Cover wake up function - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

How does "auto on" work when I open my cover?
I have some cover here but when I open it S3 doesn't wake up.
Not everyone cover does function but what does it depend on?

There has to be a magnet embedded in the cover in a certain spot.

I have the original tab s3 keyboard cover and it doesn't wake the tablet as well.

I've tried 3 aftermarket covers and they all wake the tablet when I open it. Unfortunately I did not get the keyboard cover. (Too expensive here in the US)

There is also a small magnet in the front cover but how shoul it work.? Maybe some bug in samsung software?
I think the ambient light sensor manages the auto on function.

I'm pretty sure it's the magnet. It works in the total darkness for me, and manually covering/uncovering the ambient light sensor does not wake the tablet.

There is a sensor in the top left corner of the tablet (when in portrait mode). You can try it using a small magnet.

Now I found in each corner magnets.
But using a small magnet even with two pieces on both sides simultaneously tablet still wont wake up...
But something I must do wrong: my old Galaxy Tab S works without problems but for testing I can not bring it with my magnets for wake up...

Try a different cover/case. It must be a "smart" cover made specificaly for the Tab S3. If it is not a "smart" cover, the automatic screen on/off function will not work. Also, Samsung's keyboard cover/case does not include the neccessary magnet so you have to use the power button; their regular (non-keyboard) cover has the magnet and works perfectly

the samsung OEM official keyboard cover does have sort of "auto sleep/wake" function.
HOWEVER, IT WORKS AS FOLLOWS: tablet turns on when connected to pogo pins on keyboard......tablet turns off when disconnected from pogo pins.....
confirmed on my model this evening.
check the following:
go to settings > system > accessories.......then turn "on" automatic unlock.

The seller of this case claims it doesn't have wakelock magnets but it does... dont bother

[Q] smart cover/smart sleep?

Hi,
Cant remember where I read that the sony case itself as well as several non-sony ones would support smart cover (when you flip open, the screen comes on without you touching it) and smart sleep (goes to sleep when you close the cover). Sort of like a ipad function. I have the sony original case for tablet z and I cant the 2 features to work.
any ideas? thanks

i've this one and works perfect for me with the smart sleep function. It's great quality.
I know the Sony official case woleeps/wakes fine out of the box with no changes needed to settings. I returned it to frys though because it wasn't worth $90 with tax in my opinion.

Yeah I think it is supposed to have those features, sounds like a faulty case to me. I was thinking about getting this case, but decided to save some money and just got a sleeve that also turns into a stand. Would be more practical for me anyway, I don't like cases.

I just tested the smart functionality using my Sony case (the red one). It works as far as I can tell: It wakes the screen when you open the cover and puts it to sleep when the cover is shut.
It's an elegant cover. But I agree that it's too expensive for what it is. I use it on my commute to work. I've read complaints that it's too bulky. It does not seem so to me, and it's pretty easy to take the XTZ out of the case when I get to my office.
Disable function
Is there a way to disable this function? Thanks
Out of curiosity, how does it work at all? Is it simply working through the light sensor, i.e. when its covered and pitchdark it assumes cover closed and goes to sleep, once ambient light reaches it it wakes up?
Or is it more elaborate than that?

There is a reed switch about an inch left of the front camera. A magnet will activate the switch and cause the tablet to enter Sleep Mode. Removing the magnet will cause the tablet to wake. Many tablet cases have a magnet in their front cover.
@hyann I'm using the Poetic case for my XTZ and the smart wake/lock function works great. It isn't bulky or heavy either and the best part is that you can get it for under $20 USD. It's a well designed case and protects the device really well. Basically the tablet is placed into the matte finished plastic case that's connected to the leather binding.

Has to be a cover with a magnet in it.
Get the moko case from amazon, i love it and it has the screen off functionality with the magnets, plus its only $20

I bought this one (haven't received it yet though)
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00CHQWMC4/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I picked it because the bottom easily slides off, so I can still put it in the charging dock.
It also has the magnet for turning the screen on/off

FlipWallet with Auto-Wake and Auto-Sleep?

Looking for a FlipWallet with one card slot (to put my transport card)
that has Auto-Wake/Auto-Sleep
and a cutout so that the LED indicator can shine through
was thinking of the Samsung Official FlipWallet Case...
but it has no cutout for the LED
and it does not seem to offer good protection (I'm currently using a Rearth case)
any suggestions?
I got a Seidio Ledger - the one without the s-view window but instead a pocket where I keep two cards as well as cutouts for the speaker and LED light. There are no auto sleep/wake functions in the case itself but I use a really handy app called Smart Screen, which uses the proximity sensor to turn the screen off/on after the cover is opened/closed after a configurable amount of time (2 seconds works well, b/c it will also toggle the screen if you cover / wave over the proximity sensor with your hand).
I like and would recommend that case, but take that app for a spin (free... I think with ads, but it seems that the Xposed module xad always blocks them for me). If you like the app it opens your options quite a bit (the first case I got was a Cruzerlite wallet case, which is also nice and more protective than the Seido, but it's significantly thicker and I prefer Seidio's style so I almost always use that one).
Hope that helps with your case search!

[Q] How to disable auto wake up when opening case?

I always put my x1 in a bag with case which cover has no magnetic snapon; so the cover always open and close by itself inside my bag. That will automatically wake up my x1 several times in my bag.
How can I disable the auto wakeup?
Simply turn off "display cover" mode.
Settings / display /
Thanks.
Mine don't have the Display Cover mode, but have only Window Cover mode which I believe it is what you mean.
I already made it off. It is just for not displaying the mini display through a front cover having a small window. My X1 display still auto on and off when opening and closing the cover.

Sorry, you are right.
Can't find the place where to deactivate the proximity sensor.

Hi, here how i did it, you will find a magnetic on the right of earpiece on the cover, it trigger the screen, just cut it out
Thanks. That's a bit extreme for me.
Will put it in a rather tight pouch before putting it in my bag.

Can you get (or make\mod) a Note 3 S view flip case that includeds QI\NFC?

I know you can get both cases separately (official S view) OR QI/NFC back cover, but I am unable to find a combined on ebay. And my attempts to install the s-view chip onto the qi\nfc coil\chip have failed thus far.
Now my NOte 3 wont even return to working pain S-View. I have ruined the magnetic flip sensor thingy mcjob, or the pins arent connecting.
What is the best way to test to see if the chips are connected\detected on an s-view case? installed a few "hardware info" apps and all they seem to show is that magnetic sensor certainly detects magnetic changes when flipping an s-view case, yet samsung s-view UI dioes not get triggered.

I realize this was posted a while ago, but in the spirit of information, I experimented and with a magnet you can find the small magnet in the sview cover, and you can also check if it triggers the sview action by passing the small magnet in the vicinity of the lower left hand side of the screen. The nfc is built into the battery, and some sview covers have wireless charging function, which will be apparent if you find two gold colored contacts inside the back which sit to the side of where the battery sits. for as small as the magnet in the cover is, if it's misaligned it may not trigger the action. also neodymium permanently lose there magnetism if exposed to too high heat, and although relatively low, I would think it would melt the cover before doing so. If one is doing some sloppy madding though, it could happen. I would check the software side of the problem, make sure the funtion is enabled. If running custom rom, check that the function is available.
Something I am still trying to figure out myself is how the wireless charging works, I have an s view cover with the wireless charging circuit and I have a cheap qi charger. I also have a wireless charging reciever I pull out of another battery cover I thing from a note 3 but I don't remember. Its contacts line up correctly with mine, but it also has two more contacts that line up with the other ones which I assume are for nfc, because the look to be attached to a separate coil antenna. With the charger powered, nothing happens when I put the note on it. If I put the unit from the other cover it it, it start the charging cycle. if I put that unit onto my note and hold it in place with the stock plain battery cover it still works, and the phone indicates that its charging. Put the svirw cover back on, nothing.maybe I'll start another thread on that questiion.
