing the specs.
So, can I safely flash this version of Flyme on my device?
Thanks in advance.

If you are on Volte firmware your have to downgrade to non volte firmware before going to custom rom..
I think it for all honor 5x..
Give it a try but do not forget to make full backup before flashing rom.

So I gave it a try and got error 7. Maybe it really isn't compatible after all?
Btw here is something else I noticed on their forum page: "The rom is based on android6.0 and it is necessary to flash the based rom", and they provide a link to this based rom, it's for an Indian version of the Honor 5X KIW-L22. I'm quite wary of flashing it though (again, due to the difference in device version). Do you think that it would be absolutely necessary?
In the meantime, I successfully flashed LineageOS. Actually really liking it so far, might as well just keep that if I can get everything to work the way I want.

It's the very first time I encounter error 7 so I don't know, but it is what it is.
Either way, I set up Lineage to my liking and everything seems to work, so at this point the only purpose of flashing Flyme would be aesthetics, though I doubt it's worth the risk and the time. So I'll mark the thread as solved.

Hi there,
First of all, when you say "this rom", which one are you referring to, Flyme, Lineage? They are NOT stock roms for Huawei/Honor devices. The stock for Huawei is EMUI.
I don't know what model number the Philippinean version of the Honor 5X has, but im pretty sure Lineage for kiwi (Honor 5X codename) is universal across device versions. As for Flyme, it installed fine (eventually) on my Canadian version of the phone without being inteded for it, but it was incredibly buggy and unstable, absolutely unusable for daily tasks.
If you feel you must flash a custom rom, go with Resurrection Remix. Don't touch Lineage with a 10 foot pole (I know I wrote above that I was loving it, but shortly after that I discovered a serious bug in it, basically the thing did something to my SD card making it act as if it was ejected after each reboot, I had to reformat it to get it to work properly again). RR has an interface nearly identical to Lineage, but vastly more options and the SD bug isn't there.
However, from personal experience with two different devices, my advice is to avoid custom roms altogether and always stick with the stock. Even the best custom roms like RR are still less optimized for any given device and therefore will function worse than even the crappiest stock rom, such as Honor 5X's EMUI. Since I wrote my original post I tested over 10 different roms, settling eventually for RR but then was not able to stand using even that for longer than a month. The problems were mostly minor annoyances, but when they all added up it drove me crazy.
You say that your phone doesn't have cellular signal, what happened that made it lose it? Depending on what the problem is, it may not even be correctable by flashing a different rom.

The majority of roms don't cover all the mobile frequencies. I use the KII-L22 in Australia and have the same problem.
I'm still to find a rom that has the mobile frequency B8 included.

Really? For me if there was one problem that I never got with any of the roms, it was roms not supporting my frequencies. Lineage, RR, and whatever other ones I've tried. The only exception was this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ho...m-honor-5x-flyme-os-lollipop-flyme-5-t3429879
No cellular signal at all was working on it for me though not even on 3G or 2G, so I assume there's a bug of some kind in it.
Currently I'm on this rom: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/development/stable-flyme-6-7-5-19r-honor-5x-t3615084
It's quite good for being a custom rom, but it takes A LOT of fiddling to get everything to work properly. It says the rom is for KIW-AL10, but it works just fine on my KII-L05, even though those variants do not normally share the same bands.

The LTE bands in the KII-L05 are B 2, 4, 5, 7. In the KIW-AL10 they are B 1, 3, 38, 39, 40, 41. As you can see, none of them overlap. Yet all the bands in my KII-L05 work perfectly fine on a rom intended for the KIW-AL10, so your reception issues are not caused by the roms.

So then why don't you just stick with the stock rom? Honestly, finding a good custom rom where everything would just work is next to impossible. In my experience, at least. Or you can give the rom I'm currently using a try (I linked it in a post above), it may do the trick, you never know (but don't blame me if it breaks your phone ).

it went fine, but after that my phone is mad laggy and I'm keep getting IMS service isn't working. is there any way I can add those CSC for USA base networks manually so it can work with Verizon and others USA base network?

ATT_pie_detonator_bigTINY_G95X_N950.zip for AT&T

Sorry, I have done quite a few searches, but haven't found any clear instructions on how to install these files. I have a N950F, but use it on ATT, and would like to get wifi calling working. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm new to this. I also am unclear on how to install.
G950F, TWRP 3.4.0 and Magisk 20.4 running. Using Tmobile.
Is this something I have to flash via TWRP or via Odin? And how do I tell which Tmobile file to flash?
I went ahead and just tried to install it the best I knew how.
Phone: SM-G950F Firmware: G950FXXSBDTJ1 Security Patch: October 1, 2020
Carrier T-mobile USA.
I used TWRP 3.4.0 to flash “TMB_pie_detonator_bigTINY_G95X_N950.zip”.
In "Settings>Software Information>Service provider SW ver."
initial CSC was XEU/XEU/OPS.
post detonator it is TMB/TMB/OPS.
I note VoLTE and Wifi Calling options are now present in the drop down menu.
I note HD+ icon during calls now.
I note the 'signal strength' icon on the top now says 4G LTE instead of just 4G.
I'm experiencing poor signal strength and was hoping flashing detonator and getting CSC 'right' for TMO network would help. It has not. Still low download (~5Mbps) and very poor upload (~0.1-0.05Mbps).
My home/neighborhood has lackluster 4g coverage, one of few spots. The TMO-Sprint merger is partly to blame - they're transitioning sprint towers to TMO/making infrastructure changes due to merger. I'm informed things should improve in coming months.
I have yet to test whether everything works 'right'. So far it looks okay, but i'm setting up the G950F as opposed to using it, and instead to give up trying to make the G950F work as I need it to on Tmobile and go for a Pixel 4a 5G on Google Fi and hope that the difference in phone, and the 5g, and ability to switch between networks will meet my needs.
As another poster noted, the tmobile startup splash screen is annoying. I imagine one could hunt for which file to remove from the detonator and repackage it.
That said, thanks to the developers for this tool. It allowed me to answer whether or not optimizing the G950F for the Tmobile USA network would improve signal strength. As such I no longer have to wonder if there was a way to make the G950F work for me and perhaps in the future, when coverage improves, I might find the G950F works quite well and I can give it to a family member.
Does anyone happen to have the files and can reupload? This may be one of the last ways of obtaining t-mobile functionality for the international S8.
I am specifically looking for " TMB_pie_detonator_bigTINY_G95X_N950.zip "
The mega download link must have recently died... (or it just doesn't work for me?)
@LastQuestion any chance you still have it since you posted fairly recently and seemed to have success?
I need these files too
@Puremin0rez were you able to get them?

[APP] FM Radio US996 VS995 [Oreo] [Stock]

STOCK FM RADIO FLASHABLE ZIP
This is a twrp flashable zip which enables FM Radio on V20 variants that came without it. Oreo stock only.
Choose your variant from the download link, currently US996_usa, US996_bpt and VS995. Flash in TWRP and your done.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=299040
Note: If you intend to flash this on a variant I'm unaware of first backup the file /system/etc/permissions/privapp-permissions-lge-elsa.xml , as my zip replaces the original file which may have some permissions needed for other carrier apps to function. In fact that is the only reason why there are different versions of the zip.
Thanks to those who helped test the app.
=======================================
ORIGINAL POST
Hi
I have successfully ported stock Oreo LG FM Radio from a H910 rom to my device.
My device is a VS995 that has been cross-flashed with US996 (USA) KDZ that was rooted using the original dirty santa method.
As this may be of use to those without FM Radio, and because I'm curious myself, I would like to know if my flashable zip will work on V20 device variants that have FM disabled. That would be VS995, F800, US996 and possibly others.
I will provide a download link to my TWRP flashable zip to those who PM me stating their V20 variant e.g. VS995 and who understand to do a full TWRP backup before flashing. There is no uninstaller.
The zip adds files to /system only, nothing in boot partitions, so if it doesn't work or anything goes wrong just restore your backup. This is more than just an apk btw, it includes all the necessary library/framework files etc.
I'm not hugely optimistic it will work on anything other than US996 because that rom is carrier free and FM radio although not installed may not have been fully disabled on it. But it might work on other variants, I just don't know at this stage. Hoping someone can help me to find out!
Note: I am a novice developer thus will be ultra cautious. If anything goes wrong a backup is vital.
This if for TESTING only. Please do and retain the backup even if you decide to keep it should it be functioning properly! Further builds may require that you revert as as yet I haven't written an uninstaller.
I might give this one a go. I recently acquired a US996 USA from another member who moved on to another device. There are very few apps installed so far, and it's on Alpha Omega Oreo. As the ROM is stock-based, that should be close enough to try, right?
UPDATE: I found a bug. Ordinarily FM does not work with Hi-Fi ON by design. It is toggled off automatically when FM app is opened. This is not happening and causes a crash if hifi is set to on. It does work fine when Hi-Fi is user selected to be OFF. I'm looking into it and I'll hold off on releasing it to those who have requested it for the time being.

It depends on how much AO has been modified. As long as you have backup no harm in testing it.
Edit: From what I recall AO Oreo Rom as very few enhancements unlike the nougat version of it. I'd recommend going back to stock and debloat etc. That is what I have done.
Ok so sorted out that bug (got lucky!).
Instructions
Backup to internal storage using a root browser the file /system/etc/permissions/privapp-permissions-lge-elsa.xml (I might need this to debug).
Do a full system backup
Flash the zip and reboot
Test toggling hifi mode on/off.
Test swapping from music apps to fm and back.
Test your other non music apps to see if they are working normally both with fm on and off.
Report back here your results!
Please do not distribute the dl link or the zip.
Thanks for testing!

ok i flashed on my v20 now.
Fm radio works in the fm app. Everytime I turn on it will automatically turn off hi-fi mode.
When i use lg music and another music app, hi-fi wil turn on automatically. Same when I switch back to fm radio and turn on immediatly, hifi will turn off automatically.
Everything works as it should switching back and forth. Thanks for bringing working fm radio to the us996 :good:
So far, so good also on my end, running the factory-unlocked US996 USA, Alpha Omega Oreo, and mk2000 2.2 Oreo kernel.
Hi-Fi mode turns off/on as expected when starting/stopping the FM radio, just like it does on my H918, also on Alpha Omega Oreo (my LS997 on Nougat somehow stays on Hi-Fi mode at all times). The "pass sound to speaker" button on the top right also works correctly for the radio.
If this also works for users of the other variants without FM radio, then we'll have ourselves a permanent fix. Nice job, OP :good:
That's great guys.
US996 passed initial testing phase.
Hold on to the backups in case anything happens over the next few days. But it's looking good.

If this also works for users of the other variants without FM radio, then we'll have ourselves a permanent fix. Nice job, OP :good:

Yes that would great. Waiting for someone on VS995 and F800 to test. I expect issues but I might be able to fix them.
It's 2am here, but I saw your Reddit post. I'm on vs995, lineageos 16. I can test if you like.

Test toggling hifi mode on/off.
Test swapping from music apps to fm and back.
Test your other non music apps to see if they are working normally both with fm on and off.
Report back here your results!

US996 unlocked variant with stock Oreo.
Tested all the above.
Everything works, if something comes up I will post it here.

STOCK Oreo only. LG system apps won't work on lineageos.
The FM radio app is not a app designed by me, it's just the stock LG app.
Gotcha. my bad. This is a spare device, so I can clean flash it with no hard feelings. Would this work for your test? Or do you have another link you can direct me to?
I *think* there are problems going back to stock from Lineage using a zip. I read anyway. The sure way of doing it is flashing oreo kdz, which isn't quite as straightforward. Up to you which you want to try first.
On a VS995 (i.e., FM neutered model courtesy of Verizon) with final Alpha Omega ROM (based on stock Verizon 20c) and using mk2000 kernel.
All is working really well. Hifi mode turns off as soon as the radio is on, and it refuses to turn on when FM is already on. Can play FM through the speakers or headphones. (headphones must be plugged in)
Starting other music apps (Spotify, IHeartRadio, LG Music) all kills the FM radio cleanly; starting the FM radio causes the other apps to pause playing and FM to start. Did not experience any crashes or strange behavior. Notifications play properly over FM sound.
Doesn't seem to impact any other apps at all, I was just using the phone listening to FM radio for the first time in 2.5 years. Very excited to see this development, I was disappointed when it came out that the Verizon model had FM turned off. I don't expect to use it much but it's nice to have, and especially nice to have things that were obviously turned off for no reason other than Verizon's greed!
VS995 passed initial testing phase.
I'd say give it a week and final phase 2 passed.
Ok so it turned out I needed to do a little adjustment for the Verizon model, nothing major, but thankfully seems to be working well.
What I need now is anyone on F800x or any other model (if there are any left does anyone know?) to send me the xml file I asked you to back up in POST 5.
Also if there is anyone on NOUGAT I might be able to do it for that version as well. Let me know if anyone is interested and I might look into it.
Looking forward to testing to be completed and this to be released. Would welcome the use of the V20's FM radio. Thank you for your hard work.

Haven't heard of further variants not having FM radio enabled, and I wasn't even aware that the Korean ones didn't have it. You may want to ask over in the Korean variants discussion thread for more testers.

Okay, so I just thought it didn't for some reason. Perhaps I'm wrong about that. I've googled it again and I just get conflicting info on it. There are different versions of the US996 though aren't there? One's with carrier bloatware will have to be modified.
What I think I'll do is just release it for the US996usa and VS995 for now.

Yeah, all the phone specs sites are not reliable when it comes to devices with lots of regional variants regarding less obvious features such as all LTE bands and FM radio. This Reddit post seems to hint at the Korean models not having FM radio.
As for the other US996 versions, there are two from smaller, regional U.S. carriers that are sometimes referred to by devs as "US996 Dirty Santa": US996 UCL (U.S. Cellular) and US996 BPT (BrightPoint). I don't expect these models to have as much carrier bloat as the ones from the larger U.S. carriers (H910, H918, VS995, LS997). There are definitely some users of them out there on the V20 Subreddit based on what you see on the flairs next to their names.
Thank you for taking the time to make this work for my us996 bpt variant. Not having a radio was a disappointment when I first rooted the phone. Terrific work, all seems well!
