Does Lineage OS support exFAT on redmi note 4 SD? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have a 64 gb memory card which miui formats to fat32 for use.
I cant put files greater than 4gb on my meomory card.
So, does the custom os like lineage os , cdroid or ressurection remix removes this limitation ? Anyway to remove the 4gb file limit?

Format the sd card as NTFS using a PC. All android devices support NTFS sd cards created by a windows pc.

NTFS format doesnt work. Tried and tested!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well that's basically SOL then. Only options would be to bite the bullet and use adoptable storage via adb commands to convert to the internal file system

[Q] Use external SDCard with files larger than 4Go ?

Hi
MicroSD uses FAT32 filesystem.
My issue is that I cant transfer movies larger than 4GB to my SDcard and I want to be able to do this. On the internal memory, no problem.
Can I format my external SD in ext2 , will it work with the stock ROM ?
Thanks,
Seb
Format it in exFAT. Won't work with EXT in addition to not being able to read it in Windows
Format it in windows to exfat them it works perfect for files larger than 4 gb
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
You can use exFAT (supported by SGS3) : it does not have the 4GB file limitation
Thanks !!
exFAT format works fine on my stock rooted S III. I've tired playing a 14Gb video sored on sd card without any problems.

Works just fine on a regular S3 without root
So does exFAT only work on stock roms? Are there any custom CM10 kernels that support it?

Micro SD file system

what is/are the micro sd file system(s) recognised by OPX?
i inserted a 64G micro sd formatted with exFAT, and it was not recognised by OPX.. (it was recognised by TWRP as "/external_sd")
should i try NTFS then? (but im afraid TWRP might not recognise it then..)
any hint? thx..

Ive allso had exfat and have problems with it, now i have ntfs and it works prefect.
In Oxygen 2.1.2 my experience was that the only filesystem working BOTH in Oxygen, Windows and TWRP was Fat32 formatted in TWRP. I really tried them all (exFat, fat32, NTFS, Ext4, f2fs)
However, after upgrade to Oxygen 2.1.3 I discovered that also exFat works everywhere so I reformatted my 128 GB card to exFat.
yes v2.1.3 added back support to exFAT..
What is correct file path for sdcard? Stock E1005 2.1.3-X using stock file Manager?
I have 64gb sdxc gskill class 10 there is no option to format card on phone. Upon boot "sdcard available click to access".
Shows up in Storage. Saving to sdcard is hot & miss. ie. Moving OpenCamera frm internal to sdcard, shows up Settings>Apps, ON SDCARD tab
But not in file Manager

Sorry to bump a really old thread but I noticed on 3.1.4 ExFat is not supported and the phone asks me to reformat and it goes into FAT32
Anyone else seeing this on 1+X?
Yes I found this rather annoying I ended up just formatting it in end. Lol. There is ways around it but eh.

Many people would recommend "exFAT" file system, also some would recommend "FAT32" but due to the limitation of the file size, i won't recommend it, "EXT4" is good, but may not be a good choice for SDcard if you wanted to view the files on the PC using a "SDcard reader" one day, your sdcard then would be limited to read only, so you have 2 options:
1-format it as "exFAT"
2-just put it in the phone, Reformat the SD card with your phone Settings --> Storage/Storage & USB The file system on the freshly formatted SD card is the type that will give you the best performance with your phone.... in other words....(let the phone choose)

As i told you, Individual files on a FAT32 drive can’t be over 4 GB in size, but in exFAT it has no limitations, if it worked good for you in phone or pc then it's fine, if you faced any problems reformat it to FAT32.

SD Card SanDisk 64GB not working on Custom ROMS

As the title says it all maybe there's some advice or tips from you guys to get it recognized on my Poco F1.
I'm on OmniRom and after booting up the device with SD card it freezes all and got automatic reboot.
On LOS 16 I got bootloop.. Don't even booting up at all.
I need it because I need to put some files there to flash xiaomi.eu and that ofcourse will delete internal storage.
I'm not experienced with the MTP flashing or similar options but everybody is welcomed to help me with step by step instructions.
Thanks allot in advance Poco Fans:silly:
I don't think the roms support exfat microsd cards yet. There's a workaround though: format your sd card to FAT32 using a program on your pc (you will need another program because windows by default can't format large sdcards to fat32). The thing is that FAT32 doesn't support 4gb+ files so that could be an issue but at least it's better than no sdcard at all right.
Another option is to move the files manually temporarily to your pc using MTP so you can copy them back when you've flashed xiaomi.eu

Thanks for your Info. I remember that TWRP could format to FAT32 as well?
Or maybe I could buy another SD card with FAT 32 Format already?
adding exFAT support in rom is not a big thing... our kernel supporting exfat so its just the rom which needs some patches or commits!!

Can I use 512GB SD card in poco F1

Can I use a 512GB SD card in poco F1 ...
official support up to 256GB.
or if I flash Custom Rom can I use it????
You should be able to as in most cases the limit is not locked by the software. If you can use a 64Gb sd card then you should be able to use a card up to 2Tb ( this being the limit, theoretically imposed, on the SDXC type cards).
Again, haven't tried but you should be able to.
The cards that are supported are only listed for what is available at the time of the phones release. As 1Tb cards are only just now starting to pop up most phones still only say 512Gb sd card supported as they haven't been tested by the manufacturer before release. False advertising to say it will support the biggest and best if it hasn't been tested and leaves thee manufacturers open to lawsuits if this information proves false...
Yes, I use SAMSUNG EVO Plus 512GB MicroSDXC with official MIUI

all Android Phones! , the rule is same! Android doesn't support ext4 or ntfs, just exFAT
internal storage however is maintained by Kernel itself! so its possible to store file having size above 4gb

It's not really true. I have >4GB files on my SDcard right now. (Xiaomi.eu, but for a long time used normal Global MIUI (Stable and Beta)).
Android doesn't support ntfs "from the box", it's true, but no problem with ext4, exfat or files > 4GB.
exFAT supports files greater than 4gb... That's why I use this instead of FAT32, be aware, dsome older Chinese branded phones CAN'T use exFAT. These are stuck using 4gb files or less on sd card but that was a phone I purchased a few years ago, most seem able to handle exFAT now, if they support micro SD cards that is...
