My One M9's wifi "randomly" as in completely unprompted, died just a couple weeks ago. It's on Bad Boyz ROM and worked fine up until Wi-fi stated it had an "error." I have tried restarting the phone many times, clearing cache, doing the typical routine of updating profile and prl that sprint drones recommend. I have not factory reset the phone or updated the ROM. Any idea how to figure out if this is fixable at the software level or if it's a hardware problem?

Yep. I couldn't find anything relevant enough in TWRP (v2.8.7.0) to help. What'd you have in mind?

Flashing to stock HTC ROM is not the same as Wipe. You wipe it in recovery

Yes, I think. I did recovery wipe and flashed VR1.5
Maybe something just went wrong with the install?
... try a full wipe and fresh flash, should fix it

1. If you mean that when you turn off WiFi you have no 3G for a minute or two - that is completely normal for android as it disables 3G whilst WiFi is enabled. It takes a little while to connect sometimes. If you mean the signal levels to your service provider - that's completely different and a very odd issue to say the least.
2. Slow with FC's usually means something in the wipe didn't work properly or some apps are conflicting. Try a fresh install (without backups if possible) and see if they carry on happening. Then try restoring the backups (after say a week or so) and see if it comes back.
Alot of this is trial and error. We have no idea how your phone is set up and which apps you have installed etc.
I will say that it is not usual to see either of these issues and a wipe and reflash has the best likelyhood of fixing the problems.
This started happening a few days ago, the wifi whenever attempted to be turned on, would just say error. I have done multiple factory resets and soft resets. The device has been rooted before, no roms installed. The only things I haven't tried is rom flashing because when ever I try to download CWRM it requires me to download something off the phone, and well, I don't have a data plan either. Does anyone have a solution?

I think you have a hardware problem being you wiped clean and reinstalled. time for a replacement maybe??
Replacement isn't an option :/. Something I've noticed is when I reset the wifi will work for a good 10 seconds then fail and constantly give me an error.

try doing to clean install and wipe your system, cache, dalvick, and factory reset...
basically a typical fresh install and see it that helps
i always do i factory reset.. wipe system.. then super wipe.. before i flash a new rom or even an update and i NEVER have problems...:good:
thanks guys im going to school i will see how it works out today i hope its better
I had a friend load meanrom 3.0 for me, so I never really understood how to do this, but I noticed with 3.0 there were times my battery was getting pretty hot. It wasn't a consistent thing, with 4.3 I haven't had it heat up (yet).
So after 3 days of reading, re-reading I just fumbled through updating the firmware, radio, etc and putting on 4.3 yesterday. I guess from my experience, I checked and doubled checked everything. Here are some tips that helped me.
do a md5 check on your downloads to make sure they are the right size.
update radio (baseband), prl, pri, etc. (also make sure you are grabbing the right version. The one I used did not contain hboot or recovery)
wipe the davlak, cache.
reading the meanrom thread, once you had the rom install you no longer need a factory reset.
hope that helps.
dh
Ive dirty flashed the last few versions through the updater app never had a problem

Hello guys.
After spending several hours of search and review, I was unlucky to find the information I need. It could be my poor search skill, so my apologies if this is a repeated question.
My S2 is from Bell.
Today my Galaxy S2 got an update to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (I9100MUGMA5). First, it gave me SIM NETWORK LOCK issue. I did a research here, and found that it means the phone is LOCKED again. So I had to unlock it. (Did rooting first and locked with GalaxSim Unlock) Since then, everything seems to be okay and working fine with an exception of one problem.
When it attempts to connect to wifi, it crashes and reboot itself and it repeats several time until it's finally connected. I tried a few different things but it's got nothing to do with data on/off. It seems solely to be wifi problem.
I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issue I have here.
Should I downgrade to ICS?

Could be a router conflict.

Yeah, I tried the wifi at work today, same issue.
I'm not sure if I deleted that account, but it usually didn't ask me to enter the password to login the wifi, it automatically connects when within the area. But now, it asks me to login everytime wifi is on.
Not sure if I answered your questions. Sorry, not an expert, but having a huge frustration. Thought this jelly bean would be awesome.... :crying:

Ok, wipe means factory reset I guess.
So at this point, what do need to do? Downgrade to ICS -> Wipe -> Jelly bean update again?

Spending more than half a day to figure out this issue, I don't even know what I'm doing here, so I reboot and wipe data/factory reset.
It went back to factory ICS 4.0.3. Good thing I did backup all data before I did that, so didn't really lose anything.
Now I'm thinking if I want to try Jelly bean again....
Your comment please. And Many thanks for your previous comments. I do appreciate it.

Yea, everything is back to normal (ICS 4.0.3) now. Wifi working okay.
Now, (since it's wiped and factory reset) I will probably update to JB again, see if it works properly this time.
The good thing is that, now I know that I can go back to the ICS in the worst case by wiping and factory reseting.

Lol, factory reset sets your current ROM's settings to default.
Remember when you flashed JB? You had to select language, google account and all that. Factory reset takes you to that instance.
FACTORY (ROM by Google) RESET (Settings back to default).
When I said reboot into recovery I meant Recovery mode, so you could get your JB ROM the way Google set it to work, no user configurations whatsoever, WiFi included

Problem resolved and here's what I did.
1. Downgrade to ICS using Odin.
2. Wipe and factory reset in recovery mode
3. Upgrade to JB using Kies.
There's tons of posts regarding downgrading to ICS. I just picked one and followed the instructions. It gave me an issue that the phone freezed at the booting logo (I guess it's called bricked??), so I just wiped and factory reset the phone that lead to the stock ICS.
After I flashed one of the Carbon Rom nightlies my WiFi stopped functioning. It is ONLY working if I'm next to the modem (within 5 to 10 feet). It works on my other devices. I've tried it out at a buddies house and have the same issue.
I've tried this on multiple ROMs since this flash and still have this issue. Any ideas?
Edit: even ROM installs are taking longer. should I try a full Odin back to stock? NAND going bad?

I assume you're referring to the modem install? I installed the latest again and no go. I may just restore it back to stock with ODIN and hope for the best.

Tried to restore to stock today and that did not fix the issue. I called Verizon, they informed me that a large update is coming out today/tomorrow (4.1.2) and that should fix it. I asked him how this could fix an apparent hardware problem but I guess we'll find out. I've since rerooted. I can't figure this out for the life of me! Unfortunately, as I mentioned to the VZW reps, I can't just use 4G as Verizon doesn't like us to .
