I have had a Oneplus Two for noticeably less than two years and the email below isn't at all good.
Sadly when Helen (Oneplus) clearly stated in June/July 2016 that we would get Nougat it's clear it's not happening according to the email I received below.
Support is obviously for less than two years unlike many other manufacturers. It doesn't instill confidence in Oneplus.

Hi Steven,
A pleasant day to you!
Thank you for reaching OnePlus Customer support.
This is Alex from OnePlus. we greatly , appreciate.
Your time and effort in reaching out to us. Your concern is of utmost importance and I will be helping you out with your ticket. As much as we would like to give the latest update on the OnePlus 2, we've discontinued updates for dated devices.
But we will continue to support the limited warranty for current users and provide updates and support the best way we can even for OnePlus 2 users.
Let me know if this helps.
Best Regards
Alex
It is a shame. it was to be expected, but it still sucks. This is the only reason why I am doubting if I should buy a Oneplus 5 next month. I am really curious to see what will happen with the support for the 3 and 3T.
Oneplus will forgive they had OP3/3T

Let's take all the community's forces to keep OnePlus 2 up to date.
And then to find out that they are going to be giving the 3T Android O....how nice of them...
With such strong community support, I still don't get the big deal with no official builds. Half the point of getting a oneplus is the community builds.
I have to assume that if you are on XDA, you know how to get a nougat update easy peasy.... Is it just that you can't be bothered to find a rom which is daily driver stable?

I have to disagree, unfortunately.
Being on XDA doesn't mean that everyone can root their device and flash a custom ROM on it. There are exceptions. I had a Nexus 6P for which I did not unlock the boot loader, because my work email will not work on an unlocked, modified device. I had to use it in Stock condition for 6 months, even when the community support is there.
Just because community support is there, it cannot be used as an excuse for the lack of official builds. Not even 10% of the total users of OnePlus2 would know what is meant by rooting. They have paid money and the company needs to provide them updates. Period. No exceptions.
This is pathetic stuff from OnePlus and I'm seriously reconsidering my decision to go for the OnePlus 5 when it comes out.
I was going to buy a Moto X style or play at that time but choose the OnePlus 2...
And now the Moto x play and style got offical nougat and the OnePlus 2 is still here on marshmallow .... ?

Well, the biggest custom rom problems are camera blobs. N camera quality is still worse than OOS quality, even with the HAL3 that we recently got, it still needs imrovements

It's not true... I filed a ticket regarding the rumour... Here's the reply I got:
Hitarth (OnePlus)

Hi Kalid,
Thank you for your email to OnePlus customer service. My Name is Hitarth and I shall be assisting you out with your query today.
I understand that you have concerns regarding further updates for OnePlus 2. Do not worry I will help you with the relevant information regarding your query.
While I understand your enthusiasm for the update to OnePlus 2. I don't want to be a spoilsport but currently, we have no update on the release dates for further updates as of now. But you will certainly receive updates.
One thing that I can assure you is that the moment we release an update your phone would show up a notification automatically about the update availability and we shall also be posting it on our social media forums for the customer awareness.
I hope the above information is helpful to you.
They just can't tell us the time frame, but they assured that the users WILL get the update at some point.
There may be a difference between receiving updates and getting Nougat...
OnePlus is killing the OP2 from the start. They did not let kernel loose until OP3 appeared. We could not have stable CM and custom roms. Even M was too late and now they do not want to update it N (even two years still have not passed).
Poor support for their flagship device

Respected sir,
We Indian Honor 10 View users have a question to you, "Are we going to get updates for our phones or not?"
And personally saying, it's the first time I'm using Honor device and I'm quite happy with its performance.
I've used a lot of devices and have been active on many of the forums contributing to their respective development programmes.
But here, I'm kinda pissed seeing the threads that are only for the BKL-L04!
AREN'T WE BKL-L09 USERS HAVING THE SAME SPECS AS THEM?
We need an answer to this since you're their representative.
It's a humble request sir, we too want to see stable ROMS on this Indian variant!
PS : this isn't personal frustration or some kind of offence posting this thing! I'm just curious, that's all it is.
Do not take this personal and as a request instead.
Thanks,

You can maybe reach out on Twitter if you haven't already.

So Android P rolled out, and I was wondering, we've been blessed with devs work and got every great update and tons of rom for this device. And was wondering is there by any chance getting Android P based roms in future. Also I was specially wondering about RR, because I like that a rom alot.
Well will we be getting android P, or I shouldn't get my hopes up?
Just wait patiently. The sources are available, just wait until a dev cooks a build for kenzo. Or when proper GSIs will be available.
Sure thing buddy, by any chance you also want VoLTE and 10 hours SOT?
Nobody maintains Kenzo for income, just because they feel like sparing time, for crying out loud it was just formally announced today, so if you want P go ahead and build it on your own.
Just stop this kind of threads, they are just spam.

Sorry, the devs need income and now the devs like @rocknegi have started p**n for ₹50/day or ₹200/month cause the users aren't donating enough money.
If they get enough income from p**n selling, they will develop Android P for you.

I know but just use some sense? We are not devs, we are normal users like you. How do we all users know if a dev can develop Android P. Plus, do you think a dev will announce 'Hey Niggas, I'll develop Android P rom for you all niggas asking for it, wait for few hours:. No?
The dev need to look into the source, need time to see what all bugs needs to be fixed, else users like you will come here and say it's buggy, that doesn't work, this doesn't work right?
Another sensible answer: Android P sources are just released. It's not like magic to develop rom directly from the source. Needs a lot of hack, back port blobs and things we don't even understand.
Summary: it's a redundant question as of now. Please wait, if there's a Android P rom, you will see it here. Till than, enjoy other roms.

As a user of redmi note 3 . i just hope dev make android p for this device.
As one of the lineage 15.1 maker for Redmi Note 3, yep, we will do bringup after 9.0 source code release, and should be easier than Oreo, as Pie impacted a lot of backport comparable, please don't ask lots of annoying OTA, follow XDA rule, P will be coming to Kenzo/Kate after sometimes, but for Treble is more harder as blobs are old, we need to wait hydrogen and suzu devices etc updates for new blobs, for more Treble working, and even CAF for msm8952 board not impacted treble, unlike msm8953 board, so treble now is experimental and don't expect stable treble in a short time.

And for my lineage 15.1 long time no updates because I teams with @Carlos Arriaga, and he is back in July so I and other team members need to do some updates, my 15.1 new build will release soon

Well, speaking of Android Pie development, I've found a Pixel Experience ROM that is based on Android Pie through a Telegram channel
Known broken features:
• Bluetooth
• VoLTE
• Stock camera app, but the camera works for stills and video (Open Camera)

(link: http://t.me/KenzoRoms_News) t.me/KenzoRoms_News

NOTA BENE: Try it at your own risk, as it is not developed by me, but if you want to download it and try it, here's the link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1KqyUEdUgtW5coyoTlHuuN0Y2Jt1aKnn-
Yep. I've been using the Pixel Experience 9.0 from @thestrechh as my daily driver for a couple days now.
It's usable if you can get by without VoLTE and Bluetooth.
Gcam works, but can't change the settings and it crashes a lot. Front and back camera stills and video all working.
The rom feels pretty buggy and a bit sluggish to me. CPU operations seem to take an unusually long time. Maybe all the cores are not being utilized optimally. (Don't know. I haven't actually tested.)
I'm sure this rom will continue to get better and better in the coming days. I'm anxious to dirty flash the coming updates.
Excellent work by @thestrechh.

I've not noticed sluggish performance here, but I have noticed bugs here and there, which is par for the course, considering the infantile state of Android Pie development.
Still though, for an early release, it works almost excellently

As for all the others who read this, here is a little more explanation:
He is the technical chief officer of zte and stands in direct contact with the dev team. He is also the reason we got the zip for disabling system write protection in the first place. Without him i wouldn't have gotten the update.zip (with disabled system write protection) and @raystef66 couldn't have made a flashable zip for us.

VoLTE should work on any of the big Oreo ROMs. WFC is hit or miss (even on stock ROM). I'm assuming Oreo is gonna be the last android version we can install and still have these things work (unless some dev out there finds a way to get past this roadblock in the future). Either way, I kinda doubt ZTE would provide any further updates for us beyond Oreo. I'm assuming that the response given in the OP meant that they would fix everything that's still broken and missing on 8.0; not begin development for Pie (especially since the Axon 10 is just around the corner, pulling resources into a 3-year-old phone just isn't a sound decision from a business standpoint).

It is if ZTE expect some form of customer loyalty on future purchase decisions. Would you buy the Axon 10/11/12 etc. based on your Axon 7 experience? Yes they had disruptions from trade sanctions etc. but that's not the consumers fault and imo ZTE should be doing everything they can to restore faith in their brand.
They're basically starting again.
They need an affordable flagship like the Axon 7 was. If they don't, it will be hard to gather enough sales to start a customer pool and try for return purchase later on.
Current customers are wary, sceptical and untrusting after that whole fiasco and rightly so.

They just need to copy and paste the Axon 7 with newer specs.
Maybe bumping it to 6" in order to have more internal space would do the trick.
I still can't understand how did they think that the Axon 9 Pro was a good idea. They litterally took all that was great about the A7 and...deleted it.
Now...a bit of an on topic question. Instead of releasing 8.0, could they not enter the Android One program with it...especially since they were aiming for stock experience?
Maybe it's been asked before, but what are the implications of entering the AO program, because IIRC, I may have read some time ago something about a partition not existing on the device and ZTE not gambling with a large release, but I can't remember specifically?

The vendor partition stuff is something else entirely. Some people believed that ZTE would bring Treble support to the Axon while that made very little sense (Treble is a requirement for phones that SHIP with Oreo and above, but it's optional for Oreo, and its main advantage is it makes it easier for OEMs to update major Android versions). It was developed by djkuz and NFound eventually anyways, but only because of the generic ROM benefits
I don't think you can simply slap Android One certification on the middle of a product's life, but even if they could, it would make absolutely zero sense for them... Why be commited to security updates and newer Android versions on a phone that has surely stopped giving any revenue since long ago? Plus I'm not even sure if people prefer stock Android to stuff like One UI where you have a bunch of options
Do not expect to much from ZTE for the Axon 7. Until now they did not release a stable OS and it will not change for the next update.

Marshmallow and Nougat were perfectly stable, if not the chinese versions. i'd say that counts.
The important thing is them fixing Daydream because it doesn't only entail adding daydream back, to run it properly you need to have thermals and the kernel properly tuned. Daydream should put the phone at ~1.3 GHz but I believe they'll have to mess around to make it work as intended anyways
plus all this is useful for LOS
Marshmallow and Nougat had a very bad design and UI because of mifavor. Oreo is nice but extremly unstable.

All I'm saying is, @GodOfPsychos contacted this ZTE guy, he said that an update was going to be released, and then XDA'S EDITOR IN CHIEF contacted that guy and got the same response (with which an article was made). They can bail at any time, but it's not like they are promising Pie anyways
I'm guessing you can't see the attached screenie in the OP? I can see it just fine from XDA Labs
We won't get official Android Pie for Axon 7.
The most I read into that is update to include cut out features like Daydream, probably a security update too. Just a finish of what Oreo 8.0 was supposed to be. I don't think we will even see official Oreo 8.1
If they had just kept with the whole "best sounding phone" idea I'd probably already have bought another ZTE. It was the thing that distinguished them in the crowded market of samey-same phones. At this point I'm clinging to my Axon 7 with my tight little hands, and any update to its stability will be appreciated. [Full disclosure, I'm running the GSI Liquid Remix unofficial build of Pie, but if they do update the official Oreo and get it rock solid, I could see downgrading just to be on an official ROM.]
OnePlus has numerous models (like my Nord N10) that are still waiting for Android 11. Other models have beta versions of Android 12, but OnePlus has wholly and completely botched their rollout of Android 11.
I'm sure that THOUSANDS of OnePlus users would gladly pay for a stable ROM.

But I dunno, isn't Pixel Experience way more Google-dependent than OxygenOS? I usually avoid Google stuff.
EDIT: Well yea, I just noticed that ROM was discontinued, my bad.

No doubt mate, I would definitely pay for a Lineage ROM...

Appreciate your feedback. It’s a chicken or the egg conundrum.
I’ve shared feedback directly with both Lineage and Pixel Exp that there is an opportunity here. Some twerp moderating the Lineage forum (not a developer) sent me a grumpy reply saying “read the forum rules you can’t ask for a ROM for your phone”. I explained to the dummy that I’m not talking about just my phone, rather it is a huge opportunity for nearly every model of OnePlus phones.
We need to help folks at Lineage or Pixel Exp understand that yes these custom ROM projects are things they work on for fun — but that they are also supported thru DONATIONS. So, consider developing ROMs for models where there are known customer dissatisfaction issues. Maybe even require a minimum donation of $15 or $25 if you have published a stable ROM that you are committed to for ongoing support.

I think many developers build and develop custom ROMs in order to practice or just to have fun, not for money. What I think you're proposing is turning what is a fun hobby for many of the developers into a sort of job, which I think is a little unreasonable. This is probably the point where most developers would stop having fun and cease development altogether. I think letting developers pick whatever devices they want to develop for would be for the best. The only thing we can do is wait or send a device their way in hopes that they pick up development. Also, there are already Pixel Experience and LineageOS ROMs for the N10(I'm using Pixel Experience right now and it's pretty stable). If you're feeling extra adventurous, there is a guide to flash GSIs from the GitHub Wiki here.

Thanks for sharing your point of view. Agreed 100% that these are volunteers who don’t do it for money. Just pointing out that there’s an opportunity for both because of how OnePlus has handled the rollout of Android 11. The OnePlus 9 is part of the Android 12 Beta, but the N10 and other models are still waiting for Android 11.
My goal is just to create awareness of an issue. Given that most custom ROM developers focus on a couple of phone models, they might not be aware of the issues that OnePlus has had. Someone can still be a custom ROM developer on the side for the fun of it, but at the same time pick devices where there is a need. It might increase donations — a way to subsidize the fun.
I held off on installing Pixel or Lineage on my N10 because both mention issues with adaptive brightness — didn’t know if that meant that brightness was randomly changing or if that means it just doesn’t adapt and stays at whatever you have it set on.

Thanks for the calm discussion. From your perspective, I can see how looking at all of these OnePlus devices and their lack of recent updates has created a huge void that could be easily filled with custom ROMs. The N10 is no exception; only 1 major android update and that's it, which is obviously a big bummer. I think some developers are aware, but might just be waiting for the "promised" updates to actually occur, slow as they are. I personally think the slow deveopment progress of the N10 relative to other OnePlus devices is most likely because this phone is on the more boring side, and most people have marked it off as budget garbage. Concerning Pixel and Lineage: auto brightness just doesn't work at all, and other than DT2W , both are pretty stable(as indicated by my last post).
I love you both
